do not go to the salon if you are African American with fine hair. The girl who did my hair was very rough with my hair and use the fine tooth comb to put it in rollers. She then left me under the dryer for 2 hours while she finished up her other clients hair. I will never go back to her ever again nor that salon. The service was horrible.

I was referred to this salon by a friend and my experience was horrible. While here in Cali(I’m visiting from New York) I decided that I wanted to get a simple blow out. So, I called asking if I could come in as a «walk in», after hesitating for a few seconds the receptionist(a male) says«no» and demanded I make an appointment. I asked for the pricing & was satisfied with the $ 35 quote he gave me on the simple blowout I wanted(no rollers). The day I scheduled the appointment I was unable to make it, so I called to reschedule. My rescheduled appointment I overslept(I still called) explained what happened and begged to be taken as a walk-in. After going back and forth the receptionist allowed me to come in as a walk-in the following day. When My cab arrived, I was confused as to what is «elegant» about this establishment. The salon is located in a shabby building, I thought I’d arrived at the wrong destination. Anyway, I get inside & explain to the receptionist my situation, he offers to look up my appointment that had been canceled a few days back and found nothing. I wasn’t sure as to why he was doing this because I was now coming in as a walk in. the search for my appointment and his babbling goes on for about 5 – 7 minutes. I look up at the front window & in bold letters it says«walk-ins welcome» now I’m questioning why he gave me a hard time over the phone. He then goes to to ask what I was interested in getting done, I told him the $ 35 quick blowout, he then says«we don’t have that, our blowouts start at $ 45 the $ 35 special ended a long time ago.» Are you kidding me?! He just gave me a quote of $ 35 over the phone. The price didn’t matter, it was the principal. This place is unprofessional & I was losing my patience with the whole experience. I called a cab and while I waited a customer came in. The receptionist offered her water upon arrival. I just shook my head because the same receptionist didn’t greet me when I walked in. The hotel I’m staying at is about 20 minutes away from the salon, so not only did I waste 40+ minutes traveling but over $ 60 in cab fare for me to receive a service.

Nisha is a one trick pony. She can straighten hair well but is not a great stylist overall. She does not know the difference between a curl and a wave. Luckily I was able to style my hair at home to my liking, because after telling her she wasn’t doing it correctly she said she couldn’t change it … She could but she wouldn’t, maybe out of sheer laziness? I’m not sure but it’s not good business either way. Place could use an update furniture wise, very tiny space.

if you want healthy hair come here. Neisha is the best!!! She uses great products. I love how she washes and cuts my hair. She is able to give my hair back the bounce and softness it looses with all the straightening and blow-drying i do. She is also a perfectionist i know she will always have my hair looking right

They were all very nice. However they have no dominican products. I have been going to dominicans for about 20 years. I have never went and not seen dominican products. In addition to a non dominican pure bred white girl(nothing againts white people) did my hair. It came out dry and frizzy. It was a waste of money. My mom seem to have the only dominican there to do her hair. And her hair is just as bad. i wouldnt recommend. Considering all we got were 2 bad wash n set for 92 bucks. Not worth the trip. However i can say they were nice. This place is just not a dominican salon. They need to drop the word dominican from the name of the salon.

This is an awesome salon. I have been here twice to get my hair done by Neesha. She is so sweet and very professional. She is very knowledgable about healthy hair care. Being from NY and finding a good salon was rough for the first 2 months. But after finding Neesha I know feel confident that I have found a salon in LA that I can continue to go to go all my hair needs and different styles.

Im from NY, and have resided in the DC/MD area… ive been fortunate to find a great dominican spot in MD… now out in L.A., and its even harder… this spot is no bueno… it looks like i blew dry, and ATTEMPTED to straighten my hair myself while half asleep… the stylist was unprofessional as well… when I walked in, she didnt even look at me… it took her damn near a minute to put her finger up signaling me to wait because she was checking her voicemail… i left with my hair looking like it had been a week of battling humidity… its only day 2 and i can barely feel my scalp smh my hair isnt that unmanageable to be going through this either because I go to dominicans all of the time — and leave feeling like a million bucks as if i have a relaxer cuz my roots are so straight… never going here again

Being a new LA resident I rushed over to this place the minute I found it on Unilocal and saw the great reviews! Being from NY finding a good hair place that does wash and sets is pretty much impossible living in other regions of the country! I go every week and they are the best! You are greeted very nicely and offered a beverage. Another plus is there is 2 hour meter parking and the Von’s parking lot across the street(I get paranoid about parking in there lol so I just park on the street and pay the meter). My hair always comes out looking healthy and fab! SO happy I found you Dominican Elegance! I will be going here for the rest of my life lol. :)

