Harvey’s On Beverly

Harvey’s is a great world all of its own. If you want Fince Contemporary Art, Modern or Deco Décor this is one stop shopping. Therea are monthy art exhibitions and it is a great place to find unique vintage furniture. It is a blend of centures and the best of our culture. It also fun just to drop in to see what is new or old.

All good things must come to an end.
As it has been stated, this gem of a movie prop warehouse is officially shutting down. This rumor has been floating around for well over a year, but this time it’s fo real. Don’t believe me? Then stop by. This place used to be filled to the brim with anything and everything you could image needing to fill the set of a movie no matter the movie’s genre. At this point the owner has sold at least 70% of his stock and isn’t stopping until the place is fully cleaned out. In fact, at this point he is basically giving things away. So long as you have a vehicle to haul it off, then it is yours. Everything left will be generously donated to various charity organizations in need.
I paid this place one last visit to scrounge through what is left in search of hidden and buried treasures. At this point the main bulk of merchandise remaining is furniture, soooooo if you are in the market for furniture, of all sorts and styles, then I suggest you hightail it down to check out what is left. From what I understand, doors close permanently next week. It truly will be a sad day in Hollywood as this 40+ year old business closes for good. I can only wish the owner much success in future endeavors. I know giving up something you spent your entire life building must be hard. Tear.

Gigantic. Overwhelming. Amazing. Sad. Out of control. The largest prop house in the world is on its last legs, having closed down last year due to the recession, and is shuttering for good this Friday (supposedly). More about the shutdown:
It’s good news for the thrifting, junking, movie fanatic, history loving, vintage vultures because their 40 year collection of furniture, props, and knickknacks are on sale to the public. An enormous round table with a globe embedded in the center to gather your cronies in plotting world domination? Check. A cryogenic chamber with a ‘Vanilla Ice’ sign on top? Check. Shitloads of sci-​fi consoles, laboratory props, and other knobby metal odds and ends? Check. On top of the wacky movie stuff, there’s still a lot of vintage furniture left, ranging from tiki style (lots), art deco, mid century modern, and more. On top of that, there’s a room filled with smaller hand props that I didn’t even have time to check out! What the cuss. Having been heavily picked through for nearly a year, the leftovers can be worn or dirty, but they’re absolutely gleaming with history and personality. Much is still left. Take a walk through. If you’re a vintage lover like me, you’ll be speechless and expletive-​filled at the same time.

It’s a shame this N Hollywood landmark is auctioning off everything in its 118,000 warehouse starting July 28, 2009.
