Specialties
Café NELA is North East Los Angeles’s home for Punk, Jazz, Hard Rock, and Experimental Music. We specialize in local old school punk bands but we also have new bands and bands from all over the world.
We are a bar serving beer, cider, and soft drinks so we are twenty one and over.
History
Established in 2013.
In 2013 Dave Travis took over a failing bar down the hill from his house. He fixed it up and began booking bands. Since Dave Travis is an old punk he books a lot of old punk bands that he knows from playing in bands like Carnage Asada and doing sound and video for bands since the 1980s.
In Café NELAs first year of existence they have performers from all over the world including Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, England, France, and the United States.
Café NELA has been the place for first and last performances. We have featured lots of old school acts such as The Gears, The Controllers, Davey Allan and the Arrows, Haunted Garage, Mike Watt, Don Preston, and Saccharine Trust.
Café NELA helps the community by doing lots of benefits and memorials, by employing people, and by giving a home for outsider music and outsiders in North East Los Angeles.

Dave Travis was born in Hollywood during the Summer of Love. When he was fourteen years old his life changed when he saw X play at the Whiskey after his first day of high school. He found a place where he belonged and became more and more involved in the LA punk scene. He started videotaping punk shows when he was 15 in 1983 and has been doing it ever since. In the 90’s he worked doing sound and editing on projects such as 1991 the Year Punk Broke, and Ready for PreSchool. Dave spent most of the first decade of the 21st Century teaching History and Economics in South Central Los Angeles. Dave later returned to video and began editing his old footage. In 2010 he released the documentary A History Lesson Part 1 punk rock in Los Angeles in 1984. A History Lesson screened accross the United States as well as in Canada and Japan. It was released on DVD in Europe and North America distributed by MVD. A History Lesson stars Redd Kross, the Meat Puppets, the Minutemen and Twisted Roots. In 201
