Fairfield Inn New York Long Island City/Manhattan View

Oh sweet Marriott! I know that wherever I travel, you will take care of me. I planned a trip to NY for a few days in December and was stunned by some of the insane hotel prices that were listed. Can we say travel rape!!! I jumped on the Marriott site and added my Triple A discount to my search for somewhere comfortable, reasonable, and with free breakfast to lay my head. I ended up picking this location due to it not being too far from me touring the city and being pretty reasonable.
The front desk workers (Ann and a front desk manager; Hispanic guy. Can’t remember his name) were very helpful and sweet. Since I’m a Marriott rewards member and it was Xmas, they upgraded me to a suite with a city view for free. Jacuzzi babay!!! I liked it so much, I booked it at regular price for the next night.
The area isn’t the best but it’s super close to the airport, über is always around, zip cars about about 7 blocks away, and there is a free shuttle that will take you to and pick you up from train stops and and runs from like 630 – 10.
The property is clean and up to date! The breakfast was perfect to get the job done and ranged from fruit to eggs (the nasty ones though) and a waffle maker. The king suite was very spacious! When I switched to the regular king room after the first two nights, it was smaller, but still very comfortable and nice. They have a few restaurants that will deliver almost anytime of night and are pretty good. Great, clean safe place on a budget.

Clean rooms. Decent internet. $ 20 daily deposit. The hotel itself is just fine. The area, however, has little to offer. The breakfast is pretty damn good and plentiful. Starbucks coffee free all day.

Ok hotel. Typical small nyc rooms. Staff friendly but under paid and overworked. Shuttle service is unreliable to nonexistent. Expect to pay for cab ride. No restaurants close and limited food onsite. I would stay here again but would never expect anything past a bed and shower.

Not good when the amenity is a box of earplugs! Don’t stay here if you have any intention of sleeping!!! This place is the noisiest hotel! Expect to hear trucks loading and unloading all night long until 10am! It was horrible!!! Two stars because the rooms are cleanish.

Overall an OK hotel. It was clean and beds were comfortable. Parking is a problem unless you want to pay $ 25.00 a night. I got lucky and found a space nearby. Staff was pleasant but the lady working the breakfast room was a delight! Very helpful and friendly. Free breakfast was good. I was going to a venue about a mile away and asked for the hotel to call us a taxi. One arrived quickly, it did not have a Taxi logo on it… should have been my first clue… Got in and he drove us to our destination. That will be $ 25.00 please… What??? One mile $ 25.00??? Lesson learned on the way back to hotel, the real taxi driver told us never to ask the hotel for a cab in New York, just go outside and flag one down. Trip to hotel from venue… $ 9.50 Thinking maybe the hotel and driver have a pretty good set up there… Oh one more thing, they borrow $ 20.00 from your charge card for incidentals… but you get it back after 3 business days. I wonder if they would have loaned me $ 25.00 for that «taxi»???

Rooms are ok for this time of age should be updated. Receptionist here are rude as hell no hello’s no nothing its like they dont want u to exist in their eyes. The reason for three stars breakfast here is fantastic price was ok most the most part. Also they give good cable channels, all in all customer service should be more respectful and courteous to customers.

The staff is incredibly rude. It seems that they want nothing to do with humans, which makes me wonder why they chose this job. Don’t expect anyone here to help or smile or give any inclination that they care for the well-​being of others. If you enjoy being treated like a jerk, stay here.

OK, pluses to the Fairfield Inn NY: Fairly inexpensive for the New York area. Clean rooms. Free breakfast.
OK, negatives: Um, 12 parking spaces for 100+ rooms just doesn’t work. Literally having to circle the block – or what passes for a block – 27 times just doesn’t work. Having a busy through-​street outside your room, which is across the street from a movie studio and trucks dropping shit that sounds like bombs – just doesn’t work. Having to pay $ 7.50 for tolls on and off the mid-​town tunnel just doesn’t work. Didn’t dare try the shuttle to the subway into the city; heard it was shady city, but can’t speak from personal experience.
Having absolutely zero in the neighborhood as a distraction just doesn’t work.
Back to pluses: The staff try to be pretty helpful about the parking situation, but there’s really nothing they can do. They are also helpful in directing you to what little there is to do in the immediate neighborhood – which aside from a decent Irish pub with cold drafts and great buffalo wings.
Also, the shuttle does take you to a number of local restaurants that might be in walking distance but you don’t dare give up your space once you have one.
A solid C, C+ taking the whole experience into consideration.

I spent my anniversary here with my boyfriend in a king size bed and Jacuzzi suite. The bed and pillows were amazing, I felt like I sunk into it. The Jacuzzi tub was perfect for two and opened up to the rest of the room so we were able to watch tv while relaxing in the tub. I recommend this hotel to anyone, it was super cute.

