Fuji School

Thank you Noriko and Noa sensei… you guys are awesome. I love the view in the classroom. The method and technique they use on teaching is incredible… I pick up things really quick. I was able to introduce myself and have a basic conversation in 2 weeks. Highly recommended.

I have been a student of Fuji School for over 2 years. I have taken private lessons to prepare for the JLPT (both in person on on-​line) as well as group classes.
Ayumi-​sensei and the entire staff at Fuji School are so friendly and genuinely enthusiastic about teaching Japanese. It makes the learning process so much more enjoyable –which is especially important for someone like me who is trying to learn Japanese while juggling work, family and personal commitments.

I have been going to Fuji School less then a year, but I plan to be a student for many semesters to come! The teachers (especially Noriko-​sensei) are amazing and are very patient with beginners. You learn a lot in 8 weeks and even learn to read Hiragana and Katakana.
If you are looking to learn Japanese, this would be the best place to learn :)

I have been a student a Fuji School for almost two years, and I plan to be a student for many semesters to come! I initially came to Fuji School to learn Japanese about six months in advance of my first trip to Japan so I wouldn’t be [ とても外人] the second I landed in Tokyo. I came with a very, very basic knowledge of Japanese from elementary school classes — but besides general greetings and pronunciation, I was a total newbie. I hadn’t taken language classes since I used high school Spanish as a way to get an easy A. (I’m fluent! Hah.) I was a bit skeptical that I would learn a new language, especially as I’m pushing 30. However, Fuji School’s amazing (and super funny) teachers gave me the confidence to effectively navigate Tokyo by myself, make new Japanese friends, and travel safely. After I returned from that trip invigorated by my language skills, I signed up for more lessons at Fuji.
Lessons are fairly structured and follow the same format, lesson after lesson. The school uses the Minna No Nihongo textbooks, which really are the best Japanese language textbooks on the market. You are given a real written test, with listening sections, at the end of each semester — just like high school! Classes tend to have anywhere from 4 – 8 students ranging in ages from young students to middle aged learners. Homework is up to you to complete, but you’d be silly if you didn’t do it! The homework is actually the most helpful portion of the classes, in my opinion. It forces you to remember and recall everything you learned in class, and is a great way to practice writing hirigana and katakana.
I went back to Japan this year to test my skills again, and I was even shocked by my own improvement. I could ask for (and understand!) directions! I could recognize basic kanji! I could order at restaurants! I had an entire conversation about feminism with an all-​female band! I translated while my boyfriend and a guy who spoke no English geeked out on motorcycles! I wasn’t perfect, but the second trip showed me how far I had come in less than a year. Now, I’m making weird goals like, «Passing N4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency test» and «reading that Sailor Moon manga I bought in Tokyo without using my translation apps» — and it’s all thanks to the wonderful team at Fuji School!

Last week, I hit the 3 year mark at Fuji School. I started coming here for business purposes and it has helped my career 1 000 000%. I started from zero Japanese and now I can communicate more effectively with my work colleagues and my customers abroad that have very little or poor English skills. I highly recommend Fuji School to anyone working with Japanese customers or colleagues.
Best of all, the classes are super fun and I always look forwarded to going to my weekly lessons!

I have been taking private lessons. Haruna-​Sensei is a great teacher! Class is always fun, lessons are tailored to my needs. I took Japanese at my college. My professor is a good teacher, but her teaching style is hard for me to follow.

Teachers are enthusiastic and supportive. Scheduling is flexible, and the learning atmosphere is inviting.

The staff at Fuji School is very accommodating, helpful, and kind. Class sizes are small, so you get the attention you need as a student. Even though it is only an 70 minutes a week, I feel as if I’ve learned a lot! Physically going to a class once a week motivates me to study more than I would if I was just learning on my own.

I have been going to Fuji for a year and a half and passed the JLPT N5 after a year of school. I like the small classroom environment and enthusiastic teachers, it allows for lots of interaction and one-​on-​one attention. Definitely better than a large college-​type classroom where you’re one-​in-​a-​million. They offer the vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills along with exposing you to the Japanese culture.

This place is great. They have small classes which allows the teachers to help and focus on each student. Everyone here is very helpful and nice, including the students, who I’ve texted for questions and sometimes random facts. You will not only learn new vocabulary every lesson, but also grammar and sentence structures in order to use those words correctly. I recommend Fuji School rather you are starting out or an advanced student, there is a group level for you and it’ll be challanging and fun.

