1111 Wilshire

The building is fairly new and contains really new facilities. The gym is open 24hrs. The location is really close to the heart of DTLA but not too close where you get all the loudness and griminess of the nightlife. The views from this place are spectacular. I spent a few hours outside just taking it all in.

I lived at 1111 Wilshire for two years.
I generally enjoyed my time there and left due to the rising rent prices that continued to escalate as you cannot lock in prices when signing a lease. The amenities are excellent, our friends were always impressed with what 1111 Wilshire had to offer. The cleanliness of the apartment building as well as the maintenance crew were excellent, they always greeted residents and seemed to enjoy their job.
The cons:
Management– Back when Brook and Zach worked for the building, things could not have been any better. They always greeted residents by name and asked how our day/​jobs were going. They even had quarterly events for residents where they provided food, activities and drinks. They were dearly missed by the entire building.
The new management did not offer gatherings, except for one day when they offered a continental breakfast. We came to not expect things like this or even receiving a hello from the new management. I feel like every time a resident walked by they would purposely look at their computer screen to avoid any eye contact. I noticed Diane would not even say hello to you if you were on the elevator with her, she only appeared content when she was giving a showing to an Asian person. The new property manager was. egh… nothing really stood out as far friendliness. The only friendly person left is the African American woman, I apologize that I forgot her name. She made sure to make eye contact and smile.
All in all, I enjoyed my tenure there but the rent prices became ridiculous.

Sadly because I only make 72,000 a year I don’t qualify to live here. I was excited about the good reviews and great location. I see why there is a rule but I’m hardly rifraf (spelling??) and have an excellent credit history.

Just signed my 4 lease agreement here at 1111 Wilshire and I couldn’t be happier!
The building is nestled here in DTLA, with a great view of the skyline from the roof. The roof is also a great place to grill, relax in the jacuzzi, or just lounge and take in the view.
To be honest the rent is not cheap, but for what you get I think it’s well worth it. I do wish the roof was 24 hours, but understand about noise regulations and having to close it early.
Last, but definitely not least is the team that works here. Diana the assistant Manager has been here since I signed my first lease and is always so pleasant to deal with. Octavio the manager is also a delight, along with the rest of the team!

BEST APARTMENT IN DTLA! I viewed +30 apartments in DTLA before signing with 1111, and 1111 was the best apartment I found (amazing location and price)! It’s been about a year since my move-​in, and I never once regretted my decision! 1111 is located right where Wilshire meets Bixel. The area is extremely clean and quiet, yet at a walkable distance to all the hot spots in DTLA. The apartment is clean and the amenities are great. The best thing about 1111 is the management. I’ve made a few maintenance requests since my move-​in, and the longest it ever took for the management to respond was 2 days. Usually (almost all the time), the management responds within a day and resolves the issue right away. I never had to sit around a wait! The management office is very friendly and always ON TOP OF THINGS (esp. Diana!!). Not once did my package get «misplaced», or «lost» (very important). The management office is open during normal hours (many management offices are MIA), and they’re ready to assist you with whatever you need! The common areas and hallways are always clean and organized. If I could give a 6 out of 5, I would totally do that. I would definitely recommend 1111 to a friend.

