I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while! First of all, if you’re not careful, you might miss the bar all together. I couldn’t see a visible sign, just a neon light that looked like a mug of beer. The whole front of the store is glass and folds open, kind of like a garage door but sideways… If that makes sense. I went for the boozy snow cone. I wish it was a bit sweeter or had more of the blackberry in it. I think the added sweetness would make it more of a snow cone rather than champagne and a little blackberry with shaved ice. I didn’t try the michelada but the paleta was delicious and not what I was expecting. It was amazing, I loved the flavor with a tang of lime! So good!!! Overall, I’d probably just go back for the paleta. Fun experience!

Definitely a spot to take your out of town friends. My girlfriend suggested we take our friends visiting from Sacramento to block party. Love the open air concept especially when it’s nice outside. You grab a drink at the bar(with a Popsicle on top because duh), play wii or shuffleboard(we did both lol) and just relax like it’s your own backyard. Just be courteous when playing shuffleboard, the group in front of us took foreverrrrr. I think 15 – 20 mins should be ok, give other people a turn.

Block Party is a fun place to hang out and good drinks. They have several fridges that are stockpiled with canned and bottled beer. The selection is good. They also have beers on tap. That selection is good too and almost all from California. For non-beer drinkers, there is also a good selection of red, white, and pink wines. They let you bring your own food in. Otherwise, the only food around is pricey hot dogs. They have 2 fun cocktails: beer cocktails and snowcone cocktails. I’ve tried their miche-guevara, which like almost like a michelada, but served with a paleta, which sometimes rotates flavors. I also had their Highland punch, which was tasty and fruity. The back patio is nice. There’s a giant shuffleboard and a Wii console. There’s also lots of patio tables with umbrellas and heat lamps, depending on if it’s hot/cold.

With expensive small pours and warm white wine it’s unfortunate that this bar never really met my expectations. I still like their outdoor area and I guess the plus is that it’s never really crowded here.

Yaaaasss. Came in tonight with dinner from Taco Fix(which you should also try) and ordered micheladas but instead of the jerky, the bartender let us have it with the paleta. Would always recommend coming here. I love just stopping by for a drink. It’s usually empty earlier in the night so it’s cool to catch up with friends.

I am so glad that the original place we wanted to go to was super crowded or else I wouldn’t have stumbled across this place! Very hipster-looking and the vibes are really chill. The bartenders are nice and friendly. Always attending to their guests, which I appreciate because sometimes even when it’s crowded they make sure to take your order and whatnot. The outside is beautiful! It is covered with lights and there is outside seating as well. There is a shuffleboard and a wii to play with on a projector. Super fun! Get the michiguevera if you loooove popsicles and beer! The rim is covered with, what tastes like tajin. Yum yum yum! The blackberry margarita is a top seller ! Everyone that comes by at the bar orders it. I will definitely be back! Probably try one of their beers!

Such a cool hipster-ish type of bar, the beers are nice and the outdoor patio is very nice. Cool ambiance, the place looks well arranged and it connects to a gallery which is a plus!

What a cute bar. Yeah it is cute! Very hipster-ish. The bartenders are awesome and friendly. Always asking if we need anything, even if it’s busy. The place looks clean and even the outside. Very backyard looking. With a big Wi Game Center and a shuffle board. The back also has bench lunch table sitting. With heat lamps. They also have a area where you can sit in a semi circle behind the art gallery. The drink are beer on tap or in the fridge and wine. They do serve appetizer which we didn’t get. But I saw one was chicken type and the other was a popper type looks good. I ordered the Michelada regular one with a beef jerky($ 9.) no popsicle. That was my first ever and it was flavorful. I tried the chocolate draft stout not bad but not into the chocolate beer type. We also got the island mango fruity beer drink in a can which was good. And other beers. I’m not a beer person so I can’t tell you what we got. But all were good.

Let’s be real. Is it hipstery? Yes. Did they play Lana del Rey while I was there? Once. BUT this place is a real gem in the neighborhood. The drinks are great, the people are nice and the crowd is chill. I love the fun neon lighting inside and the outdoor patio area complete with lights, heaters, and picnic tables — really feels like a summer backyard party, you can even play wii sports and shuffleboard(which apparently some people know how to play). It’s a great place to grab a drink after a long work day and catch up with friends. I haven’t been on the weekends, but I bet that’s a good time too. Plus, parking is so easy in hp!

I love everything about this place. The drink selection is pretty awesome… beer, wine and champagne. If they served liquor it would be perfect. The set up is clean, airy and open. There’s plenty of space and seating for groups. The bartenders are incredibly friendly and the games are a great addition. It’s pretty chill during the week. Haven’t been on the weekend yet, but I imagine it can get pretty busy.

Ain’t no party like a Block Party party cause a Block Party party don’t stop! Beers & snowcones only… & some hot dogs out back. Obnoxious on the weekends but mad chill during the week so convince your lil honey to meet up on a Tuesday. Try the michelada which happens to come with a paleta. All of a sudden everybody loves paletas. All of a sudden!!! But el paletero can’t get no play. Explain that, homeboy! Your Homegirl, Violy

My cousin and I were doing some Sunday shopping and strolled by this Gem! Literally, the large white walls and open space as you walk by is so inviting! All the bartenders were so very attentive and friendly! The gal who first helped us asked if we wanted snow cones. I wondered, snow cones?! She pointed them out on their menu and suggested the Highland Punch which contained champagne! It was so yummy! My cousin and I stayed for about two hours chit chatting and enjoying the spot. I had to use the restroom and notice they have a huge back area which you can play Wii and ski ball. Also there are long picnic tables with heaters around! This is such a fun, cute spot and I will be coming back very soon!

