Ampersand Boutique

This place is simply amazing. It’s perfect for post brunch browsing or shopping. Sometimes, they’ll have sales, sometimes an extra 25% pretty much the entire store or an accessories sale. Their team is sweet and really know their stuff!

One of the best consignment stores I’ve ever been to. Very helpful relaxing environment. Beautiful pieces high and low. Will be back again. I found a perfect sweater with their help.

Ampersand is the perfect boutique store for me. I normally avoid small shops because the sales clerks seem disinterested or aloof. But not at Ampersand. Not only are they inviting, but they are also well-​informed and helpful with feedback as you try things on. The owner is lovely and very involved in the business. Her consigners all have great taste and so does she, which means she always has a good selection of clothes, shoes and accessories. Icing on the cake: it’s in hip Larchmont, the music is fun, and the atmosphere always makes me feel cool and stylish.

I’ve purchased a number of items from Ampersand and love it. I’ve always found the owner and staff really friendly and attentive, without hovering (which I can’t stand).
Regarding the negative reviews about the non-​designer labels and prices, have to say that maybe they just don’t get this place. I’ve seen items that were exceptional and then looked at the label to discover they were j. crew or madewell. But who cares, they were just great pieces. I’ve also seen Marni, Raquel Allegra, and other interesting designers. The buyers just have a good eye for unusual, beautiful, and stand-​out items.
About the prices: yeah a little high for some items. But it’s a brick and mortar store, with rent, utilities, and employees. It’s not an Etsy shop or eBay with no overhead, but where you can’t try items on first. So, the positive is that there is no risk involved when you buy an item and it doesn’t fit or ends up look ing cheap once you see it in person. Plus, the items you buy here are standout, so you can resell them when finished. I just bought a Marc Jacobs dress and a Prada dress and I know if I decide I’m tired of them someone else will want them.
For me, this is a unique store with quality items and excellent customer care. Probably the only Los Angeles consignment shop I would bother shopping.

I live very nearby but had never stopped by until last weekend. I had a great experience at this shop. The items were all about my size, everything is very clean and organized, and nothing has that musty smell that can sometimes be associated with consignment pieces. The woman who helped me was very patient because I tried on a number of accessories, some of which are by local designers and not consignment, which I liked too. I didn’t end up buying anything, but no one made me feel guilty for leisurely browsing. The prices were reasonable, given the condition of the items and the brands. I will definitely come back to shop and potentially consign.

This place is awesome for one reason: customer service!

Three! Definitely three: customer service, selection and a comfortable dressing room that makes you look better somehow (must be the lighting).
I stroll in a couple times a month to browse their selection. The owner has a good eye and pieces are marked between $ 20-​$ 800. Sometimes I buy, sometimes I don’t but there’s absolutely no pressure.
The reason they really deserve 5 stars though is because I recently made a mistake with a purchase and the owner was so professional, courteous and understanding. Makes me feel like this place is the small independent boutique version of nordstroms– and I mean that as a high compliment.

If you’re looking to get some extra cash for your gently used clothing, this is the place to consign! If you want designer steals– this is the place to shop!
Unlike Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads, Ampersand actually prices things decently. I’ve consigned everything from designer items to cute H&M pieces, and I always feel like they respect my clothes and price them accordingly. Buffalo/​Crossroads will take your designer stuff and literally give you $ 3 for it. REALLY? Ampersand actually respects the labels/​fabrics/​designers, knows how to prices things, and you don’t get the feeling they’re trying to rob you.
The owners have great taste, and aren’t just about the labels. Yes, they have Marc Jacobs, Louboutins and Proenza Schouler, but they also have lower-​priced stuff as well. Overall, it’s a very well-​curated shop. All of the clothes I’ve seen have been in really good condition.
Definitely worth a trip for consigning OR buying!

I just spoke with the manager and she was very helpful. She responded to my emails and phone calls in a timely and professional manner.
The manager agreed to fully reimburse me for the damage to resolve my unpleasant consignment experience.
I am happy with the way that things have been handled.
I feel that my experience may be a rarity and that the staff typically goes out of their way to make a customers experience a positive one.

Staff here are very nice and helpful. I’ve bought 2 pair of shoe and a t shirt at the fair price for use stuff. I mean I can get the cheaper stuff for about the same quality at some other stores such as cross road but in here seems to be not too overwarming. I personally don’t like to go to stores that have way too much stuff in it. Plus it’s very close to my house.

A lot of the items in this consignment are VERY used. (ie shoes and bags) And for their condition, they are very overpriced. A beat up Balenciaga city bag was 800… And there were holes in the leather and everything.
The sales don’t really do much either. The sale section is mostly no-​name «designers» and I even saw a H&M top :/​Maybe I got the last pickings, but it seems like this place is making a pretty good profit.