2 stars for the amenities and the relative newness of the apartment. However:
1. There are fees, fines and charges for everything. You get fined for every small thing that doesn’t go well, after a while, it gets a little tiring when they add a new fine every now and then. I believe there is now a fee required to book the lounge (there wasn’t last time), and a fine for not picking up packages on time, sporadically enforced towing (feels like they are trying to trap you), etc.
2. The heated pool is not heated warm enough for a comfy swim. It’s on the level of not-​freezing, but it will take you 20mins to get accustomed to the cold water. It makes me stick to the warm-​water-​pipe-​openings because those are the only warm places. The pool is also not deep enough to swim in, more for like playing around or frolicking.
3. The management is slightly volatile and can be snotty sometimes. They are however, always extremely pleasant when showing prospective renters the place. Otherwise, it depends on their mood. So far, I have gotten ¹⁄₃ good mood, ²⁄₃ bored and snotty. The cleaning staff is infinitely friendlier.
4. Having (almost) no guest parking is an huge issue for me. It went from the first floor being guest parking, to exactly 5 spots in a garage that requires a key fob. This means that you have to be the first 5 people to request a guest parking pass, and you will have to let your guest in and out. This guest parking issue is becoming extremely irritating to me. I don’t understand why they keep towing people and have only 5 guest parking spots when most of the garage is empty most of the time.
5. Key fobs fail intermittently. On a random day, your fob will just fail. If it fails after management is off for the day, too bad. You will have to wait for someone to let you in. They refuse to provide extra key fobs even if you offer to pay a deposit for an extra one.
6. The lounge is off-​limits at 10pm. I understand sound rules, but I don’t see a problem if the person using the lounge is being quiet. Since the security roams about, he should be able to discern if the people in the lounge are being loud.
7. Parcels create tensions sometimes. Sometimes the management tells me they can’t find my package (carrier text/​emails upon delivery), and I try again for the next few days. Then, out of the blue I get a «reminder» when they didn’t even send a notice beforehand. The emails sound slightly mean. It is infuriating. Although once, it also happened that my package was presumed missing and almost 2 months later, I get a message telling me something along the lines of you-​forgot-​your-​package-​please-​get-​it-​ASAP.
8. My neighbor upstairs probably have kids that jump up and down in the middle of the night. This doesn’t happen too frequently, but it is still slightly annoying. It is also slightly off-​putting when every once in a while you run into weed-​smelling or half-​way drunk people walking around the building.
9. As other reviewers mentioned, cell phones do not have good connection here. There is no connection whatsoever in the 2^nd floor lounge. (I have AT&T.) And I only get a spotty connection when I make calls right next to my window.
10. The wifi in the lounge is not too reliable. Before you schedule any meetings that require internet in the lounge, you must check if the wifi is working. Usually the signal is there but you can’t connect to the internet. To give them credit, it has been working fine recently, but from past experience, I am very wary.
11. I don’t know if they have been renting out this place on airbnb or as an apartment-​hotel, or the residents are the one doing so for the summer, but there have been lots of tourist-​looking people being somewhat rowdy recently. (Not all, but some.)
12. There seems to be something wrong with my carpets, but I have no idea what it is. Every once in a while, I will step onto a patch that feels like I step onto a nail, but then other times, it doesn’t. I don’t get it, but it hurts when that happens.
13. Limited sunlight in «long» units.
Granted, there are also good sides to this place:
1. The hot tub is always nice when tired.
2. I like that they have a parcel locker. Much better than having to see management for packages. The cleaner-​lockers are also good. (Haven’t tried getting my clothes cleaned, will update when I do.)
3. Parking spaces are quite wide.
4. There is a maintenance person who lives in the building.
5. The building is relatively new and the amenities are good even if you might not use them.
I figured that the good sides of the apartment will be pretty apparent so I focused on what only a resident is likely to know. Overall, 2 stars because this apartment is acceptable but in the long-​run it gets irritating.

I looked for apartments all over LA, took my time to find the right match with a friendly environment. When I toured here with Sheena, not only was she informative and friendly but so were the residents we passed by. The amenities are amazing and well kept. When Sheena was out of the office, Octavio didn’t hesitate to jump in and help me. Professional, clean, prompt, and friendly bldg. You should definitely check this bldg out if there’s an opening.

