I create a positive obedience/​behavior training program for you and your dog. Designed to make your dog be the best he/​she can be, I make training fun and effective, quickly controlling those annoying habits like jumping, barking, nipping, biting and destructive chewing.

Housebreaking is a specialty, and my unique method of preventing accidents in the home rather than punishing the dog after the fact makes it quick and easy.

Unlimited phone consults for the life of your dog are always included with each basic obedience/​behavior course. You will also receive a beautiful 8×10 portrait of your dog, which I create especially for you.

History

Established in 1982.

Since 1982, I have been doing private, in-​home training for dogs and their owners. I am very proficient at correcting annoying habits like jumping, biting, nipping and chewing/​destructive behavior. I enjoy hearing owners say that their friends and neighbors are complimenting them on their dog’s exemplary and polite behavior after having participated in a private training course with me. I’m very pleased to say that 85% of my business now comes via referrals from happy clients.

Sandy has been the owner/​trainer for Academy of Dog Obedience since its inception. She has a wide range of experience in the dog world, having trained thousands of dogs in obedience, and assisting owners in changing

annoying behavior traits of their dogs into good ones! She spent over 20 years as the Volunteer Coordinator for the LA City Animal Shelter, has rescued many dogs over the years, and has published several articles relating to animal treatment and legislation in the L A Times.

Her current dog is a well-​rounded and balanced Doberman who is a working Therapy Dog (specializing in working with children and making hospital visits), has his obedience titles, and is a retired AKC champion.

He assists her in many private training sessions, helping to socialize and calm some of her more energetic and excitable canine clients.

I am sincerely happy to have met Sandy. After an unexpected aggressive incident from our pit-​bull towards our shih-​tzu, I was really concerned about how we could prevent any future incidents. Our dogs had been living together with us for about seven years and I was really confused about why this attack happened. We were also interested in addressing our pit-bull’s jumping and leash-​pulling issues that we never properly addressed. We had completed puppy training at PetSmart and were told that our dog would eventually «grow out» of these habits but, of course, that never happened. Having house guests over was frequently stressful for us because we did not want our pit jumping on people she could inadvertently injure due to her high energy.
Sandy did not merely show us how to start correcting these issues but also took the time to explain innate dog behavior so we could prevent any future aggression. We were stunned at how well behaved both our dogs were in Sandy’s presence. The best part of all is that she showed us how to continue promoting their obedience after one session of training. It turns out that you can show an old dog new tricks!
We were totally comfortable having Sandy in our home. She is very personable and took her time getting to know our family. Sandy has super reasonable rates and was receptive to work around our busy work schedules. I highly recommend her to any dog owner who thinks their dog’s problematic habits cannot be modified because of the dog’s age. Our dogs are six and seven years old and they definitely have responded well to Sandy’s recommendations. We can’t thank her enough.

I cannot say anything but good words about Sandy and her dog training! I rescued a 2 month old AmStaff puppy back in the summer of 2010. He was a quick learner and a cuddle puppy, but as he reached the age of 1 he began to bark a lot and was so strong that we struggled to walk him.
Sandy offered five session of training where we would address issues we had with our dog. The training helped with barking, crate training, leash pulling, and socializing with other dogs. The trainings were in home, in our neighborhood, and at the silver lake reservoir where we walk often. All were very helpful. We still refer back to her tips years later! We actually completed 4 of the 5 training sessions and didn’t need to complete the 5th. We get compliments on our well behaved dog all of the time.

After 3 surprising aggressive incidents with my very strong (and of course very sweet) 2 ½ yr pitmix I decided to bring in the big guns. I called Sandy based off her Unilocal reviews and website. She came to my rescue on a day she rarely takes clients which I greatly appreciated because I wanted to nip this behavior in the bud asap. She’s was so sweet yet firm with my Zoe. The greatest thing I learned was that although my dog responds well to commands, is happy by nature, and is very affectionate. She is also very strong, has strong «prey drive», and she is not going to ever act like a lab. It’s my job as a responsible pit owner to be a step ahead of her, show her that I am always in charge, and never have her off leash in public. Sandy answered all my questions and I feel confident now that I’ve got my baby under control. Not to mention Sandy is lovely. My dog is more exhausted after an hour and a half with Sandy than a 4 ½ mile hike! Thanks again Sandy! Oh! And her prices are super reasonable!

Sandy was great with my 2 year old pit bull, Stella. Stella’s a rescue and came to us with dog aggression, a typical pit bull that did not have a good home or a bad owner.
Sandy Driscoll at Academy of Dog Obedience was full of information and tips on obedience training, it’s no wonder a majority of her clients are referrals! We are planning follow up training sessions to focus on socializing my pit bull, fix excessive barking, continued training to prevent pulling on her leash, lunging towards other pets, and my dog’s tendency of greeting visitors with jumping.
I have already learned a lot in just one in-​home training session, I look forward to the next few obedience schooling. Sandy has very competitive pricing per session and packages. If you have any problems with your dog, I highly recommend you call Sandy Driscoll.

Sandy just recently helped us with our 12 pound chihuahua mix, who we got as a rescue at 1 year old. By 2 ½ he had become a much more confident dog, but was developing bad behaviors like food aggression, barking at other dogs on walks, and pulling on the leash like a sled dog! Sandy spent an hour and a half with us working on these and a few more issues, and he is like a new dog already! 2 days later and he is walking by our side easily and made it past 4 dogs today without a peep. I can’t wait to see what he can do after we continue to work with him. Sandy is very nice but firm when she needs to be, thorough, and generous with her attention and advice. She clearly loves working with dogs and was very professional. She also makes herself available for phone consultations and issues, which is so helpful in case of emergencies! We are already discussing what a worthwhile investment the training session was! Thank you Sandy!
