Fresh Pressed Screen Shops

There hasn’t been a review written in a year so I guess mine will serve as an update. I called this place twice, emailed them and wrote them a message through their website and I heard nothing back. I went to the address provided and fund that they are no longer there. The woman who now occupies the space said they’d moved to the «brewery» downtown. Either this place no longer exists or they don’t know how to run a business. Don’t waste your time. They seem very scattered and disorganized. Or maybe they just don’t care.

Fresh Pressed made my shirt with 24 hours. Last minute, I made the decision to get a quote printed on a shirt in memory of a friend who had passed 2 days before the memorial. The owner Johnathan and his co-​worker at Fresh Pressed took such great care of me and the design of my shirt. I just told them the wording, and they did the rest. It came out better than I had envisioned.
I have never seen a business run this amazing before. I was completely astonished that they jumped through hoops to make a special shirt for me in 24 hours so I can wear it to my friend’s funeral. I will DEFINITELY come back to Fresh Pressed for my future shirt printing. The fabulous customer service and shirt they made for me has turned this girl into a loyal customer.

I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to review Fresh Pressed. About 3 years ago, I decided to have my daughter’s 6^th birthday party here. We came with the design, Jonathan guided me along the way with ideas that would make it fun for 6 year old kids. Each kid got to pull their own screen, then color in the t-​shirt, and take home an amazing party favor. From that moment on, I was hooked! The Fresh Pressed team has come to my daughter’s school for the past 2 years to do school t-​shirts on site at our annual Spring fair — ALWAYS the most popular booth, with parents buying multiple tees because the options are so much more creative than your average clip art school t-​shirt. Always accommodating, and all around lovely. Every time I stop in, I always walk out inspired. Perfect for a one-​of-​a kind gift, party favors — or a party, period! Can’t wait to figure out what I can do with them next!

I had less than 48 hours to have a custom t-​shirt made for my boyfriend’s Law School graduation. I panicked thinking that it would be impossible to find a screen shop in my neighborhood that could cater to my order. LUCKILY, a friend suggested Fresh Pressed. Some of the best service I’ve had in a long time. I e-​mailed the address available on their website with the quotes I wanted, t-​shirt color, size, etc. Within the hour I heard back from Jonathan, who, from there on out walked me through my order until I was pleased with the product in hand.
I applaud Jonathan for the way he runs this business. He made sure I had some design options and sent me a photo proof for approval before printing. I got exactly what I wanted and picked up the t-​shirt on my way to the graduation! They even print the quote on the bag.

We had about a dozen tee-​shirts made for my daughter’s 10^th birthday. About 3 days before my daughter’s party I came up with the idea of having a «camp» theme to her party and I thought it would be great to get tee-​shirts printed up with the name of the camp on it. I called Fresh Pressed and spoke with the owner Jonathan about the idea. He came up with an amazing design for the tee-​shirts and got the exact color we wanted ordered and had it all printed within about 2 days. He saved the day and the tee-​shirts really set the tone for the party. I’m definitely a big fan of the shop and would recommend them to anyone.

Every time I need to wow someone with a «super terrific oh my goodness that is so awesome» type of gift I head over to Fresh Pressed. They are so diverse when it comes to taking your idea to the next level. LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!

This place is fantastic. First off, unlike many printing shops, their design aesthetic is right on, and so not only are the shirts customized, but they look better than most commercially printed t-​shirts. Second, the service is AMAZING. Two days before my new husband and I left for our honeymoon in Italy, we thought «Wouldn’t it be great if we had t-​shirts that said ‘just married’ in Italian»? One stop into Fresh Pressed and we had an adorable design suggestion from them and they could get it done the next day. We even ran into a problem when we were prevented by an emergency from picking up the shirts while the shop was still open, and I was so upset we wouldn’t be able to take them after all. Jonathan graciously agreed to come open the shop on his day off so I could grab the t-​shirts on our way to the airport and could not have been cooler to work with. I will definitely be back with more projects!

I was excited to investigate this place based on a recent article in LA Magazine. When I arrived there was a «back in 5 minutes» sign on the door. So I waited and checked out the other businesses nearby.
Eventually, I saw a girl unlocking the door.
ME: Hi !
GIRL: (carrying her lunch and a soda) — no response.
ME: I just saw a new restaurant going in next door. Do you know what it’s going to be ?
GIRL: I don’t know.
As we walk inside.. .
ME: Wow, what a cool shop, how does it work ?
GIRL: We do screen printing.
ME: Oh, I thought it was more than that, like a DIY sort of place.
GIRL: We can make a screen for you.
ME: Great, I already have my designs. How long does it take ?
GIRL: it depends (goes back to eating her sandwich).
ME: I’m apologize, am I bothering you ?
GIRL: I’m just trying to eat my lunch.
ME: Ok, can I get a business card ?
GIRL: We ran out of business cards.
All of this was delivered without a smile, rarely a look in my direction, and never a hint of enthusiasm.
Then finally,
ME: Well maybe I should come back when someone else is working.
GIRL: I work here every day.
This place is a GREAT concept, and I have many clients who would be regular customers, if I thought anyone cared about earning our business.
I even left my name and number for Jonathan, (the owner) to call me and I still have not heard from him.

