Blick Art Materials

One of my favorite art supply stores ever. They have everything I need for my graphic art drawings. As well as numerous types of paints for when I do my creative work on the side. I recommended this place to my best friend who does a lot of spray paint art and this has become the only place he comes to for his paints. The employees are very helpful and very thorough which their knowledge of the different supplies. Great place to go for art supplies I could spend hours in there.

As a professional artist I shop here a lot, so I feel the need to defend my favorite local store. In regards to another Unilocaler back in my day you needed to ask what the differences between products were instead of expecting a FREE lesson. Which in my opinion doesn’t make them lazy.
Ok not having a student discount sucks, but because you dont understand the «effective marketing strategy» of matching prices in store to a constantly changing online store maybe the problem is with you and not anyone else.
On behalf of everyone who has worked in retail I apologize you were not greeted while you walked in. It must be hard to walk into a store and not be instantly acknowledged. Let your art reflect your shunning from society.
Utrecht (may god rest its soul) was much smaller, and, apparently not getting much business because everyone went to blick because of inventory and prices. Utrecht offered much more personal customer service because of this.
as a 10+ year veteran in customer service, retail anywhere is hard. please understand not everyone can be satisfied every time. Some problems are at the corporate level, not at the store level.

These people go above and beyond what you’d expect every time we shop there. They all know my daughter on a first name basis. Really helpful and super cool! Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity .

Called this branch for a Liquitex Splatter brush, I was put on hold for 5 minutes, then I was disconnected. Lousy
customer service.

This place has everything for your art and craft needs. The staff is very helpful. I was on a schedule and needed a bunch of things. The staff was quick and efficient in giving me options that are cheaper and also gave me a comparison between the brands. Cost wise, similar to Michael’s and Staples — depending on what you get. All in all, great place. I was lucky to find parking right outside the front door but there is plenty street parking around as well.

Its good to pick up a few supplies from here but you will never pay under $ 30 ever, never ever.

I would love to visit your store but there is NOWHERE TO PARK! How do you stay open?!?

Super helpful staff, especially Bianca. I had a huge project & maybe 15 mins to get supplies. They were able to accommodate me. I needed specific told & they knew a few options for each thing & steered me towards items I needed & even walked me through quality concerns. Only coming to this location from now on. Thank you!

I do not enjoy coming to Blick. They are overpriced and the store associates I encountered today were lazy and unhelpful. To top it off, their «preferred membership» program is bogus. I think their use of the word «preferred» is to apply to Blick’s preference for customers who don’t understand effective marketing tactics. I came here today after work to pick up some watercolor supplies for my coworker. Nobody greeted me when I walked in, I saw two sales associates chatting behind the cash register and hardly any other sales associates on the floor. I finally flagged one down, inquiring about where to find my aforementioned gift. Clearly, I didn’t know what exactly I was looking for, but she just directed me down an aisle across the store and walked away. She didn’t offer to show them to me or explain what the differences among the different types of paper were. I ended up playing a guessing game and texting a picture to my boyfriend for his opinion. I can’t believe my boyfriend was much more helpful over the phone than someone who actually works in the store. Next, I looked my product up online with my phone to see if I could price match it with a competitor, as their «preferred membership» advertisement boasts. Let me just explain what their misleading advertisement is really saying: 1) They will price match online prices with THEIR OWN WEBSITE. If they’re competing with themselves, why wouldn’t they just make all of their in-​store prices match their online prices? Because they calculate shipping into the price matching? Wow, way to puff your chest up with YOURSELF. 2) They will price match with competitors… if you bring in a physical advertisement from the competing store, not any competing online store. Are you kidding me? I don’t know about you, but I only see paper sale advertisements when I’m in the actual store, so to encourage your «preferred members» to take an advertisement from a store you were obviously just in to Blick to match, you must really think you’re that special. Blick must seriously think their customers want to funnel their money into Blick and their nonsensical marketing techniques instead of other, less expensive (and probably less corporate) art supply stores.
It’s no wonder my boyfriend laments the fact that Blick acquired Utrecht because he loved Utrecht, and I bet their service trumped Blick tenfold (which doesn’t seem difficult to do). I’ve gotta start researching another art supply store in the area or I might start shopping online, so that I wouldn’t have to give this ridiculous company any more of my time or money.
Contrary to previous reviews Unilocalers have left, they do not offer student discounts. They only offer a teacher discount with a valid teacher’s ID. They have a wide selection of supplies, so I hope you know what you’re looking for when you come in because you’re pretty much on your own for the rest of your shopping experience, unless you want to hail down a sales associate who will roll their eyes before reluctantly advising you. The location is easy to find and there is a parking lot around back.

If you need a good art supply selection and great customer service, it go here ! I had read the reviews and decided to come here. This was my first time. When I walked in the doors I was a little overwhelmed at how much stuff there was. I’m so glad that there was so muck wonderful, knowledgeable staff consistently checking to see if I had any questions. Added bonus that all the staff is gorgeous! breathtaking! Big thank you to Laura for helping my project become more beautiful than I had envisioned! I bought stencils, pencil, paint & brush.
Again, go here! you will not be disappointed.

It’s what an art store should be. I was surprised that the art boards I bought were so cheap because everything in there looked high dollar. They also had some cool tools in front of the store I would have liked to have.
Everyone was helpful and I found what I needed.
Parking blows, I don’t think they have a parking lot.

The staff here is always so helpful in helping me find items. With so many items in stock I always feel lost even though I’ve been there so many times.
I love that Blick sends me discount coupons in my email because being a college student, deals are always wonderful to have when working on a budget.
The store is always so organized and well stocked.
They always have the neatest trinkets on their front displays.
The only downfall I would say is parking can sometimes be an issue. I wish they had their own parking lot like the Blick store on Lincoln in Santa Monica.

