Altos Family Optometry

Can’t understand all the positive reviews here. Called for a copy of my RX after moving away and they refused to give it to me. Downright dishonest.

Excellent and personable optometrist. sensitive sales assistant with a good eye for what frames will be most becoming. So glad they are right at Rancho, just a mile or so from my home.

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Lodenquai and her staff. I have been going to Altos Family Optometry for more than 5 years and I have consistently had excellent service; professional and efficient staff, expert and thorough eye exams. Dr Lodenquai has the latest state of the art technology to detect any eye problems early. She also has a great selection of glasses to choose from. I highly recommend Altos Family Optometry.

BEWARE! car salesman tactics are used here! I was diagnosed with glaucoma (or beginnings of) and told that I needed more exams including an expensive eye photography/​test. This obviously send me into a «medical anxiety» (why?, how?, really?, this has never being told to me before! etc, etc.) I had to schedule appointments with an specialist, costing me more time, money and dealing with the anxiety since that no doctor has appointments right away. The specialist told me that I have NOTHING, total misdiagnosis! the motives are somehow unclear: incompetence or trying to upsell the exams. NOT GOING BACK EVER AGAIN!

My first time needing glasses, and Dr. Lodenquai and her staff were very helpful and friendly. Had a tough time deciding what glasses to get. Jennifer was tremendously helpful and patient with me. I really appreciate their time and help with my indecisiveness. Would recommend them in a heartbeat!

My wife and I had been going to Dr. Lodenquai’s for a few years, and we are thoroughly impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of Dr. Lodenquai and her staff. We actually were referred to her by another very satisfied client. They have an excellent selection of the latest styles, and her staff is great (and very patient) in helping us pick something. We’ve purchased prescription glasses, sunglasses, and contacts, and have been very happy with the results. Also, we’ve definitely broken a screw or scratched a lens, and they have been very quick and attentive to get them repaired very quickly.
Dr. Lodenquai and her staff are some of the friendliest people I’ve met with, and they all have excellent knowledge in what is best for your eyes. We moved out to the East Coast, so we are sad we can’t use Dr. Lodenquai’s services anymore. But we will definitely stop in when we are back in the Bay Area to visit — especially since we haven’t found a similarly great optometrist out here yet!

The doctor is excellent all around — This week she came in on her day off because my daughter scratched her cornea. She is extremely personable with a very good bedside manner especially for children.
She is also very caring. She had continuously stayed in touch with me and is tracking a medical condition with my eyes.
Her two staff are very attentive, very responsive and personable. They’re totally on top of things. In short, I wholeheartedly recommend her and her practice to any family.

I have only good things to say about Altos Family Optometry, the location, easy parking in Rancho Shopping Center, the friendly & knowledgable staff and especially Dr. Susan Loudenqui.
I knew Susan at her former location in Downtown Los Altos. She has always been professional and friendly. I saw her practice grow over the years. She even appealed to a VIP client list…
Susan is well educated, patient, has excellent people skills and offers solutions. Over the past years, I have met with other optometrists and graduated from reading glasses to progressive lenses and couture frames. Susan even helped me with existing eyeglasses. I normally do not write comments unless we’re evaluating an exceptional product or service. That is the case with Altos Family Optometry.

Went here to get replacement lenses for my glasses.
First, went to get an eye exam and that went fine. Put in an order for new lenses.
Lenses took a while (i have rimless drill mount), so it took about 2 weeks. When I got the glasses, they were not mounted/​drilled properly. Altos Family Optometry should have QC’d the glasses before calling me in. I told them of this and they sent them back to the lab. Waited 2 more weeks and now I have my glasses.
Lenses themselves are pretty good. Time will tell if they will yellow, scratch, etc. But right now, I have an new set of lenses in my glasses. Prescription is a good match as well. I just wish that their lab quality was better and that AFO’s QC before calling the customer was better.
One of my previous glasses was from Lux in palo alto. They had a similar issue with their rimless not being done properly, and they sent it back asap and notified me of the delay. I was not happy that they did that, but it was better than me discovering the problem and then requesting that it be fixed.

