Description

Specialties

Open daily from morning til night, it’s a great place for students to study while they snack and for anyone who wants to have a round of video games while having a drink with friends. This is not your ordinary internet café, since it hosts weekly events such as evening classes in computer-aided art & web design and video gaming tournaments at our gaming bar. Sit down with a book from our Friends of the Library Bookshelf — OR — order some custom t-shirts, stickers, and signage which are available through the Digital Divide Design Team. Located in the heart of Lincoln Heights, the Digital Divide Internet Café serves the surrounding community coffee, sandwiches, and computer stations — as it brings awareness to the issue of who has access to our growing world wide web (www) of information technology. Come join us as we cross the digital divide together!

History

Established in 2012.

When 3 recent Art Center Alumni got together in Lincoln Heights to start a design studio — they realized that the surrounding community was very much apart of what’s defined as «the digital divide». Truth is, even in a technologically advanced city like Los Angeles, there are neighborhoods that are mostly functioning without any access to the internet and all of the benefits that information technology has to offer… So, they approached a local business owner who had already been selling food out of her storefront and formed a partnership to re-design her place of business to become a center for locals to use computers, access the internet, play video games, and participate in educational workshops for using computers in art, design, and business. To make this technology a direct benefit to local businesses, the Digital Divide Design Team inside the café provides custom t-shirts, decals, and signage service. This venture is our way of making Lincoln Heights a neighborhood hotspot!