Wonderful experience here.
I randomly have the urge for creative projects and this is the closest art store to my home, and I feel blessed that it’s such a great one.
The employees are extremely helpful and willing to help — I have even had two or three employees give opinions and suggestions for a project and they all seemed eager to share their knowledge.
They suggest and give you what you need. They don’t shove the most expensive option in your face like you will find at many other art stores and stores in general, and I really appreciate this. The vibe here is definitely less retail and more like you’re entering a friendly creative space.
Aside from a huge abundance of supplies that range from beginner quality to expert quality– great system for those who want to dabble but not spend a fortune on designer supplies — there are also a lot of fun, unique gifts and accessories at the front.
There is also a small but extensive art book section in the back of the store that has how-​to books, artist books (you know, those beautiful ones with the huge HD pictures), and more. They carry Moleskine notebooks here too!

I drive a good distance just to shop at this place though parking is tricky. I love the range of their products and also their customer service. The staff is always friendly and willing to help out whenever asked. Finally what just adds to this awesome place are the prices. Not that art supplies are EVER cheap, but this place sure is better than a lot of the other stores.
So worth the drive and the money :)

Great store with lots, I mean lots of art supplies specially for people that like to paint. Brush heaven and color heaven.
Cashier really friendly but I ask a lady for some help finding calligraphy tools for left handed people and she just said they all work for both hands and kindda kept on walking, she definitely does not know that the nibs are cut differently for lefties wish she would have cared a little more and show that she was willing to help instead of just blowing us off.
Will definitely come here again just for their huge selection

Are all art supply stores created equal?
Until today, I thought they were. Blick Art Materials has always been a staple of my list of places I visit on a weekly basis. There’s always something I’m running out of or a new brush I absolutely need in order to complete my project.
So why this location? Of the half dozen Blick’s in the Greater Los Angeles area, this one in particular sticks out. In two words, customer service. Sure, every Blick you visit will have someone greet you as you enter. A store associate is bound to ask if they could help you find anything in particular. But here at the Sawtelle location, I had a different experience.
Today, I went looking for a color pencil set. The associate went out of her way to check on stock and inquire about an online offer I pointed out. When she wasn’t able to help, she called their general manager, Joe, over. Joe searched stock, checked online, and did everything within his means to help me out. He was attentive, caring and accommodating. In the end, I was able to find what I needed and left happy.
Why write a review on an art supply store? Aren’t they all the same? This Blick location is clean, organized and has great selection. The staff is incredibly helpful and attentive. Above all, a store experience beyond expectations.

This Aquarius is very proud to say that yes, I can check the «creative» box under the Water Bearer trait column. Even though I can’t draw to save my life – more of a visionary – I love anything and everything artsy. (Except Banksy. Which is crap.)
When I was imprisoned behind the Orange Curtain, I would hit up the ol’ Costa Mesa Michael’s for art supplies, but now that I live in the WONDERFUL, FABULOUS, SUPER-​PERFECT Santa Monica, I got a new game: Blick this.
This space is so beautiful inside. Exposed wood beams create the sky view, and rows and rows of perfectly organized sketch books and paints and brushes create the scene at eye-​level.
Prices include a nice range, as well, i.e., Blick stocks Louis Vuitton graphite pencils that will set you back the cost of a spa day, right alongside stellar generic versions for less than a buck.
But of course, my fave reason to 5-​star a joint is always about the service. And up in this little nest o’ Picasso there are a few magna cum laude Nordstrom University graduates. (Wha’sup, Isaac!)
I say (now tell me if you think I’m going overboard here) they put a little Mixologist in the corner and we meet up here at 5pm for Happy Hour.

I am no Picasso, but I love creating art. Drawing, painting, sketching, you name it. Blicks is an artist’s dream shop tied in a gold bow. I am a kid in a candy store there. Aisles and aisles of pencils, paints, markers, pens, papers, and on and on and on. The organization is fantastic and the each item is easy to find and displayed in the most suitable way.
Price is reasonable for art supplies. It’s not cheap, bc the quality is better, and quality is important for art. Parking is metered on Santa Monica Blvd and Colby. Hint if you want free parking go south on Colby, less than a block and its all residential and free.
Walking down the aisles is almost in itself a reason to go. Instant creativity. As you see the colors, smell the charcoals, and touch the papers you instantly feel like you can create the next great Van Gogh.
Be careful if you lack restraint like me. I left with sketch pad, marker paper, pencils, blend-​able markers, colored pencils, drawing pencils, and canvases to add to my already overflowing collection of art supplies.
I also live less than 2 blocks from Blick, blessing or nightmare in disguise.

I went here for black friday and it was the best experience I’ve ever had in an Art store!
It was the best because everything was on sale and they gave out free stuff. I got paint, a long brush, and a small canvas for free and my BF got a blick shirt for free aswell! The staff were really persistent with helping all the customers who were shopping. For example, I was carrying a lot of stuff with me and it looked like I needed a cart. The staff personally hauled a cart for me just so that I could continue shopping with free hands. It was very considerate! Thanks guys.
Their products were wonderful and they offer a wide range of supplies for any artist! I’m a graphic designer and so matting my work is absolutely necessary. They had all the supplies that I needed to mat my artwork for very cheap. 30 bucks for a huge self heal cutting board, an exacto knife, extra blades, a metal ruler, glue stick, a T ruler, colored pencils, and brushes… I couldn’t believe it was all 30 bucks. I saved a ton of money going here!
I recommend this place for anyone! truly amazing.