My first and only experience with FreshPressed was great, but not phenomenal. Being a graphic designer, I arrived with my design in the appropriate digital formats on the thumb drive. I was helped by the owner, who worked with me to quickly and efficiently get my template logged into their system. He was polite, courteous to an ‘off the street’ newcomer, and made me feel very confident about having chosen the right place to print my single shirt. The price was slightly higher than one might expect from a «no minimums» internet company, but I was fine with this; sometimes you have to get a high-​quality product and professional service — especially in low quantity. Having handed off my order on a Saturday afternoon, I was told that it would be ready on Friday. In fact, the owner/​manager implied that it might be ready earlier and they’d give me a call if it was done ahead of schedule. When I called on Thursday afternoon for a status check, a female worker grunted at me, complaining that it wasn’t done yet because they were behind on a lot of orders. Having worked in printing production facilities myself, I was sympathetic, but nonetheless curious about when my order might be ready on Friday. I was asked, «Well, when do you need it by?» It would have been difficult for me to have come at the end of the day, so I asked «Is it possible to have it around noon?» There was a hesitation on the other end of the phone, and then it was determined that my order could (and would) be ready for pick-​up at 1:30p. When I arrived to pick it up, things were running a few minutes late. I was sympathetic and polite. But, given that I had paid a considerable amount of money for a small single-​color one-​shirt order, and had waited a full six days, I felt that they had obviously waited until the last minute. (To be fair, if they hadn’t gotten to my order for another two hours, it still would have been ready by closing time. But, I don’t think it’s fair to assume that the customer is automatically going to drop by at the end of the day to pick up his order — esp when a manager had implied that the shop had a light workload for the week.)
So, will I use FreshPressed again when I want to make a custom shirt? Absolutely! Their production was first-​rate and they have a great «we can do anything» attitude that caters to fine artists and graphic designers. But, for my next order, I’ll try to to allow a week or more for production time.

Fresh Pressed is so much more than a T-​shirt shop. Initially, I had wanted to make T-​Shirts for a friend’s birthday, but while working with Jonathan Sample (design guru), we realized what we wanted just wasn’t going to work. Their design folks took over and we wound up with limited-​edition prints on canvas (most of which are now being framed). The birthday boy was blown away as this gift was better than anything bought in a box (or off the rack).

Last spring I wanted to do something special for my family, and it hit me — customized t-​shirts! Years ago my dad was cleaning out his house and came across an old shirt that said «Rothe Homestead Farm». My grandfather owned a farm and had those shirts made for our family decades ago, and to my knowledge, my father had the only one still in existence. After a little bit of a tug of war between my sister and me, I got to keep the shirt. Since then I’ve looked for a place where I could duplicate it, and finally I found Fresh Pressed. The very helpful staff (ask for Meara!) assisted me in scanning the original shirt, outputting a screen with the logo, and printing the design on new shirts — we started with t-​shirts, but have since returned for sweatshirts. And in case you’re wondering, shirts are not the limit…
Fresh Pressed is perfect, and I can assure you that the possibilities are endless. If you’ve ever wanted to share your original design, Fresh Pressed is your best bet in LA. Trust me, they make it easy.

On early Halloween evening I was an hour outside of LA and realized I might have just enough time to go out for Halloween if I could get a costume in time. I had wanted to go as a specific character but knew I needed the right T-​shirt or no one would know who I was supposed to be. While on the road I called Fresh Pressed and the girl on the line was so helpful. She called up the proper lettering on the internet, went over with me the sizes, colors, shapes, etc., let me come up with a funny line to go below the logo etc. Even better they were open until 7 so I had plenty of time to get there. Well, I hit a major Halloween traffic jam and didn’t get there til 7:20 and bless their hearts they stayed open late for me and the t-​shirt looked fantastic, it had a great athletic fit unlike most t shirt shop specials so I’ve already worn it twice after Halloween. I couldn’t be happier and everyone there was so sweet and helpful. They even refused a $ 20 tip I offered for staying late. Go there.

Ok, I can’t say much about the actual service, but the décor of this place is so damn cute! Even their fliers are well-​designed. Just had a good asthetic experience while stopping by to say hi to a friend.

What a concept! What a party!
Fresh Pressed is an incredible addition to the little stretch of Hollywood Blvd just east of Vermont, where Wacko, American Apparel and Cobras & Matadors reside. This weekend we celebrated my friend’s birthday with a private custom T-​shirt making party at Fresh Pressed. This little screen printing shop lets regular folks have a go at designing their very own ironic T-​shirts. You know, T-​shirts like the Indian Chief with the headline ‘I have Reservations’ or the ‘Pedro for President’. They supply the entire set up, the instruction, the ink, the pressing machines, and dryers for instant gratification so you can take your creation home with you that very same day. You supply the design. They have a great selection of American Apparel T-​shirts to choose from, along with cool tote bags options. The owner Jonathon and his staff are super helpful and guide you through the process. For this particular party we sent in our designs so they had time to make the screens. You can also design on-​site. The coolest part… If you have a private party it’s BYOB baby! It’s a really great creative environment. I had an absolute blast and now have my very own custom messenger bag. I can’t wait to go back and create something else!

T-​shirts are the glue that hold our society together — and Fresh Pressed totally gets it.
This amazing little screen ship INSPIRES, EMPOWERS, and IMPRINTS your favorite creations onto tees, ties, undies, wood… pretty much any substance that can stand a cool design (speak with owner and LA native Jonathan or any of the staff beforehand before you start bringing anything too crazy!). The staff is imminently helpful and knowledgeable and artistic in their own rite. The space is mod, chill, and impeccably designed. In addition to welcoming walk-​ins, Fresh Pressed also does private par-​tees (pun intended) offsite events, and a whole myriad of cool, creative stuff.
