Wanted and craved Chinese food for Chinese New Year and my boo mentioned this restaurant and we decided to try it! It was surprisingly delicious with well service because usually many Asian restaurants have rude service! But they were very friendly and the portions were large for the price that we were paying! It was delicious and the atmosphere was good as well! Parking was across the street! I ordered Peking duck and it was scrumptious.

I usually order the great lunch specials when I come here, but this time I ordered a Peking duck, lobster with ginger and green onion, sautéed mixed vegetables, and assorted seafood in a bird’s nest(fried noodle basket) to celebrate a special occasion. I called in the order and it was pretty much ready when I got there. I’m so used to getting free white rice with the lunch specials that I was surprised that they charged for rice on such an expensive order. The man was nice and helped carry the box of food to my car. The dishes were all very attractive and tasty. The only drawback of this place is the tiny parking lot shared with the neighboring restaurant.

I am not giving a low score because of the food but because of the THERUDEWAITER we had waiting on us. They have some crazy angry Asian Waiters or was it because we were Black. Went there for New Years Dinner New Years Day 2016 I had raved about the whole fried fish to my husband and the way we were treated was horrible. The food is great but service VERY disappointed will not eat there again. So disappointed.

Went there and the waiter was not friendly. When asked about the size of the portion, he angrily said«I don’t know how hungry you are». To make things worse, he never came to our table to ask for a refill on drinks and we had to flag him down for our bill. No thanks!

Came on Christmas Eve. For this area of town decent food and price. Had a 6 pm reservation for which we had to pester to get seated at 6:20. By 6:34 we were able to ask for water! I would only recommend for maybe lunch or an early dinner after shopping at the mall. Not for dinner if you are hungry or in a rush.

Aiight so I’ve been coming here for years. Family loves this spot. It’s good Chinese take out food. 1. Walnut shrimp 2. Peking duck 3. Fish with black bean 4. Spicy fried squid(calamari) 5. Lo mein house special noodles My favorite dishes here. I do admit one time out of the many I’ve been here the duck seemed little dry and the shrimp seemed like it wasn’t cooked fresh. But honestly it wasn’t horrible just not as good as if you come right before the dinner rush(tonight’s was best — everything was on point: crispyness not too salty) That one night was a miss but otherwise it’s good and tasty.

Typical family style Chinese restaurant with the round tables and all. There were fourteen of us so we ordered plenty. Orange beef, chow mein, green beans, beef and broccoli, Peking duck, and about ten other dishes I do not recall clearly, as we were all stuffing our faces as fast as the dishes came out, as evidenced by my picture. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious. Service was fast and efficient. Prices were fair. This seems to be the go to Chinese restaurant when my family comes to visit the Chinese side of the family. It’s good. You will take a second plate. And a third…

Inside tip from an American-born Chinese: when a Chinese restaurant has the word«seafood» in its title it’s usually the good Cantonese stuff and super legit. Hop Li is no exception! This is legit Cantonese Chinese food, from the complimentary hot tea that’s placed on your table without you asking, to the fresh orange slices that Arrive at the end of your meal. On the westside it seems the best Chinese restaurant is a battle between Hop Li(original location in DTLA Chinatown), Hop Woo and Mandarin Kitchen. I tried one of my favorite dishes tonight at Hop Li– crispy Hong Kong style pan fried noodles topped with gravy, meat and veggies. I chose fish(only $ 9.95) and I like that they gave me the option to do it with a brown sauce versus the regular white. Tons of fish, huge portion of perfectly done noodles, and the bok choy was CLEAN! No dirt in the crevices as with usual Chinese restaurants. The restaurant was nearly empty at 840pm on a Wednesday and my food arrived in 5 minutes! Next time I want to get the house special which will have assorted meats($ 11.50). The best part of this place is NOMSG! This is why I generally don’t eat Chinese food much because I don’t like feeling sickly and parched afterward so I’m grateful they omit it here. Also, the place is nice enough inside to bring your parents although the service is barely attentive. Tip: has its own parking lot, or $ 1.50 valet if full. Fee is waived for to-go orders

We have being going to the Hop Li restaurant in Chinatown for years. The West LA location is much better because it is cleaner and roomier with more tables. The food at both locations are about the same. Our favorite dishes are the Deep Fried Flounder, Walnut Shrimp, Pork Chop with Spicy Salt and Crispy Deep Fried Chicken. The service is here is great but sometimes it’s difficult to understand the servers because of their lack of English.

