The food was alright but it’s no where near the full glory of the original Chego location. Instead of the perfectly blended bowls you get at the original location, you merely get plain white rice with some sauces dumped on and a few toppings sprinkled over that. Not the same level of flavor or quality, overall just very disappointing.

Like his other locations and his other restaurants, Roy Choi’s food never disappoints and for Downtowners you can get it quickly to go for lunch or dinner. Straightforward menu of rice bowls a la bibimbap that have varying degrees of spiciness to them. Plus you can grab a healthy drink inside Whole Foods or whatever else your heart desires to compliment your meal. Eat outside on the patio or sidewalk tables or take it back to the office or loft. May seem pricey at $ 12 per bowl but it’s the perfect sized meal and great food!

I’m a huge Chego fan ever since they opened in Palms but the one in Whole foods doesn’t cut it. Yes it’s more convenient to have it in downtown instead of having to drive to Chinatown but for what’s served here I’ll gladly drive the few miles farther. The beef, chicken, tofu and pork are all just sitting there and ready to be scooped on rice. It doesn’t look nearly as appetizing. Also, I didn’t the perfectly runny egg that I’m used to getting at the brick and mortar Chego because its sitting out on a steam table or something so it was just a normal egg.

I like Chego well enough, the original Culver City location, the current Chinatown location. But inside Whole Foods dtla, this is not where you want to get your Chego on. Everything is cooked to a mush and plopped into your bowl. The eggs are floppy. I actually gagged eating this.

The Chinatown original restaurant is 10x better. Like everyone said its just scoop rice meat and egg from containers. Egg takes 2 min to fry! I really hope they read the reviews and make adjustments as this could be really good and like the Chinatown version. Roy also knows about the practices here as he was there the first 2 days when it opened.

I love the original Chego and food truck locations but felt this location in Whole Foods was sub par. Everything was premade and scooped into a bowl, similar to Chipotle. The fried egg’s yolk had hardened under the heat lamp, which gave it a strange texture. The rice was barely warm. Meh.

Very heavy and greasy. Everything is pre-cooked so it’s kinda like an Asian Chipotle. I am a huge fan of Roy Choi and really wanted to love this place but I just could not. The kicker for me was the pre-cooked eggs — I’m a huge fan of runny creamy yolks but the eggs are sitting out for so long that the yolk is mostly cooked through so that it doesn’t run when you burst it. I mean, if I’m ever utterly desperate for something resembling Korean food, I might drop by but the food is just ok and you end up feeling like jabba the hut after you finish a bowl, so I can’t really recommend it.

I second everything Ian R. said. I was pretty excited to have a Chego in walking distance, but this one really disappoints. I had the same thought as Ian, that Roy Choi would be appalled at what this Chego is producing. It’s nowhere near the quality that one expects from an establishment tied to his name. In retrospect, seeing the bins filled with the pre-cooked ingredients just sitting there should have been a warning sign. Even worse would probably be the pre-made eggs… Eggs should definitely be freshly cooked, especially at a place like Whole Foods. The ingredients looked sadder than Panda Express or Chipotle — they had clearly been sitting out for awhile. But the descriptions of the bowls sounded promising so we decided to try it anyway. We ordered one Leafy T(tofu bowl), a Sour Cream Hen House(chicken bowl) and Ooey Gooey Fries. The chicken bowl in particular was disappointing — I could barely find/taste any chicken. Both bowls lacked any real flavors, certainly not what the menu would make you believe. The fries were excessively overloaded with the sour cream sambal(take a look at pics from the Chinatown location and then multiply the amount of sour cream by 3 or 4), which is a shame because the fries themselves were pretty good. In the end, we finished barely half of each bowl and took the rest home, hoping that if we added our own meat we might be able to salvage them(at $ 12/bowl it was a bit too pricey to just throw out…). The fries we ended up leaving by a trash can in hopes that at least a homeless person might enjoy them.

I’ve been to this Chego in the Whole Foods Market a couple of times now and I’ve got to say, it never fails. It’s an order & go style for shoppers in the market, but I see them constantly cooking to replenish their food. So I know it’s fresh! Even though this Chego isn’t exactly like the Chinatown Chego location. I know this Chego in the Whole Foods market has adjusted some of its dishes to use all-natural organic non-gmo foods, & that makes it even beeeetter for you(& your bod!!) So yay Chego Whole Foods Market. Staying true to using«whole» foods in a big way. Yum!

Fancy teriyaki. Meh. Simply too much going and no clean flavors throughout other than the fresh basil leaves. It lacks the nuance they strive for. No thank you. Ohh and what’s up with fried eggs sitting on the steam tray? It should be fried to order in order to add to the umami experience they think they’re achieving.

Came here since the one in Chinatown is closed on Mondays. Parking is free for 90 minutes which is a huge plus and rarity in downtown LA. The food is the same quality and taste just as good as the other location but pricier, although my Chubby Pork Belly Bowl was too chubby. I’ve had it with a little more meat on the cut pieces. It’s ok, still a fan.

Just tried their pork dish. Gave up on it after a few bites For $ 12 I was expecting a lot more. There were just bits of pork fats that smelled and they served it with every spice possible. Never going back here. Whole Foods, please get rid of them.

Picked up the beef bowl while shopping and took it home for a late lunch. All I have to say is my man Mr. Choi KNOWS what the F he’s doing. I’m not worthy!

This a is great addition to the DTLA Whole Foods. There’s a couple of veggie options; seasoned grilled veggie, a tofu bowl, and the fries. In my option, get the fries they’re delicious. My coworkers also loved the pork belly bowl!

Not to hate but Min S. was either waaaay too excited about WholeFoods to care about the quality of the food or he/she has never been to the OG Chego in chinatown. This place sucks. Roy Choi would be so ashamed. Everything is pre-made and they literally scoop the pre-cooked pork belly/chicken/leafy t ingredients from a bin into a bowl filled with rice. Plus the freaking egg they put on top of the rice is pre-fried! It just sits there all cooked along with four other«egg pattys» just waiting to be chosen. Think Panda Express but much worse. While the ooeygooey fries were okay(probably because they were made fresh), the bowls we got were so bad and I left extremely disappointed. While I’m certainly not expecting some Gordon Ramsey shit, for $ 12 the least you could do is fry my egg fresh. All I can say to WholeFoods/the manager of this place: do it right or don’t do it all.

The new Chego! located inside the brand new Whole Foods in DTLA offers a variety of egg + rice bowls awesome for lunch or dinner! Order and pick up at their station on the right side of the store, wait for your food, take it to check out in the front of the store, pay, and devour. I shared a chicken bowl(forgot the name but they have one chicken bowl) and the«Leafy T» bowl which has no meat. Also got a side of the seasonal veggies which happened to be some juicy bok choi. Everything tasted amazing! Their dishes pack a lot of flavor and leaves your tastes buds satisfied. Wish I didn’t work on the other side of downtown so I can walk here for lunch! They do have 90 min free underground parking. Can’t hide my excitement for this Whole Foods in general…
