There are so many good eats options in this town that sometimes I find myself paralyzed by indecision. We are, after all, breaching that Orange Curtain to fight LA traffic/​parking — it’d better be for a good cause!
We met up with brother and his gal pal on Saturday evening (reservations were not hard to get). Parking was interesting… it’s a one-​way alley, costs $ 5 and isn’t really valet because the dude just removes a cone, you park and keep your keys. That was actually a plus in my eyes because I prefer to do make up in the car. That being said, there is plenty of street parking if you’re willing to walk a little. (Hubby was not.)
They have a bar but it doesn’t appear to be one of those «wait here for your table» situations. So we sat on one of their benches waiting for our designated table to free up. (It did so pretty quickly.)
We started off with a round of drinks. Their cocktail list is bourbon heavy so I started off with a vodka drink (Griffith). It was light and citrusy but not sweet at all. Can’t say I was a huge fan but I could dig it. Brother’s gal pal got a bourbon drink with thyme in it. It was good. I decided to give in to the bourbon pressure and got the Kentucky Buck as my next drink. It was really good! Strawberries + bourbon = awesome!
Most of the food was good. You really can’t go wrong with a meat and cheese board. Recommend the chorizo (YUM) which they slice really thinly so you’re not working your jaw too much. The all-​around favorite of the night, however, was the truffled white bean spread. It came in a little jar redolent with truffle oil. Amah-​zing.
We skipped the salads and flatbreads and moved directly into the entrees. Ceviche (average, very citrusy, a little underseasoned)
Mushroom w/​Egg (good but we’ve had it better elsewhere. Mushroom was made a little too watery and the egg got lost when we stirred it in.)
Soft Shell Crab Sandwich (Delicious.the seaweed salad was a nice touch but a little tough to bite through easily.)
Beef Tartare (I was a big fan of this one. Came with actual dijon mustard ice cream which I’d like to top everything with. Brother didn’t like the icy beef but that just meant more for the rest of us!)
Service was good — we had to ask for water refills a few times until they finally gave us a bottle of our own. But everyone was very nice, professional and informative. Great experience!

Parking is limited so be ready for that.

Everything came out pretty quickly
All the food was so tasty and delicious
The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the mashed potatoes with the bbq sandwich. They were tasteless.
Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed and trendy. I would come back for sure.

Eat Drink Americano is a hip joint hidden in the Arts District of LA, only a couple blocks away from The Pie Hole, and offers a great pastrami sandwich for lunch.
I came here on a weekday for lunch so it wasn’t packed with people. Parking is awful, I mean it’s LA… I luckily found metered parking a few blocks down. The service was decent; you order at the counter, find a seat, and the food is brought out to you.
The New York Style Pastrami sandwich was my order. YUM. It’s a baguette with pastrami, arugula, tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, and their aioli sauce. Everything was fresh and I enjoyed the flavor profile. The baguette was tasty but on the harder side, it might have even cut the roof of my mouth towards the end of the sandwich.
All in all, I was thoroughly impressed with the food here and enjoyed their hipster laid-​back ambiance. I would definitely recommend this place for their pastrami sandwich for lunch! I’m interested in their dinner menu, so I’ll be back for that!

Comiendo delicioso!!!, platillos muy ricos y de mucha calidad, eso sí, si tienes mucha hambre tendrás que pedir 2 o 3 cosas del menú, ya que son porciones muy pequeñas, pero vale la pena!

Ordered through grubhub, food was made really quickly and was absolutely delicious.
I got new york pastrami baguette — the greens were fresh, the bread was soft, the meat was flavorful, and the basil aioli was on point.
Vegetarian wife (lots of veggie options) got Garden Fresh flatbread, which she said was really well made and tasty. Vegan soup was also really good even for a meat eater like myself.
Decent portion sizes.
Definitely will be back and especially to dine in as the interior looked cozy and inviting.

Cute little gastro pub once you can get over its location. I seriously thought we were driving through the GHETTO to get here… but then again waze can do that every now and then. There’s valet parking for five dollars.
Food is actually pretty darn delicious! We started with the cherry tomato burrata which was fantastic! Perfect balance of cheese and tomatoes with perfectly toasted bread. I loved the pilgrim, it’s a great way to be reminded of thanksgiving outside of the holiday. The turkey is super tender and the proportions of the sauce and stuffing is perfecto. Good drinks and great service. Super tiny water cups but they leave a bottle for self service. The sandwiches were a hit at the table, especially the soft shell crab one. Check in on Unilocal and get free desert! We indulged in the pull me up. Ladyfingers soaked in amaretto??? Yes please!!! The whole thing ends up tasting like a tiramisu with a nice little kick ;).

Great spot, cool vibe, good food.
I like the laid back atmosphere in this loading dock environment.
Glad we ate and got out before music started, as I can imagine it would be loud and unbearable to try to eat with.

