Q4 Hotel

TL;DR Version: An affordable, comfortable option. Good location near subway, immediate streets nearby seem dead at night; quaint morning wakeup; clean facilities, towel/​wifi/​locker (without lock)/outlet provided. The best part is the staff is relaxed and extremely friendly. Beds are okay– not too creaky, decently soft… the pillows however are miserably flat and squeak because they are protected in plastic. International and friendly vibe.

Bottom line: I would stay here again, though it wasn’t the best sleep of my life (but you should expect thst with a hostel). Paid $ 40 with taxes for one night in a 6 — female hostel room.

Good location for a hostel out of the main city. 2 minute walk to the subway and reasonably close to a supermarket. Only downfall is the constant flow of traffic and the noisy trains going past all night. Clean kitchen and rec room. Rooms are reasonable, typical dorm rooms, bunk beds and lockers. Staff could be a little friendlier but an overall good place to stay for the price and location.

Great place to stay. Stayed here last December and I made some amazing new friends for life. No con’s at all. The staff were amazing and location is perfect. Subways are all within 5 min walking. Food! Go to the bodega or download the app and they will bring it to you. There is a laundromat around the corner and for 10 $ they will wash dry and fold and have ready the same day. If you want to stay someplace safe this is the spot.

PRO:
— Great location for a hostel. It’s a 3 min walk from the train station on either side and a few stops away from Manhattan.
— The hostel was clean and the housekeeper comes in every day to clean.
— There’s a kitchen downstairs along with a lounge area. The hostel used to be a bank, so even the secure bank vault got turned into a lounge area, so that’s a pretty neat space. Also has a guitar for those who are musically inclined.
— Organized day trips/​night outings.
— Reasonable price for NYC at $ 30−35/night
CON:
— The bathroom for the 6-​person room was TINY. It was practically a closet and just barely enough room to turn around or change. There weren’t any spaces to hang up my towel or clothes if I wanted to shower.
— Somewhat noisy from the proximity to the train, but that’s a given for the city.
— Not too many food options super close by.
— Despite the organized social events, there weren’t really that many people talking to each other.

My first time in a hostel, and definitely the one I’ll be staying in when I visit NY again in 2 months. Staff was kind and laid back. Only a few stops from the heart of Manhattan, with the train just 2 blocks from the front door! I see other reviews made comments about the subway noise… But honestly, I really didn’t hear it too much.
The kitchen downstairs is great, plus the actual eating and lounge area are very spacious! Computer and printer next to the lobby are very helpful.
I stayed in a 6 person mixed bunk for 2 nights, and I had a marvelous time with my roommates :) We still keep in touch on Facebook.
Housekeeping came in at the same time every day. They clean the bathrooms and mop the floors, take out the trash, but they only change the linens on the bed if you’ve checked out. You can definitely ask them to change yours, just tell the front desk that you’d like fresh sheets, and they’ll let housekeeping know. They provide you with one towel upon check in, but you can ask for more.
All in all, a great deal for a great place. Highly recommend!!!

Not too bad for a hostel. Clean for sure. But, the staff is less than kind and the noise from the train is pretty bad.

This was my first experience staying in a hostel and I thought it was fantastic. My room was very clean and there was a bed which was really all I was looking for.
The staff was nice and helpful. I thought the area was safe. I was coming and going at 3am and felt fine. Very close to the subway station, not even a minute walk away.
This would probably be a perfect place for first time visitors to New York since you’re only a 10 minute train ride to midtown and therefore, most major NYC attractions.

Location is great because it’s very close to the subway and we all know that’s all that matters in nyc. My room was always very clean, I always saw the housekeeper come in and actually clean everything. You can always request new sheets or also borrow a blow dryer at the front desk. I was confused about the heater at first, you also have to ask about it at the front desk.
The only bad thing I have to say is that the social scene wasn’t that great. Maybe it’s because the lounge is at the basement or maybe because not many people decide to stay in queens, idk. Also they don’t have an age limit. They don’t really have group activities. So if you are going to be spending weekdays here and want a social vibe… This might not be the place for you.
On the downside, «the local» hostel nearby has plenty of activities but it’s further away from the subway station and less cleaner but of course more packed. For my purposes of my trip I definitely preferred the clean but more hotel-​like q4. The receptionists were friendly for the most part. Felt very comfortable at this hostel — would recommend.

