La Guera Tamalera

I don’t take joy in bad reviews ever! Iv been loyal to the Tamalera 4yrs but as of last year meeting her ½ ways for my order it was a disaster. I paid 80+ she told me my order it seemed correct. In the Fwy my Co pilet notice she left out the desert Yikes. She says opps sorry I have no more haaa great but you charge me I let it go error. I get home open my tamale and she gave me an order that I don’t like !! Uggh jezzz I open up the rest and its all screwed up. I call and maybe she gave me someone else order –nope — she had everything messsed up, apologise and doesn’t fix the situation error Bad and Never refunded the batch I never got. So with that beeing said I just can’t do the Tamale disaster eehh

Lots of tamales in LA taste good, but these feel good. I don’t get that carb bloat after eating them, or that overly full feeling. Also, they taste fresh and clean. I have had these tamales delivered to business associates for lunch and they they loved them too. The business caters to offices which is GREAT.

These are organic, gluten, lard free tamales, people! With that out of the way, these were delightful. I was introduced to them from my co-​worker who posted their order form on our bulletin board (thank you to her).
At first, I thought wow, that’s a lot of masa but I realized it was like any other, but without the clumpy lard packed into it that sticks in your gut and makes you feel weighted down. All. day. long.
Yes, they might be on the pricier side compared to your abuelita’s or store parking lot version. However, I would be willing to buy these hands down, every time.
Our order came with sauces (mild, hot and sour cream). By the way, tasted like they were all hand made as well. Fresh. fresh. fresh. Plus, you can add as much spice as you’d like with the hot sauce.
I’m not the type of person to have tamales more than every 6 months or less, so I was pleasantly surprised at how a tamale could be yummy without the lard and still be packed with flavor. My next thing is to test how they hold up after being frozen.

I love these tamales! I love that I can have them delivered to me and that they are organic and vegan for me and meaty for my husband. Deborah is delightful but the tamales are beyond words wonderful!

freaking delicious tamales. my favorites are the Sasquash and the Spinach/​Shitake.
Getting a delivery of these tamales makes my whole week better. My husband and I order a dozen and the next 3 days eat like royalty. So easy to reheat, so healthy and soooo good! Plus they are delivered with a smile! Excellent customer service. Would give more stars if I could.

I saw the La Guera Tamalera food stand at the Los Feliz Village Street Fair last Sunday and decided to give one of their Pork Tamales a try, I was hungry enough for two but at $ 5.00 each I settled for one. It was alright but it would really have to taste fantastic for me to feel it was worth the five bucks. If I was really concerned about eating organic I might think that paying double the normal cost of a non-​organic tamale was worth it but I’m not and I don’t. I do think this is a good choice for those of you that want to eat organic and don’t mind paying extra to do so.

Can I give more stars? Amazing! Great flavor, large portions, organic and handmade. Did I say amazing? I love tamales and these are by far the best that I have ever tasted. The blue corn and cheese and sasquatch were the favorites when I took a dozen to the office. Even so, there were none left over for me to take back home. Do yourself a favor and get a dozen or two. Worth every penny.

Blue corn tamales with cheese and chiles are worth a ten star review, as is the ease with which you can order these deliciosu works of masa from the lovely güera tamalera. I LOVE tamales, and it’s so hard to find ones that taste good and are lard free (I’ve been told that that’s an oxymoron), not to mention she has several varieties of VEGAN tamales.

Awesome tamales. Great tasting with a great selection. Cost more than a street tamale but heck, these are delivered HOT to your door! How great is that? Here’s my full review if you’re interested with a few photos as well.

Alright, let’s be real here. The tamales are really just plain «ok.» i decided to give «White Girl Tamale Maker» a shot one Saturday out of pure curiosity (and against my greater judgement). The non-​traditional flavors and ingredients intrigued me — though I must say that I consider myself a staunch traditionalist when it come to my tamales (and beans, and tortillas, and for christssake stop putting fruit in my salsas). Anyhow! I thought I would give the kale tamale a go! I mean I LOVE kale, and though I’m a traditionalist when it comes to my tamales, I’m a free-​loving hippy when it comes to my greens. I’d even go as far to say that I’m a kale, beet tops, spinach, arugula, chard slut. Moving on. I hand over my $ 5+ dollars for my tamale and think to myself «I’ve never spent more than $ 2 on a tamale in east LA ever. EVER.» I eat tamales almost every day for lunch due to pure geography (Lincoln Heights) and you have got to be kidding me if you think that a tamale should ever cost more than $ 2. Well… I ended up paying $ 5 for a dry and mediocre tamale. I’ll take my La Mascota (brown girl) tamales anyday. Let’s just be honest here, regular tamales aren’t that bad for you to begin with and I’m tired of these «healthy hipsters» taking something that was completely perfect to begin with turning it into yet another over-​priced, mediocre imitation of something that has been avidly mastered for over 7,000 years (it’s true, tamales started in Mesoamerica around 5000 BCE).
Just sayin.