I absolutely love this place!!! The atmosphere is very chill and upbeat. Everything I’ve ordered food wise taste great. As far as dinks go, they don’t have that many choices of beer. I always get an old fashion and every time I’ve ordered it’s perfection. The people that work here are very friendly and actually take the time to talk to you regarding their menu or answer any questions you may have.
*Monday nights they have a live band and happy hour from 8:30p.m.-11:30p.m.

The menu is small, but the sandwiches are sooo good. I’ve had the turkey sandwich and the Pastrami sandwich too! Pastrami was my absolute favorite. I also ordered the mushroom soup and I fell in love. I would go more often if they kept it open on the weekends. On Saturdays they close at around 1pm and Sunday it is closed all day.
I work during the week I have no time to go, so on the weekend is when most people are out and about. Other than that, everything was great. From sandwiches to the lemonade was amazing.
If you’re a small eater, I would recommend splitting a sandwich.

We came here on the recommendation of our friend who had stumblef on this place by accident. Providence smiled upon us all. The menu features a stunning array of amazing sandwiches on freshly prepared baguettes, flatbread with spinach pesto and mushrooms and melted provolone, and more. … Full bar and great craft beers on tap. Will be a frequent stop for this foodie!

I like this place! It’s really chill and just a great place to grab lunch. Cutely decorated too with plenty of seating. For lunch, you just order at the counter and they bring your food to you whereas for dinner, it’s waiter service. Their lunch menu has a variety of sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads, but I think most of it is offered for dinner too, just slightly more expensive.
I ordered the pastrami sandwich ($ 9.95) and added a bowl of soup ($ 2.95). The sandwich was awesome. Loved the fresh, crusty bread and everything in the baguette was delicious as well. I would definitely come back for this sandwich or to try some of their other ones. However, the soup was so disappointing. They had 2 options and I went with the potato leek, but my soup had almost no potato. It was also not seasoned very well, tasting quite watered-​down in my opinion. Next time, I’ll just stick with the sandwich.
They have 1 hour parking spots in front, but there’s also street parking in the area if an hour isn’t enough. Located in the Arts District in Downtown.

We attended an LAWine event here, which was amazing in and of itself (but a totally different Unilocal review), and ended up staying for dinner.
The menu had some interesting offerings such as steak tartar with mustard ice cream, truffle white bean spread, pork cheek with polenta, sous vide egg with mushrooms. We were tipsy from wine tasting so we felt bold enough to order the steak tartar, which was… interesting. The dish was refreshing and light-​like steak sushi with freezing cold mustard ice cream. Without going into excessive detail, I can sum up the food here as fun and creative with good flavors. I love that many of the menu items, even the entrées, are small portions, which is great for ordering a few to share and experience together.
This place is in the Arts District of LA, so you can expect the hipster crowd. Expect to see fashionable men and women-​lots of tight skinny jeans (on MEN). I digress! So yes, ambience… This place has a great bar, live music and drink specials on Mondays, and a very cool, chic feel to it. It is also super dark at night with mostly only tiny candles on each table illuminating the space; we had to use our cell phones to read the menu.
As with most of the restaurants and bars in the area, Eat, Drink Americano does not disappoint. But with so many great places around, I find that I will likely check out other places rather than revisiting this restaurant/​bar.

Trying to get last minute rezzies for a party of 10 for your OWN BIRTHDAY sucks but I was lucky enough to get one down at Eat Drink Americano. They require a credit card to hold just fyi.
It has the industrial chic vibe going on which is pretty much the trend these days. Intimate ambiance with pretty lights, etc. Plenty of street parking around which was good. The hostess and server deserves a thumbs up. They have a policy with splitting the bill, but they weren’t snooty about it and they were very patient and accommodating. Great service.
As for drinks and food, my group was impressed. For me, the stand out dishes were definitely the braised short rib, oxtail sliders, and arugula +beet salad. I will be back!

I was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. It isn’t a large space but it is cozy and gives off a hipster vibe. They have an open bar area where they make delicious cocktails. Parking on the other hand is tricky. They are supposed to offer valley in their alleyway but there was no valet attendant to be found when I went. There are a few street parking spots as well but you know how those go in DTLA…
FOOD:
This is a gastropub so they offer plenty of bar food. Portions are small here so it good to share a few plates with a group of people. Among a party of three, we got an order of
— charcuterie board
— soft shell crab sandwich
— short rib with mashed potatoes
— beef tartare with a mustard ice cream
We got a choice of three with the charcuterie board, so we got the burrata, a creamy kind of cheese (forgot the name), and a salami. It came with olives, roasted tomatoes, and bread. Not the best board I have been but the cheeses were nice and creamy. I was a huge fan of their olives which were tangy and still crunchy. Overall, I thought the presentation of the board was great and a nice started for the entire table.
My favorite dishes were the soft shell crab sandwich and the short rib with mashed potatoes. They were kind enough to precut the sandwiches into three pieces for us which made it easier to share. It came on an English muffin with a seaweed salad which was a pleasant surprise. An odd combination but it worked. Not enough crab though and it was a small sandwich. $ 12
The short ribs were heavenly. The meat was super tender and literally broke apart with a poke of your fork. The meat was still moist and flavorful. This dish was definitely on the heavier side but it was the most filling entrée out of all.
My least favorite dish was the beef tartare which was disappointing. I was under the impression the mustard ice cream would be more like a cold sauce but it literally is ice cream. It has the texture and consistency of ice cream — creamy and super cold. I was not a fan of it. The ice cream also had some horseradish in it.
They do offer happy hour here as well. There just aren’t that many options to order food off of. But they do offer their house wines for only $ 5 :) I would recommend Eat Drink Americano for a date or a place to catch up on. I would assume it’s really loud over the weekend but on a weekday it was quiet and nice.