1. There was an apartment available in my price range so I entered my contact info to see the place ASAP MULTIPLE TIMES. No one got back to me until much later and we scheduled a tour.
2. I get to the apartment, ALL of the parking spaces are covered by cones so I move one and park in the guest area.
3. I wait outside the lobby and call the leasing office multiple times but no one answers. I eventually had to get a security guy outside to open it for me.
4. I wait in the lobby for 15 – 20 minutes. No one.
5. Keep in mind this is 1 hr before closing (they close at 7). The guy comes back from another tour around 6:41 and tells me to wait in the lobby.
6. It is now 6:51 and he is still talking to the other guy. My appointment was for 6:00.
7. I give up on waiting because I have somewhere else to go at 7 and I give him my contact information to reschedule.
8. I go back to my car and there is a warning that they will tow my car. Wtf?
8. No e-​mail, no calls. No follow-​up. Nothing.
9. I check the site this morning and now the unit that I was interested in is gone.

I just finished a one year lease at 1111 and must say that I’m sad to be leaving one of the best apartment complexes in downtown. The area and vibe are great and I hope to return in the future.
The pros:
— Management actually cares when you have problems and are quick to send maintenance on the off chance it is needed
— Lots of graduate students which is great if you are one too
— Fantastic amenities (lounge with study tables and pool table, roof with jacuzzi and ping pong table, two-​story gym)
— The building is always clean, especially communal areas
The cons:
— Limited guest parking
— Pool is situated between two towers so it doesn’t get as much sun as you’d like

We initially loved this place for all its amenities. The gym was one of the nicer ones in DTLA and freeway access was easy. That’s what the 2 stars are for. Other than that, everything proved to be disappointing.
Parking is my number one complain. I pay a good amount each month for my tandem spots, yet I would come home several nights after work with people parked in my spots. We can’t legally call the towing company either, only security can. But the BIGGEST issue is that security doesn’t even begin until after 9pm. So basically from the hours the office closes (about 6 or 7PM), until 9PM, you’re out of luck with parking– with parking that YOU paid for. You basically need to risk getting towed and park in someone else’s spot, or pay to park somewhere OUTSIDE of the apartment. It was honestly ridiculous and not something I wanted to deal with after a long day at work.
My second issue is with management. Our floor received a somewhat threatening email about pet issues. Management had stated that if any dogs *intentionally* pee in the hallway, they would be fined $ 500 dollars for it. Not that I condone of this activity, but first of all, how would you know if your dog «intentionally» peed, seeing as no one can actually speak with their dog? Second of all, $ 500 dollars is a little expensive for scrubbing up pee in the hallway, no? And lastly, what’s the point of collecting pet fees every month if they don’t go toward cleaning anyway? No warning, no nothing. Just an emailing threatening that if pets intentionally pee, we would be fined $ 500.
Noise level is also an issue here. There are students walking around from floor to floor without shoes on, holding red cups. It felt like my freshman dorm.
For anyone who is working full time, I don’t suggest you live here.

As a resident of 1111 Wilshire for nearly two years, I think it was in due time for me to write a review on this wonderful residence. Before signing our lease, my roommates and I were able to meet Max and Diana, who both were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and personable. Both showed us what 1111 had to offer: the many different units and floor plans, the gym, theater room, rooftop, pool, courtyard, resident’s room and the list goes on. Both were able to answer any questions we had and were always prompt in replying to our emails or phone calls. Max no longer works at 1111 as he has relocated, but we are extremely happy and grateful to have Diana still at 1111, as she remains always available to address any concerns or issues we may have.
The perks of living at 1111 are as follows:
— A beautiful and updated gym that is available ²⁴⁄₇
— A theater room that has an immense HDTV as well as surround sound that is also available ²⁴⁄₇
— Gorgeous rooftop that includes a hot tub that overlooks the lights of downtown
— A resident’s lounge that leads into the courtyard where the pool is located
— My personal favorite: a pet friendly building where all the pet owners seem to know each other as well as the dogs seem to know their furry neighbors as well
And my main perk of living at 1111 is the location. Right outside the apartment is a Chase bank and ATM for any banking needs as well as a Wells Fargo which is a block away. For those who need their caffeine fix, a Starbucks is located across the street. For public transportation, busses like the Dash and 20 are right across the street and the 7^th St Metro Station is less than a quarter mile away.
I’d just like to point out even with all these amenities, you need a management team that goes above and beyond for its residents and that is exactly what 1111 does. There will be the occasional hiccups that occur in any building you live in, but 1111 does its very best with its residents’ needs as their top priority. You can’t ask for more as a resident.
–Unfortunately I forgot to add Brook, the property manager, who was also more than accommodating. His office was always open to help answer any questions and he took every one of our issues with concern and solutions in mind. Very friendly as well; you always got a wave when you walked by the office and he was always open for a friendly conversation. Just a wonderful property manager during the time he was with 1111.