Best hostel in NY, great location only a few blocks from subway. Very affordable for traveling on a budget. Clean area, awesome staff, had a good experience staying here a couple of days on recent trip and will definitely stay here again on future trips. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Probably the worst hostel of all I’ve stayed in (about 10 over the years). As soon as I arrived in Queensboro Plaza, a desolate area in which the most notable landmark seems to be the Scandals strip club down the road, I knew I had made a mistake, but when I arrived, they refused to book me in for less than the full duration I had signed up for, so it does seem that they’re desperate to hold on to bookings. Perhaps they get a lot of people wanting to leave after they see how dead the whole place is.
They do seem to have fixed the WiFi problems and the place is reasonably clean. The location is convenient to the train, but then, aren’t most places in NYC?
There were some kinda sleazy-​looking nightclub tours advertised in the common area downstairs but maybe because the common area is in the basement, it seemed absolutely dead. I think most people going to a youth hostel are looking for at least a somewhat lively environment, but it was dead, dead, dead — because of the way it’s set up, it’s very difficult to meet any of the other guests as the common areas are really out of the way. The contrast was stark compared to the last place I stayed at which had a free breakfast, a hotel bar and in a lively area of the city.
(Of course, if you’re just looking for a quiet place to stay, you won’t get that either as the noise from the trains outside means you get ²⁴⁄₇ rumbling and clanging)
To top up the bad customer service, they charged $ 5 to keep my bags a couple of hours after check-​in. I’ve never seen that before — surely that should be part of basic guest services?
Pay a couple more dollars and go stay on the Upper West Side, Williamsburg; anywhere really.

This place is likely the best hostel you’ll find in NYC.
What’s good:
The location is SO convenient if you’re flying through LaGuardia and if you want to get literally anywhere else, since it’s about 100 yards from two different subway stations (6 different lines).
They gave me a free towel. FREE!
The bathrooms are inside the rooms — the shower was pretty awesome and clean. They have a rainfall like shower head, it’s great.
The cheapest. Think I paid like $ 35 for the night.
What’s a little weird:
The size of the sink was so small that it was almost unusable. The bathroom is about the size of a closet (still nice), but I spilled water everywhere whenever I used it. If you can’t fit a normal size sink in the bathroom, just put it somewhere else!
Since it’s so close to the subway it can be loud, but you’re in New York! You’ll probably have a long, fun-​filled day and will be too tired to even notice when your head hits the pillow.
They made me put my personal blanket in a trash bag and leave it at reception for the duration of my stay. But hey, whatever helps them keep bed bugs out of that place I’m cool with.

Q4 is just great. It’s clean, hip, safe, affordable, and conveniently located by Queensboro Plaza. My friends and I stayed here for a week and overall, our first time staying in a hostel was pleasantly surprising. The staff was extremely helpful, our room was cozy, and the common area and kitchen were spacious. There are plenty of local cafes and great take-​out places nearby.
What I loved most was probably how easy it was to travel (the station was literally a two minute walk, and commuting to the city was ~20 min). Meeting a bunch of cool people in the common area was pretty sweet, too.
The only cons about Q4 were the laggy wifi and dusty floors. Oh, and if your room is located towards the front of the building and you’re a light sleeper, the trains running throughout the night may be a bit bothersome. However, there’s a nifty bowl full of earplugs in the lobby to help you sleep more comfortably if needed.
Q4 is such a gem, and I’ll definitely be coming back.

Pros:
The Location. Queensboro Plaza (N, Q,7) and Queens Plaza (E, M, R) are about a 2 minute walk door to door, honestly. Very safe. Well lit, and plenty of traffic at all hours. felt completely safe walking back at 3am.
The price. For 40/​night for this location, you can’t beat it. Even if you are sharing rooms. Remember this is NYC. Manhattan is one stop away and you can get to Times Square in about 15 minutes. Yeah you are in Queens, but it is honestly easier to get to many places in Manhattan than even living in certain parts of Manhattan.
The staff. Crystal was awesome.
The AC is very quiet and effective. Very nice during naps.
Cons:
The Wifi was very slow. Very disappointed.
The bathrooms lack ventilation. Also, I personally wasn’t a fan of the tiles in the showers. And the doors need better locks. The sinks also need more counter space. That single narrow shelf doesn’t do justice.
The subway noise. The N, Q loop around the hotel and it takes getting used to.
If you taller than 5“9, you won’t be a fan of the bottom bunk. You can’t sit up without hunching over to not bump your head.
I would come back here again. It is a steal for the price and location.

