All I’ll say is, i think EVERYTHING here that’s not a breakfast item is a frozen food item that is simply warmed up. Take that for what it is.

I’ve been going to the Astro Diner for almost 20 years. For those wondering how I come to rate the place so highly, it’s because there are things that I order regularly and things I know not to order. For example, this place has probably the best burgers and fries in Los Angeles! Seriously! The burgers are freshly grilled and taste great and the fries are crispy outside and light inside. There is an 8 ounce version and a 12 ounce version of the burger. Order medium or medium rare for best taste! Also they have nice Greek salads and dinner salads. While I prefer Greek salad, a novelty here is that you can get beets on your dinner salad. I sometimes order a Gyros sandwich which is good, but standard fare. They have an amazing, but non creamy clam chowder on Fridays. My friends assure me that breakfast is good here, although I never order breakfast because I’m allergic to eggs. I personally would stay away from fried chicken and some of the other specialty dishes for the same reason I wouldn’t order them in other diners, although I have had pot roast and was pleased with that. I have also tried spaghetti as a side and it was tasty while a bit non traditional. I am not a big dessert guy but I have had a delicious, thick milkshake here from time to time. The staff is usually very attentive and friendly which is another reason I keep coming back. I am definitely a regular here and will hopefully continue to be one for years to come. It’s nice to come in at 4AM and be greeted as a friend. Oh, yeah, it’s open 24 hours a day! Remember, burgers, fries and Greek salad!

I live nearby, and had never been to this diner! I’m glad I visited because it was a good experience. I ordered the avocado tuna salad, which was very tasty. Fresh veggies, lots of avocado, and an ample portion of tuna. Customer service met our standards, very friendly waitress. Not much atmosphere or ambiance happening– the place is VERY dated. Clean, but right out of the 70’s. My only dock for Astro’s is for their prices. At $ 14 – 16 a salad, these are hardly ‘diner prices.’

We stopped by last night for a late dinner. Our waiter was apologetic when he forgot to bring out my bf’s soup. The food was decent, I ordered the club sandwich; it was good, bacon was delicious, and the portions were large. Once I was given my receipt, I noticed that I was overcharged; the lady doubled the tip that I left. When I brought it to her attention, she either played dumb or was dumb and should have been working a register. She shoved cash back at me, okay, and when i was giving her their receipt copy back kind of raised her voice, hahaha. Crazy lady.

Driven by many times and my six year old and I decided to stop by on the way home after the beach since it is close to home. We sat on the patio– we were the only ones– and after a bit our waiter took our order. He was great! Very personable and sweet and returned quickly after our many requests. My son’s chicken strips were amazing. Three huge strips of white meat lightly breaded. Didn’t feel like cheap commercial chicken strips by any means. I ordered the French dip. Mine was literally meat on a cut loaf of toasted bread. It came with aus jus but I guess I expected more– cheese or something. It was just bland. Over all, the children’s meal was amazing– mine, not so much. The service we had was great. We tried it– might not be back.

I use to come here when I was smaller and the food was always good, now it’s just blah like other Unilocalers the price is so over priced was going to get pasta but not for 20 bucks might as well gone to palermos for some real Italian food. They didn’t bring a high chair for us until we asked for the 3rd time. Didn’t ask to refill my drink asked for bread for my daughter before food came out and they didn’t bring it till almost the end.

Had the worst service tonight from our server Sue. Had to keep asking other servers for things. Sue would just walk by us. This is the first time we had Sue. The place was not busy at all, but she spent most of her time in the back room talking to one table with what looked liked a regular. I will make sure not to sit in her section again.

Bertin, the waiter is the nicest server you will ever meet! Besides the great food, which you will come back to for sure. The service here is amazing! Love this place, perfect for that midnight snack attack or even Sunday brunch.

Have made this place my go to spot for breakfast after my morning hiking. The service is hit or miss but the food is good. I would only recommend it for breakfast or lunch and not dinner. A must try for breakfast is the french toast and they have a really good country omelette. And for lunch any of sandwich options are good.

This Silver Lake institution has been the go-to coffee shop for breakfast(primarily) for me and my spouse for 40(that’s forty) years. Nothing was great but it was all good to very good. That has recently changed – is it under new owners? An omelette arrived paper thin and dismally overcooked; I sent it back, and I have done that at Astro maybe five times in all those years. I so often ordered iced tea that several of the friendly waitresses – all of whom seem to be gone now – would have it on the table before I sat down. They now serve only INSTANT iced tea, foul-tasting and depressing. My wife ordered a bowl of oatmeal – and the cream provided gave her painful food poisoning. And this is AFTER their recent raise in prices. I have never been so disappointed in the restaurant we’ve frequented more than any other.

A greasy spoon diner with mediocre food that with their new menu, is now charging over $ 8 for a side of feta cheese and over $ 5 for half an avocado. What are they smoking? Hilarious.

