Adam and Micheline Kemist owned The Runners High in Menlo Park and Los Altos for almost fourteen years (1995 – 2008) with great success. The Runners High had an excellent reputation for individualized customer service, product knowledge and expertise in fitting shoes to any foot. The Runners High maintained a five star rating from Yelp and Adam and Micheline were consistently recognized for their service and community involvement.

In the spirit of The Runners High, On Your Mark Performance is dedicated to providing customer support, technical knowledge and expertise and the highest quality of available products to its customers. We enjoy providing a high level of service to customers by keeping in close contact with companies about their updates and innovations and by having in-​depth knowledge of these products. Business Owner

Adam has the advantage of being a board-​certified pedorthist with biomechanics expertise and knowledge of specialty walking and running footwear. The depth of knowledge in foot and leg function is what drives the customer experience here at On Your Mark Performance. Adam has the ability to fill orthotic prescriptions and evaluates for custom insoles. The process involves stepping on a footbed of pins that map the plantar surface of the foot. The digital scanner made by Amfit generates a perfectly contoured insole. He creates custom insoles and orthotics by appointment.

Adam is also certified in Kinesio taping. Kinesio tape is an elastic tape system designed to work with the body to enhance performance and healing.

Adam is super helpful. He’s given me custom inserts on multiple shoes that I own and my shoes have never been so comfortable. Generally everyone that works here is VERY attentive and listens to customer needs. I’ve had great experiences all around with On Your Mark and I’ll be coming back for all my running needs. They let me return insoles that I didn’t like, after I had already worn them for a couple days! I doubt any other company would take insoles back like that. Adam also repaired multiple shoes for me, for free! This is a great company with great customer service.

Came in here looking for comfortable insoles for my normal walking shoes. Adam was very attentive and incredibly helpful. He was very knowledgeable about how I walked and looked at the shape of my foot to help me choose a proper insole that felt comfortable. Really appreciated how knowledgeable he was and he made buying something I know nothing about easy.

Awesome service! My daughter was fitted for running shoes, had her running gait analyzed and given the owners email if she had questions. I couldn’t have asked for more.
Beware, downtown Los Altos police gave me a parking meter ticket on the main street when I ran over the time limit by 7 minutes. My fault but what a bummer! If you plan to shop and have a meal, you wont make it. I think the parking in the lots in the back are longer time limits…

Went in because of frustration trying to find shoes that worked for me. I tried to explain what I wanted in other stores, but due to me not knowing much about running shoes didn’t feel like I was able to get across.
I got to On Your Mark and the staff immediately engaged with me about the problems I was having with my current shoes and brought out a bunch of models for me to try, listened to my feedback about each one, and fine tuned what I needed. I thought that the shoes I had been wearing were maybe a 7/​10, but when I found shoes that *actually* fit it made it clear that my previous shoes were actually more like a 3⁄10.
I now have great shoes that actually fit my needs, a revelation.

The young sales woman named Osipova Anaide rushed to help an Asian woman who arrived after me. While she was helping me. Or I should say instead of helping me by bringing me the shoes she rushed to help a woman from fresh. Where are your manners?
Even the Asian woman was kind enough to say to the saleswoman «I believe that man was before me! After she spent three minutes with her.»
Ordinarily buying shoes is a happy experience. Now I’m not even sure I can trust her judgement.
And they had little mermaid music playing.

Met Adam, the owner at the Double Road Race and told me he had a good selection of shoes and running clothes that would fit my mini road race champion son! That was last August!
Six months and 13 medals latter I called knowing I’d be in the area today… called and Adam discussed the fitting and testing procedure he would do and after a 7.1 mile training Run in the area, we found the cool store!
A pair of fitted Brooks and a «13.1» sticker later a photo with Micheline, the co-​owner and Saturday we test the racing shoes! I will be back and purchase more shoes! Very helpful and nice folks who know running shoes! Thanks On The Mark! See you soon!

This is a great spot for shoes. Folks at OYM are highly intelligent and knowledgeable when it comes to footwear and the individual. I recently purchased a pair or Topo’s that wore out faster than expected due to being a defective pair and without question Adam offered me a swap for a pair of Inov-8’s which has been my go to shoe for about 2 ½ year’s.

After two recent pregnancies, my feet had changed and my running shoes were causing discomfort. It was time for new shoes, but instead of ordering a pair online and dealing with the hassle of back and forth exchanges, I felt I needed to see someone to determine what my new needs were and ensure a successful transaction. After some online research, I discovered On Your Mark and Adam Kemist.
While I interacted with a few other On Your Mark associates, it was Adam who patiently worked with me to find shoes that were comfortable and suited my new needs. Patience doesn’t even begin to describe Adam though. He listened to my complaints, examined my feet, then provided footwear and insoles to resolve the pain I had in my old shoes. By the time I left On Your Mark, I not only had two pairs of shoes and a pair of insoles to get me back in action, I had had one of the best customer service experiences I’d ever had! Unfortunately one of the pairs of shoes was causing the same discomfort I had in the first place, so I returned to see Adam, again. After even more of his expert attention, I left with another pair of shoes and some socks.
If ever anyone deserved a glowing Unilocal review, it is Adam and the On Your Mark team! I previously read a review that someone felt their prices were high (which I don’t agree with), but after the care and attention I received there, I wouldn’t care if they were. He probably lost money after all the time he spent working with me — sorry to be THAT customer, Adam! But people, he’s worth his weight in gold! I live an hour away (two hours round trip) and as long as On Your Mark is in business, I’ll happily give them my business time and time again! I couldn’t recommend them more!