Went over here after reading the reviews, had a child that needed to have a vision test done. The staff was very friendly, and Dr Lodenquai good also– but it’s nothing exceptional– and how children are dealt with is not anything that I would drive over for again…

I tried out Altos Family Optometry for the simple reason that it is close (walking distance) from my house in Los Altos. Now I wonder why I didn’t use this logic before because it works, and I’m very happy with the service there. I have been wearing glasses since I was a teenager, now I’m middle age, and never really felt like prior service providers (optometrists) were the type of place that I’d recommend, more like a transactional experience. Altos Family Optometry is the opposite.
At first I ordered new glasses, prescription progressive bifocals, and found not only Dr. Lodenquai, but the entire staff there to be friendly and helpful. Service and communication are prompt and professional, they never kept me waiting, and I am so pleased that I recommended my wife try it too. She also bought some prescription glasses and then passed the recommendation to my older daughter, who bought some prescription glasses as well. That’s 3 pairs in 2 months and my wife and daughter are equally pleased.
On a recent visit, Dr. Lodenquai mentioned that there are new «mutlifocal» contact lenses that would be appropriate for me. I’ve never had contacts before because I didn’t know the technology would permit both distance and reading together. So I thought I would try them out. She helped me find the right brand and prescription and now I am surprised how wonderful contact lenses can be.
One nice thing is that they are happy to make appointments and are always right on time, which is very convenient. And there’s a frozen yogurt shop and Starbucks less then 30 seconds away to make a visit even nicer.
The Service is A+. I can recommend without reservation and expect to be going to Altos Family Optometry until I move away, or die of old age.

Having worn glasses since I was in middle school (and now in my 40’s), I have visited many an eye doctor. Dr. Lodenquai is by far my favorite. Why? She is patient, knowledgable, clear, kind, interested, really cares about her patients and the health of their eyes and vision.
New to the area, I first found her through Unilocal, so many positive comments — I had to see for myself. I had been one of those who wore my contacts throughout the night never allowing my eyes to breathe (I am so blind that I hated opening my eyes to the blur) — she could tell this in our first eye exam. She gently but firmly explained the importance of allowing my eyes to breath, in the very least over night. She suggested I wear my glasses at night and in the morning — take your contacts out at night and just keep your glasses by the bedside — you’ll get used to it, and it is important. I did. She also helped me pick contacts that were the most breathable.
Dr. Lodenquai always asks me how I am doing, how my grandmother is doing… she remembers our conversations from way back. AND she really cares. AND I don’t think I am the only one she treats this way — it is simply her way. It’s kind of an old fashioned way, from a time where people stopped and looked you in the eye and really listened and shared. It is the way it should be, I think.
Her staff is a reflection of her, professional and personal — Pam, Jennifer and Jo have always been very helpful. Pam confirms my appointments and reminds me when my yearlys are coming up… Recently, Jennifer helped me try on about 20 pairs of glasses as I went back and forth between this and that one. I never got the sense that I was being too picky or slow. I so appreciated the time she took with me, and the help in choosing frames that I felt good in!
Today, I noticed a little table and chairs set up, with crayons and paper to color on. Such a sweet little area — Dr. Lodenquai had put this there for the children so that the mommies could get their exams while their toddlers played. She is a mom of three so knows the challenge of keeping young ones engaged while you are having to take care of «business». This kind of thoughtfulness puts her and her staff above and beyond the rest.
I am very thankful and happy for having found Dr. Lodenquai!

My kids and I really like going to see Dr. Lodenquai! Dr. Lodenquai is great with kids and her new office has a great setup for kids.
Dr. Lodenquai is very thorough with the eye exam. She asks me a lot of questions and makes good recommendations (like good contact lens and fish oil). Her staff is very friendly and professional. My husband recently got new eye glasses. They had him make a glasses fitting appointment to make sure glasses fit right. I thought that was really good customer service.

