We offer a full range of ocular and optical needs. You can schedule a comprehensive eye exam and refraction. Dr. Gording also treats diseases of the eye. He is known as a contact lens specialist, fitting contacts for astigmatism, bifocals, or corneal deformities. We have a large selection of fashion frames.

Then there are the special effect contact lenses. They are used in many television shows and movies to create vampires, zombies, and many other creatures. The lenses can be used for Halloween or many other applications. We also provide lenses for people whose eyes have become disfigured due to trauma or disease. These lenses can be made to look like a normal eye.

History

Established in 1992.

After many years working for a large surgical group, Dr. Gording opened his own office. Our office is committed to technology by using a lot of instruments that measure and record different parts of the eye. This means that if you have a problem, you can often get answers immediately. The office was recently renovated, and the atmosphere is open and relaxed. Felix, the optician, has been with the office for 3 years. He is a true craftsman when it comes to finishing your frames. The come out looking great, and you can feel the difference as well as see it.

Dr. Gording is a therapeutic optometrist. In addition to examining the health of the eye, he is licensed to prescribe glasses, contact lenses, and treat eye diseases. After 9 years as a contact lens specialist for a large corneal specialty practice, Dr. Gording went into private practice. In addition to seeing private patients, he has been designing and prescribing special effect contact lenses to the motion picture industry for 20 years. Today, he still works closely with a corneal specialist. He is a staff member of Cedars-​Sinai Medical Center.

My family has been visiting Dr. Gording for years. He and his staff offer a warm and welcoming office with ample metered street parking. He is professional and friendly and takes the time to really give a thorough exam so that you walk away knowing you had the best care possible. His in-​office eyeglass selection is extensive and offers many choices should you need new frames. I can drop in anytime should I need eyeglass repairs. They are truly the office that has it all and his professional staff makes each visit a pleasant one.

I still love this office. EVERYONE in Dr. Gording’s office is super friendly and they always work with me to figure out the best way to utilize my insurance benefits (whether glasses or contacts are the better thing to submit for insurance coverage). I don’t feel like I’m being up-​sold like I have in the past with other eye doctors. I will continue to refer my friends to Dr. Gording.

Dr. Gording has been our families eye doctor for many years. My husband began seeing him while in college and we have been with him ever since, (our daughter is 20). Our son was not comprehending in school when he was in the 2nd grade. There is nothing more frightening to a parent, than the fear that something is wrong with their child. We brought him to Dr. Gording and through an eye exam, Dr. Gording found that he could not get our son through the exam. Our son was unable to name anything he saw. Hours later, and way into the dark, he found that our son had a visual processing issue. Our son knew what he was seeing but he couldn’t name it due to his visual, neurological wiring. Dr. Gording didn’t let it go, and he didn’t stop until he figured it out. He then set up a time, and our son went to Dr. Gording every week for vision and processing therapy. He also fit him for vision processing lenses. Our son, thank G-​D is a thriving teenager, successful in school, working very hard and earning A’s. He now needs to take the ACT and due to Dr. Gordings dedication, we have written proof of all of our sons hard work, and years of vision therapy. He is able to take the test directly in the booklet, which is necessary due to Dr. Gordings neurological findings. Dr. Gording has become our family and truly held our hand and helped us through a very difficult and stressful time.

Dr. Gording is the man. And he’s also a genius.
I had been to 5 optometrists before coming to Dr. Gording, all of whom had me in soft lenses and had taken my vision «as far as they could go.» I have a strange eye condition (an astigmatism on top of something called keratoconus) and glasses no longer work for me. When I got to Dr. Gording, he was well aware of my eye conditions and knew exactly how to fix my vision.
Dr. Gording put me in special hard lenses, something I was afraid of because I had heard they were uncomfortable. No only were they not uncomfortable, they’re awesome, my vision is better than it’s ever been — I’m 20⁄15 (!) and challenge all my friends to street-​sign-​reading-​contests and always win. Not only was he able to find me the right lenses, but he was patient with me and worked with me. The fitting was so precise that it took probably 10 different office visits and four months to get it EXACTLY RIGHT. But EXACTLY RIGHT he got it, and I think he was more excited that I was every time we got a step closer.
Well, today I had my final visit to Dr. Gording to pick up my new, perfect fitting, ferarri-​like, soft-​as-​warm-​butter-​but-​somehow-​still-​hard-​lenses. They’re perfect and although I no longer have to see Dr. Gording on the regular (once a year should suffice, says Doc), I really enjoyed the process and I am more-​than-​thrilled with the results. Thank you, Dr. Gording, really, thank you. I love being able to see again! Go see this man for all your optical needs, you won’t regret it, and his staff is just as lovely as he is.

I’ve been coming to Dr. Gording for about four years now. It was purely luck that I found him through my insurance, but I couldn’t be happier. I have extremely poor vision with an astigmatism, but he has done a great job helping me find contacts that work for me and fit well. He’s also great about indulging my questions — he’s patient, knowledgeable, and empathetic. His staff is great — they’re always friendly and quick to respond to calls. They are also very competent when it comes to figuring out complicated insurance questions, which has helped me to finally have back-​up glasses and enough contacts every year. I feel very fortunate that I started with Dr. Gording and wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.