I have to say the arts district in DTLA has a few really cool places … now including Eat Drink Americano.
The space itself is rather small, but the atmosphere of this restaurant is really nice.
**NOTE: There is 1-​hour parking just to the side of the restaurant, so park there if you can make the time cutoff**
We started with a cheeseboard, which was nice — they all come with olives, bread and grapes. The honey goat cheese was my favorite by far.
We also had the Garden Fresh Flatbread, which was decent, but definitely not something I’d come back for.
The Oxtail sliders were a favorite of mine … something I’d definitely recommend.
For dessert we had the bread pudding, and it was very well made, though I wish they had put just a tiiiiiiny bit more ice cream on top.
The drinks here are definitely among my favorites in the area … we had an American Mule and the Kentucky Buck, and both had that slightly sour taste I enjoy.
Prices here aren’t on the cheap side, and things can add up, but the atmosphere and great wait staff are well worth it. It’s definitely on my «recommend to people I like» list.

Came here for dinner and had a great time! The restaurant/​bar is really cool. It is decorated with a brick wall, high ceilings and beams, a chalk board and some funky lighting. It’s filled with young people who are there to have a nice evening.
We ate the third street salad and the organic beets, both were delicious. I would highly recommend both!
The bread pudding is absolutely AMAZING!!! Bourbon and pineapple bread pudding.

Was here recently with a few friends for dinner. The restaurant is very casual and hipster. We had a reservation and got seated as soon as we got there with no waiting time which is always a plus.
Soft Shell Crab Sandwich: Love this dish. The soft shell crab was fried to perfection and not oily or greasy at all. It was served with seaweed and an amazing sauce on English muffins.
Popeye and Olive Oil Flatbread: Another good dish. It was like an amazing veggie pizza — it was spinach, provolone, mushrooms, tomato, onion and pesto.
Niman Pork Cheek: Least favorite dish. It was pretty bland and the pork cheeks were dry and tough. The toast alongside it was very stale.
Mushroom with Egg: Average at best. Just a ton of mushrooms with an egg in the middle.
Overall, food was hit and miss. 2 good and 2 bad dishes.

I liked the vibe of this spot. They have a trendy and casual lounge area with more dining tables in a separate back room. Service was friendly, menu items sounded delicious… but in the end, the food and timing made this a disappointing experience.
I went here for a late dinner, and the place was pretty busy but started clearing out mid-​way through the meal. You would think this meant the food could start arriving faster, but the timing took forever. And everything was lukewarm like it had been sitting out and forgotten.
Our group ordered three of the charcuterie options, which didn’t show up before our entrées came out. When we realized we were missing the starter, we told our server, who was really apologetic and took it off the bill. She also offered us a free dessert to make up for the delay. Clearly they were trying, but it wasn’t enough to offset the long waits at every point of the meal — the drinks, the app, the entrées, and the extra bread all came late.
The food itself was a huge letdown, and even more so given how hungry we were from all the waiting. The soft shell crab sandwich was cute and enjoyable. Everything else was mediocre. The short ribs were dry, the bread was blah, even the mushroom with egg was terrible. I didn’t know I could dislike a mushroom + gooey egg yolk combo until their execution of this. It was lukewarm, too liquid-​y, and generally flavorless. I’m easy to please with dessert, but the bread pudding failed to impress.
Definitely not going back for dinner, maybe they are better during lunchtime.

I was a bit disappointed upon arrival when we realized they didn’t have a proper brunch menu (they did mention they were working on it). Since we had already driven all the way to the Art District, we went ahead and ordered one of their pastrami sandwiches and a flatbread pizza.
During their lunch hours, it’s all open seating so you order and pay upfront at the bar and sit anywhere you’d like with a number. The food came out pretty quick. The portion of the pastrami sandwich was quite big and can be shared. Only problem was the bread was a bit hard. I’m guessing it must have laid out for a little while as the texture wasn’t up to par with other similar style sandwiches. But the ingredients inside were fresh and the cheese and veggies blended together very well with each other.
The flatbread we ordered was «Popeye & Olive Oil,» which consisted of spinach (hence the name Popeye), some other veggies such as mushrooms, provolone cheese and spinach pesto. It was baked just right, with the cheese melted and mixed together with everything else very well (my mouth is watering now…). With so much spinach and greens on this thing you’ll definitely be feeling just like Popeye once you walk out of that door!
I don’t know if I’ll come back during brunch hours but I sure do want to give them a chance on their dinner menu (and increase the rating to a 4 star or above).
