Went out with a couple of my girls. Had a blast with my girls honestly. The bottom floor is easier to move around and Dance as well a mixture of hip hop and Latin hits. Upstairs is fun too! But it’s too small. I wish it was bigger or they played that music on the lower level. There’s more hip hop clubs out in la anyway.

Nasty, nasty and a savage place. Over packed only two securities who don’t know what the hell they’re doing. All they know is how to kick drunk people out but in a situation where you are not drunk and they have people attacking others they don’t have a clue on what to do. Please run for your life and go away from here. Don’t know what happened to this place is dirty, the dance floor shakes when you dance and you will find the most ghetto savage people in here who don’t know how to act in public. It was the worst experience ever.

Always a fun place. After many visits here over the years not much has changed. Great music, great drinks and very spacious. But if you’re claustrophobic avoid the small dance floor with poor ventilation in the basement. I stick to the main floor or the one upstairs. This venue attracts a late 20’s to 40’s crowd. You’ll have no choice but to park in lots that are not safe nor secure. When exiting the club be very aware of your surroundings and walk in groups.

Once upon a time this club was classy and nice. The ladies wore dresses and men wore a suit and tie. Salsa was the main reason we went. This venue has changed completely since its hay days, now its complete ghetto galore. The girls are all hoochied out, wearing clothes 4 sizes too small, then the wallpaper guys are creepers jeepers. They stand around and just stare at you on the dance floor. The music is not so good, its less salsa and more top 40s. The floor gets very sticky from spilled drinks so if you like to glide on the floor forget it. Then the worst part was the awful cigarrete stench in the air, everywhere. The place needs better ventilation and ac, its so hot and stuffy. I looked like i just came out of the steam room after an hour, my make up melted off, hair was completely wet, dress all wet and damp, I was a hot mess. Its no longer the mayan it used to be.

I use to love the mayan, but now I don’t even want to go. The security guards abuse their authority. They hit my boyfriend for no reason about a month ago and we went in last night and they didn’t let him in. They used a dumb excuse. I’m going to post in every social media about this club!!! I dislike abuse of authority!!!

Ive gone on The mayan aka the roxberry aka a night at the roxberry. You know that movie right? This is the club! Lol always have had a good time the few times ive gone. First of all the place is huge. The basement is the hiphop room, could use some ventilation but the music is good and usually the crowd is too. Ive only gone on saturdays so idk about the other night. The middle room is reggaton and music of that matter, and main room plays a mixture of spanish and some english. Mostly a variety of spanish like cumbia and rock en español.

Was excited to attend a good Friday night at mayan until I was greeted by a old female at the door that had a horrible attitude and quickly pointed out that I wouldn’t be able to get in because she was so offended by the type of shoes I was wearing. She pointed me out with no restraint but was going to let my buddy go in that had the same shoes as I. Once she pointed at the rules I quickly responded ‘bye’ and turned around and my 2 buddies followed suit. It was a very slow night and that seemed to not hold the female back. She looks like a very old and depressed female that think she’s above and beyond then everybody around her. Glad I didn’t give that place my money and I hope other people were able to fill her criteria. Bye :] this place I do not recommend

Crowd is 30−40yrs old. $ 20 cover. Music is good if you like salsa/merengue. Small Hip hop dance floor. Drinks were bad! I feel like the bartenders don’t know what they’re pouring. Staff needs to work on their costumer service. They looked like they hated being there.

Highly recommend if you’re into salsa/latin music. Love this place! In the weekends they have an underground floor with great hip hop music. Very sexy! In the main floor they have live salsa bands and great latin music. The place is huge and its great to be able to go from one floor to another for different music. Each floor has a bar or more and the prices are reasonable. There are two ereas by the stairs where you can smoke or breath some air. If you arrive before 1030 pm entrance is 10 $(very fair) and the party is usually blasting already. afterwards it’s 20 $. Once we arrived at 10:34 and had to pay the 20 $.

