Cosmetic Dental of Westwood

I contemplated not writing a review simply because I love these dentists so much that I wanted to keep them all to myself! Haha but the guilt got to me and here I am. I moved to LA from NY and was weary of finding a new dentist. I mean going to the dentist can be painful. But I know that I have found the BEST dentists on the westside. I came for a cleaning and had a cavity filled and walked away with a saved tooth and pearly whites. Beside my awesome smile, the whole office friendly and caring. I would recommend anyone to come here. You’ll be in good hands for sure.

Update to my review:
I previously left a not so great review after a weird experience at Cosmetic Dental of Westwood, but the dentist called me this morning to remedy the situation and I feel satisfied with the resolution.
I came to this office three years ago for a cleaning as they were running a new patient special and I was in between insurances. Unfortunately, I happened to come in while the regular dentist was on maternity leave, and my visit was with a temporary dentist filling in. The visit was not great and involved much up-​selling and left me with a very bad feeling about the office.
After posting a negative review, I got a call from the regular dentist who was kind and compassionate. She seems to be very caring and ethical. Thank you for making me feel much better about my experience.

I love this place!!! They have made the entire dental experience painless and actually enjoyable. The staff does a really good job of getting to know you by talking to you during your session so it’s painless.
Sunny in particular is an angel. She seriously cares sooooo much about her patients. She has personalized my Invisalign experience and has made me so excited and happy about my smile.
Dr Shakib is an expert In her field. She has done a few cavity fills for me. They have been sooooo painless. She gave me headphones to listen to music and the entire process was so not intimidating. Thankful to have found this place!

This place is the absolute best and that is coming from the biggest dentist-​sissy of all time. The doctors are amazing and the assistants are beyond amazing! Always light hearted and effortlessly ease tension on a daily basis. This place is no joke and if you like people who are good at what they do and who do it with an amazing spirit, this is your place. They have a patient for life!

Dr. shakibkhoo is amazing! I had my first consult with her today. She is very easy to talk to, patient, knowledgeable and thorough! She acts in her patients best interests and is affordable. I was referred to her by a friend who spoke very highly of her. The whole staff was very sweet. I look forward to going back– she seems very trust worthy (and normally I don’t look forward to going to a dentist at all)! Lol

I love this dental office, the staff and Dr. Shakibkhoo. They are professional, caring, honest and affordable. I was introduced to this dental office a few years ago by a good friend and since then I have been referring all my friends to them. Dr. Shakibkhoo is very knowledgable and honest about what she does. This is the first dentist I have been to that doesn’t try to sell you on unnecessary work. She gives you her honest opinion and is very caring about her patients.
I had to take my daughter to my appointment and worried that she would be scared of the dentist and bored. Dr. Shakibkhoo was so accommodating to her. She brought out crayons, paper, a desk and chair for my daughter to sit at and a treasure chest full of prizes and games to keep her busy while I had a filling replaced. The doctor explained all the instruments she used and what she was doing with each… this made me very comfortable. Thanks to Dr. Shakibkhoo and her staff for being so great.

Love this place. Had 2 root canals done and was shocked at how little discomfort there was. They follow up, the front desk staff is amazing at figuring out billing/​carecredit and everything else! The Doctor is amazing and gentle. Can’t recommend them enough!

Imagine taking your Volvo into a shop that is dedicated exclusively to Volvos. The master mechanic of 13 years greats you and spends an appreciable time under the hood learning all of the tiny, seemingly insignificant, ways your Volvo is different than every other Volvo. She gushes with excitement as she connects the dots of tiny nuances that have been compounding into bigger problems. She explains exactly how the inside of your engine works in remarkably technical detail, yet you understand it completely.
Her and her staff get to work, fix the Volvo perfectly, and make an earnest effort to make sure you master the nuances of maintenance to save you boatloads of cash.
The Volvo is your mouth, and you’d be wise to park it in Dr. Shakibhs office for a tune up.
There are many professional dentists out there; there are few «teeth nerds» who do it with passion. That’s Dr. Shakibh.

After a couple of bad experiences with Beverly Hills dentists and feeling like I was always trying to be ‘up-​sold’ a bunch of stuff I knew I didn’t need, this Dentist and her office were a breath of fresh air!!!
From the minute I walked in, I felt completely at ease.
Dr. Shakib dealt with me personally for my first visit, and was just great! I highly recommend this Doctor and office!

I have been a patient of Dr. Shakhbh’s for a few years now and continue to be impressed with her commitment to perfection. I have had a rough year with several procedures and some repeated procedures and she has always taken the time to explain my options and offer me the most effective and efficient solutions.
She also stands behind her work which is a very valuable quality in any profession.
Her staff is also knowledgeable and very friendly.
The fact that my appointments feel like visiting with a friend is just icing on the cake.

