Cecilia Chu, MD

I’ve been going to her now for almost 3 years and I’m about to have my second child with her. I couldn’t imagine going to anyone else, there’s no one as good as she is. She is an amazing doctor and person.

most have complained about the long office wait & yes they are long. Sometimes too long, but Dr Chu is a popular doctor and theres a reason why– she’s great & that’s why she’s so darn busy! She’s never rushed me out of the office like some have mentioned… OB for almost 4 years

I totally understand comments about timeliness, personally I haven’t been seen sooner than 45 minutes after my appointment time. BUT! It’s not because Dr. Chu doesn’t manage her time well, it’s because she is in such high demand, because she is such an amazing doctor.
Dr. Chu is an ACOG fellow, meaning she went above and beyond the requirements of an OBGYN, and as such I know I am receiving care second to none. She is expeditiously decisive because her knowledge is vast and honed by experience. She is warm and personable and has always given me her undivided attention.
I plan ahead, assuming I can return a few emails or get some other work done while I wait, and leave wiggle room in my schedule. That is all it takes on my end for me to have a 5 star experience. There is no substitute for experience and skill, and I know I am in great hands with Dr. Chu.
Addendum: regarding her staff, they are surprisingly prompt compared to other medical offices I have used. They have always gotten back to me faster than expected, scheduled me promptly, and made sure everything was covered by my insurance beforehand. And they are friendly :)

I have never felt so rushed out of a doctors office in my life. I went in for a physical and the total length of the visit was about 8 mins. She went in there and started doing my exam right away. Not even a «Hi nice to meet you I’m Dr so and so how are you doing today?» No it was a wam bam thank you ma’am type of deal. I mean come on you’re not even gonna buy me dinner first at least?! Lol but seriously, I went in for my preventative visit (which you are allowed one per year under the affordable care act) and I was charged upfront a copay for this visit which I shouldn’t have been charged. Now I know what I’m talking about because I work in the health care industry and I have NEVER paid a copay for a physical. So I called my insurance to double check on this claim, turns out she was fraudulently billing me. Instead of billing me for a preventative visit she billed me as a consult with preventative diagnosis codes which is INCORRECT! Needless to say I am disputing this claim with my insurance company as fraudulent billing and I will never go back there again! Check your Claims with that office they fraudulently bill you to get more money out of you!

Dr. Chiu is the best!
Yes-​you have to wait awhile sometimes 30 – 45 mins but that’s cuz she also has to run over to ER to delivery babies and perform surgeries. Can you imagine if you went into labor and then your doctor wasn’t there because instead they were seeing a patient in their office and «took their time»? Don’t get me wrong, we all want quality care and it may feel like she «rushes» but we have more than enough information at our finger tips to help nowadays with our questions (in fact too much.)
This is what I LOVE about her and I’ve had 3 babies with her!
1. When I call the office to ask to leave a message for her to call me back, she will! I mean, my call could be such a tiny issue but she is there for me! Even at 7 pm she called me! (She didn’t have to but she did and I know she was off busy doing surgery for someone.)
2. In a stressful work situation, she gladly wrote me a doctor’s note for time off for any amount of time I wanted. It was such a relief because I knew she was on my side. Let’s face it, when you’re pregnant, you don’t need stress on you or the baby. She just made it so easy for me to talk to her and I felt like she was my mom and would do anything to help me.
3. When I have my babies, I delivered vaginally and she acted quickly on each one. For my first, I was obvious nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but my husband said she was quick in her decisions and he could tell she was super experienced. Just a snip and 3 pushes later, out he came. She was there for each delivery and everything was very very smooth.
4. Her office staff, they get their work done and when I ask for stuff it’s mailed to me quickly, faxed to me quickly, and they are efficient. They do their job and it’s great!
I know it looks like there are many more oby-​gyns to choose in the area but I love her!!!

Yes, it takes a little while to get an appointment. She’s a busy doctor (someone must like her and her staff). But then it takes a while to make an appointment with any popular doctor.
I’ve seen her once a year for the past six or seven years. I haven’t dealt with all the office staff, but the ones I have dealt with have never been anything but courteous and helpful. I’ve never waited in the waiting room longer than thirty minutes and most of the time it’s been fifteen minutes or less, which in this day and age is excellent.
And yes, the doctor works quickly but I have never felt rushed and she has always taken the time to fully answer my questions.
I’d recommend Dr. Chu to anyone requiring the services of a gyno.

Went to her a few years ago and was so insincere and fast and did not make me feel comfortable at all.

I am a long time patient of Dr. Chu and only kept going back because I figured it was the «norm» for OBGYN to be completely rude, condescending and in a constant rush (high demand, high stress, I get it). Then, by the pushing of my friends, decided to see a different OBGYN and it was a night and day difference. I would never recommend Dr. Chu and I am far from needy when it comes to ANY kind of business. I was scheduled to come in every three months or else they wouldn’t refill my birth control? Wth? The office staff treats you like you are a child.

Staffs are very unprofessional! We left because of dr chus staffs! Dr is always in a hurry! We do not recomend it!

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant, I love the Dr. however the staff needs a little help. Basically if you cant pay up front they will not see you. I tried to spread an $ 1850 payment over 2 months /​4 payments and I recieve voice mails stating if I can not pay the balance upfront not to come in. Which really confuses me since I have a verbal agreement with the staff that if I paid the $ 800.00 then I could break down the remainig $ 1050 over my next 2 appointments.
This is not something you want to hear in your 8^th month of pregnancy. It is highly stressfull situation to be in.
The staff could really use some more professional manirisms.