We have been very pleased with On Your Mark. We love the variety of clothing and other merchandise that Adam and Micheline carry. Most important though is their customer service. The extensive knowledge they have is superior to any shoe store I’ve been to anywhere. Adam is a master in not only fit but in problem solving. He will not give up. However, last time we were in, my son had been experiencing heel pain for a couple of weeks. Adam took the time to talk to him and instead of trying to sell us a new pair of shoes, he added an insole to the shoe. The pain was gone the next day. On Your Mark is not just our go to place, it’s the only place we get shoes for our son and athletic shoes for my husband and me. Keep up the great work!

I recently started getting into running and realized the one pair of running shoes I’ve had forever are crap. I saw this place on Unilocal and decided to stop by for a new pair (ever heard of this method called «buy expensive gear so you’re forced to work out?»).
I should’ve asked for the sales associate’s name, but forgot to. But she greeted me in the most friendly fashion and began working her magic immediately. I’d read the reviews and knew to bring my own running shoes (which you should definitely do), and she first took me out to the street and made me run in them. She told me that the shoes are NOT good for me (which explains why my ankles have been hurting) and then took me back in. She then measured my feet and started pulling out these shoes that she thinks would be great for me.
She pulled out four pairs, and she made me run outside in all of them. All of them were so great, I had a hard time deciding which pair to buy. So then she made me try on different pairs on each foot and compare that way. So I finally was able to narrow it down to the best pair for me and walked out the store happily with them.
I am by no means an expert at anything to do with running/​exercising/​gears but she made it super easy and painless! Now I’m so excited to go run with my shoes! :)

I was recommended here by a friend, as we’re training together for a half marathon and my current running shoes are oooooooold. I was planning to just get more or less the same shoes from DSW, but she strongly urged me to check out On Your Mark.
So, when I was down the peninsula this weekend, I did, and I am SO HAPPY I did.
The staff member who helped me, Elise, was friendly and professional. She did a great job of explaining to me all about the different kinds of shoes and what she was going to take into consideration while helping me find the right pair. She fitted me, assessed my movement, and brought me a wide variety of shoes. She watched me run in each pair, and we broke down how the shoes worked together, narrowing the field till we found the perfect pair.
I’m taking my new sneakers for their inaugural run tomorrow, and I’m really excited! The best part? On Your Mark understands that a quick jog down half a block doesn’t necessarily guarantee the shoe will work for 10+ miles at a go, so Elise told me that they will do exchanges or returns, even on worn shoes, for a window after they’ve been purchased. (However, considering how helpful and knowledgeable Elise was, I doubt I’ll need to take them up on that!)
Although I spent twice what I probably would have at DSW, I feel really confident that my body is going to appreciate the extra expense (and I never felt pressured!). I’m thrilled with my shoes, and amazed at how much there is to know about how running and shoes work. I will definitely return to On Your Mark when I need to replace this pair in the future!

I finally went into On Your Mark for the first time the other day, when my neighbor mentioned that the sneakers that she was wearing was from that store. In the 2 years that it’s been in town, I never thought about going in… I’ve been missing out.
Great store!
* Incredibly helpful, knowledgable staff
* Amazingly cute apparel
* Good selection of shoes, not just running, but for all sorts of training
I’m still in the middle of deciding what shoe to buy next, but the women who was helping me was very helpful. She recommended:
1) bringing in the other pair of shoes that I ordered online to compare against the one in their store
2) to bring in my old shoes to see what longevity was left in them, and
3) to come back for a gait analysis.
This is a store worth checking out!

I’m happy to say that they were able to give me a price adjustment for my Nikes, and they were really nice about it. Sort of weirded me out that they weren’t really checking for the current sale price though (like an occasional check of what their competitors were selling them for).
Great service all around. One star off for the lack of selection of minimalist running shoes — I would’ve liked to see a greater variety.

Had to come in here to get running shoes for the 5k Color Run. I usually just buy whatever on a need basis, but decided to get some decent shoes this time (They’re all covered in colored powder now from the race, but I don’t care: p) For some reason, I felt some awkwardness and pain in my right foot and not sure what it still is (kind of strained after the run as well). Kelley tried feeling what was wrong and massaging it a little, but didn’t come to a distinct conclusion. She was very helpful and patient as I complained about shoe after shoe. $ 20 for $ 10 deal here, so got some minimalist shoes for a shade under $ 110 after it was all said and done.
Shoes fit great and are light, but still feeling a strain on my right foot, but I’ll just deal with it. Parking around 4pm was a hassle however and had to park out back.
Can’t really compare it to other specialized shoe stores, but I was satisfied with my shoes and the service here. Would like to go into one of those stores where they read how you walk on a machine and see if I need some certain type of shoe for my weird right foot: S
**Adam sent me a message on here after the review above asking me to come back in to have a look at my foot. I stopped back in and he was very helpful and patient and ended up adding a little support to the soles, which will hopefully alleviate the pain a little bit. Great shop; highly recommend**

in keeping with my running theme, i’m reviewing another great running store in silicon valley.
located in downtown los altos, this is the closest running specialty shop to where i live, so i frequent this location when i’m need of running clothes, nutrition, shoes, or accessories.
while i like the small «family-​owned» and «homey» feel, the selection is a bit smaller than most other running and sports shops that i visit, so at times, i may not find a particular style that i want or a size that i need.
customer service is great as i’ve always been greeted very warmly by the staff and made to feel like i’m family when i stop in. their dressing rooms are well lit and very clean. the store layout is also very organized and easy to follow.
they have a free run club that meets every monday and wednesday morning at 6am, outside the store. distances range from 3 – 5 miles.
there’s also a calendar of local running events posted on their window which is a great resource if you’re looking for a local race to participate in.