Stay away from this place! Very disappointed, horrible food and over-priced. My roommate and I were driving home from a show last Saturday(Jan 9th), and we decided to stop at Astro for some late night grub. I had driven by this place 100s of times and always wanted to try it out. We were starving, so we ordered the nachos as an appetizer. 10 $ nachos must be good right? Wrong! The tomatoes had gone bad, the cheese was that yucky 7 – 11 press & squeeze stuff and the guacamole was disgusting and looked like it had been scooped from a can. We both had about 3 chips each and pushed it to the side. I ordered the Tuna Melt w/fries $ 13(rookie mistake) and my roommate ordered the Stir Fried Chicken $ 16.95. I took one bite of my tuna melt and spit it up in my napkin. The cheese was some type of square packaged cheese that tasted like plastic and the tuna should have been thrown out weeks ago. The fries were overcooked, but edible, and I didn’t dare touch the coleslaw. My roommate’s meal came with broccoli meatball soup. Again, there were problems with his food as well. The broccoli was overcooked and the«meatballs» were clumps of god knows what. The chicken stir fry with rice tasted like a pre-packaged mixture of onions, peppers, and chicken mixed together that the«chef» threw in the microwave, along with the rice. I’m not even a picky eater. I have a big appetite, and normally I’ll suck it up and eat anything, but the food was utterly horrible and I couldn’t do it. We asked for the check right away and paid for our $ 45 disaster of a meal. Our waiter asked if we wanted any to-go boxes and we told him that the food was so bad that we couldn’t eat it. He apologized quickly and without questions. It was as if he already knew how bad the food was. Either we chose the 3 worst items on the menu or they need to make a drastic change in the kitchen. I’m giving 2 stars because, although the food was a major disappointment, the staff and service was good. Our order was taken quickly, the food came out in a timely manner, and we were re-filled on our water cups whenever they got low. I don’t understand why this place has so many positive reviews. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, and say maybe they were having an off night in the kitchen, but I will never be coming back here again.

This was my first meal in LA right after I got off the plane. While the food was decent, the service left much to be desired. This was a real mom and pop place– so the good service is obviously reserved for regulars. We sat down before two other tables, but they received most of the attention from our waitress. She was running back and forth at their request, but could not even be bothered to refill our waters of coffees. She visited only twice. Once to take our order and once to bring the food. A big no no for me is when I get a water and I finish it and it just sits there and does not get refilled. That is honestly all I will say here. I will not be back. The only reason I give this place two stars is because of the food.

Busy place popular with locals on Sat morning, incl the local police. The eggs Benedict was pretty good with hash potatoes which were crispy, not soggy. Add some hot sauce and it was good stuff. Service was a little impatient for my liking but she got the job done with coffee refills and boxes to go. Plenty of parking but beware which side you exit to Glendale if you’re not headed to the I-5.

I came here for an early morning, healthy breakfast. I ordered the veggie omelette with feta cheese, side fruit instead of potatoes and wheat toast with a coffee. I didn’t want to get all egg whites because it would have added about 3 bucks to the price. They added about 3 bucks already when I added the feta in the omelette so that would’ve made it about 25 bucks for my breakfast and that is just too much. There were raw potatoes in my omelette, other than that it was pretty good. My waiter was unbelievably good. He kept my coffee full, brought me water even though I didn’t really ask for it and all around was just a kind man down to his soul. The service made up for the value of the food. Although it was good, it was pricy for the substitutions, I’m not going to hold it against them too much. I’d probably come back.

Ah Astros, I can count the times I’ve been here sober but certainly not intoxicated. Astro’s is by far one of the last true diners in Los Angeles. The floors and ceilings are covered in tile and the seats are covered in vinyl that are probably circa 1972. You get what you get here– no frills diner food that is either deep-fried or comes from a can. The staff are genuinely friendly and attentive here no matter how many drunken slobs they have served before you. Now, I’m not suggesting you come here after a night out drinking(open 24 hours), but there is something so satisfying stuffing your face with deep-fried chicken fingers and fries drowning in ranch sauce after one too many gin and tonics.

Yeah, so I am a sucker for an old school Googie style diner… and there is nothing«throw back’ about this place — it just keeps on keepin on. The building was designed in 1960 by famous googie architects Louis Armet and Eldon Davis. Named after the owners Daughter, It has gone through some transitions and phases over time that leave it a funny mix of 80’s greek nostalgia, late 70’s brown & orange + original vinyl booth 60’s goodness. It all mixes up into a kind of evolving culinary time capsule — that you can taste in the food and smell in the carpet. I absolutely love this place. Unpretentious, GREAT for kids(their pancakes come out looking like mickey mouse) — Astro mellow and laid back. I could sit here for hours reading the newspaper paper…(remember those– people stopped reading them about the same time they stopped going to diners like this) This is really one of only places left around Silverlake where you can get real greasy diner food — and it is a gem. Like any classic diner, the food is not great, the service is ok, the coffee is cheap — so to say simply… IT’S PERFECT!

I love their Monday and Wednesday chicken special. Great service and friendly. The gyro plate is pretty is good. The zucchini that comes with it is good. Just could not finish it. Hot chocolate was delish as so is the cold one. Breakfast is breakfast at a diner. Good food and great service. Will go back for sure. Parking lot.
