I just got a new pair of glasses and sunglasses from here and had an amazing experience. Vicki Houghton is INCREDIBLE! She was such a pleasure to work with and obviously cares about the patients. There was an issue with my insurance and she was willing to call them multiple times to get it worked out so I could get my glasses. She was also so kind and had great energy! I can’t say enough good things about her :)

I love this place. They CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS. My eye had been bothering me for a week and I had no idea why. I heard about Dr. Barak Maguen from a co-​worker who just had lasik with him. I was more than pleased with his exam, diagnosis and most importantly for me, bedside manner. I tend to get very anxious but he put me at ease and I knew he’d take care of me. I’m so thrilled to have found this place. The staff is fantastic and the care is superior. If you have a loved one in search of an ophthalmologist, I would highly recommend!

I just had a wonderful visit at the American Eye Institute. I have a worsening dry eye problem, and Dr. Barak Maguen expertly examined me, diagnosed me & gave me full and detailed explanations on how to treat my issue. His assistant (Robert) was attentive and professional. The front office people were also very courteous and made my visit easy and pleasant.
The office is easy to find (right off the elevator) and conveniently located on the 3^rd floor of the West tower of the Cedars-​Sinai Medical Towers.
I recommend them highly if you have any eye problem.

I have been going to American Eye Institute for over a decade. Jenia Yadegaran, who is a technician and contact lens specialist is excellent. She does great work on while performing refractions or checking eyes for glasses and contacts lens. She is always there for you, when you need new contact lens, or have any change in vision. She is an excellent team player who works close with the excellent physicians who do a great job. I highly recommend American Eye Institute.

Doctor is ok. It’s hit or miss on the admin staff & the interns. Each time you must give your full history again including any medications they’ve provided & told you to take. It is as if the interns/​staff does not read the patient notes from the last appointment. The doctor seems on top of it. He reads & reviews the previous notes ld just be reading the recent notes.

I have always valued the art of Customer Service because most places you shop these days don’t have a clue. However, I’m thrilled to report EXCELLENT Customer Service in eyewear is alive and well at American Eye Institute Optical Boutique! This is the place to go if you have been driving around town looking for that perfect pair of eyeglasses. They have a great selection of frames (designer and budget) for both men and women, including the brands that are not mass produced like Roberto Cavalli. Vicki, and Stephanie are amazing opticians with years of experience in helping anyone find the PERFECT pair of eyeglass! If you’ve already had your eyes examined bring your prescription, or if you don’t have a copy of your prescription Vicki or Stephanie will call your doctor and have it transferred so they can fill it for you. Lastly, if you need your eyes examined their doctor of optometry will perform a flawless exam. They even except most insurances, I LOVE THIS PLACE!

As someone who has been seeing a eye dr for most of my life, I am saddened to say that seeing Dr Barak Maguen has been the worst doctor experience of my life.
This office is horrible in every way– they are rude, insensitive, and most importantly, they misdiagnosed me multiple times. Keep in mind I only came here for glasses and contacts and waited months only to have them fill my prescription incorrectly multiple times. The fact that they were rude and slow on top of it just made the whole experience that much worse. I was very fortunate in that my insurance was able to «reset» my benefits so that I was able to see a real doctor and get the lenses I so badly needed.

Excellent service. Didn’t have an exam here, the help on picking my glasses was very insightful.

I’ve been going to the eye doctor most of my life and I have to say this place has been one of the worst I’ve ever been to. The exam with the doctors are fine; they only last about 5 mins or so but everything else is horrible. The contacts specialists is not pleasant to deal with at all and is pretty much never around. I had to reschedule twice because she was not in. Finally a fill in was able to order my contacts for me because I told them about the run around I’d already been given. The organization of the technicians and the office that is also a problem; if you leave a message good luck getting a returned call anytime soon. At this place you end up waiting around for at least 20 – 30 mins and paying extra fees for parking; overall it’s not worth coming to.

I’m a patient of Dr Hakim, she’s a very comforting and confident doctor that you can trust completely. I’ve been coming for just regular checkup for the past few years and it is very thorough. I am now scheduling my LASIK eye surgery and I feel comfortable to go through the procedure through her.
I have two problems with the clinic is that the wait time is very long. second is that parking is also very expensive! and because I am never sure how long it can take I can’t even do street parking. I usually park in Beverly Center next door and walk over because it is just way cheaper!

This is a great place. I took my wife here who was suffering from Bell’s palsy and they helped her tremendously with her eye care. She was given a thorough examination and evaluation of her condition in relation to her eye. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the price was affordable. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the American eye institute. There was plenty of parking, the waiting room was comfortable and clean and they were on time with her appointment.