Accidentally came in here when the GPS directed us to the wrong Fairfield (human error). Asked for a courtesy shuttle to the other Fairfield. She lied and said the shuttle was not running. I said I just saw it leave with passengers and she changed her story to «we can’t give you a ride to the other property», which was a mere ten minutes away. Had to take a cab because we had been walking all day and were spent. Nice cooperation guys.

I chose this hotel because in the photos they had it seemed to be next to be next to my friends apartment. Literally, it looked like a window shot and the view was my friends apartment. I thought I could stop by to see her from that hotel during my visit but it turns out, it was a bit of a 5 minute drive. Not too far, but not that exact next door neighbor walk I was expecting. False advertisement on the view on what they show you on any of the sites, the area it’s in is kind of in an industrial part. I think it’s by a college, there was a lot of youth just walking around.
Cheap hotel, free parking, not much to complain about. But the parking spot is really tiny. I’m assuming this hotel is about 12 or 11 stories tall. It’s insane how they think that little parking spot will suffice if they had the whole hotel booked… But they were reasonable, they let us park on the sidewalk as long as it wasn’t near a fire hydrant we were okay. They even helped us park.
The staff was informational and really great to us. The bed was presented really neatly, coffee maker, ironer, iron board, hangers, nice closet, offered a lot of towels, a safe, etc. My favorite part was probably all the extra pillows and the blankets were thin, but enough to keep you warm. Sadly, there was no fridge! A fridge would have been really nice, hopefully they add onto it soon. I placed my drinks near the window just to keep it cold haha. Mainly because I stayed there for three days. Nothing looked too damaged. I was on the fourth floor, it was clean, average.
It’s a quiet hotel. You see a lot of families and tourists just roaming around, polite people, calm environment. My favorite part of my stay there was the complimentary breakfast. You can make your own waffles, it was so delicious. And their scrambled eggs, ughh. Maybe because I just love breakfast food, but honestly it was really good. Their orange juice tasted watered down but whatever.

This is the type of review where I really wish I could give 3.5 stars. The service is commensurate with a 4 star review, and there is nothing inherently wrong with the hotel; it’s just kind of old and shows its age. The rooms are clean, but old, and could use some updating. It’s not very close to the subway, but the shuttle service runs regularly, and is a very nice amenity to have.
The immediate area is in a part of Queens that is undergoing much revitalization at the moment, and it’s not really close to anything. The part of Long Island City that is already built up is a good mile or so away, but the shuttle will take you to a number of bars and restaurants and will pick you up if you call them.
You really stay at this place for two reasons: it’s cheap, and it’s close to Manhattan. For the price, you really do get a lot of value, and the service is a lot better than what you will find at the same price, or even higher. I have definitely paid more to stay in worse places.
Just don’t go in here expecting it to be a Ritz Carlton, and you’ll be OK.

People stay here because it is cheap, not because you can expect Marriott level service. I believe his hotel was another type of franchise in the past and it shows. The hotel itself behaves more like a lower quality hotel similar to a Choice property then a Marriott property.
In dealing with Marriott properties, when you have an issue, they are quick to handle and apologize. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with an inept young lady who was not listening after the hotel charged my card twice for one stay. It is issues like this (which come from lax service) that are not even worth the low price. I hope Marriott takes a long look at some of their properties and gets them in line.

I would suggest staying here if you are on a budget. The room rate was very reasonable but the location is not ideal. However, they do offer a complimentary shuttle service to the subway station where you can catch the train going straight into Manhattan.
We requested a high floor with Manhattan view… I suggest no lower than the 11^th floor. The room was quiet and clean. The hotel met the usual standard of Fairfield inn. The bed linens are all white lending the impression of cleanliness. The pillows aren’t great but the mattress was decent.
The room was a bit small but not as tiny as some in the city. I would only stay here again for business but prefer something closer or easier to get to Manhattan.

Decent hotel for a decent price. Main downside is location– in an industrial part of town that can get a little dicey at night, definitely not within walking distance to anything. The hotel does provide a complimentary shuttle to the subway and restaurants, although the claim that it runs every half hour is off. The breakfast provided is about what you’d expect for a holiday inn or a best western. Room was clean with free wifi, but don’t expect a manhattan view, & taxis either won’t come out that far or will charge you a $ 40 flat rate to get in or out of the city.

