Being Australian I am a total coffee snob so am constantly expecting the worst from US coffee shops. It seems on this occasion my fears were unfounded– my snobbery was totally satisfied! Coffee Commissary is an incredible place with great staff and even better coffee. Definitely drop in here– try the Almond Milk Iced Latte!

I really appreciate the industry feel of this simple coffee bar. Yes, it is over-priced like the rest of Hollywood, but the crowd and the atmosphere are very cool and low-key. Every time I lounge on the bench there, a couple of agents or producers stop by to say hello.

A hidden gem next to the lobby of Siren Studios. Very good espresso drinks, and tasty baked goods. I was pleased that they had a vegan option-a banana walnut muffin($ 3), which was very tasty. Sweet and moist, but hearty enough for breakfast. My iced Americano with almond milk($ 3) was also excellent. I love the atmosphere here-very clean and spacious, with lots of tables and outlets. They accept all credit cards. This would theoretically be a great place to work, but the music is EXTREMELY loud, and the baristas, who were extremely snobby when serving me, were having an obnoxiously loud conversation. The brown haired hipster one with no makeup/the big nose was especially irritating. Literally, yelling. At everyone. At 10am. Shhhhh it’s too early.

Got a vanilla almond latte and it looked great! However, if I had not been in a hurry, I would have returned it. They ruined the taste of the expresso by adding so much syrup it just tastes like sugar. Gross! Also $ 1 for almond milk? REALLY?

Great coffee. Great service. I wish they had food. Park on Gower, south of Sunset and you’ll be fine. Easy and great place to meet someone real quick or chill out and get some work done.

The cold brew was too bitter and over extracted. This could be from using a darker roast or poor quality coffee or from letting it brew too long. It was also watery, seemed like the ice was added hours ahead of time and left to sit in the fridge. The texture was gritty, especially noticeably on the finish. Having too fine a grind causes the grittiness.

The cookie!!! Best chocolate chip cookie in LA!!! Yes it’s a hefty price but the flavor and size is on point. It took me 3 days to eat this cookie and it stayed fresh the whole time. GETTHECOOKIE. The coffee… meh. The cubano is ok if you ask for it a little less sweet otherwise the coffee gets overwhelmed. Get the cookie.

I don’t like coffee, don’t even drink coffee, but my first experience here — earlier today — was highly memorable. My friend and I got lunch down the street from a new-ish dim sum place w/o any indoor or outdoor seating, so came over to the Commissary to sit, eat, and chat. Immediate points for not pulling the«no outside food/drink» policy. We ordered drinks at the Commissary and the employee — Sabrina? — happily accommodated my friend’s off-the-menu request. I ordered orange juice. And then the employee complimented my Peaches t-shirt, which made us launch into a short version of the story behind how the very same friend had bought me the shirt at a concert a few months back. Then, a few minutes after we sat down and began to eat, I noticed that the employee had changed the music to an exclusively Peaches playlist(when we walked in minutes before, it had been playing innocent but unremarkable country music). The whole experience was just… so pleasant, easygoing, and thoughtful. I mean… Just nice. Really nice. Really really nice. Like I said, I don’t even drink coffee but based on today’s experience, I will make an effort to go back when in the area. Goodness knows there is a lot of competition when it comes to coffee shops. Going the extra mile really counts.

Their cold brew went up $ 0.50 at some point and I really don’t care. Get the cold brew. The coffee is excellent, the baked goods are a fun treat(though I really just come here for coffee), the cartoons on the wall are fun and the staff is super wonderful(though I really just come here for the coffee). If you’re in Hollywood this is where you should get coffee. Little parking unless you go to the La Monarca/H&R Block/Papa Johns parking lot next door.

