I took my ‘cello out of its case for the first time in about 8 years. The bridge was down and I suspected the sound post was as well. I called Jeff and he said I’m too busy for today and to call back tomorrow. Called today and he said to go ahead and bring it to him. I fully expected to leave it but he attended to it while I waited and the price was more than reasonable for the quick and attentive service. The shop has no sign. It’s in the L-​shaped strip mall on the north side and the unmarked door is exactly in the corner where the two sides of the L intersect. 4 stars not because of any quibble. It’s just that the service wasn’t extensive enough to make the judgment. I wouldn’t hesitate to return for more service when necessary.

Jeff is very knowledgable and will not hesitate to help. I brought my bow to get rehaired first time stopping in. Fast turnaround time. Second time he helped me raise my chin rest to accommodate my long neck and tall proportions. He offered another repair that I wasn’t yet ready to execute, but will in the future. Jeff wants you to enjoy playing and will fix little things out of the kindness of his heart. Thank you Jeff!

This is a very difficult place to find, but a great place to get a violin repaired. Jeff is a nice person and got me out of a jam with my daughter’s bow. He is a terrific Luthier and makes his own violins and cellos. The repair was professionally done and I will definitely go back to him in the future.

Mr Muller effortlessly diagnosed and repaired the problem with my violin in a manner of minutes. His demeanor is warm, he’s cordial to a fault, and a consummate professional. He’s a true wizard of the craft and I whole heartedly recommended him without reservation!

He was such a nice guy! I waited outside for half an hour because he went out (he put a paper clock on his door saying he will be back at what time). I came to get my new violin set up. He did it in no time and did not charge me anything. He suggested that I get some new Dominant strings because the strings came with my violin wasn’t that good (which I know it’s true). He wrote down a website address and give me the name of strings i should consider getting. Overall fantastic experience.
P/​S: don’t be fool by the store appearance. It DOES look sketchy from the outside but he was an honest man, which I truly appreciate.
Again, there’s no sign at all, you have to look for a what seems more like an «office» that has some shades on the glass window, right next to the convenience store in the plaza.

Outstanding service at an affordable price. The owner is passionate about instruments and brings an eccentric yet effective craftsmanship to what he does. I brought my wife’s cello in for repair and was very impressed with the work done.

Luthier means serious business. Although I didn’t have the bucks to shell out for his gorgeous hand-​made violins, he was still helpful, directing me in what I needed when I started playing last year and where I could get them for a good price. He also pimped out my violin, stringing it for me and shaving down the finger board a bit. Really nice! Beautiful violins! Expect to pay at least 600 for quality like his.
Hard to find because there’s no sign, but worth it when you do. Call ahead of time or he might be out to lunch at unusual hours.

I’ve been going to Angeles Violin Shop for the past 3 years since relocating to LA for violin repairs and adjustments. I also have been to several shops in the LA. His expertise and service has always been excellent; and for repairs and adjustments or rehairs ranks among the best. He has always conducted himself with the utmost honesty and integrity. It’s no surprise to me to see members of the LA Phil, local professional studio musicians, and soloists frequently in his shop. There are many times in which he directs me to websites to purchase items (such as strings) at cheaper price and he readily acknowledges that he does not have cheapest price for those items. But if you have a Storioni that requires repair he’s the go-​to guy in town. Also, he quite a luthier himself and makes some superb violins, many of which are in the hands of professionals.

You know the story. Budding musician plays instrument throughout childhood, goes to college then suddenly stops playing instrument. This is how my encounter with Angeles Violin Shop began.
After letting my cello collect dust in the corner of various dorm rooms and apartments during my college years, I finally decided it was time to give the old gal some respect and play the damn thing. So, feeling very self satisfied, I came home early from work one afternoon so that I could have myself a little practice session. Having lied fallow for years, the cello needed some serious tuning. I start tweaking a peg around, and the damn A string broke. Fretful and musically immobilized after this accident, I frantically searched the internet for the nearest music store. Angeles Violin Shop was the closest one to my house in Venice. None of the cellists I know out here recommended this place, though. I did, however, see one positive review of this place on Citysearch by a guy who needed his bow re-​haired. The review tipped me off to some important facts: (1) there’s only one guy who runs this store, (2) he doesn’t like taking cash because it’s «too hard to make change» and prefers to be paid with checks.
Desperate to play, I called this place up to see if they had what I was looking for. They did, but he only had one brand of string in stock (Larsen). He asked me to bring my cello into the shop to see if it needed anything else. Because I’m totally ignorant when it comes to this stuff, I brought in my cello. When I got there, he was standing to the side of his front counter, with his elbow propped on the glass top, leaning as if he were waiting for my arrival… I thought that was a little weird. He looked it over carefully, complimented the craftsmanship of the cello and my bow, replaced the string, straightened the bridge, had me play a little for him to see how I liked the new string, and gave me some referrals to some cello teachers in the area. He also gave me tips on how to soundproof my apartment, so my poor neighbors don’t have to listen to my every wrong note.
The string was way overpriced, and I’m going to buy my next set of strings online (he charged $ 45 bucks for the string; I looked it up online later and I could’ve saved $ 15 at least). I am thankful that a professional looked at my cello… after letting that thing sit for such a long time, who knows what could have happened to it. The store itself is a little cramped, hard to find (no sign outside at all), and messy. I suppose it gets the job done and it saved me a trip out to Glendale or Pasadena.