I have been living at 1111 for a year and a half and will be moving on at the end of this month. Can’t say enough about the quality of life and service of the leasing team during my stay. Service/​maintenance requests were all handled on or before the next day. The property was very clean and comfortable. Diana and Octavio work with a sense of urgency and always go above and beyond to alleviate any concerns we have.
My roommates and I made plenty of friends here, the residents are fun and friendly. Tons of amenities, they speak for themselves. Proximity to downtown is perfect and nearby stores, restaurants, and entertainment are abundant. The restaurant downstairs, Plan Check, is excellent. Burgers are killer, decent beer choices, and a huge whiskey selection. Arthur and the other bartenders are very skilled and very cool.
Without a doubt, I’d move back one day.

One of my favorite places I have lived at. The staff is great and friendly, especially Zack. I would have conversations with them and they were really genuine people. The facility is kept clean and maintained. For being a Designer, the place was nicely designed and modern, one of my favorite things about our place was the polished concrete floor in my apartment and the partial city view. Wish my new apartment now had all the cool finishes and amenities.
My Husband and I thought this place was a «Young Professional» kind of building, but it also housed a lot of college students and their roommates. This I believe is the only fault about this place. The young people that lives there, with all their parties and friends coming over. Weekends, holidays, and their vacations were the worst because that’s when all the parties would happen. I didn’t mind them so much, since my floor wasn’t that bad, but I can tell other floors were pretty bad, because of the 2 elevators in the building would be full of college students. One of our neighbors were also Young Professionals and just had a baby and would complain about their upstairs neighbors loud music and parties. That was pretty bad, because the walls and floors are super thick! One time, on our floor someone threw up right in front of our door. Pretty gross, but the building cleaned it up right away.
This place was also dog friendly and a couple people had dogs. Liked their roof top dog run area. I just hated that on the roof top, there were irresponsible dog owners that didn’t pick up after their dogs. Which is ridiculous, because they provided dog bags. Lazy ass dog owners!
Other than all that, this building is really close to bars and restaurant inside the DTLA area which is just a block away over the over pass. I liked the fact that it wasn’t INSIDE DTLA, so traffic wasn’t so bad in our area, but you were just a 5 minute walk to the excitement of DTLA.