Dr. Susan Lodenquai is an excellent eye doctor. She is very patient and professional and does not pressure you into purchasing anything. You best interest is her objective. The office has an good selection of frames for the whole family.
The staff is very professional and provides outstanding service to meet all customer requests. I highly recommend Dr. Lodenquai’s services to everyone. You will not be disappointed!

Dr. Lodenquai is an exceptional optometrist! I had just graduated school and was looking for an optometrist. I searched Unilocal reviews, and found Dr. Lodenquai. At first I was skeptical, because I had never searched for a doctor via Unilocal,but boy was I glad!
Dr. Lodenquai and her team take great care with your vision care and ensure that it is exactly what you need. They take their service one more step, and really make you feel like you are part of their family. While I only go in once a year to get my eyes checked, every time I visit seems like we just spoke yesterday. Bedside manner is of great importance to me, right below the vision care itself — both of which are great here.
I would recommend anyone I know to visit Dr. Lodenquai and her team!

We are a family of 8 and have been seeing Dr. Lodenquai for a few years now. She is very patient and provides wonderful service. Her staff is very friendly and accomodates for our big and busy family!

Dr. Lodenquai is the utmost professional when it comes to your eyes. Unlike some other optometrists where you feel like you’re being rushed out for their next appointment. Dr. Lo really cares and takes the time to figure our the best treatment. She is without a doubt the best optometrist ever! I’ve come to learn that she is also a very devout Christian which speaks volumes in my book. Thanks for all your help Dr. Lo.

I love Dr. Lodenquai!
She is very professional, knowledgeable and caring. She goes out of her way to make sure you get the right treatment and prescription. She spent extra time with me asking me questions about my work and activities and what would be best for me. I spend a lot of time on my computer for work and she gave recommendations on what I can do to keep my eyes healthy.
When I ordered contact lenses, she made sure I got the best deal and gave me samples of solutions. It’s so nice to get some good personal service! I recommend her to anyone and everyone!

Dr. Lodenquai may quite possibly be the Dr. Karen Ho of the optometric world.
She’s very patient, and take the time to explain everything you want to know. You feel like you’re the only patient she has when you’re there. She explains all your options, explains anything you want to know (i learned about diopters from Dr. Lodenquai on my last visit.)
A quaint little office, she doesn’t have a big selection of glasses, but she can order just about anything you want and use your insurance to credit towards it.

In a world contingent upon results and nothing but results, Dr. Lodenquai is a fresh breath of air that mixes quality care with honest results. I recently elected to try the Paragon Corrective Lenses Treatment hoping that I would be able to correct my vision and be able to see without contact lenses during the day. The treatment involved wearing hard lenses that would push on my cornea.
Prior to treatment, I bombed Dr. Lodenquai with question after question and she was always helpful with her responses. She never pushed me to make a decision and always left the ball in my court. She also warned me about the potential downfalls of this treatment, thus letting me know that she was not in it to make false promises and take my money.
During treatment, my eyes became unbearably irritated, but she kept encouraging me and exhausting all alternatives to make things work. However, she did not push me over any boundaries or turn the treatment into some torturous routine. I felt that she truly had a vested interest in my success through this procedure. Furthermore, she modified the «typical» treatment schedule to tailor it to my unusual situation, which made the treatment seem more tailored rather than manual.
Finally, the procedure was not a success, but I felt that Dr. Lodenquai had exhausted all options on my behalf and truly gave me the best chance in this endeavor (yes, we spent about a little over a month trying to get me acclimated). At the end of the day, she offered to refund my deposit less the cost of the lenses — very fair, considering I had also made multiple visits and received multiple consultation over that time period.
Conclusion: Though certain treatments might be successful for some and dreadful for others, the quality of the treatment makes all the difference in the world. My treatment was a failure, but I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Lodenquai to any of my friends who are curious about the Paragon CRT treatment. I would not hesitate recommend her for general O.D. needs, as well, as I am certainly sticking with her.
Where else would I find honest, quality care that’s right around the corner?
P. S. She also has a little treasure box of toys for the kids — I almost became jealous when I saw her present it to someone else.