Their Pork Chop with Spicy Salt is more delicious than ever! The waiter is more grumpy than ever too. Yes, a classic chinese restaurant. Also, still delicious are their Shrimp with Honey-Glazed Walnuts and Hot-Braised String Beans. The Won Ton Soup is so-so. Not recommended is their Yang Chow Fried Rice. It is lackluster – and hardly has meat. Just order steamed rice. Back to the service, bussers are actually nice and so are the valet parkers.

Limited street parking when it’s dinner time; especially with the other restos nearby. They have vallet though. Service is good. They’re nice and constantly refilling drinks. Took of a star for their bland food during our big family and friends Lauriat dinner(sweet & sour fish, and citrus-cooked beef). Seems they have also overcooked the calamari. One thing stayed consistent though, the Walnut Shrimp was the same as other Chinese restos. I’ll give them another try but maybe with a smaller group.

Good chinese food. Very good price. New decoration is on the way. It was time to change it. Many servers does not speak English. Find David, he is such a great guy. He has been working there for 30 years! No kidding 30 years. I have been there often since 2000, he still has the same energy. Honey glazed shrimp. Chinese Broccoli(no oyster souce) Sweet and sour soup are the best. Thank you

Location: Parking is valet only because they have an EXTREMELY tiny parking lot. They also share the valet with the Brazilian place next store. There are a few metered spots on the street, but they are pretty much always taken. No matter what day of the week you go. Service: This location is where you want to go if you want Hop Li. Service is always good — just don’t expect extra effusive politeness. They are prompt and to the point. Which means food comes out quickly! Food: Every regular has their standing orders and usually ours goes something like this: Pan fried noodles, sweet and sour pork, black pepper beef, white fish with black bean sauce, braised green beans, sizzling rice soup and white rice. Delish. We’ve tried other things on the menu from time to time and have never been disappointed. Overall: Dependable delicious chinese food with less than great parking, but worth the craziness.

I come here at least 4 times a year because for some reason, my grandma loves this place. My family usually orders a variety of food, including walnut shrimp, tofu, and pan fried noodles. We always order their fish too because the fish is actually pretty good! This location can get pretty busy during the holiday seasons, so if you want to get a seat, it would be best to come from 5 – 6 before the dinner rush. They do take reservations, but one time during Christmas, we made a reservation at 5:30. When we came in though, they didn’t even follow their reservation list! The whole restaurant was packed, and there were people just crowding the doorway and even some people waited outside because there was no space inside. Their food is decent, but I wouldn’t wait for a long time to eat here(and we didn’t — we left to eat elsewhere that day).

Quick and dirty review: Cheap and fast service, pretty decent food. There is a saying when it comes to food and its«Good, Cheap, Fast,» choose two. This basically means that there is always a balance– very rarely are you ever going to have a perfect balance of all three. I came here for a lunch special and for less than $ 10, you get a large serving of your favorite entrée, soup, and rice. Go with another person and you have a pretty cheap lunch. I started out with the hot and sour soup which was good but nothing special. Didn’t stop me from eating the entire thing. Entrees we had were Broccoli Beef and kung pao chicken. Both were pretty good but nothing special. The service was friendly and very fast which is a big plus. Parking is hell but there is valet so that is a big plus. Overall, I would come back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, as it is way on the other side of LA.

Just as good as the Santa Monica location. Had the steamed fish with onions and Fuzhou fried rice(which is really amazing btw). I think it was more expensive at this location but the portion was more too so I’ll PROB have this for lunch and part of dinner trm lols. Parking is valet at their lot or street which is usually next to impossible to find so I’ll PROB stick to the sm location mostly bc it has a parking garage. As always, service is really good esp for an asian place– at both hop li’s I’ve been to. Hop Li is def one of my all time fav chinese places and I don’t care what anyone says^^ i feel so blessed to have them in west la! Come here for real chinese food for a reasonable price!

