LA Derby Dolls

It was my first derby roller experience and it was great! The game is pretty fast paced and it gets confusing at times, but they made the effort to explain what was going on in the game and there’s also a guy walking around who can answer questions we may have. The leading team had twice the score of the opposing team so the match wasn’t as exciting as I had hoped :(
Parking was not a problem for us, we managed to get free street parking nearby and walked over. If not, it’s $ 10 for self parking at their lot just next to the venue.
I was expecting many food trucks but there were only two — a hotdog stand and Cousin Maine’s Lobster. I mean it’s great but really overpriced. (They raised their prices for this event if I’m not wrong) There are also little pop up stores in the venue selling snacks, drinks, cupcakes, souvenirs etc.
We got general admission for $ 10 + $ 1.50 service charge (yay student price!) so we had to stand for the match. There was plenty of waiting time, but I don’t think I would’ve paid ~$ 20 extra for the bleachers seating. Doors open at 6.30PM, and the match starts at 8PM. We went at 7PM and the place was still pretty empty. Even by 8PM, there were still plenty of standing room available. Next time I definitely wouldn’t go too early just to stand around.

My sister brought me here as a bday surprise because we both have always wanted to attend a roller derby match! Our experience fulfilled our expectations and then some! The girls are amazing! The venue is really cute and it has just the right amount of edge to it. I can’t wait to come back (:

Super fun! I’ve followed roller derby for years, and the games are a riot– tickets are super cheap and they serve alcohol up until the end of halftime. Cute little vendor booths featuring local artists, small shops, and merch. Even if you don’t know anything about roller derby, everyone seems pretty cool about answering your questions or if you watch closely you can ascertain for yourself how points are scored. Standing only for non VIP ticket holders, but there are some higher elevated stands so you can still get a good view. Oh man, it gets hot in the arena though. There is a back patio if you wanna cool off or bring your food and drinks outside. Paid parking or you can try for street, but the surrounding neighborhood is a tad industrial type seedy so proceed with caution.

Kick ass women playing a highly competitive sport on roller skates? What a great time! Perfect for an exciting date night. Can’t wait to come back!

I’ll admit at first I was like wait, how much are these VIP tickets? But like. It’s LA. It’s 2015. I remember when gas cost a nickel. Local shows are in the $ 30-​$ 40 range, and don’t get me started on professional sports. It’s a totally reasonable to pay under $ 40 for our night.
I’d been a frequent visitor to the old Doll Factory, and I am excited about the new facility. I agree with one of the other posters, it’s more intimate. The standing risers and availability are WAY better, and I really dig the back patio with the sweet mural action.
Talking to the skaters and refs during the event reminded me that everyone’s volunteering their time and working pretty hard to keep the doors open on something they love. Check them out if you are a fan of passion!

Love these Dolls! Food, drinks, and big hits is all I can ask for and these ladies deliver!
Fun for a guys night out before hitting the bar or for the little ones (especially it if you have girls and want to show them some strong female roll models).

Saw the Sirens vs Cookie (Something) it was a real exciting match. The venue is nice and they had food trucks.
–1 star for the cost of VIP tickets. I know this is LA but the word VIP shouldn’t be used with Rollerderby. VIP means you can sit in the bleachers and it’s about $ 35. WAYYYYY overpriced.
–1 star for not getting a beer/​liquor license and telling everyone about that at the door. So even if you did get that VIP band it’s aint gonna do much for ya.
I would like to go to see another event but will probably skip it because of the cost. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. And the teams were highly entertaining.

I loved the old Derby Dolls on Temple but this one was awful.
We were there on a Saturday night (Oct 10), and nothing was as promised. No food except an overpriced lobster food truck with $ 14 – 18 dishes or a hot dog cart; no liquor or bars as advertised; and the standing seats are awful. They also make no sense — is it that much more expensive have stadium seats!!!
The woman who helped our group («Remix») was lovely but I will NOT be going back again. Too bad because Derby Dolls used to be one of my favorite LA events.

Great night out for the whole family. My husband and kids enjoyed it as much as I did.

This was my first roller derby visit and it was definitely an interesting experience. It was a lot of fun and they did a great job of explaining the game so that we could tell what was going on. The match itself was a bit of a blowout, so it was maybe less exciting than it would’ve been if close, but still a lot of fun to watch. There actually wasn’t as much action as I guess I expected — but still very fast-​paced. Overall nice different way to spend a few hours.

This place is where blood, sweat, and Notorious RED spray are left on the track. It’s the best place to catch roller derby and grab a beer and meet new friends. There are beginners courses you are able to take to become your own hero.

Anyone that loves Roller Derby I recommend you grabbing some of your friends and making a night of it, you won’t regret it. I have been wanted to go for years and finally my girlfriend bought me tickets as a small early pre birthday gift and we went with friends and we had so much fun.
We sat outside and enjoyed some drinks before the game started and enjoyed the karaōke. They have a bar inside for the 21 and over crowd. They also have delicious food trucks that you can eat from. We ate before we got there but boy did it smell so good inside. Even though we ate it didn’t stop me from grabbing some yummy cupcakes that they sold which were 2 for 5 not bad at all.
The roller derby game was so much fun and if you don’t know what’s going on don’t worry they explain everything to you on a monitor and they also hand out a pamphlet when you walk in explaining the rules of the game. Which is nice because it saved me from explaining to my girlfriend. The game was action packed. After the game you get to take pictures with the players and they even have an after party at a near by bar if you want to hangout with the players even more which I thought was pretty cool. I am a roller derby fan for life now. See you at the next game.

I love watching the fast paced action of the Derby Dolls. Its great entertainment with local brew, and food. Plus those girls kick butt! Go tough cookies!

For anyone who has never seen roller derby, go now. Go as fast as you can and never look back. I blew out a tire on the way here last time, changed it in ten minutes and drove the rest of the way there because I didn’t want to miss a second.
They are incredibly accommodating to anyone who’s never seen a match and explain the rules easily. It’s an incredible sport too that works well. I’m sure that there is a ton of overlap in fan base, but I’d watch this sooner than rugby any day.
also they have a great selection of locally brewed beers and food trucks. so definitely go, I am probably buying season tickets.

After a long run in Echo Park, the LA Derby Dolls have moved to a new warehouse!
I swung by their soft opening last weekend and was pleasantly surprised!
For starters, the new neighborhood is GREAT. I live in Eagle Rock, just a short drive away from El Sereno, and I’ve never been there. Just outside of Alhambra, it really is a wonderful community!
I have to admit — I kind of prefer this new warehouse better! It’s technically a little smaller, but everything is in one room. It’s much more intimate, and you can grab something from the food trucks, shop in Vendor Village, etc., and still hear the announcers. At the last location, vendors were in a different room, and the food trucks were WAY outside.
There are now two sets of VIP bleachers, and tons of General Admission standing risers from the old location made their way over. Maybe I’m crazy, but the standing risers SEEM closer to the track, which is really exciting as a fan! I know the skaters can hear me heckling them now!
If you’re thinking of checking out a game, stop thinking, and do it. These ladies bust their butts to entertain our butts, and I think they’re simply the best. Pro tip — take a Lyft to the bout. That way you don’t have to worry about parking!