This review is based on my first time there: The venue is kind of cool with all the floors and what not, but it was a long way to get to the basement which is the hip hop floor. I personally didn’t like it. They mostly mainstream hip hop from two years ago. The latest songs they played were Blasé, Saucin, and Trap queen… But if your there with a great group of friends then you will have fun regardless of the old music. One thing that really stood out to me was all the older people that were there. Most people looked like they were in there 30s or 40s. The guys are creeps! I literally had a guy stalking me the whole night. I’m not exaggerating at all. My friend and I snuck away from our group because we were bored of the same old songs the Dj was playing and no one notice us leave, but that guy followed me to were I was at. Girls expect having ugly old guys trying to dance and not approaching you with respect. I would say my over all night was«okay» Only thing that made it fun was my group of friends.

Ok. So aside from the fact that this place is wack… we were still having a good time with our friends. Until… it was 1:50am and we 2 full beers we had literally just bought… and they come try taking our drinks because they need to start cleaning up… so why sell us the beer in the first place! My husband tries to keep his beer but of course the power tripped top flight security come and slap the beer away. and ends up in my hair. Great… then we ask for the manager… but of course the rest of the security goblins come and make a big scene. We speak to the manager to ask for a refund. But of course we get no where… this place sucks!!!

Went here for my first time last night, on a Friday night, and I had a great time! I think the venue is gorgeous. The main floor is legit, as well as the dancers and the drinks. I will definitely be coming back — beautiful venue and beautiful people!

I tend to go here every once in a blue moon because a couple of friends like this place but this past Saturday any remaining«urges» to return were quickly diminished by the tall hostess at the front. The of lack of respect for my friends and I was utterly shameful. I doubt the owners care but I won’t be spending my money at this place ever again. As for the club, as others have stated, it gets too hot inside and they need to turn on their AC. The only reason I give the club a 2 star review is that some of their bartenders are cool peeps and make strong drinks.

Yesterday was the first time I’ve ever gone to this place and it was ok. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had gotten some sleep the day of. I get really cranky when I’m drunk and sleepy, so to anyone I was rude to I’m very sorry. There’s three rooms, all play a variety of different music, i think the bottom one is hip hop, then there’s like a spanish rock, and the main one is a variety. The restrooms weren’t dirty af but it felt gross going in. Dress code: I invited my friend to come but forgot to mention the dress code to him and they didn’t let him in. He was wearing skater shoes and a t-shirt but looked presentable so it sucked that they didn’t let him in. At first it seems like they really enforce it, but while inside the actual club some men had raggy clothes. They weren’t dressed up so I was really mad that my friend drove for no reason. People: There’s a lot of thirsty 30+ year olds. Correction. there’s a lot of thirsty people in general. I personally am not attracted to older men 30+ so I don’t like when they’re hitting on me especcially them coming up from behind and start dancing with me. Ew. Left and right men would try to come up on me trying to dance. Some called me a b… bc I didn’t want to dance with them but whatever. Security guy: So my friend told me that a security guy was keeping an eye on me because he thought I looked really drunk and that if I did anything bad he would kick me out. So, drunk me confronted him and apparently he was keeping an eye on me cause he just wanted to talk(I’m guessing my friend over exaggerated bc she tends to do that). Anyways he was definitely flirting and signaling me to follow him. He was cute btw. Giving it 3 stars cause people that come here are not my cup of tea. The venue is nice tho

Went here for a party in the Summer of 2015. Waited outside for a bit and upon getting in, I was shocked at how rundown and disgusting the venue was. At first, I thought perhaps it was a look they were going for. I don’t know much about the Mayan. Perhaps it was a great venue in the 70’s, but today it is just not up to standards. …And while I usually hate saying it, the crowd was particularly… strange. I’m not from LA, but everywhere else I went on this trip people were pleasant and even less smelly(though this is directed at several of the male customers– not the ladies). Not my kind of club at all.

This places sucks!!! Super hot, security is soo unprofessional. Went there for a birthday and bought drinks around 1:40 and 5 minutes later security asked us to either drink them or throw them away.. Sooo rude. if that is a protocol they must follow the bartender should have let us know we only had 5 minutes to drink them. Worst club in LA

I’m giving them a 3 star because it was really hot with the doors open on a summer night in the 90s. The bar also wouldn’t sell my friend a water because the bar closed 5 mins before. Really! The only reason I had fun was because my friends were there. The part I did enjoy was the upstairs lounge area except the part where the rude attendants told us to leave by flashing a light in our faces.

