I tried the chicken empanada and the spinach and cheese empanada at the wine riot of the weekend. While the chicken was really dry and bland the spinach and cheese was pretty tasty. My boyfriend also had the spinach/​cheese, but tried the beef. He didn’t like the beef and said it was flavorless. So basically, I would say to stick to the spinach/​cheese.
They were also selling mac and cheese empanadas, which seemed to be a popular option but I didn’t try it.
The cost was $ 7 for two or $ 4 for one at the wine riot, and although pricey for what you get (overpriced in fact), I chose these because the sign said the empanadas were baked instead of fried and everything else at the event we went to was way worse. Indeed, they weren’t oily, but I would say to stick to one or two if watching your calories because of the pastry.
Update: I was curious about calories and inquired with the establishment who told me there are about 175 — 225 calories for the large empanadas and 75 calories for the smaller, hors d’ oeuvre sized ones. Not bad at all if accurate!

Great empanadas. Most of the time I find empanadas too deep fried and chewy. But these are crispy, yet soft and breaks apart with the insides are cooked just right. My favorite of the bunch was the buffalo chicken. They had just sold out of the mac and cheese emapandas, a popular favorite.

I got a beef empanada here when I went to the LIC flea and it was absolutely scrumptious! Though I do have a feeling my hunger at the time contributed a bit to my rave impressions so I’m not going to jump the gun and give this place 4 stars. Still, it was a darn good empanada and I was tempted to get more before we left. Too bad the prices were so hiked up ($ 4 for a smaller-​than-​your-​palm-​sized empanada; $ 7 for two), like all the hipster food stalls at the market. That’s what you expect from a Smörgåsbord-​like flea market though. The service was good too. The woman who works the stall (Jessy? :P) was very friendly.
Food: 3.5÷5 — delicious! Though frankly, not good enough or decently priced enough for me to go out of my way to get some. If I’m in the area again and craving empanadas, I’ll probably grab one.