It’s funny now that I think about it. But when we first moved in the apartment told us if we write a Unilocal review they would refund out application money– which was $ 80 if I remember correctly. Anyways so we did our Unilocal review before ever really living there. (Which you should keep in mind when reading most of these reviews.) So now that we’ve moved out after our year long lease it’s time to tell you how it really was.
First of all the leasing office if horrendous. The only person who would actually help you was Zach, but now that he’s gone good luck. They treat you like you’re wasting their time and give you attitude if you ask them anything.
When we first moved in we were excited to be living somewhere so ‘nice’ and new, but that changed quickly. I woke up after a week and our kitchen was infested with ants. I went down to the office, and they’re reply was ill put a request in for you. Three fun days later, after finding ants on the walls, in the kitchen and in the bathroom a maintenance guy showed up. But that time I had pretty much killed the colony with a bottle of windex– something everyone wishes they could do in the first week of moving somewhere new.
After our ant issue the next problem were the residents. I know hats not we tiredly the apartment’s fault but let’s be real. It’s something that I shouldn’t have to put up with. Listen– I’ve been to college, I’ve gone to parties. When I moved in 1111 I didn’t sign up for the other idiots that don’t know how to clean up after themselves.
Let me paint a picture– a guy gets mcdonalds. Starts eating it waiting for the elevator, finishes in the elevator. And instead of coming out of the elevator and walking ten feet to the trash chute he says «hey, I’ll just leave it on the ground in the elevator, someone will pick it up.» No stupid. You don’t live with mommy anymore. If you’re going to be a slob do it in your own apartment. We are to here to live in your filth.
Another example would be the maintenance management thought it would be easier for them to get rid of a trash can from the third floor in the garage– since all the people who live here are smart and go to usc they just put all their trash on the ground where the trash an used to be. This is what you will deal with. Go Trojans.
Another thing is the dogs. When we moved in I thought it was great people could have dogs. What isn’t so fun is when someone lets their dog poop in the hallway and the owner goes about their way pretending not to see it. Or allowing the dog to pee anywhere and everywhere they want. The roof was a nice place to retreat but it became overwhelmed with dog feces. Exactly the right thing you want to smell while eating dinner or enjoying a drink.
The manager changed about a month before we left, but from what we’ve been dealing with, it doesn’t seem that it has gotten any better. Today is January 5^th. We moved out November 14^th. We still have not received our deposit. We’ve called, the manager says its been mailed out over night by fedex, and a week later it’s still not here. He says he will call you back, email you an update, and make sure that it is being done– none of this has happened. Before we moved out I MADE sure they had our forwarding address and when I talk to Octavio (the manager) he says it was wrong and it was mailed to the wrong apartment in 1111. Why would our new address be in 1111?! This is what you get to look forward to dealing with.
In the beginning I was so excited to move in and near the end I couldn’t wait to move out. Good luck.

I have lived here for a few months now and I really like it! Primarily, the management and maintenance staff members are great. They’re all very friendly and helpful. One thing to consider when you live in a place like this is… the staff cannot control evetything that goes on. You cannot truly understand this until you have worked in property management yourself.
There are a LOT of USC students here-​when we were shopping around, I had assumed we were far enough away from that campus. Unfortunately, a lot of the kids are young, rowdy, untidy and disrespectful. Furthermore, they have no sense of money or responsibilty because they are not paying the bills. However, the office staff does their best to address any issue you report to them and there is an enforcement procedure-I’ve seen these efforts just in the short time I’ve lived here.
The common areas are almost always clean and there is a new security company keeping better «order» if that’s what you want to call it.
The guest parking could be improved. Since move-​in, it has changed-​I really think the commercial workers should be parking behind the resident gate since they have key access anyway. We definitely need more guest parking options and we have room to do it-​whether it be behind or in front of the resident gate as it was before.
Overall, a great location and beautiful building!

I was so happy to call 1111 Wilshire home for the time I lived there. The staff is super friendly and helpful, first of all. They are always smiling and ready to help. The building is barely a year old and is beautiful– I was the first person to ever live in my unit! There were rarely any issues I experienced. The kitchens are modern and beautiful and the units come with a washer/​drier as well as lots of closet space! If we had an issue, maintenance would always fix it ASAP. There is a 2-​level gym with lots of new equipment and a big roof with a pretty view where people can take their dogs, lounge in the chairs/​hot tub, or just hang out.
It is a gorgeous, secure building that always felt safe. The only negatives for me were noisy neighbors sometimes– but that can’t really be avoided at many apartments. And you can only pick up most packages before 6pm– they are in a locked mail room and the staff can only get them for you when they’re working during the day. But overall, I absolutely loved living here and would 100% recommend it if you are wanting to live downtown. 1111 Wilshire is the way to go!

