Staff had the worst attitudes. They rescue dogs and PUPPIES from animal shelters and provide them with the exact same shots as a normal shelter and sell them quadruple the price. This is a disgusting practice.

This place is just terrible. I am a huge dog lover and I have 3 rescue dogs myself, BUT this place needs to clean up their act. While walking down Fairfax we decided to pop in and check out this place since they have rescues and also have some pet items for sale. The second we pushed the door open the smell of dog poop and urine was just unbelievable. The place had several dogs running around and they were playing in their own poop and urine. Like I said I’m all about saving these furry guys but that cannot possibly be good for these little guys. When I commented on the strong smell the girl behind the counter was quick with her snarky rude remarks about how it smelled better than them being killed at the shelter.
This cannot possibly be healthy for these animals or for the employees of this shop. Do not go here until they clean up their act.

Just have to say what a wonderful place and experience coming here … I stopped in for a min to see the place for the first time and didn’t want to leave as soon as I walking in the door I was greeted with love from the all the pups and staff … I was able to foster Wendy for a few days and didn’t want to take her back fall in love with her as she did me … I know when u walk in here it’s a lot going on but these ppl are doing their best some more then others but they are trying to get these pups a home can’t get mad at that … If you go shopping for a pup you will end up spending the same if not more then anything and u won’t know the history of the pup … Thanks again for the wonderful help

Apparently «outside dogs» are not allowed in this store. My wife and I walked here to get our dog a toy and we were told to get out as there had been «fights within their pack». How unprofessional for a storefront to turn away customers. We won’t be coming back here. There’s an amazing store down the way on Beverly Blvd called The Urban Pet, bring your business there!

Adopted a dog here back in ’13, and what a wonderful place! A staff that really cares, a great selection of dogs/​puppies greatly in need of homes, and a nice place to stop by if you need a pick-​me-​up.
Please consider adopting ALWAYS! So many dogs needs homes, and you dont need to pay thousands of dollars on dogs and hospital bills for a purebred/​puppy mill dog!

My Experience:
I had an amazing Cat for 12 Years and Last Year died. I am ready to move on and adobe a puppy. I went to this place multiple times to find the right puppy that I feel that speaks to me. Finally, I found a beautiful Puppy that I felt connected. I saw his eyes and I had this call that can be the one. I asked them and they gave me 30 questions to answer and then to have an interview. I was waiting almost 1 hours. I walked out to talk to my roommate on the phone about the puppy. A couple walked in and they choose the puppy I wanted. The woman with the short hair told them that she will hold the puppy until the next day at 1pm to bring the missing document that proves that their house is okay with animals.
I was so sad, I wished that they will change their mind. So one employee finally asked me for an interview. I told them that I wanted the specific puppy that was already almost adobed. She was keeping asking me questions and she was trying to sell me one of the old dogs there and she was trying to convince me that is better for my case to get an older dog. (WHAT CASE?) Then she asked me what I will do when I will go to visit my family in Europe and I told her that I want small to medium size dog so I can take him with me in the plane. I have fear of flights and animals can help you to calm during flights. Then again she was trying to give me other older dogs with already develop characters. I told her that I prefer puppy because you can develope their character easier when they are puppies. She told me: We are bringing new puppies every week, come again and check.
I left and I was thinking the beautiful puppy that i want. I called them back and I told her if the new parents of the puppy dont show up, please let me know and i will come tomorrow to get him. She said okay and she gave me her personal number to call her or text her. I texted her the next day at 1pm and she didnt respond back. I called the store and they told me that the new parents came and picked up the puppy. :(
Today, I went back to see if they have some new puppies and I saw the puppy that I asked for adoption last week there. I was soooooo happy. I asked what happened and they told me that the new parents had some issue with the landlord and they returned the puppy.
I went to speak to the woman with the short hair that I want to adobe the puppy. Then she told me that the other employee who did the interview told her she things that the puppy is not a good for me and I have to get an older dog. I CAN’T believe that. She said because i have anxiety. She used the anxiety that I have for the planes to tell me that a puppy is not a good option for me. How the hell she knows what is good or not good for me? The same person that sold for 500 $ the same puppy to the other people that they returned it back few days later. These people are crazy they care only to sell the leftover old dogs with the weird behaviors. The reason I visited this place is because a friend adobed from there an older dog with so many psychological problems and he told me they have some puppies. I am not going there again. They are rude and they don’t really care.

