H&R Block

The workers are friendly but I believe they do not know what they’re doing. Me and my bf did our taxes together mine were simple since I only work parttime. My bf on the other hand was really upset He has to pay 200 $ something he has never paid before for his tax forms and is not getting anything back on his taxes I understand why because he has won 1000 $ in a lotto ticket and didn’t deduct anything, but we were told last year he can write down the mileage to and from work and that he could put down how much he spends on his uniform for work, etc. and we got the papers to start writing down the miles and everything so this year we go back and another worker says we can’t. WTH like we got false information or our tax preparer didn’t know what theyre doing. I feel like every year we go they tell something different and my bf has to pay 200 $ to not get back a dime because forms?! really?!! what happened to getting your billions back?!! I feel like they hire people who don’t really know what they’re doing she kept messing up and checking what the issue could be but I feel maybe she did something wrong. We also gave her a coupon code and she said it could not be applied. Like offer your customer a coupon then so you wont have an upset customer or at least try so you can keep your customers. If you do find a good tax preparer stick with them but other then that ours was lazy and incompetent. It was Easter Sunday and she called us Saturday and said come in & they were closed. Tired of H&R block so we will be taking our business elsewhere thank you.

I haven’t had an issue with H&R block until today. I personally don’t have much knowledge about taxes, so I like knowing that my tax preparer is confident and competent.
When I went in today, the woman who helped me (who was very sweet) kept asking a coworker for help. I brought in a 403b summary, and was asked to return with a 1099r. I called my benefits department at work asking if I would receive one, and they told me I didn’t need it because I haven’t received a distribution from it (I’m only 23). The tax preparer didn’t even ask me if I had. So I went back in hoping to complete and file my taxes.
She went through multiple screens, and seemed very confused. The program kept telling her she was missing information and she had to go back to those screens. She kept asking her coworker for help.
When they «finished», the price of the tax preparation was almost 200 dollars… For a 1040-​EZ. I’ve never paid that much, and it seemed strange, so I asked why it was so much. She and a coworker started looking through it, and the coworker kept saying «well, you’re charging for a 1040A. And there’s added forms you didn’t need…» So they started deleting forms and shaking their heads throughout. It was at this point that my level of discomfort reached a peak. I asked to stop the tax preparation as politely as I could.
I don’t understand how HR Block could have incompetent employees preparing taxes. They’re kind of a big deal, and the IRS could really kick your butt around if you make a mistake.
I’m glad I spoke up and said something. Now the issue is going to be finding a place with great tax preparers.

The Tax Professionals are very friendly at this office, all are bi-​lingual Spanish and have extensive tax knowledge with high integrity. I love this office.
