Katt’s classes never compromise on what she always reminds us acting is truly about: connection, the heart, and soul. Her ability to bring this out in every student is truly astounding. She also has a clear sense of what professional actors need to know, and do. No other class or experience has come close to helping me move toward my full potential, with confidence. Katt’s class is a safe place to take the risks that propel you to greatness. So grateful she is willing to take the time to share the wealth of all she knows, in the way only she can.

I have taken Katt’s classes for most of last year (2015) She’s a wonderful teacher and is fair and honest when offering critiques of her students! I especially enjoyed her «Bring It» class and hopefully I’ll be back sometime soon to keep my skills sharp! Shes a kind person with a valuable technique for actors of all ages! I highly recommend her class!

I am so pleased with what Katt has done with my two kids. JD, her assistant is a great person also… I didn’t want to forget JD! Katt took my two teens and did more in one session than I could in four months. They are both loving acting now and had a taste of success and whatever magical way they use works well. Katt is an incredible acting teacher!
I was nervous before my first private Skype session but she immediately put me at ease as we started working on our scene.
I have had my share of poor experiences with bad teachers. I have had people ramble on for the whole hour, then charge me $ 100. I have had people critique me in negative ways that didn’t help but only made things worse. I have had people talk about themselves, what awesome teachers they are or how once they shook hands with Al Pacino (I don’t care about Al Pacino right now, it is MY lesson, focus on me).
Katt is a complete opposite of that. Each lesson is focused on my needs, goals, what I need to work on. Katt is very professional, always on time and never wastes a minute. The lesson is an hour long and we work for every minute. This is just how a professional teacher should be.
More importantly, Katt teaches you LEGIT exercises that help you get out of your head and allow your HEART to do the scene. I have had teachers tell me «I’m moving my mouth too much», «not enough» and other such nonsense. Katt’s philosophy is if you get out of your head, your heart will FEEL how to do the scene so you won’t need to be told how to move your head or any such ridiculous things.
As evidenced by my progress (I have a video track record thanks to Katt), she was absolutely right.
Her exercises are deceptively simple, pointed and seem kind of crazy at first but once you’re done and you do another take, the results are nothing short of transformational. As we have worked through the last few months, these habits have become deeper and deeper ingrained in me and I am so much more connected to my true self in every situation (acting or otherwise) and SO out of my head.
What I love the most is that Katt doesn’t tell you (like other teachers) to «get out of your head». Easier said, then done, right? Well, Katt doesn’t tell you that, she has you do the exercises and you get out of your head on your own, without her criticizing you or telling you. This is a mark of a TRUE teacher. Telling me to get out of my head doesn’t help me but doing Katt’s exercises helped me get out of my head BIG TIME and in many ways I believe the changes that came as a result of our sessions are permanent.
Also, Katt is a genuinely nice person who believes in building people up instead of tearing them down. It’s a very positive, constructive environment.
Furthermore, she never TELLS you what to do but allows you to DISCOVER how YOU would do things. One of the most memorable things she told me was to trust MYSELF more than I trust anyone, even her. I think such attitude is exactly what makes one an artist rather than doing it «correctly» or becoming dependent on teacher’s approval.
In short, Katt is the real deal. Genuine, professional and most of all her techniques work like nothing else I have tried so far. It really is as close to magic as I’ve ever encountered.
I feel lucky to have gotten a chance to work with her. If you want to get out of your head and become a better actor, there is no better teacher.
If I could take just one acting lesson in the world, it would be Katt’s, no doubt. I am very grateful for everything I have learned and would highly recommend Katt to anyone who wants to become a better actor.

I am an OG who studied every method under the sun. The sad things is, the more workshops I did, the worst I got. Countless of people told me «workshops» can hurt.
Before the great casting director Al Guarino died, he told me that you can only teach the basics in life. No one is really a guru, but find a coach who is kind spirited. Life is short, spend time with those people.
On another note, most acting wisdoms can be found on YouTube. You don’t need to spend your life savings listen to a Guru talked for 45 minutes (with 100 people agreeing with everything he said). God Bless those studios, but the industry doesn’t work that way.
Gurus made their studio into a show, and they’re the star of that show. But not here at this studio.
Theories on acting is done on your own time: Read Stanislavsky if u are the type in your head, and there is nothing new. But on the set and in the real world; you need to get out of your head and have fun again. After all, we’re called to do this right? We come here assuming we’re already gifted and just need to grow that gift.
Remember when we were 5 years old and we’re always believable when we act? Katt allowed us to go there. Acting is fun again.
I was never looking for an acting class after I decided not to be a priest, I just wanted to be around a group of human beings till old age.
Katt is not only an acting coach, but a wonderful human being. You feel loved and whole around her. What do I know? I should of been a priest, but I’ll tell you this is the closest you’ll come to «unconditional love».
After the audit, I drove home feeling like u want to cry out of joy. Regardless of years off, I did good and had fun. The students are extremely kind & supportive that it brought me to tears on my way home. Some of these students done some stuffs & they’re humble about it. You have to google their real names to find out.
Katt after all gave Leonardo DiCaprio a big break, directed Drew, & should of directed Jennifer Lawrence recently, and she downplayed everything. The students are just like their teacher, extremely humble and tend to downplaying their credits. Katt is a director who worked with A list actors, no other instructor in this town can say that. Directors usually don’t teach.
I have been around and too tired of competitive actors. I think this is GodSend & a hidden spot for those who find this place. Kind of like Willa Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
Can’t wait to start life over this upcoming October with this place.
I wish Unilocal would simplify everything by letting us rate a business or person with either «kind spirited» or «mean spirited». For years, they taught that you have to be nasty to be ahead in Hollywood, but not in this place.
Maybe I shouldn’t say anymore nice things, because the «competitive artists» would shows up here. Now, it is a small sacred sanctuary. j/​k lol.