Been here a few times now. First few times were when they were only a window that you order through off Sunset. Now, you’re allowed to go inside near the studios. Great coffee here just like the other two locations with the same tasty baked goods. My friend had a quiche and said he liked it. I’ve had pastries here that were really, really good. It’s a bit pricey but it’s all gourmet and artisan so that’s to be expected especially from an Indie coffee shop. It’s a cool place to hang out and enjoy a coffee break. Very close to the redeveloped area of Hollywood where they are doing all sorts of new constructions so they have a good spot here. Now I’ve read that they the Los Angeles city council has approved the Palladium Towers which are going to be a mix-use combo of retail and apartments. This place is going to see a lot more foot traffic from both residents and the new office workers that’ll be moving to the area. Pretty exciting times for the area. #ILoveLA

Vanilla lattes are good! Actually have a quality coffee taste versus chemically. nice inside if you wanna do some work and I like the little window outside where you can order from. In the heat it’s a bit impractical but novel and cute

This place is not pretentious as a lot of specialty coffee shops are. Deep on the heart of Hollywood, I was reluctant o come here for a meeting but it actually turned out to be great. The coffee was so good, I bought a bag to take home. Just a tad more than I usually spend for a nice bag of beans but they obviously spent some money on the place so it justifies the price. The choc croissants and other pastries are not like in Paris but are still very good. like it here. Parking as always is a bitch in HW but if your lucky to find a spot… go.

Hey what can you… They have great coffee! I generally only get mochas of some form, my sweet tooth loves it. Coffee commissary did a great job of making a tasty beverage! The next step for me is to go back for the food… A great reason to spend some time in Burbank. Wait here while you are waiting for a meeting!

Needed to get my day started off right, and I made the right choice in coming here! Went in this morning(Sunday, 11⁄08), around 8am-ish. Heard great things, so wanted to see for myself. I wanted a coffee that would jolt me awake and also wanted to focus on some work and get away from domestic distractions. The décor was hip: white walls with black etchings, high ceilings, wooden tables. There was ample seating and free wi-fi. The barista played some beautiful 50’s lounge music by the talented Peruvian songstress, Yma Sumac. The service was knowledgeable and hospitable. At the suggestion of the barista, I ended up with an iced coffee with almond milk, as well as a homemade biscuit and jam. Yummy on all counts. Coming so early on a Sunday morning, I easily found parking, but it is located on Sunset in Hollywood, so I feel any other time, it’d be more of a pain to park. My visit was great on all counts, so I’m sure I’ll be back.

I have to agree with Maya, Commissary is one of the best coffee shops in LA. They make all their baked goods from fresh, organic ingredients. They source they’re coffee from the best roasters out there, most of which are fair-trade and high quality. They use organic milk and only soy/almond milk not chalked full of questionable additives(read those labels). So for the people complaining about cost, the price of fresh, quality ingredients is higher than standard. Now if you like over roasted, burnt ass beans(Starbucks) done so to preserve shelf life. If you want to drink chemicals and hormones from cows that never saw much daylight and lived in such deplorable conditions they had to pump their full of those antibiotics so that disease didn’t spread, then order a latte at McDonalds, your local gas station or wherever a latte is less than 3 dollars. Then order that. If you want to learn to actually taste food, then come off the chemicals tat you think make coffee taste great. There’s an art and science to the craft of coffee. You thought wine required work, try coffee, its four times hard to taste and describe what’s actually happening with the been. Keep it up Commissary. One day you will save Los Angeles from every crappy cup. As long as you keep that gluten-free thing I eat every Friday…

I’m surprised any Coffee Commissary place is getting anything lower than a 5 star review. Some people seem confused as to what they’re paying for when they pay 3 – 4 dollars for an espresso drink(which is approx the same at all places serving them, even starbucks). I’ve been going to the Commissaries for 3 years now, it is one of the places that I started developing a taste for espresso and tasting the difference between good and bad coffee. I stopped going to the starbucks across the street and started going here. So why is this place good? They use quality, freshly roasted beans, usually coava. They have the proper equipment which is morazocco, they also use organic milk and make their vanilla syrup(idk about the other syrups) fresh and not that over processed sh** that comes in a bottle and makes you want to gag it’s so sweet. All the baristas know the proper techniques to pulling proper shots, and can clearly steam milk properly which reflects in their latte art. The location is an extension of Siren Studios, it’s not really a freestanding shop that has it’s own parking which is why it seems to be getting some lower reviews. This area in hollywood is difficult to park at. It is a decently large space and can seat a good amount of people in an air conditioned, quiet area, and it DOES have wifi. There is a service window outside where you don’t have to go into the shop(and a lot of people don’t realize there’s an indoors) if you need to wait by your car that’s in the loading zone. I do agree with one review, it is a bit much to upcharge a dollar for almond milk. The other review with the bad coffee really must have been an anomaly. I’ve had dozens of cappuccinos and lattes from here and not one was ever bad. While they don’t make their food there(it comes from the CC that have kitchens) all of it is delicious, especially the quiches, cookies, porkbelly sandwiches and turnovers. Also the girls that work here are wonderful, and I go here and enjoy having conversations with them while I sit at the«bar» chatting with them.

