L.A. County Department of Health -- Restaurant Ratings

LA County Health Dept, overall, does an excellent job of inspecting restaurants. They are independent of the restaurant or its owner. They have high standards. Some of their reviews are unannounced, those reviews are the best. Actually, all reviews should be unannounced.
Scares the restaurant into maintaining clean eateries (read = less chance of a patron getting food poisoning). The restaurants all strive to get an «A» rating but some just don’t understand enough English to know what the sanitary standards are in the county. They even check on the food carts and trucks. I mean if you are going to sell food to the public, you had better darn well know what the sanitary standards are. I have no doubt they might miss on a rating but I have yet find that happening. The inspectors are not corrupt9ible which is outstanding.
Some of these comments below have nothing to do with the inspection service. And a fly can come in the door without anyone knowing it. The commentary of finding an insect in the cup should have been simultaneously reported to the LA County Food Inspection Service. The restaurants lackadaisical response should equally be reported. The inspection service is not
responsible nor should it be downgraded due to an insect in one cup in one restaurant,
especially where the patron didn’t report this experience to the inspection service, assuming no games were being played. I think this was a real situation but nothing is !00% secure where anyone can write a review, as on Unilocal.Some of their reviews tell you more about the reviewer than what is being reviewed.

Found a roach in my drink at Doublz restaurant in Paramount, CA. I, immedately, took the cup back and showed the staff. They wanted the cup to show the manager the next day. Called manager the next day to make sure he was aware. He said he didn’t know anything about the incident. I texted a pic of the roach in my cup with my name to the the manager. He offered no apology and said he would let the owner know and they would call me back. No one called me back. So, I called and the owner who didn’t even know my name or initiate an apology, instead, tried to place blame somewhere else. When a customer comes to you with a roach act like you care even if you don’t.Nasty establishment and Nasty attitudes.

This site works. There are some places out there you might not want to visit for a meal. The site isn’t as user friendly as it should be, but it provides useful information. I like to know if a place had hot water — how are you cleaning those dishes? Or if they recently had a visit from the local vermin. Yes, this is a good informative web-​site for the general public.