I tell people that there is no such thing as «making it big». You just work on the set, and then go back to being sharp when you’re not working. With this place, even if you get the Oscars/​Emmys on Sunday’s night, if you’re not shooting another movie, u should be here on Thursday’s nights. Unless you bought front row seats like Jack Nicholson at the Lakers game, you should be here just the fact that «it is fun & inspiring”=)

I took a 6 week acting class years ago and ever since, it’s been something that I’ve wanted to revisit and make time for. I searched the web for a class and more importantly, a teacher that I connected with. I kept coming back to Katt Shea’s web site and felt it would be a good fit. I jumped in feet first and took my first class where I met with Katt privately prior to her main class. She was focused and kept me moving forward, getting me to feel the difference (and see the difference when I played back the videos that she uploads so you can view online) of expressing from your gut and staying out of your head. It was such a freeing experience to not intellectualize and book learn acting but feel it and connect with your own natural flow. After just one class I even felt a difference in my confidence. I’m excited about being able to «view» my progress and growth with each video and class. Katt Shea deserves my highest recommendation.

Given I am on the older side (50 – 62 range), Katt has been «very» patient with me. Her approach at teaching acting is actually similar to being on a top rated sports team… she starts her classes with a cold read and exercise that is a great «get out of your head» warm up. Katt does a comparative video at the end of class so a student is able to actually see his or her progress… great way to teach, great way to learn! I can tell that Katt’s passion is the progress and success of her students. As a very successful director and many years of experience in Hollywood, Katt’s resume is a testimonial of the quality of her teaching. I plan on being her student for a long time. Thank you Katt! Katt has taught me to get completely out of my comfort zone! I would have never guessed I’d have this much passion for something in life, butt Katt helped me discover that and now I feel confident to be in front of the camera, it’s not scary at all. I cannot recommend Katt enough! She has reminded me that acting is FUN! We so often get caught up with how we come across, sound like, look like, that we get into our heads. Katt has taught me to live in the moment and to not censor anything. Her exercises allows you to freely express yourself without fear.
You get to work 3 times in class, which is more that any of the acting classes I have ever taken. She also puts you on tape each class, which is valuable in watching your progress. Go audit her class and you’ll see what I mean =)

Feel so lucky to have found a teacher for our child who knows what directors are looking for since Katt is a working film/​TV director. I trust her advice completely and feel my son has the best odds possible with Katt as her mentor!

She absolutely helps you relax and just have fun, accept mistakes (just do it badly but do it). My acting got so relaxed after studying with her. I can get my personality into any role now.

Katt Shea has a unique and strong pre-​process to her cold read classes that, for me, work incredibly. I feel my heart racing, I feel it pumping; she finds a way to turn the actor into the ON position.
Her process is effective in silencing my mind and allowing me to just DO, just FEEL, and REACT honestly and in the moment.
I think her process also helps the actor feel out the possibilities of differences in ways of saying the lines which makes those tools readily available for the actor to pull from by being directed, in class, to ‘practice’ it in a multitude of ways before launching into doing it ‘for real.‘
Katt Shea’s goals for her actors aren’t unique [getting you out of your mind and into your body] but her methods, I believe, are; as well as quite effective.

Katt’s classes are awesome! If you want to become a great actor I highly recommend her technique. We all think we are great, but most of us are in our heads and thinking about a scene, acting the scene, performing based on expectations we create. Katt forces you to have fun, forget everything and just let go. Let go and you can’t help but live the scene, go between the lines and understand what’s happening.
She also gets you on camera every class and every actor must, must watch themselves on camera. You can not be great if you don’t know what your doing on camera. Such a fun and rewarding class!

I have, and continue to study with several different acting teachers in LA. But if I had to choose just one and only one class to take… it would be Katt’s class, hands down!
She is a remarkably giving and nurturing soul.
The exercises and methods she incorporates into this supportive workshop of very talented actors «open you up», keep you in the moment, and empower you to «trust your instincts», like none other that I have found.
The fact that she is an acclaimed film writer/​director (Poison Ivy, Carrie II etc) give her the unique insight and eye for what the camera «wants» to see from your work… this is one of the reasons why she is very different than almost all the teachers in town.

I highly, highly recommend writer, director, teacher, Katt Shea —
She has a wonderful technique that allows an actor to not only get out of their head and into their heart when acting but allows them to BE confident of their own performances and not need approval from anyone else. She never criticizes but gently guides a student to trust themselves. So many actors come to Katt when they’ve burned out in the business and they regain their love of acting. For me, it was being too left-​brain, too analytical and it got in the way of connecting with my gut, the other actor and the words. I also needed to have the approval of whoever I was auditioning or acting for. Now… I know when I’m good and when I’m ‘ON’ and I don’t ‘need’ anyone to tell me so. It’s great if they do! but I don’t need it.
Go take a class. You can audit and get to work 3 times in class that night. Try it for yourself. There’s nothing like experiencing what I’m talking about instead of just reading about it. Just do it. You won’t regret it.

I have studied with Katt for many years now, and I must say its one of the best acting classes I have ever taken. If it was anything less than stellar, I wouldn’t still be in class week after week! Katt has a way of getting you out of your head (a HUGE problem for a lot of actors), most of the time without you even realizing it.
Class is such a fun, safe environment; it’s something I look forward to every week (and truly miss if I have to be gone). I can honestly say I am a better actor because of Katt. I highly recommend the class!
