The Savory Bite is a start-​up, woman-​owned boutique catering service that specializes in global-​fusion cuisine. I love to cook foods from different cuisines using a mix of traditional and local ingredients. I will develop a customized party concept for you with beautifully presented foods so that you can relax and enjoy your party or event without worry.

I will work within your budget to source organic and/​or conventional ingredients from local and specialty stores, farmer’s markets, and the Northern CA community-​supported agriculture (CSA) program.

Try the Savory Bite for «intimate» parties (up to 100 guests), personal chef service, small business catering, and broker’s tours within the Peninsula and South Bay Area!

History

Established in 2009.

The Savory Bite Catering was born of my passion to work in the professional food world after a career in technical writing and years of cooking and entertaining guests. After culinary school I had the option of corporate dining or restaurants. I found that high-​production cooking was too hard on my body! The Savory Bite combines my talents as a cook, writer, and former manager with my desire to thrive as a career-​changer and small business owner.

I grew up in Palo Alto in a tight-​knit Cantonese Chinese family. Our frequent gatherings centered around large quantities of well-​seasoned food, either prepared at someone’s home or at a favorite Chinese restaurant. My grandmother was an excellent traditional cook; my grandfather was an excellent food critic; and they gave frequent 12-​course banquets. I ate whatever was presented to me, which in turn taught me how to be adventurous about «strange» foods. I love everyone’s cuisines. No matter what country or locale I travel to, I want to eat like Anthony Bourdain. I want what the locals are having and I want to learn how they made it.

I started culinary school at age 44. A wife and mom of 2, I joined my classmates who were close to my daughter’s age. Along with skills and cuisines, I learned how production cooking really differed from home cooking. I graduated from CCA in SF and decided a catering business would be my dream.

Adrienne is wonderful. She catered our combination 25th Anniversary and my husband’s 60th birthday party. I had never catered a party, and she worked with me from the beginning to help me make it personal and special. I like lots of vegetables and fresh foods, and she suggested a Mediterranean theme. She knew where to get beautiful fruits and vegetables and specialty items like yummy breads and olives. We discussed the preferences of my guests and decided on a dessert mix of half cupcakes and half berry tarts (not one tart was left over! They were super!). Also important was budget. When the guest list turned out to be quite a bit larger than we anticipated, Adrienne helped simplify the menu without sacrificing any quality to help us stay within budget. The evening turned out to be cold, so we made some spur-​of –the moment changes to the timing and placing of the food which she handled with no problem. She is the ultimate professional, hostess, and very nice person. If you choose her as your caterer you will not be disappointed.

Adrienne is quite the Hostess with the Mostess. Her catering not to mention the presentation of each course is amazing. And if you don’t have a theme – she’ll come up with one. Bravo!!!

Adrienne catered our house warming party and did a fantastic job. We had upwards of 70 people come thru over a 4 hour period. She worked with us on a menu that fit our needs including accounting for vegetarian guests and children.
The food was amazing! Everyone raved about it. They kept the food flowing at the right pace and the portions/​amounts were dead on. She made Veggie soba noodles served in mini take out boxes w/​chopsticks that were loved by adults and kids. The veggie satays and potato curry puffs were also big crowd pleasers. And her strawberry cupcakes are to die for with fruit inside and amazing frosting.
She is easy to work with and flexible and definitely made our party a success. I highly reccommend her services to anyone throwing a party large or small.

Adrienne was referred by a good friend, and she turned out to be an absolute life-​saver (party-​saver!) for me. I love to host parties, and used to prepare the food, serve it, and then clean up all by myself. However, now we have 2 kids, and there is no time to deal with all of that! Adrienne has helped me with 2 parties this past month (April 2009), each with different requirements for the catering. The first was a family oriented party at our home, with a total guest count of 75. The other one was a sophisticated shower for my stylish friend, with 24 guests. Adrienne was extremely flexible, cost-​sensitive, time efficient, very creative & versatile. She was always very friendly and professional. Her abilities were obvious from the quality and appearance of the dishes — the taro bread open-​faced sandwiches she artfully prepared were impressive, and garnered many compliments from the guests. In my opinion, her cupcakes were far superior to the ones found in a cupcake boutique like Sprinkles. Her skills were made even more apparent with her very clever approach to addressing a last-​minute issue with one dish! Thanks to Adrienne, I was able to throw 2 very successful parties. She is definitely a keeper for my future parties! I highly recommend Adrienne for reliable, creative, and delicious catering.
