Diet To Go

I have very high hopes for diet food but very low expectations. My experience so far with diet to go has been so great.
I worried about the delivery, as I left a note for the driver to leave the package, and it was tracked as delivered at 10am, but I wouldn’t be able to arrive home from work until around 6pm. The package was sealed tight in a styrofoam-​ish cooler and loaded with dry ice. Everything was still frozen even though the package had been in transit for about 2 days! Plus, I got to make kitchen fog with the dry ice in my sink!
So far, I have tried only 3 items– none of which sounded particularly appetizing. The chicken florentine burger and applesauce lunch was decent, super convenient, and so filling that I couldn’t even finish the burger. The peach pecan bar was satisfactory and the side of peaches were good. Mostly, I decided to break my Unilocal lurking to rave about the blackened turkey with carrot purée and asparagus risotto. OMFG, so delicious! The portion felt huge and it tasted so good.
So far, diet-​to-​go has been everything I wanted it to be — affordable, convenient, full of variety, and tasty!

I have used diet to go several times over the past couple of years and have had an overall positive experience. The first time I tried it I lost ~20lbs. The plan really works well if you stick with it! Of the other times I used it, I only saw results when I was not adding to the plan (I have a habit of eating multiple dinners, etc :/​). I do have to say, however, that even when I was adding, at least I wasn’t gaining additional weight and I was getting some good nutrition in me. Sadly, I have gained it all back because I can’t be trusted to feed myself properly without a plan like this.
Just a couple of comments:
— I have tried the traditional plan (what helped me lose the weight first, and without exercise) and am now on the low carb plan. Even though I just started the low carb plan, I already like the meals much better. I used to have to sub out meals I did not like (and that cost extra when I did) on the traditional plan and have yet to find one I don’t like on the low carb.
— I have also tried delivery vs. pick-​up and even though it can be a hassle to pick up the food twice a week, it was so much better to have it fresh. (The convenience wasn’t worth the sacrificed taste!)
— The plan really works well when you are dedicated. I cannot say this enough! When I stuck to it and didn’t cheat, I saw great results!!!
— I have also never had a problem with their service — even when there have been mistakes (missing a meal), they credit my account for the next week.

They are not flexible about pick up times and require pick up after 5pm which is high traffic time; it’s just not Convenient for me.

We could not possibly be more satisfied! Maybe things differ by locale, but my husband and I both have been eating DTG for the past six weeks, and we simply could not be happier! The menus are creative and varied. The portions are beyond filling — We are absolutely NOT hungry between meals. Food is spiced enticingly. And the veggies are fresh as heck! Like we have no idea HOW they do it, but I swear, they taste like they just got picked from the garden! GREAT STAFF! We have had a couple of glitches along the way, and have always been promptly and fairly compensated. I have lost 4 pounds in 6 weeks, my husband has lost 6 — And we eat whatever the heck we want on weekends, and still lose the weight! Try Diet To Go! Besides the unwanted weight, what else do you have to lose?

Terrible food, worse service. I don’t like how some companies are so very sweet to you when luring you into buying their product/​plan. Then, after you decide it is not for you they are downright rude when you try to cancel.
Diet To Go is such a company. My wife and I both agreed that the food is unfit for human consumption. I don’t know if it’s because we are Portland foody snobs or because our taste buds haven’t died off yet. We received our boxes and tried the breakfast and lunch. Yuck.
We called right away to cancel and were told we were too late.
What? We just got the food last night! The person on the line was very rude and insulting. Don’t they understand the internet? Bad reviews are business killers.
Correct Answer: Sorry you don’t like our product/​service. We will happily cancel your plan. Please tell us what you don’t like. We appreciate your input.
But, hey, maybe that’s just me.

Imagine the worst frozen vegetables you have ever had. These are even worse. The food comes thawed out. Some of the food is not even boxed or labels. There are no direction on reheating the frozen items.
They say that they have a satisfaction guarantee but don’t believe them. They make it impossible to get a refund.
They do not warn you before items are shipped or when the deadline is to modify your order. If your not ready for more of their horrible, the only notification you get is when the items ship.
You will lose weight because you won’t want to eat any of the mushy, horrible food.