I knew as soon as I moved to LA that I wanted to get a puppy and I was so happy that Bark N Bitches is where I found my adorable little soul mate Margo! I had learned about them years earlier from a friend and loved the idea of a store front with rescue dogs! I spent my teenage years protesting against all the puppy mill stores in LA and loved the brilliant idea to have such a wonderful alternative in the adopt don’t shop world! It was so great to be able to get my pup and get everything I needed for her in one place and know that everything i was buying was also going to support the store. The ladies who work in there are so sweet and really care about what they do and the dogs. They took the time to explain everything to me, answer all my questions and make recommendations. I couldn’t be happier and am so grateful to them for my adorable Margo!

My fiancée and I were looking all over Los Angeles County to adopt the right pup. We lost out previous pup to cancer back in August of 2015, and it took a little while to get back into the right mindset where we could take care and love a new one to the level we demanded of ourselves.
We popped around to shelters and rescues all over the place, but never found the one that made a connection with us. My first dog I found tied to a fence with no owner to be found coming by or at local vets. My fiancée owned her dog when I moved in with her originally. Given all of that, I had never been through the trials of trying to find a dog who had been spending their days in cages. And, to me, it was so hard to get a read on a pup who had just been let out of their cage and wanted to run around and explore the world, and never mind this bearded guy who is trying to play with me. And I know for some people and some places, that system works well…
But for me and my fiancée, Bark n’ Bitches nailed it. Is it a bit of a controlled chaos? Sure. Are there accidents on the sales floor? Yup. But nothing worse than any dog owner has come to grips with… again, at least in my opinion. Pups were running around, playing with each other, and all the other customers in the shop, and this was HUGE to me, because it meant that whatever pup I found, I could see in real time how they interacted with the world.
And that’s when we met Autumn, a year and a half old black lab who had been used for breeding and generally neglected… losing fur and greatly underweight. But, despite all that, the efforts of Shannon and her team at Bn’B kept Autumn’s spirits up, brought back her social behavior, and maintained a well behaved atmosphere for her to grow in. I first saw her playing tug o’ war with one dog and then saw another dog run up to her barking and making a racket… and Autumn kept her cool and playful demeanor the entire time.
I absolutely attest this amazing behavior to the socialization and discipline Shannon and her team maintains at Bark n’ Bitches.
Shannon took a great deal of time reviewing our application and interviewed us to find out our background and our outlook on dog training, behavior, and ‘worst case scenarios’. Everything you’d want from a person who cared for dogs and wanted to make sure the forever home they were going to was going to be the best match. And then she helped walk us through making sure we got the best food for Autumn, reviewed their toys, leashes, collars, and bowls, and then carefully went over the documentation and benefits we received for adopting a pup from their store, all while maintaining her ‘alpha’ status in the store to all the dogs.
It was a pleasure adopting from Bark ‘n Bitches, and they give great credit to the rescuing community. Autumn came home, and thanks to her socialization at the store, was able to fit in with our neighbors and neighbors’ dogs immediately, and she has a forever home and some new friends. My fiancée and I couldn’t be happier with our experience. Thank you Bn’B!

For the staff: ⁵⁄₅ stars. Super friendly and helpful. All the workers there today were attentive to the dogs and people visiting.
Prices: ⁵⁄₅ stars. Everything inside the store is reasonably priced, from treats to dog toys and specialty foods.
The reason I’m giving it three stars is because some of the questionable practices I saw during my visit today. Upon entering, I got an odor wave of like, old urine on the floor. You couldn’t see it, but it had definitely been on the floor. I could see the employees cleaning accidents up but it just didn’t seem like enough. And there was a candle and a sage smudge stick burning in an attempt to cover up the odor.
It’s concerning because one of their dogs (he was a bigger dog, white with orangey brown spots) had some sort of injury on its left paw. It looked like peeling skin or something, and it wasn’t bandaged or anything. I’m certain the condition of the floor could possibly infect something like that.
I also saw who I assumed to be the owner pull a dog by its tail and lightly smacking it’s nose telling it «no!» after it had barked at another dog. I’m no dog trainer don’t get me wrong but I know negative reinforcement when I see it.
I’m glad this place is trying to find rescue dogs a new and loving home but some things need to change.