I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Sarah Farzan. She was very talkative and kind, and the office worked out a deal for me as I don’t have dental insurance. Dr. Sarah Farzan is no-​nonsense and only recommended that I do necessary work, which is greatly appreciated in a world of up-​sells.
I will be back soon for my followup dental work, and will update the review then.

I found Dr Shakibh here on Unilocal and when I cross referenced her with my insurance company’s network she was listed so it was a no brainer for me. I’m happy to report that her high ratings are well deserved. Her «bedside manner» is great, she explains things clearly and her follow up also added a nice touch.
The office is nicely decorated, clean and she seems to have new equipment. A quick tip is to park on the street because the parking attendant only takes cash which I never carry anymore, plus the meters are so much cheaper and go up to 2 hours. Her staff even told me they’d feed the meter if I needed it.
My deep cleaning went well and didn’t hurt like I was expecting. Great dental hygienist by the way. Oh and the icing on the cake is that this office is filled with pretty women!

I had 2 dentist bad experiences in my life and this is one of them., I am not gonna spend lots of time typing how bad this people is., so I will be brief.
The moment I walk in a patient was paying her bill and was in shock of how much money the whole treatment will cost., I know dentist work cost a lot but this was insane., I was lucky to experience that as I walk in., then my treatment started I was there cause I purchase a discount coupon from groupon so all I needed was a clean up., I have beautiful healthy teeth but this ladies were all friendly trying to convince me that I needed treatment., and I did not wanted to I knew all I needed was a clean up., they send me 3 ladies to convince me that I should take a whole treatment before they will do any work on me., right before they will do clean up to finally once they give up they quickly did my clean up and were acting so rude at me lol I couldn’t believe!
Truly the worse dentist office I ever visit., tho the doctor is a beautiful looking lady still the worse place I been.

I went once and never went back.
Charging hundreds of dollars for fictional procedures and refusing to discuss them with me is just unacceptable and ridiculous. The office, and the staff, smell.
The high reviews here are from clueless neanderthals who think conversational skills make a good dentist. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Summary: 5 stars for decent price, great service and care, short wait time.

— Scheduling: I scheduled an appointment over the phone. You can also do it online. First-​time visitors should fill out the «Patient Form» tab from the website. Someone at the desk will print it out before you come, and then you sign it.
— Price: $ 21 for a general oral examination and $ 84 for X-​rays (full mouth 18 shots, less if you have smaller teeth).
— Wait time: I arrived about 5 minutes early and did not have to wait long.
— Staff: Dr. Shakib and her staff were polite, wonderful, and helpful. After asking me further health history questions (be descriptive — it helps her help you) and taking notes, Dr. Shakib explained that she likes to build a relationship with her clients, so we chatted a bit. She welcomes questions and concerns about health and insurance. Jamie (?) and Michelle at the front desk can double check what you’re covered for if you need any procedures. They will also walk you through the charges when you’ve agreed to a new procedure. Do not hesitate to ask them for a receipt of services for your own records before you leave. Marco, Dr. Shakib’s assistant, was very friendly. There was another assistant whose name I didn’t catch, but she was equally nice and actually had the same problem I did and eased my fears about it.
— Equipment: Although they work in a small office, they have very nice equipment. I went in for X-​rays of my teeth, which uploaded immediately to the computer so that Dr. Shakib could explain the images. According to them, these X-​rays have a highly reduced amount of radiation. They also used a camera to take a photo of the problem area of my gum and put the image on the screen. Later, I needed to remove some tissue; the numbing gel used was effective (I barely felt anything) and the laser used was surprisingly silent. Dr. Shakib made sure to ask me if I was feeling okay throughout.
— After care: They worked at a comfortable pace. I was there for around 40 – 45 minutes. I called in later with my card information to make the payment. Several hours later, I received a text from Dr. Shakib to check up on my gums. She really cares about her patients!
I went to a free follow-​up appointment the following week and saw Dr. Sandy (?) who was also nice and personable. Again, I didn’t wait long. The checkup went so fast, it felt like I was out the door in 10 minutes.

