After reading in guidebooks how this place was like an old-timey soda fountain, I was dismayed the moment I set foot inside this place – the reviews had set me up to expect an old-fashioned northeastern/southeastern/midwestern charming spot out of the past. Instead, it was generic, with the only décor being uninteresting and not even old Coca-Cola advertising material. The milkshake was thick and rich, but my grilled cheese was a pallid, limp thing made of Wonder bread barely toasted with bland, melted cheese inside it, as if it were made in a toaster oven and not on the grill. The salad was a careless handful of iceberg lettuce and a sad few slices of tomato. All of this was accompanied by a side of the owner? cook? defiantly bragging that she didn’t recycle ANYthing because San Juan county charges a fee for this service. Very disappointed.
