Hollywood Smog Check & Test Only Station

Found this place on Unilocal (which offers a 20% discount coupon) and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Cost me about $ 50 after discount.

Yesterday, I came in for a routine smog check and was in and out in what seemed to be no time at all!
Tommy was super friendly and efficient, and even remembered me from past visits. It’s always nice to have a place to keep coming back to and this facility is no different!

Tommy was very fast and efficient … Very knowledgeable about his work. He had our vehicle smoged in ten to fifteen minutes. He also honor the Unilocal check in discount. !!!

As if getting a registration renewal was bad enough, seeing the smog check notice on top of that just seemed to put the icing on the proverbial cake. I haven’t had many smog checks since getting a newer car, so memories of my bringing my older car into shiesty shops in the past came flooding in.
This was of course in the pre-​yelp era (yes that did exist), so when I received my registration in the mail last week, I just popped smog check in the search and found this location nearby. Needless to say my faith in auto shops has been restored. They honored the 20% discount if you check in with no issues. The actual shop is located off hollywood blvd behind a gas station, so you’ll have to turn onto an adjacent street to get to it.
When I arrived there was one person ahead of me, but I was still in and out in about 20 minutes. They were super quick, and even were very helpful answering some non smog related questions I had.
Great fast service. Incredibly friendly and sociable. This is how all auto shops should operate. 5 stars!

Anyone within a 10 mile radius would be crazy to get a smog check from anyone else! The owner Tommy went above and beyond to inform me on what I needed to do to pass my smog. I just replaced my catalytic converter on my car and the dang oxy sensor wasn’t ready and I had to go back 4 times before finally the sensor reset! Service was beyond what I expected and Tommy was first class and patient with me for every one of those 4 visits. I’ll be back in 2 years.

I highly recommend Tommy’s work. I have come to him twice now; both times I left satisfied. Thorough, courteous, honest and reasonable. Five stars!

Excellent service! 5 stars all the way for Hollywood Smog Check because Tommy was sooo quick and nice to deal with. I was in and out within 20 minutes total. I offered to pay cash if he would give me a discount, and he did!
It couldn’t have been easier and more convenient.
Tommy was very honest and informative. He let me know that there still is a charge if you do not pass (like every other smog check place in town). Luckily, I passed! However, for my older model Trooper, he said that one of my numbers was close to not passing this time; thus, he advised that I get a tune-​up before bringing it in next year.
Also, he has a little sitting area set up with magazines and comfortable benches.

I found HTOS2 on Unilocal and I’m so happy I did! For years we’ve been going to a very impersonal place for our smog check. This year I decided to try something new. The personal attention here was above and beyond! Tommy was friendly, helpful and a mensch! Not only did he save me the price of the first test by warning me that my ‘check engine ’ light would prevent a ‘pass’ and that I needed to get the problem fixed before a smog check. He ran a test to tell me exactly what the problem was free of charge. And when I got an estimate from my mechanic’s muffler guy to fix it, Tommy warned me I was getting ripped off and found me a new mechanic who charged me a fraction of the price! When we returned to Tommy our car passed with flying colors! We will never go to any other smog place again!

This is how awesome they are, i called, told them im on the way and they waited for me even though it was 10 min after they closed. Took in my C320 in and out in less than 10 minutes! This is why I bring ALL my vehicles here. 6 stars!

Very fast, very friendly! This is the best smog center i have been too. Normally i hate smog checks and dealing with crooks trying to take your money. I have alot of issues with my car’s check engine light sometimes. The owner Tommy was very honest which made the experience great. There’s a special discount for Unilocal users that you can download the coupon on the site which is useful. Just agree to write a Unilocal review on your experience. I’ll definitely be back with my other car.

First I called to get a rate he said If I paid him CASH it would be $ 45. He didn’t tell me I would still pay if I didn’t pass the smog test. So just like the other bad review posted I had a check engine light on for my oil change. So that made me not pass the smog inspection but he should have known this. Nope instead he decided to take my money and recommended me to talk to the mechanic next to him for a repair consultation. Seems like they help one another out. Should have known it would be a scam when he said lower price if it’s cash.

Very happy with the prompt servicing of my car here. Searched for smog checks in the Hollywood area, and this was the second choice that came up. Called beforehand to see if they were available, and headed on over.
There was only one guy present, and I was the only customer. He was on the phone at the start, but after he finished the call, was friendly and able to get the job done quickly. Since I don’t have the best track record with smog tests (ahem, those of you who reach out to me), I’m happy to say this was a quick and pleasant experience. ‘TH’ was great, and one of those types of people I wish I had to deal with more than once every couple of years.

When it comes to my car, I’m very skeptical and cautious about bringing my car in for ANY kind of service. Especially since I don’t know jack about cars! Since this spot had a solid 5 star rating and wasn’t too far from my place, figured I’d give it a shot.
LOCATION & PARKING
Located near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Wilcox and hidden right behind the Mobil gas station. Once you see the black gated bars, you’ve found it! Small parking lot available for customers.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Tommy was friendly, knowledgable, and quick with service. He explained what he was doing and why exactly my car wasn’t passing in a way I could understand rather than that confusing car talk that was like a foreign language. He also took the extra effort to make small talk as my car was being checked.
1^st Visit — My car initially failed, so Tommy advised me to drive it over 100 miles on the Freeway (cuz apparently high speeds would help my sensors and reset the code?) and bring it back again to be tested. Though he said there’s NO guarantee it’ll work, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. Even though my car failed, I still had to pay around $ 40!

2^nd Visit — Since Tommy had erased/​changed some code on my last visit, it apparently caused my car to Fail in other parts of the Smog Test that had just Passed on my previous visit. WTH?! Again I was told to drive my car at least 15 – 20 more miles on the Freeway and bring it back. Argh.
3^rd Visit — Guess Third time’s a charm, cuz my car FINALLY passed! :D
Despite coming back and forth a few times, I did appreciate the great customer service from Tommy and would definitely recommend this spot to others!