I had very similar experience to Anne M in that everything seemed great until you need to get something fixed. And I totally agree with her assessment of the front desk staff and how they treat patients! Not to be trusted. I do have to say dr Gording did a very good job fitting me for contacts but then again I would expect a doctor to be good at their job. Every time I went in a new person was fitting me for glasses and the doctor even stated that he couldn’t rely on the manufacturing company and changed them all the time… I even got the“our computers crashed and we lost all our data, so we can’t help you resolve and manufacturing problem”. Be careful

I went to dr Gording because he was in my insurance plan. I am so happy that I chose him out of the tons of other doctors. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 8 and contacts since I was 12. however, dr Gording was the first doctor with whom I felt the most comfortable and confident. He also went above and beyond the appointment by helping me with options for lasik. He was very frank and honest about which procedures would be best for my eyes, and not his or his colleagues’ wallets. He definitely gets my recommendation.

I was recommended by a friend in the film industry to Dr. Gording. He was recommended as THE BEST eye doctor in town.
At the exam Dr. Gording was very nice and knowledgeable. I purchased a beautiful $ 300 frame and they added my prescription and transition lenses. Everything was great.
Three months later my lenses became wavy and distorted. I couldn’t wear them without getting nauseated. I ran into my friend and he asked me about my glasses. I told him what happened. He immediately called Dr. Gording’s office for me. They apologized and said that the transition coating must have deteriorated. They sent the glasses back to the lab and applied a new coating.
Several months later the SAME THING happened. This time they were not so nice. I talked to the front desk person, Mary, and she told me I must have let my glasses sit in the sun for extended periods. Not so. I asked to speak with Dr. Gording personally. He talked to me in a completely condescending manner (calling me «kiddo»…I’m a 45 year-​old business woman!) He said I already used my «free replacement» and his lab work was only good for 6 months… sorry!
Marched over to Costco to replace the lenses. They tested the prescription on Dr. Gording’s lenses and told me that there was NO prescription! They said there was a slight adjustment for astigmatism. I don’t have astigmatism. Costco put in new transition lenses with my prescription for half the price of Dr. Gording. They also advised me that their lab work is guaranteed for one whole year.
My advice… skip Dr. Gording and go to Costco.

Dr. Gording is the very best. Additionally, his staff members are kind and knowledgeable.
Not only does Dr. Gording treat you with care and interest, he also spends the time to explain your eye/​glass/​prescription situation. He let’s you know what to expect with a new prescription and how he came to his decision on how to adjust your lenses based on any changes in your eyesight. He is clearly passionate about his work, and willing you hash through any of your questions.
He makes going to the optometrist enjoyable and interesting.

I highly recommend Dr. Gording. I’ve been coming to him for my eye exams and prescription lens and frames for over fifteen years, and I have always been very happy with the quality of his work. The entire staff — from the women at the front desk to the gentleman who helps you with frames and lens options — are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. And as an appearance conscious professional in the film industry, I’ve always appreciated the wide selection of (affordable!) designer frames he keeps in stock.
In terms of Dr. Gording, not only is he a highly experienced and intelligent professional, who performs a very thorough and thoughtful exam and then takes the time to explain the results with you and discuss your options, but as others have commented, he’s a genuinely personable guy. I enjoy my annual visits!

I needed a new pair of spectacles + new prescription.
The entire staff was really friendly. My meter expired when i was in the examination room and the women at the front desk kept feeding the meter for me. Doctor Gording is a really nice man, he gave me an extremely accurate explanation of my problem and gave me 2 solutions. I was lucky they had my lenses and had time to cut them for the frame I choose. In 2 hours and a half I got my exam and my new glasses. I highly recommend Jonathan Gording. I already booked another appointment.

I haven’t written a review in years, but I feel motivated to do so after my visit here today.
Dr. Gording was personable, intelligent, thorough, and simply awesome. I not only walked out with contacts that help me see better than I have in the past year, but I also left with a very academic understanding of what the hell is wrong with my eyes. He never rushed the process and made sure I was following him every step of the way. The staff was fabulous as well.
I can’t recommend him enough — if you’re looking for a new eye doc or hate your current one LOOK NO FURTHER.

Dr. Gording was great, as was Anna, his assistant. I was debating on where to get contact lens fittings and a general eye exam done, and more because of proximity to my house than anything else, chose Dr. Gording’s office. Walked in, serviced promptly, and had a great experience. Dr. Gording was super personable, and took the time to explain everything that he found (never knew I had an astigmatism, let alone what that even is).
As a med student, he even explained some pathophys of various ocular diseases. Sick. It definitely made me feel a little better about not having studied at all that day, and I learned some cool facts that I would have otherwise never learned. I’ll definitely be back for my yearly checkups.
Dr. Gording, I’m still getting a 250 to start, but I’ll be upgrading to a 500 – 650 by next March or so :)

Dr. Gording and his team are great!!!
The thing I like the most about Dr. Gording is that he is thorough, honest, and to the point! (And he takes insurance!)
I was overdue for an eye exam and wanted new frames. Dr. Gording tweaked my original prescription (which I definitely needed), I picked out new frames, and I received my glasses in 1 week! They don’t pressure you to get expensive frames, everything is very easy going and his team is very personable!
Overall, there was no hassle, to the point service, and I left with a great pair of glasses!
