Gamine

Sterling is a miracle worker. I am growing out bald spots from hair extensions, I a shaved side of the head, and really short choppy layers. I had a lot of dead ends on my ultra thin wavy locks. Just want my hair long and all one length again. What I came in with was essentially bangs down to my nose and a mullet with no shape and a ton of dead ends, I told him I don’t want to lose my length.
Not only was Sterling able to give my hair a shape and movement, he got rid of the dead ends and was able to do it without losing length. My hair looks healthy and shiny, and I love it.
Sterling has a client for life and me and he should in you too.

Sterling gives a great haircut — he does a very thorough job, takes the time to listen to what you want, and delivers. Appointments are easy to make and salon has a free parking lot.

Great salon! I’m new to LA and thankfully came across this gem of a salon. Sandy does AMAZING color and cuts! The owner and everyone there is very friendly. They have great hair products for sale also. Highly recommend!

I just got a long bob («lob») cut by Sandy, and she was great. They really understand how to work with the natural texture of your hair and know how to create modern chic looks. A lot of other salons just try to blow out and straighten the crap out of your hair, but gamine can do so much more. They use eco friendly high end products that can really transform your hair without the flat iron… I always end up finding holy grail hair products here.

UPDATE… another great experience with Sandy, this time a cut. So so happy!

I was seen by Sandy and she did an amazing job! My hair was over processed and incredibly dry. I had pieces that were shorter than the rest and it was truly a hair disaster. She took me in as a walk-​in and completely transformed my hair. I does not feel dry anymore and I didn’t have to cut it all off as I had previously anticipated! Great job and very friendly staff!

Where do I begin?! LYNNAE IS AMAZING! I’m pretty particular when it comes to getting my hair cut. First of all I was blessed with a head full of thick curly hair and cowlicks, oh the cowlicks. Therefore I need someone who knows what they are doing… And this gal has got it down! Not only is she a super sweetheart. SHE ACTUALLY LISTENS! I told her I usually wear my hair curly and sometimes straighten my bangs. She asked what I’d like and don’t like about my current state of hair (great question!) then told me how she would give me what I desired and keep my curls from getting too heavy or frizzy. She also made sure to feel through my hair so she understood it and understood my concerns…
The cut. Ahh so detailed! My hair needs that. Too often in the past I’ve had people cut my hair where it would frizz or there was no difference afterwards. SHE GETS CURLY HAIR! Woo! After she cut my hair she also detailed my bangs so they would sit nice NO MATTER WHAT… Which for real. Curly or straight they lay perfectly! What a trip! I will definitely be back to see her smiling face and to keep my curly locks gorgeous!

LYNNAE is great! She did an awesome job with my long bob! Totally attentive, precise, and very professional. She obviously takes a lot of pride in her work and has super hair skills. I’ll be going back for sure.

Had my hair cut by a lovely woman called «Lynnae.» The staff here was incredibly friendly and attentive. I was welcomed into the salon and immediately offered water or coffee (I chose the later which was freshly brewed just for me and amazing).
I had just moved to the area from Chicago and was dreading having to find a new stylist. Enter Lynnae: She was funny, warm, extremely talented, and just generally awesome. I am not particularly fussy or fashionable, so I just said, «Do whatever you want.» She spent about an hour doing an all-​scissor cut that seemed to fly by. I was incredibly happy to find her, and I will be back!

Another great experience at Gamine. I don’t go often enough, but when I do it’s always a pleasure. I would like to recommend SANDY for doing a great job on my hair all around! She did a lovely job on the color, probably the best results I’ve ever had. My hair is fine and difficult to deal with. I’m rarely happy with color results and this time it was fabulous! The cut and color look great days after as well. I think Sandy is very knowledgeable and has a very artistic touch. She can handle and make any hair of head look fabulous!

Just wanted to say thank you to SANDY for being so sweet and helpful and squeezing me in last minute to fix a bad haircut! I paid $ 80 for a basic trim and face layers which turned out looking like a $ 12 cut at Fantastic Sams. I didn’t realize how horrible the cut was until I straightened it the next day, so I called Gamine and their friendly staff was able to squeeze me in right away. I was in and out with a cleaner cut that I was more than happy with, and they didn’t even charge me to get it fixed! But I had to tip Sandy for being so great :) The salon is super cute and so is the staff, and I will definitely be back

Julie is the consummate stylist not to mention all around fabulous human being. She has given me two amazing cuts. What is so great about her is she takes her time, she cares about her work and is sweet and funny as well. She is a little pricier but worth it! I am thrilled to have found Julie and Gamine salon!

