California New York Express Moving

I used this company to move from NYC to San Diego County… my experience was top notch… from the initial estimate through packing and final delivery. Everyone I dealt with was professional and friendly, giving me the sense that I was in good hands. The price was totally reasonable. They delivered on time and every step was done very efficiently. I would highly recommend using this company for your move.

I knew right away there was something different about this company.
FIrst of all, they took the time to ask me questions (David Simon I believe) about my bed and other items, the other companies just said, «sure no problem» across the board.
Anytime I hear the words, «no problem» the hair on the back of my neck stands up.
There is nothing to be casual about in a cross country move and Cal NY Express was all business literally from start to finish.
The horror stories online were enough to keep me at bay for almost 2 months but every time I think about my experience with them I feel very lucky to have bypassed all the casual «no problem just give us a call» people who couldn’t be bothered.
First of all, everything right down to my dog kennel and portable heater were completely wrapped secure, I have several photos and we went down the line and counted every item once I got to new york and every damn thing was wrapped far beyond my own expectations.
They let me know the entire time where the truck was throughout the move and they even beat me there and stored everything until I arrived.
I have to say what was initially a very scary prospect turned out much differently than I had anticipated.
I really appreciate everything they did for me.

Very well priced. Helpful and responsive. But that is about it.
They sold the service as CA to NY and ‘we don’t go around the country picking up other loads so we are faster and better’. Not true. I received email notifications throughout the truck’s route and these emails contradicted their sales pitch.
I would suggest taking out other insurance as the coverage they offer is very limited. The packers managed to damage the following: mid century dining room table, consul (they actually put packing tape on the cabinet so the finish came off), cracked 2 crystal lamps and chipped a Saarinen stool.

Amazing experience from beginning to end. The customer service was great from my initial phone call to the very last piece of furniture being delivered. The staff was courteous, understandable and flexible within my time frame. They even managed to deliver my stuff a week earlier than expected, along with the best price compared to other movers I called. I would high recommend to anyone moving between the East and West coasts!

This was my second cross country move and it was a thousand times better than my first thanks to California New York Express. They did a great job on both ends of the move. The movers were fast and efficient and the customer service reps were all incredibly helpful. I highly recommend them.

My products were delivered damaged and the movers stole all of our alcohol (we were left pieces of the boxes) in the process. I paid for incremental insurance but yet they refuse to cover any of my items. I would not and will not be recommending them to anyone moving forward. I am not one to give bad reviews but since they are not helping me resolve my issues, I want to warn others that are considering using them.

Very straight forward and simple. The added 1 month free storage allowed me to get set up in NYC without the worry of having to rush to find a place for my things. I recommend this company to anyone moving from the West Coast to NYC, like me.

Great service. I recently did a NY to LA move and they got all my shipment here within a week. All my stuff came back perfectly. I highly recommend them.

Moved cross-​country from LA to NYC with this co. They broke quite a few things even furniture they wrapped in blankets themselves. Stuff that was really well packed will still get broken. Why? From the damage we’ve seen it looks like the loaders/​unloaders throw boxes and furniture across a room or the back of the truck really hard and onto hard surfaces! Total damage is around $ 500. It seems they load-​unload your stuff 6 times and the people they work with don’t really give a rat’s @ss about your personal belongings even if it says FRAGILE in 6 foot letters across the box.
Everyone must know that movers only offer very basic insurance which is $ 6 /​pound — ludicrous amount for a flat TV for example that costs nearly $ 1K. Hence, the problem is one is forced to get «movers insurance» independently from the moving co. which will run you $ 400 – 500 if you want an affordable one and with a high deductible of around $ 1,000. This means that if anything is damaged you’ll have to go to the 3^rd party insurance co. first to claim any damage. If they dent, chip, crack, and bang around your stuff and brake things on average your damage is less than $ 1,000 unless they break some really expensive item. What this means is that you’re basically stuck between a rock and a hard place and there is ultimately no recourse and you will be stuck with your damages. This is what happened to us and we had to replace broken furniture to the tune of hundreds of dollars.