Oh. My. God. I just found this apparently amazing resources this morning and RAN to get my wallet. I don’t care if the food tastes yummy or not, I just need help getting in 3 low fat 1200-​ish calories per day meals. So I paid for it and spent 45 minutes customizing 4 or 5 weeks of meals.
Now, I can’t eat: shellfish, aspartame or MSG. None is a life-​threatening allergy, but if I eat enough, it can make me sick for a few days and that’s something I do without.
Also, I have aversions to a few vegetables. No big deal, the plan allows plenty of substitutions. I hate mushrooms so I just don’t choose those meals. There are a surprising amount of meals without mushrooms, which I appreciated!
Well, initially, I had sent a chat request about substitutions where explained I really can’t have MSG or Asperatame, and then I listed the veggies I wanted to avoid. WHY. WHY DID I SEND THAT MESSAGE?!
Because their response, without even talking to me, was to cancel my account. They said they can’t handle all my dietary restrictions. Honestly, it felt like being discriminated against.
And that suddenly made me aware of the way people with life-​threatening allergies must be made to feel sometimes. The vibe was: you’re a liability to us. Your money isn’t welcome here.
And all that *time* I’d spent was wasted.
To be clear: I had spent 45 minutes making sure EVERY meal was ok going out a MONTH, this was after the other what, an hour? where I researched this, read Unilocal reviews, tried to figure out which plan I wanted, tried to make it possible to add a 2^nd person to my account (you can’t).
I am not asking for perfection. I did the work myself to rearrange the menu. I expect fake sweeteners in diet syrups, like in breakfasts involving pancakes. I WOULD JUST SKIP THE SAUCE, OBVI. If there was a problem with anything I didn’t love, I’d simply scrape it off. I eat organic at home and I was fine with just eating their not-​organic stuff and doing a detox tea every day. I WAS A WILLING CUSTOMER.
But the person I spoke to said, «There could be MSG in the food.»
I was like, «Ew, you guys put MSG in it?»
«Well, no, but we don’t know all the ingredients.»
OK GROSS.
Forget it.

I wish I could give them more stars. I am on the low-​carb plan, I like all of it except the breakfasts which are a bit to repetitive. The reason I am giving it only 3 stars is the excessive amount of cheese and or sauce on almost every dish. For a low carb plan they could cut out the cheese and reduce carbs further. I am sensitive to too much diary, and as much as I want to like there meals, I just can’t handle all the cheese any more. I’ve given it two weeks and this week will be my last. If you enjoy cheese and sauces give it a try, it might be a good fit.

My husband and I both work, and both need to lose weight, so I was looking for a way to lose weight without having to do a lot of planning and cooking. Fortunately, since we live in So California, the food is fresh. The way it works is that every Tuesday and Friday I pick up the food at a fitness center. It’s very easy and I don’t have to worry about my food sitting in a cooler.
We’re both doing the traditional plan (he has the 1600 plan, and I have the 1200 calorie plan). In two weeks, I’ve lost 3 pounds, and my husband has lost 9 lbs! The weird thing is that even though 1200 calories isn’t much, I find myself not being able to finish my meals, sometimes. They are really filling. And I really love that I don’t need to figure out the calories or some sort of point system. I just heat the meals and eat!
The food is really delicious, too. Some things are better than others, of course, but there hasn’t been anything so far that hasn’t been decent. Some of the items were so good I found myself scraping the bottom of my plate. :) I’m glad I went traditional and not low carb because their pastry chef is really good. The other thing I like about the food is the variety. The food changes every week, so it’s not like you’re eating the same thing over and over again.
What pushes it up to 5 stars for me is the app. There are certain things I don’t like, for instance tomatoes, and I love the fact that I can preview the next delivery and with one click find substitutes for whatever it is I don’t want. My husband is allergic to shellfish, so this is really important for him. I also like that I can skip meals with one click. Occasionally, I’ll eat out or there will be a social function so I’ll end up with an extra meal. I just put it in the freezer, and then skip a meal the next delivery. They prorate your bill. I just love how I don’t have to call anyone or even go onto my computer. I can make all the adjustments on my phone (which is with me pretty much 24 7). You can also record your weight, exercise, etc, but other than the weight, I don’t find the other stuff useful yet. But it’s still a great tool, and it doesn’t cost any extra. :)
I’m definitely glad that I started the program and highly recommend it to others!

I received my first and only box I will order. My food shipped on Monday and I received it late Thursday afternoon. It was sitting outside of my apartment in the 100 degree weather. The three ice packets in the box were completely melted and it wasn’t even cool.
The boxes with instructions and ingredients was wet and some had completely wiped all information off. So if you live close to the shipping it may be ok. But I will not be eating any of it fear of getting sick. $ 150.00 down the drain.

