Shout out to the staff and Store manager at this Ace location. Jerry in plumbing was very knowledgeable and knew exactly the tool for my repair.
When they heard the price gouging I received from 7th and Union Hardware the store manager came out to help and went above and beyond in customer service.
I will definitely be back for all my hardware needs.

Such GREAT PEOPLE! Every time I come in I get attention right away from one of the friendly staff. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be there and helping people. Are you kidding? This place is amazing. I was helped within five seconds of entering the door and my dude took me every step of the way through my paint purchase.
Everyone that I came in contact with was extremely nice and helpful. The whole store is very clean and organized. The checkout girl and I rapped about her favorite top 40 jams right now because I’m a DJ and she was getting down while I was in there.
I try to support smaller local businesses whenever I can. This is a great spot and is definitely my new paint and hardware shop.

The best hardware shop with Friendly and Knowledgeable staff. I was in a bind for a upcoming project and the hardware would take 2 weeks from Home Depot for special orders.
I called Alvarado Paint & Hardware the staff was very help full and was able to work with me and offer advice. If you need to place a order for hardware look no further. I ordered by Tuesday and my hardware was available for pick up by Thursday.
They won my business and i will never go back.

I searched around the web last week for a 10ftx10ft canopy for my sons birthday party, for a one time event .So the majority were ranging between $ 90-​$ 140 .Anyway for a one time event this was way to much .I called Alvarado Paint & Hardware and a totally charming, professional and incredibly helpful gentleman called Steve answered the phone and could not have helped me more, locating a canopy as he had sold out, then having it picked up that day by his staff from a distant location and had it ready for pick up the next day at Alvarado Paint .
100% service and matched a sale price of $ 55.00. I would recommend this organisation to anyone that needed good old fashioned honest assistance .

I just moved to the LA area, and with all the work involved getting my new home set up, I can say I’ve had by FAR the best experience going to Alvarado Hardware. There’s no comparison. The staff is extremely helpful and very present. You won’t have to go searching and chasing sales associates down the aisle for help like at other stores. They are eager to help and genuinely interested in your needs, no matter how complicated the project. I was struck by the staff’s enthusiasm and warm nature. Also, it is SO EASY to find everything you need. The layout of the store is very shopper-​friendly and everything is so clearly labeled. I will definitely come here for all my future home needs!

I have been to this store twice and the second visit really made an impression. I had new license plates and, being that I’m new to California, I had not had plates on the front of my car before. When I walked into the store in search of a set of screws for the front plate, the staff was very helpful and then even came outside to help me install the plate. This was definitely going above and beyond, especially since my total purchase was less than $ 1!

Incredibly helpful staff, when you first walk in there’s at least one employee there who immediately asks if they can help you. They always have what I need or have a better option for what I think I need. Which is a really great aspect of this store.
They LISTEN and then they actually help you. They will tell you honestly if there is a difference between brands, and if something works or not and will overall help figure out a solution to a problem or get through a project.
I moved from Oregon within the last year and finding this place has not only saved me money, its also made me excited about doing things around the house. When I go in there now, I’m known to some of the employees and they’ll actually ask me about something I was working on and if it has turned out. Gotta love that.
I started out down here only going to Lowes and Home Depot, and now you couldn’t pay me to go there. Alvarado Paint and Hardware is an incredible example of why mom and pop businesses need to exist in this country.

I always think it’s great when I run into a particular store or business like I did recently in the Westlake area of downtown LA… The Alvarado Paint and Hardware Store, (on Alvarado just below eighth St.) which was started by Steve Gullion’s (The owners) father in 1946. Places like this help raise the «cool factor» of L.A.
You can tell the store has been «thought through» by competent people for generations just by looking through the wide variety of tools, and building supplies, I was pleased but not surprised to see they had their own glass shop in store. The prices were competitive and although it’s not as huge as some stores, if you need it, chances are… they have it! .I spoke with a salesmen or two, they were attentive, helpful, focused, organized and knew about what they sell.
My initial Introduction was actually to its owner Steve… and shortly after that Jesse his son. They contracted me to paint some signs for their store. As a contractor I really appreciate interacting with such «straight up» people. They clearly communicated what projects they would like to do, when they were ready and we discussed logistics for the work. They had amazing follow through! Having been part of that neighborhood for 67 years they have a great sense of respect cross culturally for the people of L.A.
It’s great when you are a contractor of even doing your own home repair to get in, define what you need, get good advice, get supplies, and get going!
I can highly recommend doing business with the people of this store as I think they have good products and an AMAZING service attitude… The store is kind of a landmark of L.A.
