I was getting gas nearby and decided to check out if there were any good eats in the area. Pulled out my Unilocal app and lo-and-behold, «Hopia Like It» popped up on my phone screen. What a hip, groovy name indeed that matches well with their sweet treats. It’s also a favorite Filipino dessert snack of mine. For those unfamiliar with hopia, it’s bean-filled dessert consisting of tender flaky pastry filled with sweetened yellow mung bean paste(mungo), red bean or ube yam paste. Nowadays, there are more variations to choose from when it’s comes to fillings. They’re located on a corner strip mall, Saticoy St. and Winnetka. The shop is actually an extension of Kalesa Grill which is Filipino point to point fast food place. The food part is on left and baked goods on the right. My visit is primarily for hopia which is displayed behind glass divider. 89 cents each or $ 10 for dozen. Flavors consisted of the following: Red bean Ube Buko pandan Guava Pineapple Yellow mungo(mung bean) Baboy(pork) I ordered dozen and got 4 each of ube, buko pandan and yellow mungo. Both the ube and buko pandan were masarap(delicious). The flakiness of pastry and flavors of the fillings were on point. Good texture and chew too. I thought the yellow mungo was okay, nothing to write home about. Other baked items sold Pandesal, Bibinka Spanish bread. The name says it all«hopia like it» and yes I did. Look forward to coming back and try other delicious flavors soon.

best hopia baboy I’ve ever tasted. A lot of Hopia flavors to choose from. Freshly baked everyday. Even after 3 days from day of purchase, it still tastes good. They also ship orders to anywhere in the US. Cheese pandesal/Spanish bread and other baked items are also excellent in every way.

4.5 stars Found this place on Unilocal after searching for bibingka in the surrounding area. There was a line when we arrived around 3pm for the food(Kalesa Grill). Shared parking lot inside a plaza with Carl’s Jr. Ordered 4 bibingka’s($ 3.50 each) and 4 ube hopia’s($ 0.89 each). The ube hopia had a nice buttery & flaky crust on the outside, mmm. I’ll have to come back for the pandan hopia! The bibingka’s were good, but i’ve had better. I wish they were a little more moist and contained a bit more cream cheese & salted egg. I didn’t see much in any of the four we ordered. Definitely want to come back to try the breads and other baked goods!

I love Filipino food and was totally excited to give this place a try! I came on a weeknight after work. Hopia Like it shares a space with a cafeteria style Filipino restaurant: Kalesa Grill. Firstly, all the staff here is very friend and helpful. I asked lots of questions about the different types of pancit they had, as well as the different types of fish collar they had that night. I tried their pancit bihon and got the tuna collar. I also ordered a lumpia shanghai(which they call something different and I cannot recall what). I also, of course, got a dozen of their hopia! One of each flavor there, which included yellow mung bean(mongo), peanut and onion, red bean, ube and buko pandan. I got everything to go and sampled it all once I arrived home. Firstly, the hopia is GREAT! I am a hopia newbie but you can just tell how well made and fresh these hopia are. They are all delicious in their own way, but the onion and peanut really stood out as my favorite of the bunch, excluding the ube one of course! Any of them are divine with a cup of coffee. Do yourself a favor and give these a try!

YESFINALLY A DECENTFILIPINOEATERY!!! Im sure many of you can sense my excitement. Why? I grew up with the food and just got back from the Philippines from vacation. I was missing my family there and came upon this eatery. I had a dish with eggs, rice, and fried fish. It was tasty and not over or under cooked. The hopia was excellent. It really melts in your mouth! I will be back.

Never ever buy their overprice and tasteless siopao. The meat on on bola bola siopao is like 1⁄10 of the bun and so small. Worse, they sell it to you cold and hard, so you can’t eat it immediately, needless to say, you have to heat it yourself! Hopia is just ok, definitely NOT the BEST, it has a nice texture and not so sweet but with a thick crust, I would rather buy at Lilian’s near Costco Northridge, the taste is better and you have a better deal, unlike their dozen deal, their ube hopia is way much better. The only real good hopia here that you can’t find anywhere else is buko pandan hopia but I have no plans of coming back just for that.

As expected their hopia is good. But the reason i gave them 3 stars, i tried the ilocano mami and empanada and I’m not happy at all. The mami doesn’t have any taste and the empanada is soak in oil. Literally, when you take a bite, you can feel the oil coming out and it sticks on your hand. I hope they can improve this. I’ll give this place another shot and I will try their other selection of food because it looks good, and hopefully, i can bump up the stars to 5.

OMG… Hands down, the best hopia I have ever had in my life. My daughter’s response after trying one: «These are AMAZING.» And amazing they are. I’ll have to agree with the other Unilocaler that says that these are better than Hilda’s in SF. We tried mongo, ube and buko panda. There were all equally delicious. So flavorful and not too sweet. In my opinion the crust is what makes it sooo good! It’s not too dry and has the right amount of flakiness. My mouth is watering as I write this. Only bad thing is that there are only two locations in SoCal. Hope they expand to NorCal soon, otherwise I may try ordering online whenever I need my hopia fix.

Get the hopia. Made fresh and most fresh I have tasted in Los Angeles. I usually get the Eng Bee Tin hopia of the Philippines from the Filipino grocery store. This is even better because it is made fresh. Just go and thank me later. Wow.

I have been coming here for the best hopia in town. The ube, monggo and peanuts original is my favorite. Gerry, the owner always gives me something to try like ensaymada which is awesome. And don’t forget there’s turo turo food too. Keep up the good work. Btw kudos to the staff they are helpful and accommodating …

This place is a great find. They have a great selection of hopia: yellow bean, pork, ube, red bean and buko pandan. The hopia is flaky on the outside with some yummy goodness on the inside. They use halaya for their ube hopia and there’s just nothing like it out there. And trust me I’ve been to a lot of Filipino bakeries. For someone who has not been to the Philippines in a while, this bakeshop is a one stop shop for everything you miss. They also have pandesal, bibingka, empanada, siopao, ensaymada, spanish bread, egg pie, cream cheese roll, guava roll and even chocolate crinkles. They even have party platters. I think the name«Hopia Like It» is soo catchy! Big thumbs up!

One of the best hopia bakeries I’ve tried! Not as much selection since they share the restaurant with Kalesa Grill(which is also pretty good!) but obviously according to their name, their emphasis is on hopia. I tried four different flavors: Mungo(standard flavor), Ube, Buko Pandan, and Red Bean. They also had Baboy hopia(onion/peanuts) but I was feeling more on the sweet side today. All of them were delicious. Their dough was flaky but not over baked. They were warm and the insides were moist and tasty. You order by the dozen and it’s for a pretty good price. Probably going to order some for the holidays! Some of their other selections include pandesal(regular & cheese), Bibingka, Empanadas, Siopao, Egg Pie, and a few others. Definitely would recommend this for everyone to try!
