History

Established in 1949.

Fred’s Bakery has been in business for the last 66 years. Fred’s, the original owner who had fled Germany after WW II, arrived at Los Angeles and opened a European style bakery for the Beverlywood, Beverly Hills, and West side LA neighborhoods. In addition to being a neighborhood bakery he supplied his unique rye, challah, and pumpernickels breads to many known restaurants and delis, among them Langers’ and Johnnies’ Pastrami (Still customers).

Fred also made pastries, cookies, and cakes using his European recipes.

The family enterprise has continued with his children after his passing for another 15 years until they sold it.

In the beginning of 2015 new owners came in and revived Fred’s old tradition of baking by hiring his more than 35 years bakers assistants. Additionally, the new owners offer new types of bread like multi grain, ancient spelt, and artisan breads. Fred’s bakery also cater to offices and parties and special occasions, like Birthday, Bar Mitzvah, and Wedding cakes!