I walked by the adorable storefront of Ampersand and didn’t even get as far as the door before I was stopped by racks of hip, designer label clothing at ridiculously low prices. I found a gorgeous silk sundress that probably retailed for 200 $, for just 20 $. The owner has truly a great eye. So glad I know about this store now.

Staff is so kind and helpful. Whoever does the buying has excellent taste and pays attention to detail — I didn’t see one item that had a snag or rip in it. The prices were a bit high but nothing out of the ordinary for LA.

I visited Ampersand after having lunch at Café Gratitude and left with three dresses and a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes that are all fantastic! I live in Washington, DC and our consignment stores are no comparison to the quality clothes and accessories available at this Boutique. It’s on my list of places to visit on my return trips to Los Angeles.

I am not a little person. The polite term for someone like me is «Amazon». The not so polite term is «moose.» Put me in heels, and I feel like I could attack Tokyo.
So you can imagine how well I fit in here in LA.
I come down to LA for work fairly frequently, and I always seem to pass Ampersand. Yesterday, I actually went in. I’m glad I did.
First things first: this is [mostly] a consignment store, which means the merchandise is from other people. Other LA people. Other, tiny LA people. People not Sam-​sized. Ampersand is not to be blamed for this, this is just the way things are down here. What separates Ampersand from other consignment stores is the service. Laura and… Courtney (?) (Oh god, I have a terrible memory. Apologies to the second mystery lady. 5’4″, short brown hair. Super nice.) were sympathetic to my size issue. They were honest about perhaps not having the largest selection of larger sizes, but they still worked to find me something (I ended up with a Donna Karan silk top and a Helmut Lang blouse). And, barring that, they have an extensive collection of accessories. Accessories fit everyone.
Everything is in great condition, with a wide variety of styles, colors, and designers. There’s something for everyone here. More importantly, however, this store is run by good people. This is really important to me. Laura, Magical Mystery Lady and I were chatting after my sale, discussing the –isms of retail: classism, sexism, racism, sizeism, and I can emphatically say you will not run into that here.
I’m slowly developing a list of places to routinely visit every time I have to come down to LA for work, and I’ve definitely added Ampersand to the list.

The place definitely had a few vintage gems (one being a pair of strappy Manolo Blahniks, but size 5) and a good selection of shoes and accessories. Although my sisters and I didn’t purchase anything during our visit, I’d definitely come back on my next vintage excursion.

I love Ampersand. The owner, Laura Armstrong is very friendly, so helpful and she has great taste in clothing, accessories, purses, and shoes. There is a great variety in the store. I have never been a vintage, consignment store or used clothing shopper, but her store has great finds– great looking clothes, variety of prices, some pricier than others, but Laura works with your price range. I have never felt obligated to buy anything, but the 5 pieces of clothing that I have purchased over the past four months are smash hits! The store has style for everyone. A great find!

Waaaaay too many shoes, and I love shoes, but it was a sea of shoes, and I found it hard to walk amidst the sea of shoes. Was overwhelming.
To be fair, they did have some very beautiful things, but the prices were on the extremely high side ($ 1600 for a Chanel jacket I saw at another local consignment store for $ 800).
While I understand that these are wonderful things which had a high retail ticket to begin with, I am super familiar with the resale market and generally find that used clothing is valued at 20% of its original retail value if it’s not new with tags. If new with tags and recent, it is about 50% of the marked ticket price.
I really wanted to like this place and spend some money here, but I found it hard to justify buying things for what would have been themarkdown prices at Neiman’s/Saks for new items.
I might consider going back if they streamline the merchandise and lower prices, cause this was just unreasonable.
I should mention that the ladies greeted me and were nice, but I tend to dress really well, and look like I would drop some cash (not entirely untrue if I love something enough).
On the flip side, my best friend (who makes A LOT more money than I do) has a super casual style (high-​end COH jeans/​James Perse t shirts) and said she was not greeted warmly and felt «they assumed I was not their customer, so why even bother?». She said she was discouraged and would not return.
I am trying to keep this a well-​rounded review, to be fair, so I hope this is handy for all you other fashionistas looking for a bargain.

Revised review! Okay, I visited Amerpsand today and had a bit more time. Yes, their selection (shoes especially) is nice BUT the prices aren’t. C’mon people, this is consignment! Shoes and dresses in the $ 200 – 300 pricepoint are ridiculous!
I am so glad I stumbled upon this boutique. A friend of mine took me to a similar one in Northern California, Walnut Creek, to be specific. It’s a high-​end consignment store with more modern (read younger) customers in mind. I had my toddler in tow and I wasn’t able to shop as much as I’d like but I was able to peruse their offerings, and they have a great selection, all neatly arranged (by size). I saw Chanel, Charles David, and Tory Burch shoes. There were some really nice purses and bags. Everything seemed to be clean and excellent used condition. I’ll definitely be back!