Not impressed. As a former intake and evaluation tech at DUMB Friends League in Denver I have over 10 years of experience with adopting out (and adopting my own!) dogs.
This place is wearing its ass on its’ head. From what I can tell they are basically flipping rescue dogs for profit. It is a pet project from women who, I’m sure love dogs (as literally most everyone does), but are using this crusade to front a vanity project.
Their goal here is not to adopt out as many dogs as possible, to the best homes possible, as is the case with top shelters. Their goal here is ego, mainly, and money.
Don’t treat interested adopters like an inconvenience and turn them off from saving a life. Improving business practices would dramatically increase the number of adoptions here — but again — that’s not what these people are interested in.
Don’t rent a ridiculous space on frou-​frou Fairfax and then charge outrageous prices in the name of ‘saving animals.’ Shame. You charge outrageous prices to pay for your hip location, pricing many loving people out of dog-​ownership, and altogether disrespecting the spirit of adoption.
Don’t even get me started on health and safety violations that would NEVER fly in our facility. It’s a real shame. These people are getting so much wrong, and yet will never see the truth through their ‘holier than thou’ veneer.
PS — Stop shrieking at people and get a front door that closes on its own LIKE LITERALLY EVERY OTHER BUSINESS. Keeping the dogs safe is YOUR job. Leaving it up to the general public is negligent.

What is that smell? OMG, you have a cute dog running up… er’ wait… you have one, two, three… nine dogs running around, all vying for attention. And that smell? It smells like animal hoarding 101 missed your shop.
Trust me. I LOVE animals and I want them to have a great home but if you cannot provide a healthy environment for your customers then how is it healthy for your pets? My partner wanted to go inside but I warned him that is something out of a Hoarders episode.
Products are a bit overpriced. I don’t recommend adopting here. Go to a shelter and save a pet for less and in better conditions — less chance of kennel cough or some other communicable disease.
Try hard BnB!

BnB is awesome place to get all your pet supplies, not only you can get eveything for your furry babies’ need; It is also a safe home for many rescuse dogs of various breed. Thank you Shannon (the owner) has such big heart for helping these furry babies to find a loving and forever home and give these rescuse furry babies a second chance.
When you walk in to BnB you will be greeting by many cute dogs big or small. Their friendly staffs will help answer all your questions of the dogs in the shop (They are all available for adoption) or the merchandise they carry.
Please support BnB, so more furry babies will continue have a safe place and second chance to find their forever home.

If you want to find a dog to adopt, please, run, don’t walk to Barkin’ Bitches. What is so incredibly unique about this place is the following:
1. The place is part dog supply store, part dog rescue. Something I have never seen before in my life. Another thing, the dogs are around people all day long. When you enter, you will be greeted by all types and sizes of pooches, all just wanting to say «hello» and yes, many hoping that perhaps you might be the one to take them to their forever home where they can love you unconditionally for years to come.
2. Every time you walk in the store, it feels like home because the staff have gone out of their way to create an amazing community of volunteers and return buyers. Their products are top notch, but still very affordable.
3. Speaking of the staff, Jeana, Shannon (the owner), Apryl, everyone, are some of the most loving and caring people I have had the privilege to meet in a very long time. They put their heart and souls into these dogs and you know right away that these women want only the very best for their rescues. The fact that the dogs are around every kind of person one can imagine, makes them much more adaptable to the «real world» and can often give the staff a good idea of how Fido might be when you take him home.
4. This rescue averages about 30 adoptions per month, adoptions that «stick» because the staff goes to great lengths to make sure you and your «pal to be» are a good match. There is an interview process, but trust me, you won’t feel like you are being grilled for a national security clearance, they just want to know you well enough so that Fido’s next home will be his forever home.
As a final note: To any and all of those who gave this place one or two stars, please, note that these women aren’t making big bucks off of this gig. Of that, I can assure you. They are doing this purely for the love of these animals. They are overwhelmed at times, sure, because they are human. I would urge those that read the reviews here to keep that in mind and to remember that no establishment can make everyone 100% happy, 100% of the time.

The owner, Shannon, is so amazing in what she does to find homes for abandoned dogs. This place is one of a kind! All the dogs here are so friendly, and are very socialized with other dogs.