So disappointed to have to give such a bad review. Dr. Chu has been my Dr for over 13 years and she is wonderful. I have never been a no show to an appointment, I recently called to cancel an appointment left it on their service and the appointment was not canceled. I was charged a $ 30.00 no show fee. When I called the office to ask if there could be a mistake I was told absolutely not. Not only that but they will not give me another appointment until I pay the fee. Great customer service toward a long time customer.

I had been a patient of Dr. Chu for more than three years. On my last routine physical she failed to complete my physical and even rushed me through my visit. I left the office confused and upset. I gave her the benefit of the doubt assuming she was having a bad day. I called her staff and relayed my concerns regarding my physical not being completed and asked for a follow up appointment. I also asked if Dr. Chu could please call me.
About a week later I received my medical records in the mail and a letter stating that I should find another Doctor. I was shocked at Dr. Chu lack of professionalism and lack of concern for me as her patient.
If you are looking for a good doctor Dr. Chu is not the Doctor.
Shame on you Dr. Chu.

Dr. Chu has been my doctor for over 10 years. During that time she found a cyst. She immediately ordered an ultrasound and with the findings, directed me to a surgeon. She has been so thorough in my pap smears and takes all the tests to ensure my good health. Where some doctor try to appease the insurance provider, Dr. Chu does not cut corners in making sure her patient’s health has been thoroughly analyzed. We live in Rossmoor and she has single-​handedly delivered hundreds of babies in our community. She is the best!

Dr. Chu is amazing! I have been seeing her for years. Her staff is awesome as well.

I had a bad experience with Dr Chu and it was not just because I lost my pregnancy at 18 weeks.
The staff is cold. Dr Chu races in and races out to examine you. Have you ever felt really powerless after going to a doctor’s appointment because you feel like your doctor would not listen and address your concerns? That’s how I felt every time I went there. She mocked my questions, and dismissed my concerns.
When I went in for my 18 week check up she came in did my ultrasound and was speechless leaving me grasping for any idea of what was wrong. Finally she said, the heart has stopped beating.
That’s not her fault of course. However, I would have felt better about the overall experience if a. she had acknowledged my concerns earlier when I made them, b. did the testing for hormones I requested, c. did not have me walk out the back door so my crying would not upset the others or d. not admit me into a hospital. She simply referred me to planned parenthood for a d and e and that was that.
I don’t like the way she runs her practice. If you do choose to see her be sure to make the earliest available appt because she will schedule 10 patients in one time slot.

I’m very satisfied with the service received from Dr. Chu, her nurse, and the office staff. The nurse and staff are kind and professional. There was a girl a couple years ago who was rather unfriendly, but she has since been replaced and the current members are great.
Dr. Chu is no nonsense. She’s knowledgeable, funny, and straight-​forward. I appreciae that. She even kids with my husband, who’s nearly impossible to amuse. She obviously knows what she’s doing and takes her work seriously. She delivered my first baby and will be delivering my second. The previous reviews regarding wait time to see her are correct: the wait time is at least 30 – 40 minutes. Also true is that Dr. Chu isn’t a big talker. She’s in and out, but at every single appointment – she asks «any questions» and «any more questions.» I always get a chance to get my concerns addressed, but no we don’t become BFFs or reminisce about our younger days. That’s okay with me because I’m there to for a professional service, not a friendship. Besides, I wouldn’t want a phony, talkative person for a friend anyway.
Dr. Chu is great and I’m so glad she’s my OBGYN!

I explained my concerns and why I was there to see Dr. Chu. I don’t want to get into the specifics of the conversation because it’s personal, but the mental distress that Dr Chu caused me can not be explained.
I hope my story prevents some one else from being put through the distress I went through because of Dr Chu. She was rude, uncaring, insensitive and very unprofessional. She even left personal information on my answering machine without permission, which is against the law. AVOID.

DR CHU is a great OB GYN!
I have been with her for over a year now and she is truly a wonderful doctor.
Upon arriving you need to sign in and then the great front office staff ladies will get you set. I usually get an AM appointment and it’s an IN N OUT process, although some people may not like how quick Dr CHU is she truly is efficient and personable in her appointments.
If you feel nervous or have a awkward question she will put you at ease and answer your question with reassurance and make you feel comfortable to ask whatever you need answers to (she is a down to earth lady).
Great OB GYN doctor and person. :)
Tip: make sure you park in the appropriate part of the lot on the east side of Dr. Chu’s office (the BIGG PARKING LOT beside the hospital).

Took 2 months just to schedule an appointment with Dr. Chu.
One nurse on her staff is really nice, while the other nurses I could care less about.
She is soo fast! I don’t even get a chance to get a word in. And I don’t even get a chance to know my doctor. She flies from room to room. She did my surgery and I saw her before hand, and after, she did not even come to check on me.
In so many words, she kinda sucks. If you want a quick visit, bad bedside manner and an uncaring doctor, Dr. Chu is the one for you.

Dr. Chu is very friendly and easy to talk to. She actually delivered my second baby, cuz my usual OB (Dr. Gonzalez) was on vacation. I met Dr. Chu the day before I went into labor. Lucky for me, she was already at Los Alamitos Medical Center delivering a baby when I was admitted. Delivery went well, baby came out healthy.
I recently came back to see Dr. Chu, inquiring about Mirena. She was very helpful and gave me useful information. The only complaint I have is the wait. But then again, what’s a doctor’s visit without having to wait?