I decided to check out a new dentist my mother was raving about. Of course I gotta check the dentist out on Unilocal.Mmmmh 4.95 stars…
I knew I wanted a female dentist as one of my other dentists can no longer perform the dental work and the new guy that works on me has thick fingers that gag me…
Anyway I decided to check out Cosmetic Dental in Westwood based on my moms rave and Unilocal raves.
I had a list of demands of what I wanted done to my one molar tooth that chipped on the corner allowing a crevice for food entry.
I walked into an airy environment. Not too large waiting room, but quaint. .the music was my type and there are large windows that look out over Westwood Blvd. Since I was the only customer at the moment I dropped my list of demands while Michelle listened patiently.
Yes I’ll fill out the form. No you will not get my SS# or DL# because I’m paying cash. Yes all I want is an xray of my molar and a price. Michelle was like cool no problem. I like this person I thought.
After a little chit chat with Jamie and Michelle, Sonny called me into a smartly laid out area and took a hi-​tech xray.
I like Sonny because she listened to me as I dropped my knowledge about college, entrepreneurship, music etc while she prepped me for the dentist. As I dropped my science she was able to summarize my thoughts with a word or two which lets me know she was listening and that’s the type of people I like to communicate with. For her to be a youngin’ she’s very on top of it. Life, work and business. High 5 for Sonny!
A few minutes later Sandra Shakib glides in and looks at my xray and introduces herself. Thirteen years a dentist with a background from UCLA and USC. I told her about the time she was at USC I probably was there getting a free crown anyway… she analyzed my xray and mentioned three options.
Cheap, reasonable and expensive (not in those words). Great my type of dentist!
Sandra began to discuss the various textures for the filling and when I didn’t quite understand she broke out with this baby snake camera. She took a picture and I could clearly see my tooth. My tooth looked better than I thought… We talked price and you know some dentist don’t do that… she wasn’t 100% sure on the quote and came back with a reasonable price.
I thought I would have to book an appointment, but she said she could knock it out in 30 minutes and I was like go for it.
I’ve been to enough dentists to know if they are good administering the shot then from my experience the dentist will probably be ok. She passed the needle test. I did appreciate the words of comfort in regards to when the needle was going deep into my gum and around my inner jaw lining… too much info sorry!
Anyway…while we waited for the numbness to set in we briefly spoke about her home country Iran and I spoke about the shiesty governments of the world…
Within minutes Sandra quickly got to work. Very confident of the tools she used while making sure I was comfortable. Sonny professionally assisted her. Focused and confident.
Sandra basically got rid of the old filling and made sure my bite was good. I was out in less than a half hour. My other male dentist in Santa Monica would have charged me for a crown as would have my Culver City dentist and it might have been another appointment!
Anyway Cosmetic Dental has a new client! And my other two dentists will be getting a pink slip…
Give me what I want… is what I want… and that’s what I got!

I normally avoid going to dentists/​eye doctors/​anything medical on the West Side because I have found the services on this side of town are a bit higher.
I work a couple blocks away, and this man came into our building, selling $ 60 teeth whitening vouchers, & with that you get an exam. Not bad I thought, for $ 60, he claims it’s $ 450 normally. Hmmm…
I went in there yesterday, & it was interesting because the place is located in a corporate office building. This really feels like a city dentist. It’s small inside.
They really tried to milk more money out of me for a $ 95 cleaning, I’ll pass on that now since I don’t live in LA. Also tried to get me to buy $ 500 invisalign trays but I politely passed there too.
Overall, this place is decent, the cleaning seems kind of high, but that’s just me.

Honestly, I hate going to the dentist but my visit to Cosmetic Dentistry of Westwood was nothing but pleasant. From my first initial phone call to my visit, the staff was helpful, courteous and accommodating.
Dr. Shakibh was great! She has this energy about her; you can tell she loves her job! She walks you through the whole procedure and makes sure that you’re comfortable the entire time.
I was nervous that I would walk in and walk out with a fat bill (especially since I haven’t had my wisdom teeth removed) — absolutely not the case here! Dr. Shakibh explained to me that your wisdom teeth don’t necessarily push your other teeth, and that if there is no discomfort and no infection of any sort, removal is not necessary! Boy, was I relieved (my wall was too!). Dr. Shakibh is anything but pushy. She will not push you to get procedures you don’t need.
I walked out extremely happy and relieved. Thanks, Dr. Shakibh and office staff! See you in 6 months!

I finally found a dentist that does not make me cringe! I am very impressed with this practice and the knowledge base of Dr. Shakibkhoo was excellent. I also appreciated the way she took time to answer all my questions and explain things to me in a clear and easy to understand fashion. Also, they have a VERY courteous staff as well, everybody there was great. Seriously, the STAFF here is awesome, and that has not been the case for me with many other offices.
I would seriously recommend this place to anyone needing a knowledgeable and nice dentist.
OK, so I had to post an update to this which makes these guys not only great dentists, but actually great people who really value their customers. As we were finishing up my appointment, I realized my meter was close to running out. So Susan there went down to feed the meter for me, and they had literally given me a ticket by 1 minute.
Anyway, they actually said they would pay for the ticket, $ 63, even though I said it was not their fault and 100% they did not need to do that. I even offered to split it with them, but they said no, they wanted to cover it.
Now that to me, is a business and people, that care about their customers and the relationships they build with them. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone, as great dentists that are ethical and great people, to me is the best combination out there!

Dr Shakibkhoo is so ethical, kind, and caring. First of all she told me the small cavities I have she can observes and don’t need fillings right now. She did my Invisalign and made my smile absolutely amazing;)
My hygienist Laila always takes her time and is so gentle.