Absolutely great. We moved from Chelsea in Manhattan to the Bay Area. Both pickup and drop off crews were incredibly professional and lightning fast. We had 60 items total, including several guitars, and not one single item was damaged. Very impressive.
My only recommendation would be for them to work on their web site inventory function. There were several things I placed under the «notes» sections of the site that didn’t get through. But in the end everything was taken care of promptly and our move was even several hundred dollars LOWER than our estimate.
After dealing with some absolutely horrific movers, especially in NYC, I am blown away by how stress free this process was. I could not recommend them highly enough.

These guys are incredible! I moved from LA to Brooklyn while already in BK and was amazed at how flexible and easy going my contact was in the midst of my moving craziness. Great customer service, fast, painless service. Only 1 minorly dented item out of 20… impressive odds.

I will write this review in two stages — pick up and deliver. Right now as of 9÷20÷15, I am in the pick up phase. I secured this moving company in less than a week out to move my small storage unit from Marina del Rey, to NYC (Manhattan). The sales process was efficient and professional. I had to pay a $ 150 to secure the job. I did. The quote that they gave me was actually a little higher than what I finally received (that’s great).
On pick-​up day, they gave me a pick-​up window of 1pm-​4pm. The movers called me at approx 11am, saying they were an hour out. Unfortunately, they had to wait for me until 12:30pm because I was out and about. The lead guy, Leo was awesome. He was so patient and professional and friendly. He had two other nice guys with them so they very quick. In less than an hour, they had my storage unit loaded on their truck and we processed the 2^nd payment (50% of the total remaining payment after security deposit). I was gratefully that they could break up these payments. The estimate I received was about $ 100 lower than what I was originally quoted — that tells a lot about their integrity.
So…now my stuff will sit somewhere in LA for about 30 days while I head east to secure a place to live. From there, it will take two weeks to deliver it… I will continue my review after that has occurred!!! I’m hoping I can keep them at 5 stars!!!
UPDATE: Eerything went really smooth with the movers. I would recommend this company!

I would absolutely recommend California New York Express. From the on-​site estimate to the crews they sent on both ends, these guys were professional and took extra steps to protect my belongings. Moving can be incredibly stressful but I felt like I was in good hands. The delivery on the Connecticut end took longer than I had hoped but overall, top-​notch service. Thank you!

Prior to the pickup:
Originally we were really impressed. They had someone come to our house to assess the volume and give us an accurate quote. They arranged to pick up our belongings 3 – 4 days later and offered free storage until we find a place in NY.
Pickup:
The people they sent were friendly. They were stone though (strong smell of weed). The process was quite fast and they seem to know what they were doing.
We had one expensive desk that was a bit fragile so we asked for their advice: should we sell it there in San Francisco or was it safe to take it with us? We asked them what they would do if it was their desk. They said we should take it and they would take extra-​care of it.
Delivery:
They gave us a 9am-​1pm window and said someone will be in touch 30−60mn prior to their arrival so that we can make sure we’ll be home. They did not call. They just showed us at 12:30pm. On the bright side: Everything was there.
BUT:
— my desk was destroyed — 2 out of 4 legs were not attached to the desk anymore. The screws were all distorted.
— some boxes were severely hit as well
The delivery person assured us that since they broke the desk and did not pack it as they should to prevent any damage, they will send a «repair guy» on the next monday at the latest.
After:
We reached out to the company. Their answer: they don’t have a repair guy. They can pay us $ 0.6/pound/item if we send them a letter written by a notary
OUTCOME: ($ 900 desk + $ 200/​hr for notary) — $ 0.6/pound
My issue with them is TRUST. For me to want to work with a company the key factor is trust. The first person we were in touch with seemed to be trustworthy.
The pickup guys who told us they would pack our desk very well to make sure it arrives in a good state — obviously were not. They did nothing. It is standard procedure for movers to remove the legs of any table/​desk. They did not. They just put a cover over it. And for the desk to be that destroyed, they probably put other things on top.
The delivery guy was probably trying to help but he told us about a «repair guy» that either does not exist or that the company is refusing to send to us.
The company itself — nobody even apologized. All they said is that we had to go to a notary to file a complain to get a $ 3 (for a desk worth 300 times that)
All in all. We are very disappointed and we would not recommend.
If you’re curious, here’s how my desk arrived:

Nice people to work with, very reasonable rates, they came promptly to move me out in NY and I didn’t wait terribly long on the other end — although they notified me that my things were in L.A. on a Tuesday and I didn’t get them until Saturday. I guess they were busy and couldn’t schedule delivery.
BUT — my issue with them was that they CLEARLY were rough on my things. I had a really nice acoustic guitar packed securely in a hard case — somehow the case was pierced badly on one end and the guitar headstock broken in two. It would take serious force to cause the damage that it did — this was NOT casual wear and tear. My friend and I wondered it the truck ran over it at some point — that’s what we’re talking about here.
Everything I packed came through with no problem. Everything the company packed — big framed pictures/​posters and my 27″ apple display — suffered scratches or damage of some kind. My issue is that they very clearly were just not careful with my belongings, which really sucks.
So if you use them — pack EVERYTHING yourself, and buy insurance.

I cannot recommend this company enough. Put simply, their prices, service, and expertise were nothing short of amazing.
First, their prices. I called many places over the course of a half-​year looking for a competitive price to move an apartment’s worth of «junk» from California to Connecticut. California NY Express’s prices were the cheapest by a mile. While I did not have enough stuff to «fill up» the amount of space allotted for the minimum charge, their price was STILL lower than anybody else’s.
Second, their service. On both coasts, the people who packed my things were quick, timely and polite. I was impressed with how low maintenance they were and how they did not «beg» or require a tip (even though I gave them one). I would go with California NY Express for this alone.
Finally, their expertise. They know moving. They give an accurate window of time for both pickup and drop off, and alert you to any changes well in advance.
I could not ask for more in a moving company, and will definitely use them on my trip back to California next year.

My belongings arrived undamaged which I’m grateful for. However I’m only giving this company 3 stars due to the timeframe it took for me to get my belongings and a few annoyances I experienced.
My belongings were packed on 10÷08÷14. According to the contract they have 15 calendar days to ship my belongings to its destination. I get it. However my belongings didn’t leave California until 10÷15÷14 a week later. I was under the impression that my belongings would ship out between 24 – 48 hours. The delay was due to the fact that CA Express will not transport your belongings until the truck is full. Also they have a limited amount of trucks so that also can cause additional delays. I found out this is pretty standard but what annoyed me is that they didn’t make that clear during the estimation. Speaking of the estimate, I had questions for their representative named Elizabeth. She didn’t bother to email me back. I had to call and ended up dealing with a guy named Erik who was very helpful.
My other issue is that the movers put inaccurate information about the condition of my furniture. Most of my furniture came from West Elm or Crate and Barrel and was approximately two years old. I don’t have kids or throw wild parties so all of my belongings were in great condition. I take very good care of my stuff however the movers put down my belongings were warn or damaged. At the time I asked the foreman why he was putting inaccurate information about the condition of my furniture and he said he was required to do so based on company policy. That was a lie since there was an option to leave the status blank of the furniture was in used but good condition. I had to call the company and made them send an addendum just in case my stuff was damaged during transportation.
Don’t depend on the estimation. Add another 500 – 600 dollars to be on the safe side. They will charge you supplies such as blankets, tape, any other other tools. If your apartment is more than 100 ft from the truck, they will add additional charges. Other than that they did a decent job and may consider them in the future now that I know what I’m dealing with.