First al all I waited over an hour to see the doctor, they charged me $ 60 for doing absolutely nothing and lastly I had a serious infection in my right eye the the Doctor seemed to mock amd minimize. The doctor acted like she could not wait to get rid of me, even though I had OVER 20 doctors at USC observe my eyes. Very rude, very poorly RN and very uncaring doctors

Given that I lost my glasses in NY about three years ago I figured it was about time I updated that Rx. Cedars Sinai has an outstanding reputation, so it’s my go to when I’m looking for a doctor. Besides, I was born there so I know they do great work ;)
This office was no exception. I don’t usually Unilocal my doctors but I had a great appointment today and they made something that I had been putting off for a very long time basically effortless. Thanks AEI!

AEI and Dr. Ezra Maguen, their staff (Ramona, Julie Veronica, etc.) have all been fantastic. My dad had cataract surgery in both eyes and everything went perfectly. All the appointments were on time and there were no surprises. Dr. Ezra Maguen has excellent bedside manners, doesn’t rush you, genuinely seems to care about his work, speaks 5+ languages and is absolutely an expert in his field of work. We had the surgeries done at Olympia Medical and all went well there as well, very easy to navigate the hospital (the staff there was really nice; Jing, Elvira, Julio). I recommend AEI to all our clients and friends!

Vicki and the AEI is the absolute best! I have bought multiple everyday glasses and sunglasess from them. She has the best taste and keeps me looking top notch. I have been coming here sinde 2006. Thank you Vicki and AEI for keeping me looking great!

I’ve been coming to AEI since 2008. I’m very thankful I was referred to Dr. Hakim. She is a genius and works with me continually on improving my eye and nerve concerns. I see much better now and have much less dizziness. She is an instrumental part of my medical team and suspected a diagnosis the other docs hadn’t considered. She was a squeaky wheel with the other doctors and kept holding to her theory, they did more in depth testing and uncovered the diagnosis that she had suspected. The staff is always friendly, kind, and professional. (The parking garage is a separate entity and should be rated separately from AEI.). Do plan to be here a while.

This review is about the Optical Boutique here. Vicki the proprietor hand picks the best glasses that you can’t find at any of the Luxxotica stores (Sunglass Hut, Ilori, Lenscrafters). She has exquisite, unique taste and wears the classiest cat’s eye glasses herself. She can also fix just about any pair of glasses even if they’ve been in the bottom of your bag. She also sells accessories too. You can also spot celebrities here.

I’ve been coming to American Eye Institute for my optical needs since 2002 and I’ve had suberb customer service on each visit. My whole family only uses AEI for their optical nesds and we would not go anywhere else.

I have been going to American Eye Institute for many years.Dr. Ezra Maguen has been a truly wonderful Ophthalmologist and always their for us. The entire office staff as well as Dr. Maguen has always made myself and my family extremal comfortable and given us tremendous piece of mind for our eye care needs. I’ve had corneal issues for most of my life and I came to this office on a referral from another doctor. I’ve visited many opthamologists before in the past due to my condition but this office has been the worst. Here’s why…
On the day I went it looks like they overbooked their doctors. The waiting room was full, seats probably around twenty to thirty in the waiting room and I was lucky to find a seat. I ended up waiting about 45 minutes to be seen.
The front desk just wants to get you in and out. Questions seem to be a hassle.
My appointment with Dr. Ezra Maguen was fine, when I finally got in to be seen. But when I was seated and waiting for the doctor, I had to be moved into the waiting area again because somebody else had to be seen in that room before me, probably because they didn’t plan properly and their office is run like a cattle call. Another 10 minutes before I got in a proper room.
Then I was referred to their contact lens specialist. I made my appointment to be seen after having visited Dr. Maguen twice to check on my eyes. Halfway through my fitting the doctor came in and told me I needed to see the front desk about my insurance. I have two insurance plans through good providers, Aetna and Cigna, and somehow they couldn’t confirm with the company that my appointment was covered. I’m a little dumbfounded, I mean I’ve already visited this office twice and my insurance covered my visits, why is this time a problem?
So I’m told that I should call my insurance and make another appointment! I haven’t even gotten fitted at this point, I’m HALFWAY through an appointment, and now we’re discussing this? Further, why was I served and approved by my insurance twice at this office and this time is now an issue?
So the final verdict is that if I continue with the appointment I’ll be charged $ 800 for the visit. If I leave MID-​WAY through the appointment they’ll, «help me out» (they call it a «Courtesy Discount» on the bill), and reduce my costs to $ 125.
At this office they charge you $ 125 for an incomplete appointment? That really is baffling to me. Their poor business practice and customer service really leaves me feeling thoroughly screwed over.
Oh yeah, and I called my insurance, I should have been covered for my visit (like my previous two visits) and I never should have been kicked out halfway through an appointment. At this point I don’t even want to try to apply my $ 125 to another visit at this same office. Horrible…
And fyi parking sucks and will cost you around $ 10 for an hour long visit.
