Description

Specialties

Yale MFA acting teacher and director Andrew Wood presents an acting technique taught at the Yale School of Drama. This is a class where actors learn to work with the imaginary circumstances provided by a script to find a visceral need they can pursue in a scene. Embodying and working from this visceral need enables the actor to offer luminous, memorable performances that inspire and challenge those who witness them.

The technique was developed by Evan Yionoulis, Mark Brokaw, Earle Gister and David Hammond during the eighties and nineties at the drama school at Yale. Evan and Mark are prominent New York directors who have worked with actors like Mary Louise Parker, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Clarkson, and Robert Sean Leonard. Evan chaired the acting program at the Drama School from 1997 to 2002, and continues to teach there.

The price of the 10 week class is extremely competitive, and a payment plan is offered, making the class supremely affordable.

Business Owner

I directed plays for 10 years, from the time I started studying theater at Duke University, through two years in Berlin, Germany, then three years at the Drama School at Yale, where I earned an MFA in directing, and for two years after that. I directed at venues such as Syracuse Stage in Syracuse, New York, and at New York’s Fordham University. My two most important acting teachers were Evan Yionoulis and Earle Gister, both of whom served as chairs of the Acting Program at the Yale School of Drama. I am very grateful to both of them for the knowledge and wisdom they have imparted.

I have recently founded a theater company in Los Angeles, Uranium Madhouse, which is mounting its inaugural production in June of 2011.