Always a pleasant dining experience. Prompt and friendly service. David the server is the nicest. You get a lot of food for decent pricing. They offer Fresh hot tea to start before your meal. Choice of white or brown rice. Variety of different dishes on the menu to choose from. They also end your meals by offering oranges and fortune cookies as dessert.

Poor Poor Hop Li, got a B from the Health Department(12 – 2014). Hopefully they can pull out it? I never patronize a restaurant that gets less than an A from the Dept., because it’s not too hard to get an A, and most restaurants by far have an A so B concerns me a lot. But we ate here anyway. Why? Because we were told to by the host – the mother of a nice young lady visiting from NYC celebrating her birthday. The mom, a local, picked it and was hosting so we had no say. The mom was dining here for the first time too – of the 10 guests, not one had been here before. The mom was told by her nephew that he has a friend whose uncle’s neighbor’s girlfriend’s sister’s babysitter’s father’s co-worker dines here all the time and loves it!(She said something like that when I asked her.) We ordered a lot of food and here is my summary: Chicken with Fresh Veggies: 4 of 5 Shrimp with Fresh Veggies: 5 of 5 Steak with Fresh Veggies: 3 of 5 Lemon Fish: 5 of 5 Free Table Tea: 1 of 5 White Rice: 3 of 5 Brown Rice 5 of 5 Poo Poo Appetizer Platter which includes fried egg rolls and bbq spareribs: AVOIDATALLCOSTS. Sparerib tasted like 3 day old reheated and egg rolls were tasteless. You will go Poo Poo fast if you eat this stuff. Service: Bring a hard helmet here: Throwing hot towels at you, spinning plates, dropping plates in front of you, aggressive waitress unfamiliar with the menu making cryptic notes on a little white pad. I am just happy that no one got hurt. Overall – it was a fun night, most of the food was good, I ate leftover the next day. Not sure that I would return again unless someone invited me.

We had just come out from watching a movie at the Landmark Theaters when my brother-in-law mentioned this nearby Chinese restaurant. He hadn’t tried it before and since we were with him, he suggested we try it. Um, he wanted to do an authentic, family-style, neighborhood Chinese restaurant search around town. We walked in and immediately noticed Zagat Awards for Hop Li Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant was clean, bright and nicely decorated. The restaurant health inspection rating was B, but we felt okay with it. We were greeted by a quiet, friendly and smiling host who seated us with menus. Within a few minutes, our waiter came to provide us with glasses of iced water and cups for hot tea. We placed our orders thinking that we were about to receive lunch plates like a takeout type with rice and an individual serving of the dish we ordered. Our thoughts went that way because menu stated that lunch was served with your choice of hot and sour or egg drop soup and rice. The waiter returned from the kitchen with 3 steaming bowls of hot and sour soup… it was neutral, for our tastebuds, without being overly spicy or vinegary. We finished our bowls of soup by the time our waiter brought us our dishes. The servings were plated on platters which for the price of less than $ 9 per plate was shocking to us! For comparison sake, we ordered salt and pepper pork chops, Kung Pao chicken and beef chow funn with black bean sauce. –The pork chops was fairly lightly battered and fried golden brown. The tender pork was flavored with 5-spices, soy sauce and garlic. There was just enough of sautéed green onions, toasted sesame seeds and chili peppers to kick up the dish. –The Kung Pao chicken was spicier but not sweat-inducing with quite a bit of boneless chicken pieces. Each mouthful we took contained chicken, peanuts, chili pepper and celery. The celery was still a bit crisp and was refreshing to the hot chili pepper. This dish was not drowned in gravy. — Beef chow funn with black bean sauce was on par with what we’re accustomed to. The slices of beef were tender and cut into a one or two bite size. There was a lot of funn, flat-rice noodles, that was moistened by the black bean sauce, beef slices and veggies. The sauce was a nice balance between salted black beans and soy sauce. The serving was so large that we couldn’t finish it. Service was good with«refillable» bowls of steaming rice which I think that added to our fullness. Our waiter stopped by frequently to refill our water and hot tea, too. Hop Li Seafood Restaurant served us authentic family-style Chinese food. It was unpretentious, located in a safe and clean neighborhood and reminded us of our local restaurants.
