Should you choose this man keep your expectations low. As he would listen to me speak of my issues he would make very random assessments of my personality and behavior, none of which was helpful to me. He does not write anything down during sessions so be prepared to start all over again at the next visit, I found this to be very annoying and felt as though he was milking the clock. I also felt as though he was judging me and no, I am not projecting. Parking is very tight. The inside of the building smells like a damp basement. Me thinks not, there has got to be better care available.

Although my time with Dr. TePaske was brief, his great insight, warmth, and understanding helped me to clarify issues I was struggling with. He is an excelent therapist and a true expert in Jungian analysis.

Dr. Tepaske is a very educated and well-read man; a wealth of knowledge and thought-provoking quotes will help you find insight into your own thoughts and behavior. FYI, he is a Jungian psychotherapist, and places a great emphasis on dreams. During our sessions, his demeanor was inconsistent: it varied from mildly compassionate, to visibly agitated. Don’t expect much guidance from this doctor: frequent requests for clarification of his commentary and abstract concepts were met with irritation and dismissiveness. In our last session, the doctor stopped me mid-question and said he «didn’t need to be made to feel like [he’s] engaged in an impossible task.» He didn’t need me «sitting there, asking question after question and looking puzzled.» I can’t imagine making the patient feel untreatable has ever proved a constructive treatment strategy. He went on to say that his time is very valuable and my hang-ups are all on me and that I should find a way to move past them. I thought that’s what therapy was for?

As a psychotherapist, I’m a big believer in psychotherapy. Go figure, right? Hence, my lack of embarassment about posting a review for a psychotherapist in private practice. It’s gonna be me someday… ain’t nothing wrong with that. I basically moved to LA against my will, wasn’t able to renew a one-year contract I had in my beloved Bay Area because of their budget cuts, and had no choice but to start over. Again. Fourth year in a row, because of the way my academic program runs. So I’m in a new city… again… had to give up my dream job to move here… and lots of friends… and the few people I knew in LA are busy, so my social life took a major hit. Just not the ideal circumstances in life… I wasn’t falling apart or anything, but again, I’m a psychologist myself, believe in the process, and thought I’d partake in some preventative medicine. Dr. Tepaske was on my insurance panel, right down the street, and his bio seemed a fit for me. From day one, respected and liked the man. He’s professional yet warm, steers sessions without my having to relinquish control of the topics, and has a better memory than I for details of past sessions. Definitely helped me to stay grounded as I settled into life in LA. Would highly recommend for anyone whose challenges are a good match for his clinical skills.
