Great service, nice and clean place. Nelson is the best. He knows exactly what I want.

I have been with Nelson since Étude and introduced him to all my friends and family for haircut, to be honest, no one came back disappointed

Pretty much everyone I know gets a haircut from Nelson, today is the first time I went to him. I got a haircut and a perm. Him and his assistant both stayed after hours so they could finish up my perm. I told Nelson what I wanted, he gave me his opinions, and I am really happy with the results! I never really cut my hair in the states I always waited until I go back to Asia, now I think I finally found the place to get my hair done in LA! Would definitely recommend coming here.

Got a haircut, wavy perms on the end and straight perm on the top for my fizziness. Friendly staff, bit pricey, 250 total, but overall hair came out natural and have received lots of compliments.

Ray is the best! I’m so glad he’s been cutting my hair over the years. I completely trust him. He is very careful and uses his time so efficiently. You will TRULY be in great hands. He is such a good person, too! Ray is really nice and so great with all kinds of hair, styles, cuts and colors! I hiiiiiighly recommend him! Thank you, Ray(as always)!!! A review of the place: The place itself is very pretty and everyone says hi and welcomes you even if they’re very busy. I’ve been here three times so far and it’s been a great experience everytime. A con would be that their robes are on the small side and their chairs are a little too tight for us chubby people :). Update 2÷6÷2016: Some chairs are different from the old ones(although it seems that some of the old ones are still there) and these are definitely more comfortable! :) Got my hair colored, bleached, and cut, and watching Ray is truly watching an artist at work! So great as always! I recommend bringing pictures of what you want! I think that always helps.

Went to Ray based on good reviews on Unilocal. The haircut itself was not bad, and Ray really took a lot of time to make sure he thought it was perfect. I would say if you have really nice«Asian» hair, aka stick straight and silky smooth, definitely come here, you’ll think it’s a five star haircut. My hair is wavy and a bit frizzy, and very, VERY thick, which Ray immediately pointed out. And also pointed out like, ten more times while he was cutting my hair(Thanks, dude. As if I don’t already know that). He asked me if I style my hair regularly, and I said no. Rather than give me suggestions on how to manage my hair, he just told me over and over that I should spend $ 200 to get it permanently straightened. He even said at the end, «See? It even took me twenty minutes to straighten, think how long it will take you.» So the haircut he gave me will only look good if I straighten it every day, which is what annoys me the most, because I CLEARLY told him I don’t style it regularly. I really wish he had taken all this into consideration, because the cut he gave me makes my hair extra frizzy and flippy and stick out in all directions. For $ 60, I definitely was not satisfied, and I won’t be going back.

Guilty for finally getting around to a review but here I come! I followed Nelson from Étude and have been here at La Vie only about 2 – 3 times. Each time, the place seems a bit different(I go once a year) and this time, they were doing major renovations – which means this intimate, trendy hair salon will only get better. Nelson always understands what look I’m going for and even though I walk in with a photo, we end up playing around with my hair until I get exactly what I want. I’ve never left feeling unsatisfied and it’s amazing how efficiently he and his helper can get me in and out of there in no time, looking fly. I also love how accommodating they are with reservations as I had to make a last-minute change but they did their best to make it work. This is grounds for infinite loyalty to Nelson and his crew. La Vie was also open until 7 on a weekday-which works for full-time employees like me who get off at 5 and have to trek on over to Ktown. Free parking, good bumping music while you wait, and reasonably prices at $ 40 for women’s cuts. Why wouldn’t you come check it out? Hit up Nelson for a new do!

Eugene and Ray are both great! They are well versed in the art of cutting stubborn Asian male hair. Been getting my hair cut from them for a while now. Great service! Free Parking! Massage Chairs!

I’ve been going to Ray Ha as my hair dresser/stylist for 4 years now. He is AMAZING! I followed him from the salon he was at in La Crescenta and now to La Vie En Rose, where he seems to have settled in and is very happy. Ray understands my crazy asian hair — it is super thick and crazy, but he always tames it and makes it look awesome. Last week I went in for a quick trim and told him about an interview I had, and he even styled it for me! It looked so amazing! I highly recommend Ray — he’ll take great care of you!

Vivian is my girl! She’s been trimming my bangs for a couple of years. When she gave me a full on hair cut, I was a little uncertain for the first week. Three months later, my super fine thin hair is still full of ooomph and pizzazz! Vivian has vision and style, and I trust her 200% to give me something in style and relevant. We have a minor language barrier, but that doesn’t stop her from giving me a good trim.