My daughter is taking Japanese language class here to increase her spoken language skills. The teachers are very caring and my normally shy daughter speaks up… that’s saying something!

This is my favorite of three Japanese language programs I have studied at in Los Angeles. If you have the money, you can buy very personalized teaching. The group classes are also small. Ayumi has tireless energy and enthusiasm for teaching and is a delight.

My son is just learning Japanese and he is so happy with the one-​on-​one attention the school provides. The teachers and administration are very attentive and focus on reviewing any prior learned material in a short perod of time prior to proceeding with the new lesson and new material. As with anything, repetition is extremely important.
He learns so much in every single lesson one-​on-​one, consisting of 70 minutes (for a mere $ 45). He also is given a short homework assignment for the next lesson. By the way, the group lessons coming up in a few months are less expensive, but I’m sure just as effective.
This Saturday is my son’s first «test» is on Saturday. He’s very excited (seriously — it’s kind of weird). He really loves the language and his teachers.
Thank you Fuji School. Had this been a bad experience for him, he would have walked away and never bothered to learn the language!

This is a great Japanese language school in the heart of Little Tokyo.
Ever since visiting Japan in late 2014, I’ve wanted to learn Japanese. The teachers are friendly and have a great teaching method.
Learn Japanese the right way: A small and intimate language school like Fuji School, Youtube videos, listening to audio while driving (streaming podcasts or downloaded Youtube videos), and Meetups!
Persistance, persistance, persistance!

I’ve been dragging my feet to properly learn Japanese, so I finally took the plunge and tried this school out. I’m glad I did! The teachers are very friendly, knowledgable, and lessons are welcoming for someone long out of school.
I highly recommend going to a trial class to see if this place is right for you.

Everyone at Fuji School is super cool and helpful! They even start you off reading hiragana and katakana. Something I didn’t think was humanly possible!
I’ve only been going for a couple months and I can sorta read japanese and I’m starting to understand it more and more. I took a class at Glendale Community years ago, and that was fine, but once it was over it was over. Fuji School lets you continue your studies, all the way to advance levels. So now I will finally be the master of Japanese language… my dream come true. Yay!
I can’t recommend them enough. I find it impossible to learn from books or the internet or whatever. You gotta go to school! FUJI SCHOOL!!!

Fuji school is amazing! After 2 years in high school I didn’t learn much. But fuji school has taught me a ton in just 8 weeks!
The teachers are kind and patient and the material is easy to follow. I would highly recommend it to both beginners and those with some Japanese knowledge already.
I am going to continue to attend until I can pass the N1 JLPT!

I started taking classes in June so I can learn to speak with my future in laws and I’m glad that I choose to come here to learn. So far I have been taking the individual class due to my crazy work schedule and I am thankful that they can be flexible for that. I also like that they will take it slow in areas where I’m not able to grasp as quickly. I strongly recommend that you give them a try if you are interested in learning Japanese.

I came to LA last year with my sister, I was looking for a place to study Japanese and I found Fuji School, I returned to my country but I kept in touch with the staff via email, they were always very helpful and insightful about their curriculum. After a year I finally came back to LA and start studying at this awesome place. To my surprise I found myself learning new stuff from the very first class (I took one year of Japanese at my country).
The method used in Fuji School is definitely a very helpful one, they always give you the necessary stuff you need to practice at home and to further develop your skills in Japanese. Every class we have new content without leaving what we already know behind. Coming to Fuji School is not like going to your usual language school, the teachers are always very nice and open to suggestions or needs of any student.
If there is an activity around, the teachers will let you know and they will invite you to join extra activities in the area that are always very interesting and funny and most of the time they might be part of the Japanese Culture in Little Tokyo, is like being part of a big, yet little family!

The Fuji School has finally allowed me to realize my dream of learning Japanese. For years I avoided studying this language for fear that I would never make any inroads. Thanks to the excellent didactics and outstanding sensees at this school, I feel like I have a solid foundation after a brief 8 weeks and can accomplish simple things like reading signs and holding a basic conversation (not to mention write in hiragana and katakana!).
The most valuable asset of the Fuji School is not its well-​organized curriculum, great location near the Little Tokyo plaza, or free matcha during class, but rather its amazing staff and teachers!