It was 2013 NYE, and we all know what it meant. Hello to annual new year’s resolution: To become a skinny bit$$ch. To lose about 30 Ibs by the end of spring, or at least lose enough weight that my tummy won’t jiggle when I brush my teeth.
I saw an Ad at my local GYM for Diet To Go, and I decided to give it a go.
I singed up online for the 5 days «Traditional Low Fat plan,» 1,200 Calories/​day. Registering and signing up for the plan was easy and my meal plan was just a click away!
— My meals were unexpectedly delicious. Seriously!
— I was able to stop/​hold the plan, at any time.
— Easy to substitute some of the meals for my personal taste.
— Good portions.
— Unless I update my preference, my order was a recurring one. I picked up my meals twice a week, after 5pm on Tuesdays & Fridays at my pick-​up location: 12^th Street Gym, Philadelphia.
— I appreciated the email reminders to pick up my meals.
I’m not sure why the scale kept hurting my feelings!!! All I lost was my motivation to lose weight, and my goal was absurdly unattainable.

Diet To Go knocks it out of the park!
Seriously, I have literally tried them all and hit the jackpot when I found this plan.
They could teach other similar plans how to do it.
First and foremost the food is simply delicious. I like to eat — preferably good food. Diet To Go figured out the secret — make good food. The chili is the best I’ve ever tasted and I could eat the turkey melts 7 days a week!
The portions are good and I’m not starved all day between meals.
Their website has excellent interactive functions that make it easy to track daily food intake, activities and weight loss. Also features a community of fellow dieters with useful tips and stories of their personal goals and weight loss challenges.
I have lost 2 pounds per week and am enjoying the food — what more could I ask for?!

I’m in my first week and needless to say I’m impressed. I wasn’t sure how good the food would be because the heat up instructions are for the microwave. I opted for the low carb option bc for my body type I don’t lose weight with too many carbs. Some how each meal I’ve had has come out of the microwave fresh as if I had just cooked it myself. I recently broke my foot so this has been a great convenience for me. I found grocery stores and cooking to be unmanageable and this has made life so much easier. I don’t have to think about it, it’s the right amount of food. Tastes great, easy to manage, and keeps my diet on track. I’m in my first week so no weight loss to report, might not be much because I’m not super mobile.

I’ve been using the vegetarian option with 2 meals 5 days a week. I’m into week 3. I chose veggie to make sure I get enough fiber in my diet & I’m actually thinking about being a vegetarian anyway. I’m sorry to read that Alan S had so many difficulties with the food & noted that it was «dangerous.» The pros are the food is actually better than I expected, pick up is 5 blocks from my house & making a substitution is super easy. At this point I don’t have any cons to report.

I love Diet to Go!
My stats: I am on the vegetarian plan and I get 3 meals a day 5 days a week. I like this schedule because the majority of my diet is ~1200 calories per day but then I still have a little room to choose my own meals each week. I have been on this program for 2 months and I have lost approximately 1 pound per week for a total of 9 lbs. I have reduced my body fat percentage by 3.5% and my BMI has decreased from 23 to 21.8.
Delivery: I live in Charleston, SC so my food is delivered to me each week from Lorton, VA. The food delivery is predictable– it is shipped on Monday and arrives to me on Wednesday evening. The food is always cold when it arrives and my order is always correct.
Food: Living in a city known for delicious food, I assumed that I wouldn’t be too impressed with the food I received from Diet to Go. I was delightfully wrong! The food is tasty, diverse (Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Asian, American), and creative. I also love that most meals come with vegetables. I truly enjoy eating my «diet» food! The only negative that I’ve noticed in regards to the food is that some dishes tend to be watery. It’s an easy fix though– I usually plate my food (trying to learn appropriate portions) using a fork so the water stays in the tray. If I am eating in a hurry or where a plate is not available then I just carefully pour the water out.
Substitutions: Substitutions are very easy. Just click on the meal you don’t want and then select the meal you do want from a list of about 10 items. A very nice feature is that they offer some seafood-​based substitution meals on the vegetarian meal plan (I eat a pescetarian diet). I cook the fish dishes in the oven (microwaved fish just sounds gross) and they come out flaky.
Customer service: I’ve contacted customer service by email and phone and I’ve been happy with my experience both times. They responded to my email the same day and I only had to wait for a minute before somebody picked up my call.

DANGEROUS. DO NOT USE.
While their food is tasty and I have no doubt can help you lose weight — it is not healthy and they don’t provide any warnings about it. Here’s what happened, my wife, who has IBS, tried it and ate about one meal a day for a week and stopped having bowel movements (she often has troubles, but this pushed her over the edge). Literally had to go to the hospital. Her worst impaction ever. I thought it was mostly the loss of fiber and thought the food was ok, just not for her. But then i started eating the meals so they wouldn’t go to waste. 2 days, 2 meals and I missed a bowel movement the next morning. I am the most regular person around. I decided I might still try a meal now and then but could feel the heaviness of the food. I think it’s the cheese they use — not sure. but if you have any problem with your digestive system, do not use these guys.