Thankfully I was on foot when I decided I needed a round two of espresso because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to find this place. It isn’t marked clearly nor big enough for someone driving on Sunset Blvd to see. [Hence a four star instead of a five.] To put it simply, Coffee Commissary is located INSIDE Siren Studios and is right on Sunset Blvd [& Beachwood Dr] across from Denny’s. Its convenient because they have an outside window you can order from if you’re in a real hurry or if you’re looking to sit, there is a nice little lobby on the inside(the AC works fantastic! Lol, you know LA weather ;) Having spent much time at the Coffee Commissary in Burbank, I’ve grown to like, no love, their Cubano [“The beverage, which has the same proportions as a cappuccino, also contains house-made cinnamon sugar syrup, which mirrors some of the warmth of unrefined Demerara sugar”.] Its like the perfect in-between of a capp and a latte. At $ 4, I can’t complain. The staff here, although it must be incredibly slow here, is surprisingly very friendly and cheery. That’s a huge plus because most of us are in that grumpy«Get-Me-A-Coffee-In-My-BEEP-Hand-Or-Else» mood when we go to get our crack in a cup, so to have a happy employee offset that, is pure gold. My only complaint(not sure if its valid or not honestly) is that there isn’t any wifi. But I guess most who come to CC are doing to go or work in Siren Studios and have wi-fi in their office. I just realized this CC is in SS –yes, I am a huge nerd lol.

Not the biggest space for a coffee shop, nor is it located in place where it’s easy to find parking– located on the first floor near the lobby of Siren Studios, with a convenient window on facing the street where you can pick up your coffee and go– but well worth stopping by for a Cubano or premium cold brew, and perhaps a delicious pastry or two. Their small menu is prone to change daily, but with simple, yet filling offerings like pomegranate & ricotta cheese-filled Danishes or Salted Caramel Rice Crispies squares, as well as the occasional scone or muffin, it’s not a bad way of pairing the perfect snack to go with that delicious coffee. The Cubano is my personal favorite– balanced with just the right amount of sweetness, cinnamon-flavored simple syrup, & milk/cream– but all of their coffees have that high quality taste you just won’t find at your local Starbucks. And at $ 4 a cup, it’s a fair bargain for the perfect midday snack. Again, the space is small, but charming. And don’t worry, it’s not too hipster.

When it comes to dating, everyone says looks are not everything. That is the exact impression that I got from this joint. Yes, the place is conventionally located in the mellow Hollywood area and the design of the place is pretty incredible. The coffee is also visually appetizing. The downfall? I paid around $ 5.50 — $ 6 for a latte that had no degree of good taste. I had to pay a dollar extra as well for almond milk. At lease I was able to take a nice Instagram photo. Would I come back here again? Sure if I feel like spending over $ 5 on mediocre coffee. And the pastries? That’s another layer of hell for your wallet. I also had the inconvenience of dealing with a barista douche. I’m sure that’s new right? Here’s a poem I wrote inspired by this place called«Bad Coffee» This coffee tastes like complete shit I fell into the appeal of hipster breweries I’ve entered the land of the Anthropology wearing douches Pubic-beards, Los Angeles lurkers Coming from the depths of a gentrified hell, Dante’s Inferno but with vegan cookies and soy tears A false bohemian counter-culture Oh may it burn! Oh may the tomb fall, at this chic false-pretense
