History

Established in 1982.

Gateway Montessori School is a not-​for-​profit, tax-​exempt corporation founded by Karen Grant and Dr. Michael C. Grant. Gateway Montessori School is dedicated to providing a high quality Montessori program to children three through six years of age. Each child is respected as an individual and is encouraged to develop at his/​her own pace. We believe that each child is unique and special in his/​her own personality and individual growth style. Our aim is to lay the foundations for a lifetime of creative learning. In short, we here at Gateway, Nurture the Love of Learning.

The learning in the classroom just happens as you help the child develop their sense of self, their independence, their sense and control of their body as well as their friendships. Dr. Montessori designed educational materials that draw the child’s interest and lead the child to discover a principal. The materials are self correcting so that it is not up to the teacher to declare right or wrong, the child will make the discovery. The material, along with a very well thought out, prepared environment enable us to allow absolute freedom for the child within very clear limits, it is a balance of freedom and responsibility. I just love to see the children’s confidence and independence grow day by day.