Block Party is an unabashedly hip bar where the branding is as important as the drinks, and that’s just fine with me! The space is open to the street, giving it an indoor-outdoor feel, and there’s also a patio in the back with a Wii and shuffleboard. If that wasn’t twee enough, they also serve an all-California selection of draft beer, as well as snow cone/shaved ice cocktails which come in a glass and are surprisingly boozy. Overall, a super-cute place!

The vibe about this bar — house party/backyard BBQ feel. It’s super relaxed the type of spot you’d come to if you’re feeling worn out from the work week and want a drink to just chill on. Don’t come here if you’re looking to get ratchet for the night. Haha They have a list of really beers, but only beer :/they even had the sculpin grapefruit. Yum. When you first walk in you’ll immediately run into the bar with red neon lights that glows the room, then you can walk down a hallway that leads to the outside back area. They have wii bowling up on the wall by projector you can play, a huge shuffle board, or just chill at one of many tables with umbrellas. At night they do have heat lamps(thank god!) by the tables. We swarmed around those heat lamps like mosquitos to light. To be honest our stay at the bar was pretty brief. It was too relaxed for the most of us, I was starting to fall asleep(that might just be because I’m a grandma). Nonetheless a really cute hipster scene. There was one party that had reserved area in the back for a birthday. Which might be a good call since it’s really calm and you can actually have conversations when you meet up with all your friends. Oh they also seemed to have a hotdog bar in the back although I’m not sure how their whole system worked cause there was no staff to help, maybe you order at the bar?

So this bar had the Almanac Gose on tap. Been wanting it since it was tapped out at Eight Bar in Dtla. So from the moment I walked in and saw the beer list I was having a dapper time. They have a giant shuffle board game in the back, food, cute cocktails, and a lot of room to mosey around. The crowd was chill and everyone was having a good time. I would definitely recommend this place!

I came here the other night with some peeps. It was okay. The bar and space itself are really nice. They have a huge beer selection. Outback there is a large wooden deck, with a projector playing sports, or Nintendo Wii(you can get drunk and play) on the wall. The area is covered with oicnice benches, each with an umbrella for sun and a heater for when the sun ain’t up. There’s also a big fireplace at the back of the deck. The vast majority of the outdoor space is dedicated to shuffle board? Or something really hipstery. Bacchi ball? I’m not trying to be ridiculous, I saw it but I don’t know what it’s called. Anyway I get it, I get what they’re going for. Just isn’t exactly my cup of booze. Service was good tho.

This was our first time here, not too crowded for a Friday night. They have a good selection of beers on tap and they also have a good selection of bottled beers. They have a nice sized patio in the back, which would be great during the summer time to go along with their snowcone cocktails! Bartenders are friendly and helpful and the restrooms are clean. Only downside is that they don’t offer happy hour… yet.

Fun place, finally stopped by last Saturday night after work. Love that new bars like this are opening in Highland Park– it’s very needed! I can see this place being really fun during the summer because they have a great open patio with seating. It was Angeleno style chilly so even with the heat lamps, it was quite cold. I loved the wood-burning fireplace they also have in the back behind the gigantic shuffleboard(although that made it dangerous as well since people almost jabbed us in the face as they were swinging away). Needless to say my friends and I pretty much hogged the fireplace– it kept us toasty! Didn’t really get to try a lot on their drink menu, but didn’t really need to since I ordered the Mi-Che-Guevuerra(sp?) — obviously it’s a michelada with a popsicle on top– even though I was freezing while drinking it, it was totally worth it. They also have a hot dog bar outside– didn’t get to try any of them either because I came after dinner. Next time! Would love to head back once it gets warmer and try some more drinks!

It was nice to know that the Block Party finally opened at Highland Park! My boyfriend and I decided to check the place out after our ramen dinner on Thursday night. Since street parking was too full, we had to park at the parking lot behind the Block Party and pay at the meter. Hint: the street parking is FREE after 8PM. Fortunately, an alley way was nearby so we did not have to go all the way around the block to get to the Block Party. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly bouncer and were impressed by how white and simple this place was, but I wished there were pictures and other decorations to fill some of the walls. The only lighting that stood out in this room was the neon red lights illuminating with the words«Block Party». That sign was quite interesting to see and worth a snapshot or two. The bartenders were nice, but it took a while for us to finally get our order since we would be greeted by not just one, but two bartenders who kept asking us if we were helped yet. The menu consisted of bar food, wine, and most especially, craft beer($ 7). Despite seeing the ever-so-famous Peanut Butter Milk Stout from Belching Beaver Brewery on the menu, I ended up getting the Denogginizer from Drake’s Brewing Company while my boyfriend had the Solis Occasus IPA from Mike Hess Brewing. In addition to seeing these wonderful craft beers on tap, there is a wide selection of bottled and canned beers off the side, Ninkasi Brewing Company’s beers included. Once we headed towards the patio area, the space definitely increased in size with wooden floors and walls to go around, leaving the outside open for us to witness the night sky. The projector screen in black and white and Wii Sports were the first to be seen coming from a narrow hallway, followed by a gigantic shuffleboard that actually filled up half of the space. Towards my right, a communal seating area appeared with plenty of people socializing, and a gourmet hot dog cart was right there at the back. Overall, the Block Party is a great addition to Highland Park for Oxy students, craft beer lovers, and hipsters everywhere. I would like to return one day to try the michelada with the popsicle on top.