STILLLOVEIT!!! Attended the Mayan with my 2 girlfriends this past Friday. Great mix of music, ambience and bartenders. Free entry if you sign up on the guest list, if not only $ 12 @ the door if you make it after 10:30 p.m. Only prob, is the staff is not too quick on cleaning up spills on the floor. Need to be careful on not tripping over spilled drinks, crushed up cans, or straws when out there. Bathrooms, due tend to get super crowded and tend to have the stench of sweat :-( That has not changed… always been that way. ***OVERALL: Would definitely go again :-D

We used to come here a lot for salsa. People used to dress nice and were there to have fun dancing salsa. But last time we went it looked run down, the crowd wasn’t good and they didn’t even play salsa. Mostly top 40. We where so disappointed, we left early for another club.

Disgusting. I would never have stepped foot in this place if it weren’t chosen to celebrate my cousin’s Bachelorette. I read all the reviews beforehand so I knew what to expect and it certainly was as bad as I thought it would be: creepy guys standing along the perimeter of the dance floor waiting to swoop in on a group of girls(I got purposely pushed in the back by some dude that I said«no» to), girls in dresses that were about 4 sizes too small and heels they could barely walk in, smelly and dirty and just seedy overall. I don’t go out clubbing much as I don’t really care for it, but I’ve had decent times at other clubs I’ve been to. I like to dance to music I know — I don’t particularly like salsa or reggaeton music and that’s all they played on the main floor. The lower floor had hip-hop music, but it was way too small and cramped and I was afraid it would give the guys more of an incentive to cut in and dry hump — I mean dance — with our group. Towards the end of the evening, 3 fights broke out within 10 minutes of each other. Security got involved and the patrons continued to fight and even hit the security guards. I demanded that we leave because I no longer felt safe(actually, I don’t think I felt safe all evening…). There was about 6 cop cars in the street and a row of police officers standing in a line on the sidewalk. If this sounds like your scene, this place is perfect for you. If you like to feel safe and enjoy your evening, avoid this place at all costs.

I would have never come here on my own but my girl’s co-worker had her birthday here, so I came. When I first stepped inside I felt like I was entering a Disneyland or Universal Studios attraction. That initial feeling wore off quickly as I made my way to the dance floor that was filled with late 30’s-40’s creepers hovering around waiting to pounce on unsuspecting women. Among the creepers was one man who appeared to have dabbled in some ecstasy that evening. Soaked in his own sweat as if he had just emerged from the non-existent swimming pool at the Mayan, the man danced for at least an hour straight busting moves that I would have imagined are unique to those of a person having stuck their fingers in an electrical socket. It was truly a sight to behold and I just wish my phone hadn’t died that evening so that I could share the performance here. On the second floor of the Mayan they play Bachata and other Latin music. Much to my dismay there was a lot more humping going on on the second floor than there was dancing. But then again it was a Friday night and I’m sure everyone had had a long week, hence the humping. The creeper level at the Mayan hits every notch on the creeper spectrum. On the first floor you have your level 1’s(the ones that keep their distance, drink in hand admiring from afar) up to level 3’s(the ones that have a had a couple drinks and have ventured out to the edges of the dance floor to get a better look). But on the second floor is where you find levels 5 – 10. Unfortunately we encountered a level 10. My girlfriend, her two friends and my cousin were all dancing awkwardly together when a wild pack of level 10’s intruded on our personal space. One guy crossed his arms, cocked his head to the side and gave my girlfriend the super creepy look. You know the one that screams«we have two options: I’m gonna rape you here or outside, your choice». His first attempt at getting noticed went ignored but once he repositioned himself and got closer I turned around, looked directly at him to passively let him know to chill out. When he didn’t acknowledge me I grabbed him by the arms and looked him directly in the eyes and he got startled and moved on to another target. I’m willing to bet that at least 50 other people had a similar experience with a creeper here that night. You’ve been warned!