It is a decent price hotel in Sunnyside. The location is not great because it is by factories, but there is parking. Barely any space to squeeze in, but I really cannot complain about free parking.
Our room was on the second floor, but I wish we were on the top floor. The scenery would have been better. We had television, clean towels, and nicely made bed. We had to get extra shampoos and conditioners because one bottle of each is not enough for the two of us. There was a safe, an iron, and a iron bed in the closet. There was also AC and a bucket of ice to keep our drinks cold. The rug was a little smelly, but it was not too bad.
I love that this hotel had continental breakfast. There was a variety of cereals, muffins, croissants, bagels, and bread. They also had a selection of drinks in the fridge including soy milk, which is a plus since I am lactose intolerant. I like to have hot food in the morning, so I opted for the waffle maker. The waffle maker was fun to use, and the waffles were huge! I was done after one waffle. I tried their scrambled eggs, but that was soggy and gross. I had to throw it out. They had coffee, but I could not have caffeine, so instead, we put orange juice in the Starbucks coffee cups.
In addition to the nice rooms and warm breakfast, there was a small gym with free headphones. I didn’t use the gym, but my boyfriend did. After breakfast, I went back to bed. The bed was so comfy that I didn’t want to get up. Check out was not until 12, so we stayed till we were ready to leave. The bill was around $ 150, which is definitely better than other hotels who charge over $ 200 without free breakfast.

Nice hotel but the location is pretty crappy. It’s a nice and clean building with a friendly staff that tends to go the extra mile to make sure you’re happy and comfortable. The only problem is that it’s about 1.5 miles away from the closest subway. They have a shuttle that runs every half hour, which is definitely helpful.
My biggest gripe about the hotel is the wifi! There currently is only wifi in the hotel lobby and not on each floor. Although, there are lan cables that you can plug into your laptop.

Do go to this hotel if you are a seasoned urban traveler, if you are looking for a place to hang your hat and park your car very inexpensively while you venture into the city by train. You must be comfortable in a somewhat sketchy, derelict, industrial setting of produce warehouses, limo garages and other businesses of questionable origin; (this seems like a good neighborhood for Pauly Walnuts to get busy with a chainsaw.) In the summer there will be a major funk of rotting produce and fish emanating from the warehouse across the street, but it doesn’t waft into the hotel itself. Just into your car if you’re parked on the curb. Take comfort from the fact that the venerated Silver Cup Studios is the main cornerstone of this neighborhood where production work for Sex and the City, 30 Rock, QVC and not surprisingly, The Sopranos has taken place. (For the record, we did not feel in real danger at any time).
Stay here if you’re on a tight budget and are a capable traveler. You will save a bundle on garage fees and hotel costs. There is also a free breakfast included. Your fellow guests, in the summertime anyway, will be German tourists, American families, business travelers and passels of college students enjoying the city on the cheap. The staff are very hospitable and, overall, the facilities are fine. There were no bedbugs in our room. I checked. The Wifi in our room did not work, however.
Don’t stay here if you’d really, really rather be in the city. You’re not in the city and no amount of self-​denial will convince you of that. You’re in Queens here, baby. You really notice the inconvenience when you’re in the middle of dinner down in the West Village at 8:30 at night and you realize you’d better chew fast if you want to catch the trains back to Grand Central to catch the #7 and make the last shuttle. But, again, if you’re on a budget, or you’d rather spend your dough on shopping, dining and theater tickets, then it’s worth it.
I stayed at this hotel with my two teenage daughters for two nights. During our stay we traveled to the city using the hotel shuttle service and the #7 train, and ranged all over the city by tain, which was really pretty easy. The #7 takes you into Grand Central station in about 10 minutes or Penn Station in about 15 and from either of those stops you can get anywhere you want to go. If you need guidance, the people at the front desk are great about printing out directions for you, or you can get an app for your smart phone called HopStop, which worked really well for us.
The down side is that the last hotel shuttle leaves from the train stop at around 10:30P, so if you’re trying to catch a show or go clubbing, you will have to take a cab back from Manhattan or grab a cab from the 33 St and Rawson stop back to the hotel. There were cabs passing by that stop consistently except for Sunday night when the area was deserted and kind of scary. We also had to wait for quite a while to get the shuttle on Monday night. Then when it did come a large party of tourists cut the line, filled up the bus and we had to wait even longer while the driver ran them back to the hotel. Not fun late at night in the rain. I’m sure it would be exponentially more unpleasant in the winter.
Finally, Manhattan view? Uh, yeah, it’s there. Past the three miles of decrepit industrial sprawl that lies between you and the East River. But it’s there. So, the hotel itself is a decent bargain if you’re on a budget, but lower your expectations about that «Manhattan View» and you’ll be fine.

Very impress, Fairfield is usually not like this one in other parts of the country. Small, but what isn’t in New York. However, it was very comfortable and had a great view of the city that was so worth it. Close to the subway, the shuttle will drop you off right by it. Everyone that I encountered in the staff were very friendly. If I ever go back to city, this will be a choice. Price was pretty good for the city as well.
This would be four starts, but the parking sucks! Very tiny, there are not many spots, so at time you have to look on the street and good luck with that too.

Front desk was really polite and helpful. Room was clean. There isn’t much around the hotel, but it is just right outside the city. They have an underground garage for parking but the front desk has to call someone to open it. Plenty of street parking around the hotel. They also have a shuttle available.