Poor business model and even shittier customer service(sorry for the language but that’s what it is). I had been trying to book my appointment for awhile and could never get ahold of anyone, but when I finally did I found out that appointments were scarce. No problem, so I booked my appointment two weeks in advance. Made sure to note it and make arrangements around coming to it… which is particularly hard considering the hours of operation for this place. Basically anyone with a full time, professional job can’t come in since they coincide perfectly with regular business hours. But whatever. I made arrangements to leave work THREEHOURS in advance to make it here by 3 all the way from Anaheim. Was way too excited to have my color and roller set booked. So, as I’m getting to LA and accidents abound, I realize I’m going to be ten minutes late. So, as a courtesy, I call the shop and inform them I’ll be ten, possibly 15 minutes, behind schedule. To which I was met with«well let me ask the stylist»…okay. The stylists says she won’t see me. So then I tell them«well I was trying to make this appointment for a month, I made it two weeks ago, my birthday is tomorrow, and I’ll only be ten minutes late.» To which I was then countered with«the stylist needed you here at three on the dot». I get it, so trying to be respectful of her time I ask«okay, well then instead of the original color AND roller set I’m scheduled for, how about just the roller set so that way it won’t take as much time.» To which he says«well the stylist wants to leave early today anyway so she wants you to reschedule.» Basically translating to «I just don’t want to do it and was going to rush your hair anyway»…I mean, I could go on and on about how this is trash in every way but I’ll let the words speak for themselves. Thank you for not only ruining my birthday, and losing a LOT of future business, but showing me that my money is better spent elsewhere than with poor businessmen like yourselves.

I visited this salon on a trip from Washington, DC. Nesha did my hair. I love it. I got a roller set. She trimmed my ends. She showed me how to pin curl my hair to keep the style. I will definitely be back. I had some jacked up ends, but she gave me some good advice and I feel positive about my hair.

FINALLY a salon that knows how to do my hair with class and professionalism! When you walk in, they are super friendly and offer you coffee. The hair dressers wash your hair really well, cleaning the scalp with good products, and offering homemade dominican deep conditioners! :) they are gentle yet efficient during a blowout, and give your hair the volume, shine, and bounce it needs to make you feel like Tyra banks when you leave the salon :) And to top it off, their prices are affordable compared to other dominican salons in Southern California! Y pa toda mi gente dominicana, you’ll feel right at home! ;) hablan español y son muy amable! Best salon in LA area!

Nesha has worked wonders on my hair!!! I am so excited because after deciding to not wear weaves any longer I was really nervous about how my hair would turn out and if it would grow without a weave. After seeing Nesha my hair has been growing and back to its natural state. I havent worn a weave in over 2 years which still surprises me! She is very friendly and seems to be really concerned about my hair which I love! I trust her and follow her instructions… my hair hasn’t stopped growing yet. She clips my ends every 6 weeks without chopping off all of my hair like some hair stylist do, so I love her for that. She also has used a steam treatment a few times which makes my hair feel so soft! She’s young so she knows how to give those celebrity style hair-do’s also! I always recieve compliments on my hair… And family and friends notice how much my hair has grown. Now my mom and my cousin also get their hair done by her. I have only had great experiences with Nesha and I highly recommend her, especially if you care about your natural hair!!!

Don’t be fooled… this is the BEST salon in town. I was struggling with my daughters dry brittle damaged hair. Provi brought it back to life. Trust me it was not overnight… but Provi knew exactly what to do! Now onto my hair… my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been. Provi is extremely knowledgeable on hair types. I have seen experienced the benefits as well as watch others progress… you have to give this place a try. I, did mention the reasonable prices.

I love this place! It’s a great space and super clean. For parking, there is a Von’s across the street. Provi is a sweetheart and always hooked me up with a great roller set and blow out! Unfortunately, I’m a bit far to make weekly trips here :(But i WILL be back! I highly recommend this salons for those of us with thick/curly/frizzy«ethnic» hair.

The salon was okay. I went during the tuesday special no one was there. I have natural hair and the hairdresser told me it was only for relaxed and it won’t be bone straight. I said let’s do it anyway. I should have heeded her warning. She was pretty rough with my hair, and used a fine tooth comb to go at my dry hair. I had to tell her to stop get my hair wet and use a widetooth comb. She seemed annoyed that my head was too curly and would take a while to do it right. Understandable, but when I’m the only one in your shop, you should be able to take your time and not pull my hair out with a rattail comb. i was looking for a new way to wear my hair so she basically lost a customer interested in weekly services. In the end my hair was stretched, still a bit wet and had kinky roots. I didn’t expect much and was fine paying the 30 for it, because i probably couldn’t do better myself. I agree with the earlier poster who this place was for people with curly and not kinky, coily hair. I also didn’t give any more than two stars because even though my hair is nappy I know i can achieve a decent roller set. She didn’t really bother to try.