We Initially loved this place. Although it was pricey it was brand new and had great amenities and that’s what the two stars are for. The gym was also one of the nicest I’ve seen in an apartment complex. Our unit was also a decent size. They managed to keep it pretty clean despite the fact other residents constantly trashed it (they rarely enforced rules about smoking, littering, parking in guests spots, etc.). Also, speaking of parking, they took away more than half the guest parking which was only a few spaces to begin with and made it into retail parking. There was no indication beforehand that this would happen and it kinda sucks when guest parking is one of the reasons we picked the place.
I agree with the previous reviewer about the terrible cell service (had to get a land line) and the fact that retail didn’t come as quickly as they said. Also, although the amenities were nice they weren’t always usable. Remotes would be missing, wifi constantly down in common area, supposedly heated pool was always cold, tv’s and gym equipment would be out of order. Most importantly, the garage gate was broken for months meaning that the $ 150 parking was entirely unsecured. Also, there were a couple times the gates broke and we were trapped in the building.
One of our biggest problems was that we had a neighbor that started playing music at all hours shortly after we moved in (sometimes 12 plus hours a day and often all night). We repeatedly reported it and the problem was never resolved even at the time we moved out. Management would not take care of it and the security company was no help. We would call and the person on the phone did not even know where the complex was but would say a security person would come to talk to us. This never happened and we never received call backs. Our other complaint is that at lease renewal they tried to raise the rent on our one bedroom apartment almost $ 200. A higher rate of increase than even most of the other complexes that are actually downtown and not as out of the way.
We moved out in August and we still have not received a refund for our deposit. We also have some packages there that the leasing agents refuse to look for. Overall, for the price you can find something with better management and without frequent fire alarms, water shut offs, and things like the time they were thinking of evacuating the entire building for hours so that they could put a new machine in the gym. Leasing agents seem nice at first but if any type of issue ever comes up, they will be completely ineffective. Neither the leasing office nor corporate are likely to get back to you.

I would just like to start off by saying THANK YOU to Brook, Diana and Zach. You guys are all so great and have made my time here at 1111 VERY, VERY enjoyable. :) Diana, I appreciated you getting my paperwork done SUPER fast when I moved in, it helped me SO MUCH! Zach– Really appreciate all your help on a daily basis, you’re always so nice and helpful! And Brook, I really appreciate you always checking in to make sure everything was good and that I had no issues with my apartment. You always cared about how your residents were doing! Also, SUCH a fun Superbowl party haha and the fact that the Seahawks won helped too!
I have lived downtown for almost 7 years now and have literally bounced around from apartment building to apartment building down here. I can absolutely say that this is the best one!!! No joke. I’m REALLy sad that I am moving out but its not because of any other reason than my job. I moved in a month after they opened and although in the beginning, they were still doing some finishing touches (understandable), it has been just such a great place to live and the management has been extremely accommodating!
I have a junior one bedroom (basically a one bedroom without the door) and it has by far been the best apartment I’ve ever been in. Besides the fact that everything was brand new, the layout of this unit was perfect for me! Every one of my friends always mentioned how nice my apartment was (I’m a bit of a clean freak too haha) and how they would LOVE to live in something like it! I’ve never had a problem with noise from my neighbors, the walls are definitely built to keep out sound out from other apartments. There were occasionally thud noises from the apartment above but that’s expected anywhere. I keep my window open all the time so the street noise is a bit loud when buses go by but honestly not bad at all! Only thing is the construction going on, on the main floor but they should be done very soon so shouldn’t be an issue!
The building is extremely clean. I also love the gym! It’s very nice and always clean as well! Also, they recently started offering yoga on the roof based on the feedback from residents so THEY DO LISTEN WHEN YOU HAVE IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS! :)
Overall, if you’re looking for a building to live in downtown, you should definitely consider living here! I honestly don’t write many reviews on Unilocal but I had to for this building because of the amazing experience I’ve had here!