I just want to say that hands down these tamales are the best that I’ve ever tasted in my entire life AND I’M LATINO!
I first tried these tasty treats back when «La Guera» was making them at the downtown LA art walk. It was at this location where she blew me away with her quality ingredients, flavor filled combinations, and her passion for the art of tamale making. This «Guerita» has done a bang up job and I can guarantee that if you try any of her creations you will slip into food bliss (ESPECIALLY HER BLUE CORN WITH CHEESE TAMALE).
The only thing I have to complain about is the high price point, but then again quality ingredients, organic components, and farm raised meat will set you back a pretty penny anywhere you eat.

Those tamales are bomb!!! I have @ last found the food component to my growing Banda singing career EL GAVACHILLO! Buying these for my CD release!

I’m torn about this, because I really feel that five dollars is a ridiculous price for one tamale. But, then again, organic, non-​GMO ingredients are also pretty expensive (especially organic, free-​range meats), and I get the feeling they don’t cut corners here. I was starving at Cafecito Organico and couldn’t leave (working online!), so I caved and got a tamale. I got the chicken because the pork was sold out. It was really good! Very moist and flavorful. Still, don’t come too hungry or you’ll spend fifteen dollars on tamales.

The kale tamale is so good! I could eat like 3 of those. especially paired with an iced latte. She puts little cannelli beans (i think?) inside so it’s extra healthy!
Tried the bf’s chicken too and it was just as delicious!

Oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my freakin god these things are delicious.
I’ve had so many tamales that are dry and crumbly and choke up your throat. Ugh. Maybe I’m unlucky.
These tamales are just fantastic. The pork is zesty, Sasquatch is slightly sweet and smells like Thanksgiving, the chicken is tangy and the strawberry banana melts on your tongue.
Granted, they are expensive at $ 5 a pop, but it’s worth it. It seems like every tamale is made with TLC.

LOVED these tamales when I had one the other night at roller derby. Great flavor, I adore that they are organic, love their affiliation with Mama’s Hot Tamales. Totally tasty, totally good FOR you, I’m happy. Had the pork, and can’t WAIT to try more! Plus the person selling them was super nice. :) At $ 5 a pop, they’re twice as much as any others you’ll find, but, I guess that’s what happens when you go organic.

La Guera’s delicious made-​from-​scratch tamales use fresh, organic ingredients that never come out of a can — including, but not limited to, non-​GMO corn masa (corn meal dough), organic vegetable oil, organic herbs and spices, organic free-​range chicken, and organic cheese. She also uses local produces sourced from farmer’s markets, and her tamales have no lard or trans fat.
The La Guera menu of both savory and sweet tamales is a real treat — the Chicken Tamale in Green Sauce is a definite must-​try, with its tender shredded organic chicken and delicious homemade tomatillo salsa. The Spinach & Mushroom is a vegan tamale made with locally grown spinach and local organic shiitake mushrooms that is so satisfyingly earthy and tasty, you won’t miss the meat.
If you’ve never had a dessert tamale, you’ll be amazed at how good the Strawberry Tamale is, with its fresh, organic farmers’ market strawberries.

La Guera seriously rocks! These are really, really tasty, good options for the vegans and vegetarians, but our meat eaters love them as well. In fact, they’ve been eating them every day since we got ‘em.
Let me explain. We when non-​traditional this year (for us) and got tamales for Christmas Day meal.
La Guera brought them to our house ON CHRISTMAS DAY. That’s right.
We got a mix of the vegan, veggie, pork, and chicken; then we also got the mung beans and rice mix. Everything was excellent and high quality. The mung beans and rice are delicious, although not what you might be expecting with your tamales. It’s got an Indian flavor to it (and she says so on her web site).
I warn those though who are used to cheap tamales, they will seem expensive at first glance, but consider what you are getting: 1) NO LARD (that’s good), 2) truly quality ingredients — organic and/​or local, 3) she BRINGS THEM TO YOUR HOUSE!, 4) lots of yummy salsa and sour cream, 5) great and cheerful service (so rare).
If you like tamales, and you appreciate good service, TRY THEM.

I was fortunate enough to try La Guera Tamalera (aka White Girl Tamale Maker as it says on the owner’s business card) at a party at a boutique-​clothing store this summer.
At first I was shocked to see that the guests were permitted to eat food within three feet of exorbitantly priced, hand-​made clothing, but after tasting a few tamales I was convinced that they had their priorities straight.
Even my friend (who is from Veracruz) said the tamales rival the ones he grew up on, and at this particular party they only served Vegetarian and Vegan tamales.
I’m calling the next trend: this will be the new In&Out for the party throwers of L.A.

Wow, I got to try a new tamale last night thanks to one of our friends.
Our friend decided to do another post-​Silverlake Wine tamale party in honor of celebrating a great job opp.
He order a huge batch of tamales:
PORK (still my favorite)
Chicken with Green Sauce (mmmm, so good)
and the brand new
Strawberry (yes, I said strawberry)
I think there were a dozen each, but by the end of the night… pretty much all gone!!!
I cannot tell you how great the tamales went with the wine, (trust me, it was a match made in heaven) but the biggest surprise was the Strawberry dessert tamale!!! The filling was divine!
I look forward to more exciting flavors now that spring has sprung!!!