Diet-​to-​Go has really changed my life. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner! I started back at the end of July 2014 and to date have lost over 44 pounds! The food is really outstanding, with different meals throughout a five week cycle and new meals popping up all the time! I look forward twice a week to picking up my never frozen chef prepared meals at the River Place Market right out my front door. In three minutes, I’m sitting down to healthy food that tastes great. I look forward to losing the next 40 lbs on Diet-​to-​Go. It’s finally taken the mystery out of calorie counting and done it for me! Couldn’t recommend it higher. For someone that has tried it all over the years, I’m so happy to have found it! No shakes or mystery magic pills to pop. Just great food.

I’m on the low-​carb plan, and so far in about a week I’ve lost 4 pounds. I’m eating less, I’m not as hungry as I was, and the food is really good!
Let me explain about the food. This is not a five-​star French restaurant. But the food is fresh (I live in San Jose so it’s not frozen here — I can’t speak to their frozen food). And the food is usually pretty tasty. It’s a far cry from TV dinners… it’s much better!
AND I AM LOSING WEIGHT. I’m generally full, losing weight, and eating vegetables. I am sooo happy with this diet plan! They’re picking out my food, the portions, and even delivering it to a location close to my office. I couldn’t be happier with them!
I have had no delivery issues (you have to cancel a week in advance — I don’t know what the other Unilocalers were writing about), I don’t have any issues with their customer service, and I like the food. It’s kind of like, gourmet food, so you don’t want to eat just «regular» food after you eat their meals. I’m kind of snobby now!
I wholeheartedly think that this is an excellent way to lose weight. I don’t know if it works long term, but I’ve tried soo many diets, and I hope this one works! But so far, so good!
But don’t take my advice necessarily. Consult your doctor, yadda yadda yadda. I’m not a doctor, nutritionist, etc. This isn’t like a car repair shop I can just recommend… if it doesn’t work at the repair shop, oh well… it’s just a car. This is your body. So I can’t recommend that you do something or not to your body. However, IN MY EXPERIENCE with diettogo, they’re great!

I’ve tried Diet-​to-​Go on three occasions. Twice I went with the traditional menu and once with their low-​carb menu plan. While the traditional menu was my favorite, especially with its spicy Szechuan turkey burger and ham & turkey salad on a soft pretzel roll, the low-​carb one had a few dishes to love as well (pork chop breakfast, chicken Fontina).
Overall I found the food to be good, though more often than not the vegetable side dishes were soggy, and it didn’t seem to matter if I defrosted the meal before microwaving or not. And I will say the meals on the low-​carb plan tasted like they had more salt than their traditional counterparts.
I do love myDiettogo, which gives me the ability to customize and manage my meals, stop service, etc. For me this would mean substituting out any seafood (ick). And the convenience of Diet-​to-​Go fresh diet delivery can’t be beat. The meals arrive in a cooler and I haven’t yet had any arrive not completely chilled even when left on the front porch. There’s something to be said about not counting calories because they’re counted for you, and Diet-​to-​Go is about the only way I make sure I get veggies in my diet.
Though I don’t use Diet-​to-​Go year round, I love their meal plans for whenever I need to get back on the wagon (e.g., post holiday festivities). Diet-​to-​Go is definitely worth a try. (Just pat dry the veggies before eating…)

As someone who is perpetually on a diet (yes, I know, it sucks), I lucked upon Diet to Go through recommendation of a friend. She had done the plan a few years back and told me that while it was pricey, the food was awesome and the weight flew off. However, she was quick to point out that the food ended up costing just as much as groceries, so if you’re dieting, it’s really a win-​win.
I’ve tried two different meal plans: the low-​fat traditional, and the low-​carb. My favorite plan is the low-​fat traditional because Diet to Go really ROCKS it with the pastas and side items. With my first delivery I was really excited to see side choices like whole apples, oranges, little mini jars of jam, tiny juice boxes and actual cream cheese. Most diets mean you’re stuck eating lettuce and drinking water, but I felt I had a good amount of freedom to enjoy little splurges that make a difference. (Believe me — a schmear of cream cheese goes a long way when you’re living in 1,000 calorie land). I liked that even with a shrimp allergy, I had tons to choose from. One of my favorite meals is the black bean soup with the soft pretzel on the side. I had dreams about those pretzels…
One of the only slight drawbacks to this program is you need to be conscious of how you cook the food. I prefer taking my meals to the fridge the night before (out of the freezer) and then microwaving for less time. Sometimes some of the veggies will get slightly soggy if you don’t do that.
Long story short, this stuff is good, and it works. I was able to lose 9 pounds in my first month. The low-​carb plan is not as exciting as the low fat, but what do you expect when you can pretty much only eat meat and veggies?