I’m writing a review after only one visit. Why? First, the receptionist was great. I am newly arrived in LA and my schedule is very hectic right now. Chance got me scheduled with Sterling, whom I had requested, even though I couldn’t guarantee I’d make it. When I called to confirm 2 hours prior to the appt. my appt. was still waiting for me! I’m not just giving a star for schedding me w/​o a guarantee that I’d make it, but another to Chance, the receptionist for being so friendly about it. I wasn’t made to feel like Famine was doing me a favor, which they totally were. Also, I was offered water, tea, beer, etc. when I arrived.
Second, I have a very particular haircut, a new-​wavy thing, which surprisingly can challenge a lot of stylists. Maybe it’s because of my thick, gorgeous hair, ;), maybe it’s because a lot of stylists (and I’ve payed for the top tier many times without results) just can’t handle new ideas. Sterling rocked my cut!
Third, Sterling really took the time to know my hair ideas since it was the first time I sat in his chair. It was the end of the day, but instead of being tired and rushing, he used his free time to work on me. 1.5 hours later he had recovered a cut that had been hacked into an indescribable mop over the last half year. I expect the next time I see him he’ll be able to rock it.
I can’t speak to the other stylists’ abilities, but while I was there I did notice a woman arrive with bland med.-length hair, and when I was leaving her stylist had already transformed her hair and even her face.
Guys! I’ve seen the cuts coming out of Sweeney’s and Rudy’s, and while they’re good cuts, you can almost tell that they have a limited repertoire and a definite style. Check out Gamine and get a cut that just looks like you.

At 22 years old, I’d never had a salon to call home. I’d normally wake up deciding I needed a change, and head to the first salon with an opening (and a decent Unilocal review of course). Not anymore. Since landing with Poppy (for color) and Preston (for cuts), I wouldn’t DREAM of going anywhere else. Every 3 – 4 weeks, I get giddy and excited for my visit. Together, they’ve transformed my luck-​laster, damaged, over-​processed hair into a soft, beautiful, stylish look.
When I first walked in, my long, naturally baby-​blonde hair was hidden under 5 years of boxed black hair dye. Now, 6 months later, I have soft, manageable, beautiful locks. Not to mention, Preston is the first person to cut my hair short (from middle of the back, to above the shoulders) and have me walk away happy, LOVING IT.
Similar to finding ‘your’ nail salon, or ‘your mascara’, having a place where you go regularly enough to know everyone’s name and folks who really know your hair — feels so very «I’m an adult woman in LA». and for that, I thank GAMINE.
The service is great, the people are awesome… Go there, you won’t be disappointed.

Once upon a time, I came into Gamine Salon as a vulnerable girl with broken dreams and a sawed-​off aline to match. I decided it was time for a major change. I cannot tell you how remarkable of a transformation that has taken place since visiting Sterling. What an excellent sculptor, who jives with the ebb and flow of my thick wavy and fried out hair. He gave me an effortlessly cool pixie which attracts daily compliments; some of the best being compared to Edie Sedgwick and Jean Seberg of the French New Wave film Breathless. I cannot express enough how thankful I am to have found this match of waking glamor at this segment in my life. Let me also mention that Preston is famously talented alongside the crew of the Salon being super friendly and chill, plus they play awesome music, yay!
Thank you for doing for me what I could not do for myself Sterling of Gamine.

I read a lot of really good reviews on Unilocal for this place and decided to give it a try.
I opted for Sid the new senior artist. I told him I wanted more layers for my hair and still want the long length. He cut off about 2 – 3 inches on the bottom and now it’s very straight, no layers and he didn’t even touch the front hairs so I still have split ends towards the front.
After he cut my hair, he spinned my chair around so I didn’t get to look in the mirror and blew dry my hair. I thought he wanted it a bit dry before proceeding with the cut. He then started curling my hair and at the end I didn’t really get to see what my cut look like until I went home and washed it all out.
Very unhappy with my cut
The service is great, however. They are very friendly salon and will give you that boutique salon feel.

I LOVE AMELIA!
After searching for two years, I finally found Amelia and have now been going there for a year. She is s a layer master… her haircuts always have great movement and they grow out well. I get lots of compliments on my hair.
The whole salon is very nice – great customer service.

This is my neighborhood salon but, even so, I unfortunately can’t recommend Gamine.
After cutting my hair radically short for a film, I patiently grew it out so I could try a new style – something more flirty. I did my Unilocal research, called Gamine and sacrificed sleeping in on a Friday morning so I could get in with Amelia right when they opened.
I came to Amelia with 2 detailed photos of side-​swept bangs.
This is bang style 101 – the hairstyle girls start experimenting with in high school. For whatever reason, despite the pictures and the clear request for «side-​swept bangs,» Amelia couldn’t come through.
I came in hoping for the classic Reese Witherspoon look but left looking like Lisbeth Salander from Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Grant it, I can pull off the gothic doll bang look – but after seeing my cut, another stylist agreed that Amelia did not give me what I requested which is the result of this 1 star review.
Cleanliness is also below par. It’s the top of the morning at 9am, what’s your excuse for having dusty services with last night’s hair clippings?