I’ve stayed in 4 different hostels in NYC and I would come back here again.
Pros:
–The price is reasonable
— The location is fantastic. LIC isn’t that far off from NYC and it is really just perfect.
— The staff was nice and helpful.
— The kitchen is HUGE!
— Wifi works well.
Cons:
–The floors hadn’t been cleaned in forever. I sat down on the floor to pack my suitcase and my black pants were COVERED in dust and dirt.
— The bathroom doesn’t really have a vent and this can be kind of stinky.
— There is nothing really around this area for food/​snacks/​etc. If you do stay here go to Cranberry. It has everything you need and more.

Stayed here a few times before when I came to New york city, I truly enjoyed my stay here and I like how convenient it is to take the subway to Manhattan. I love how there was a couple subway lines and buses to get to where I needed to go. I enjoyed how clean, artistic, and nice the hostel look like. I enjoyed the 6-​dorm room and meet pretty cool people to talk to as well. Plus it was very affordable and it was worth my money as well. Along with that, Queens has cool neighborhoods to check out for food such as Astoria, Flushing, Jackson Heights, and Long Island city.
However I didn’t like that there was not enought grocery stores, places to eat and there was not many nearby bars to go to. Plus I will like if they do some activities at the hostel to come together to just hang out. It doesn’t really have a social atmosphere and the staff are helpful however I will have like if they will be more outgoing and easy to talk to as well. I felt sometimes that I was staying at a hotel instead of a hostel but overall I will not mind staying here again.

Alright, speaking as a ‘regular’ to this *hostel, I know it well. I’ve stayed in plenty of other hostels around New York while searching for an apt, and this is the best one. By far.
It’s located directly in the middle of 2 main line subway stations which is so convenient. It’s modern and clean and comfortable. I recommend shelling out the few extra bucks for a 4-​person room though. The 6 and 8 beds are too stuffy.
If you’re lucky you’ll meet other cool travelers. I met the coolest, sexiest Australian lad there and I never wanted to stop talking to him. Durm. He was fine.
The front desk staff is cool. I’ve heard some funny things about mgmt though. Watch for mistakes.
All in all, it’s nice, cheap, and a good atmosphere. It’s not in the center of ny but it’s a 5 minute train ride. Hostels in the city are more expensive and sooo shitty. For real.

Great location and very clean. Only complaint is the intense noise from the Queensboro Plaza trains, but what do you expect. Staff are great and helpful, the place is kept really clean considering the number of people going through there. It is by far a great place to refer friends when I cant put them up in my place. The prices are reasonable and totally better than Manhattan options.

Shout out to Peter, Krystal and all other Q4 Hotel crew! You guys are as cool as the other side of the pillow.
Q4 is located in LIC in Queens, which is just a brief 8 minute (or less) Q, N or 7 train ride into Manhattan. I was told that this building was formerly a bank, which explains why there is a vault in the basement lounge area — which now functions as a Middle Eastern-​esque style seating area equipped with cushions and pillows. Minus the hookah and house tea.
The lounge /​entertainment area in the basement is the fuckin’ moves:
–Huge seating area. You can easily fit 8 to 10 people comfortably.
–Pool table. Not the best pool sticks but sufficient to look studly.
–Ping pong table for my Asian geek squad (Kidding. I can say that b/​c I’m one of you).
–Large kitchen area with island.
–2 large refrigerators.
–Projector screen for movies /​laptop connection.
–Laundry room. Clean your draws people. Nasty ass.
Regardless of where in the hostel you are booked, be sure to bring earplugs because the train literally wraps around the entire building and run all night.
I had a blast while I was there and I’ll be sure to be back.

This was my first experience staying in a hostel and I was shocked at how nice it was. I had only heard negative things about hostels but this place was great. I arrived with my cousin thinking it was going to be crowded, a little dirty and that there was a possibilty that my stuff would get stolen, but it was the opposite! It was clean, bright and organized with a very pleasant staff. We shared a coed room with 4 other people, so it was 6 people total. The bed linens were crisp and clean and so was the bathroom. The hostel even provided towels. Our roomates were in NY visiting from the University of Washington and were very nice. I felt safe and surprisingly very comfortable here, considering I was sleeping in a room with strangers.
There was a huge rec room/​lounge with tvs, a kitchen and other little places that people could relax and study in downstairs. The hostel was located right across the street from a subway station, so it is very convenient if you need to get somewhere fast. The hostel was $ 40 a night which which left us with more money to spend on activities in the city. Perfect for students or other on the go travelers who want to save money!

This place has recently opened so everything is new, furniture, towels. it’s pretty clean too. The staff was friendly, the amenities were also great, the kitchen is beautiful with lots of space… and steps away from the subway, wich is excellent!