I’ve been going to Nelson for 4 times now for haircuts and perms. Most recently, I got a digital perm because I was tired of curling my hair every morning and it was damaging my hair a lot. Aside from the fact that Nelson and his assistant are very professional and friendly, they always thoroughly check for my hair condition and style, and recommend the best haircuts or styling ideas… which I love because I never know what hairstyle I want. I love my perm and it’s so easy to take care of. I can style my curls in various ways by using different hair products. For more curls, I add a bit of curling cream to wet hair and air dry. For looser waves, I just add hair oil to wet hair and air dry. Highly recommend!

Love Nelson! First time today and he totally gave me the cut I wanted, and definitely understood what I didn’t want. He’s a genius when it comes to layering and styling! I also told him I want a style that elongates my face and he gave me advice on what to do next time, cause my bangs are too short at the moment. Great experience, great service — and the best assistant! She’s awesome too :)

Got the haircut I wanted by Nelson. He knew exactly what I wanted and I was so happy with how my hair turned out. I’m looking to come back sometime this month to get my hair colored. Loved that they had massage chairs for the hair washing station. I’m glad that my friend recommended this salon. I was in and out of the salon in less than an hour and didn’t have to wait long. Also, the price is more than reasonable at $ 40 for a women’s haircut.

So I made an appointment for 4pm and they had me waiting for 30 minutes. I asked how much longer I’m going to have to wait and If my hair stylist is almost finished but lo and behold he has started to color a lady’s hair. Why the hell have me wait when you can tell me from the get-go that he is busy. & if I’m going to wait why not ask him how long it will take and let me know? I just left. Now anyone who works knows how precious weekends are. I don’t want to waste my time on a business with absolutely No class and has an UNPROFESSIONAL management. (Obviously this is a review on the front desk and whoever manages that receptionist because she is just doing what she is told but there are several people at the front desk who could have stepped in to help instead of looking in the mirror and hair spraying their hair — what a douche)

I’ve been getting my haircuts by Nelson since he started working at Étude and have never been disappointed. I get a different cut every time I see him so I bring plenty of photos of what I want and he always knows how to adjust it so it’s still uniquely my hairstyle. He’s always very friendly and provides styling tips to maintain my new look when I ask, but he’s also not afraid to tell you if a hairstyle might not work. Zion is also super friendly and helps me translate any questions or concerns. A few months ago, I called Étude and panicked when I found out he stopped working there. I began scouring the Internet and came across another Unilocaler’s photo of her new haircut and in the reflection of the mirror was Nelson. taking her picture in the salon chair. Creepy of me? Maybe, but it was worth it!

Nelson is my haircut stylist! I followed his recommendation every time and he did a very good job! I told him that I want a «entertainment professional look» and he did a very good job with very nice service! I will come back soon! Love it!

I got my haircut by Nelson yesterday for the second time and again he amazed me. Both the first and second time I got my hair done by him I showed him a picture of what I wanted, told him a bit more info of specifically what I wanted such as the specific length or if I wanted layers or not and then let him do his work. He’s very kind and tells you every step he’s making throughout your haircut so that you aren’t left without knowing why he’s doing. Most recently I decided to cut my hair short for the first time in years. I was very nervous but his kind staff calmed my nerves and reassured me of my decision. He’s very professional and has an exceptional eye on detail. His prices are not bad either and I genuinely gave him more of a tip due to his flawless work. I plan to continue to go to him in the future for all my hair needs. Thanks Nelson!

I got my hair done with Nelson at Étude a few times and had to follow him here when he moved. I don’t think he’s been at this location for too long but apparently I wasn’t the only one who followed him over because this place is crackin’ every time I come. He gives great haircuts and coloring, is super friendly, and extremely attentive to his clients. He’s a hard working genuinely nice dude. The assistant is friendly and good too. The prices are a surprisingly reasonable and honestly such a steal for the service you get here. I am told they use better coloring products here as well. The salon itself is nice and new. Smaller and more personal than étude but it’s a nice change for me since I’ve been going there for as long as I remember. They are always playing Korean music, which can be a little weird to some, but… it is what it is lol. It doesn’t bother me too much. All in all I can’t recommend Nelson highly enough and I would give this place a try if you’re looking for a new Korean hair stylist.
