This is yet another example of an awesome silver lake business. The staff is friendly and helpful. The leather good are to die for. The quality of the leather is incredible, and his designs are varied — there’s something for everyone in here. Guys are typically hard to shop for — but Dean Leather makes it easy. When the strap on my thrift store purse broke after one month of use, I decided to finally get a decent, well-​made handbag. I live within walking distance of Dean and had stopped in the shop many times to admire their finely crafted leatherwork, but was always a bit too low on finances to consider a purchase. This time I decided that the cash outlay would be worth it if the purse lasted for years. The sales clerk was very helpful, explaining how they recycled leather jackets to make some pieces, showing me various sizes of handbags, talking about the quality and fine stitching, and trying to work with my budget. To my delight, there was a purse that wound up in the clearance bin because it is an odd shape that fit me and my budget perfectly! I left the store pleased and am even more pleased as I’ve gotten a ton of compliments on my handbag!

This place is awesome! Got some accessories there on a whim; the people working were nice and helpful, and they make all of the goods in the back… there’s a little window so you can even see what they’re doing. A refreshingly rustic store in Silverlake.

Awesome staff, they’re very friendly and make great conversation. This really is an amazing and unique store. As a women that deeply appreciates the arts and beautiful fashion accessories I can say that this store satisfies both of those needs for me. And what also works for me is that the colors they work with are beyond gorgeous. They are a bit pricey here but their leather accessories are unique and absolutely adorable which makes it all worth the price.

I discovered DEAN from a friend. I borrowed her purse once and knew I had to have one for myself! I was a firefighter for 17 years, never got used to carrying a purse, so this was my first «big girl» purse. I called and spoke to Oscar. He was so helpful. I placed my custom order, he told me he was working on that style «today» and that he would probably make it that day! When it arrived, it was love at first sight! I use it daily, but nice enough to go out and look chic. Fast forward about a year, I finally made it down to Silver Lake! I had to see/​smell/​touch this place first hand! I had the pleasure to meet Oscar first hand, he was lovely! They are true craftsmen here! I believe they make everything I do plan on buying more pieces from DEAN… I just couldn’t decide between silver or the moss green!

I come here for literally any leather issue, whether something needs to be fixed, cleaned, reupholstered, etc. A girlfriend of mine turned me onto the place last year when my beautiful leather purse form Argentina got a huge scratch on it while out one night. I thought it was pretty much ruined and I would have to put up with the ugly scratch anytime I wore it. Nope! She recommended Dean Leather so I brought the purse in, left it overnight and the next day my beautiful baby looked brand new! Thank you a million for all you do and Dean Leather Accessories will always have my business!

I have been a fan of Dean even before the cool Sunset Junction store. The styling has always been very unique and different from everything else out there–
When the store opened on Sunset the product became more accessible to others but they continued to evolve the style and continued to give me even more a reason to buy MORE.
I live in Austin now and still carry my Dean bags and everyone wants to know where they can get the DEAN look. Keep giving us more Dean!!!

I have been collecting Dean bags for almost 9 years now and as a result, I have a lot of bags and I love them all! The designs are unique, modern and extremely well made. Beautiful leather craftsmanship that holds up, my bags from 9 years ago still look great. My mother in law really loves the watches, which just goes to say that the designs are universal and for all types of people.

I just made my first Dean purchase a month ago and I’m sorry to say there’s some serious buyer’s remorse. What I wanted was a big leather bag that I could replace my ubiquitous Longchamp with as an everyday commuter tote. Thus, it needs to hold a wallet, a phone, a laptop, a book, and a water bottle.
Aesthetics:
I bought the thimble (
). The exterior leather looks great and the metal work looks great. There are leather straps that extend at least six inches over the leather and they stick out in the most annoying way and it gets worse with time. It would be way better if they were either heavier and didn’t warp upwards or were somehow secured to the bag. That’s both an aesthetic and practical issue for me.
Functionality:
It does hold all the things I mentioned, but it makes the bag feel way too heavy and the strap digs in hard to my shoulder. Even though it’s a big bag, you can’t carry much weight in it because the straps are not thick enough to distribute all the weight comfortably. Another person on here noted the lack of lining. Maybe it’s lined, I’m not really sure. But whatever the interior is made of, it leaves little black fuzzies all over everything and generally feels kind of icky when I dip my hand in. There are also not enough interior pockets.
I wanted a Dean bag because they’re domestically made, the leather looked very nice, and the price was reasonable. There are too many design flaws, in my opinion. Perhaps other bags don’t have these issues.

Dean Leather is a worthwhile investment. I’m really picky about leather, especially because I am a vegetarian and when I buy something that’s leather I only feel OK buying something that’s recycled or of such high quality that it will last for years and years of use.
I bought a wallet here made out of recycled leather jackets, and I absolutely love it. It’s so soft and well made. Everything has a hand-​stitched sensibility to it, and true to what it says on their website, Dean products «use old methods of construction with updated shapes and exciting „new“ leathers, thus blending past and present.»
If you want a sensible, classic style leather product that’s going to last forever and easily blend into your each season, year after year, then come here.

I have several bags that I’ve had for several years. They still look great. I get lots of compliments. Even from other leather workers in Manhattan!
They are nice, well made and will last forever. Well worth the money.

I didn’t even know this awesome shop existed! Came here while we were waiting for Café Stella to open for dinner. So glad we did! The bags are gorgeous in a tasteful, yet funky way. If you like supporting local artists and shy away from mass merchandising, come check out this place. Besides, the two vintage chairs are way cool!

I am not an expert on leather, but I did work in retail sales for several years. Dean struck me as an authentic, well mannered, courteous and professional business, one that was run well and well represented by Keisha.
The ambiance and products have a rustic, Western, handmade and hand tooled quality. If you’ve seen those sturdy young men in pick-​up trucks who still wear Wranglers and live somewhere out in the desert, they often carry those heavy, elongated key chains. Dean sells these.
If you ever have been around bearded artists who work with iron, or those 60-​year-​old-​women who still wear their hair down to their butt as they did in 1970, they probably will have a thick leather studded cuffs, twice the size that is needed, locked around their hairy wrists. Dean sells these Jim Morrison era watchbands.
They carry recycled leather handbags, made from old leather jackets.
Their watches are drilled into wide leather straps. Nothing here is dainty or petite.
They make their own leather and maybe that is why some of their purses have heavy gauge steel zippers. Their workmanship is local, and the quality is fastidious. But it is styled in an American craftsy way. Think of West Texas or Cheyenne, Wyoming. Not the Left Bank or Milan.
Harley-​riding, granola-​crunching, cats-​on-​the-​porch, stained glass and mahogany loving, pot plant and organic cat litter buyers could spend hours here.

Okay, so if you are in PETA, don’t read this. If you are a lover of all things leather, then read on. I happen to dig leather goods, and dig leather even more when they are on their second time around as a cool piece. Dean definitely delivers on that tip. They have purses made of old leather jackets, so each one is totally unique and will feature a neat random pocket here and there and it really makes their stuff super cute.
The colors of the leather here are also to die for. The greens (oh that perfect light green!!), the grayish blues and the ass kicker reds, just scrumptious! The styles are also all over the size map, so if you are looking for a small little girlie bag or a big mama power tote, chances are they will have it. If a bookbag type of sling is more your game, then you are covered too! They also have bags for men and women, along with a nice line of accessories and even watches.
The prices aren’t super cheap, but the quality of the goods is definitely high end, so for that special splurge on an item that will make your entire look sing, I highly recommend a stop in here!