This venue itself is very nice. Beautiful architecture and design, several dance floors offer a variety of music, mostly latin. The main floor has the largest dance floor with a live performance of stage, the music there is mainly salsa. Drinks are small and overpriced as usual, $ 12 for a Jamison & ginger. As for the club on a Saturday night, it’s raunchy. People were basically having sex with their clothes on, they weren’t dancing. I agree with many reviews on Unilocal about a lot of creepers just standing around waiting to swoop in some drunk girl. The top floor balcony was my favorite area, it had tons of seating with pillows that allowed you to relax, sip some drinks, and watch all the nasty dancers below. I would suggest making a guest list ahead of time. Call the Mayan guest services because email doesn’t seem to get you anywhere, it allows up to 8 guests to get in without cover charge. Dress code is enforced for some it seems, guys seemed to waltz right in wearing whatever they thought looked decent, however if you’re not a regular, dress to impress.

I have seen two concerts here and I wish more people I want to see would play at the Mayan. I love love love(yeah 3x love) this place. Their is not a bad seat/standing area in the house. I just went and saw Bad Religion crush a show here and man did it not disappoint. The décor of the Mayan is so well down and the lay out from the upstairs to the GA floor is fantastic. I don’t come here for the club scene. I come for kick ass concerts where you can always find a great spot to see the stage and a place that puts out killer sound. Drinks are gonna be your average LA club/venue price. So expect to pay $ 20.00 bucks for a couple drinks. But still I just expect that from a lot of concert venues, it comes with the territory. Now this place could use a few more restrooms but I am not going to let that tarnish the review. Hopefully more people I like end up playing at the Mayan. CHEERS!!!

Went to see the Gas Lamp Killer & Friends there last weekend. Embarrassed to say that in as a third generation Angeleno, I’ve never been. I guess maybe it’s not my fault. Blame it on my favorite bands, D.J.‘s and other assorted performance artists who neglected to perform at this 1920’s Mayan revival of the Aztecs in the concrete jungle. The place is spacious, the acoustics are splendido and the balcony has benches instead of chairs. I approve of this. Much more community oriented and if it’s not crowded, you can spread out and get comfortable. Further for your enjoyment, there are bars all over the place. Never had to wait for a drink; not once. The bartenders pour some potent drinks. I will admit that I don’t hold my liquor like I once could in my famous college days, but it took me an hour to drink my Cadillac Margarita. My only feedback was that while we had the Eventbrite app and therefore had our tickets electronically on the app., the promoter/theater(not sure who was at fault here) had no ability to scan my ticket. I had to wait in line, to… ahem… look my name up on a piece of paper. …and this was, by the way at a electronic dub music concert. Definitely a favorite venue…

This is one of the biggest clubs I’ve seen in LA. It’s also… different from your standard club in a lot of ways, some good and others bad. The Good: Three levels, each with a different type of music(rap/hip hop on level 1, Salsa/Spanish music on level 2, and techno/electronica on level 3) ensures that there is a place for anyone, no matter your tastes. The place is also beautifully decorated, with intricate Mayan motifs adorning the walls. Cover is also free if you get in before 10:30 and you put your name on the list(you can put your name on the list on the club’s website). Drinks are pricey, but not Vegas pricey. I paid $ 18 for 2 mixed drinks. There are plenty of seats for sitting on the main floor, so your feet won’t be killing you by the end of the night. Also, there are a couple parking lots next door to this club, so parking is easy. The Bad: It is oppressively hot in this club — it clearly suffers from very poor ventilation. Despite having air conditioners on full blast, the place was very hot everywhere except for the areas immediately next to the AC units. By 10 pm or 10:30, the place was still pretty empty on a Saturday night. The fact that this place is so large makes it hard to make it feel full. The Spanish dancing floor clearly stole the show, with the other two floors being completely empty while the Spanish floor had some sort of crowd develop. Overall, if you’re into Spanish dance, you may love this place, but for every other type of dance, expect empty dance floors. The Ugly: Just… don’t come looking here for super models. There are a lot of older people here, like 40+. And a lot of people are a bit on the bigger side. But everyone needs a good place to dance and let loose. If you can get over the crowd, and you love Spanish music/salsa, this can be a really fun place.
