History
Established in 2011.
The Archway Studio/Theatre celebrated its official grand opening Oct. 15, 2011 at its former Downtown Los Angeles Arts District location. Guests were treated to a cocktail reception, entertainment, presentations, and the official dedication of the performance space.
«Macbeth: Shakespeare’s Natural Born Killers» served as the inaugural production, opening at the Archway Oct. 27, 2011. Directed by Steven Sabel, the concept production was loosely set within the confines of «Dunsinane Mental Asylum» with a 1980s heavy metal tone that became a multi-layered commentary on issues such as mental illness, homelessness, violence, and prescription medication.
Yoga Classes began in the Archway Studio space on November 1, 2011 under the direction of studio manager and instructor, Annie Freeman.
In January, 2015, the Archway Studio/Theatre moved to its new location in the North Hollywood Arts District at 10 509 Burbank blvd., North Hollywood.
Meet the Business Owner
Steven S.
Business Owner
Steven has more than 30 years experience in theatre production, including 20 years in production management. He is an award-winning producer and director with more than 100 successful productions to his credit. He also served for 12 years as a community journalist before transferring to the field of marketing and public relations, and he has nearly 20 years experience as a theatre arts instructor.
As the founding artistic director of the Redlands Shakespeare Festival, Steven managed the creation and foundation of the organization from the ground up, and served as both artistic director and executive director of the thriving organization for nine successful years.
He founded the Archway Theatre in 2011, where he serves as producing artistic director.