So we fostered a cute little boxer over Christmas weekend. On Christmas night at about 11pm he started getting a dry cough. We gave him water thinking it wasn’t anything big since he hadn’t been outside since we got him.
The cough didn’t go away (it was constant) and at about 12:30am he coughed up blood. I called an employee there letting them know the situation. I told her he needs to go to the hospital asap because he can’t breathe, but she told me not to and wait till the morning. The dog was in a really bad state so I decided that he needs medical care right away. The emergency doctor said he had parvo.
I called back the employee to let her know and she said there’s no way and to bring it to her hospital at 9am. Her hospital said it was a respiratory infection. I told her to keep us up to date regarding his improvement because we wanted to adopt him. We got no calls.
We called to ask about the dog and any type of refund or lower adoption fee. They said that they’re not going to do anything about because «We explicitly told you not to bring him to the hospital». Guess we should have let the dog die. Their store name is definitely on point, but it’s not describing their dogs.

I’ll warn you all before you decide to go into bark n bitches to save a life. When I arrived at the adoption center (store) the clerk was instantly rude to me, which was fine, I went to get the attention of a puppy in the front window of the store. It was explained to me after that the puppy hadn’t had all of its shots yet. No need to be rude. No one wants to get a puppy sick afterall, nor did I actually touch the animal.
After filling out all the paper work, I didn’t agree with the fact that, on top of the $ 450 adoption fee, I had to spend another $ 175 on things for my pet (potential pet) at their store, I shop at another local pet store for my animals needs. The clerk clearly told me that it was to help cover their overhead, which is also fine and I agreed to honor that requirement. As soon as we finished that conversation she promptly told me their dog (s) wouldn’t be coming home with me Bc they didn’t feel I would be the «right fit» for their puppies. I simply don’t understand how someone can talk to you for 10 mins and decide if you can take care of another life.
The store, Bc it’s a store, clearly lives up to its name. The puppies are there and so are the Bitches ;)

We recently adopted a dog from Bark n’ Bitches and couldn’t be happier with our new family addition. We came in for a specific puppy that was on their website. After a 15 minute interview, they approved us for the pup and we were able to take him home that same day. They were also very helpful with picking out new swag for our little guy and some of the essentials that we needed to bring him home. They also took our «family photo», which was really sweet of them.
It’s so nice of Bark n’ Bitches to rescue dogs and foster them until they find their forever home. There was an adoption fee, but considering you get one free vet visit, free spade/​neutering, free microchip, and in some cases all of the necessary shots (ours was a pup and had all but 2 of his shots), they’re not making money on these adoption fees and they are just trying to cover their costs.
The adoption process was pretty seamless and I’ve already recommended them to a few friends wanting to adopt a dog. They are saving little doggy lives over here, so they get 5 stars in my book.

Writing only as a frequent visitor and never having adopted. I have visited BnB so many times (I live nearby and love taking some of their pups on walks or hikes if they need) and always have such a great time playing with the dogs there.
For those who have never been, it’s important to understand that their method is very different than the traditional. They let the dogs play freely within the shop, which (in most cases) conditions the dogs to be friendly with not only one another, but also comfortable with humans. They allow people to leave their ID and take dogs out for a walk or hikes if they need, and also allow people who are interested in fostering dogs to do so.
Though yes, the shop sometimes smells and the staff are brash, I’ve never been so bothered by the way that they are. Since the dogs run around, accidents are bound to happen — hence the smell. The staff are dealing not only with customers but also taking care of their pups, hence their lack of patience or lack of constantly attentive care. (Also, they know many people like me often come in just to pet some pups and hang out, so they probably aren’t going to be the most attentive customer service people.)
Overall, I’m always happy after a visit to BnB and have seen many adorable dogs find a new home through them. If you’re on the fence, I hope you just try and visit and see for yourself!

Parker became part of our family this weekend when we got him from Bark N’ Bitches. Jeana was not only informative in helping with the adoption process but you can tell that the people working there are interested in truly finding the right homes for these pups. They really care about the potential owners personality and living situation that will work for the dogs they are adopting. They care that these pups end up in the right home and trust me, from being there they have some pretty amazing and loving dogs. Also they do about 40 adoptions a month which is so great!
Any negative review on here I would pay no attention to. Yes — there is a gate in the front that needs to be shut before you enter or leave. They have the dogs best interest at heart in this — no dogs need to be running into the middle of Fairfax. They want these pups in the right SAFE, home. They really care for them and that’s the sign of a great dog rescue shelter.
5 Stars — go in with no intention of leaving with a dog — and if the right one is there for you, it’ll work itself out.
