Terrible! For the third time I went to Emily’s for a haircut. The third time the same problem: hair cut professionals DON’T speak English and simply DON’T do what you ask. After doing the opposite, they laugh embarrassingly and apologize blaming the language barrier. But the mistake had been done and there is nothing to do now!
The first two times I decided to ignore and give them another chance, however last Saturday was the limit of lack of professionalism and lack of being able to communicate.
I come from another country and the only reason why I’m in the US is because I learned the English language. I believe that if you are dealing with the public, you MUST know how to speak English too.
Poor service. Not returning. DON’T recommend!
(Not to mention the lady coming to checkout and ask for undeserved tip)

I go here because it’s about fifty feet from my apartment, and every time I do, I regret it. Bitchy, rude service, subpar manis/​pedis, they inevitably try to upsell you, and an utterly basic clientele. The Emily location down the street is a million times better; walk the extra few hundred feet and go there instead for better service all around!

I wanted this place to work for me since it’s so convenient, but I keep getting bad haircuts. I think proficiency in English is probably required to understand how people would like their hair cut.

First let me start of by saying I did not read the reviews for this place prior to trying it. This «spa» is conveniently located across the street from my place and so I thought despite the ridiculous pricing it was ok to at least try them out. I came here a couple of times. First time my husband and I went together with our very well behaved one year old. I could tell they weren’t kid friendly by the nasty looks my son was getting. Nonetheless I came back 3 more times. It was on the 3^rd visit where Candy did my nails. Despite her snobby attitude I thought I’d give her a chance. She did an ok job on my pedicure all whilst laughing and giggling with nearby coworkers about something most definitely pertaining to me. While I don’t speak Korean I know how to read gestures and her pointing sealed the deal. Now you can understand how uncomfortable that can be. Simply put, I couldn’t care less about this and so still decided to proceed with my gel manicure by Candy. Who as she stated HATED the color I picked because it was too much work to apply. She told me I should pick another color, I refused. As she proceeded she said she would have to do three coats, I wanted 2. She insisted on the 3 coats because she didn’t like the way it looked. «Too streaky» were her words. I thought it looked fine. I’m not sure she realized I’m entitled to tell her how I want MY nails to look. Not once did I feel welcomed or relaxed simply because she had such an attitude about everything. Now at this point I’m thinking god this girl is nasty and if I come back I will have someone else work on me for certain. Now to the reason why I’m actually writing this review, my fourth and final visit, today. Truthfully, I don’t even know why I bothered because I was already disappointed with this place but the convenience is what got me today, lazy Sunday I guess. I went in for a pedicure and a silk wrap. As soon as I mentioned the silk wrap the girls began to call Candy. Im assuming she’s the silk wrap girl, not sure. And because of my assumption I decided not to request someone else. I should’ve probably left when she made me wait 15 minutes for a pedicure while she finished her lunch. Again once finished, pedicure was ok. Still being positive she gets started on my wrap. Firstly making me cut my natural nails shorter which according to her were too long. Sure cut them, no problem. Secondly, the chemicals she put on a couple of my nails burned my nails pretty badly, without a warning ! It stung so bad and when I let her know it was hurting she said sorry can’t help you. If that’s not bad, when trying to pull my finger away she refused to let go of my finger and proceeded with burning me. That is when I decided I’d write my review. But it only gets worse ! The time comes to pay my $ 118 which apparently was a discounted price after she quoted me all sorts of things in the beginning. Nevertheless I give her my debit card and tip her $ 10 because despite her lack of knowledge of customer service she did spend quite some time on my wrap. Now before I tell you what happens next I need you to understand. 1. I’m an adult and at the least deserve to be spoken to as one. 2. Her poor etiquette is not an excuse. Candy felt compelled to say «honey I need to tell you something» and asked me to follow her to a massage room. Here is where she proceeds to tell me that she thinks I’m a nice girl but that she wants me to know that I should be tipping her at least 20%. Now here’s just another assumption but I’m more than certain that she thought I was going to hand her that 20 dollar bill I had at this point. What I really wanted to hand her was a slap across the face for even thinking it was ok to be that disrespectful. Tips are a privilege ! They are based on MY satisfaction on a service offered. They must not pay her well enough. Don’t waste your time at this place please. Many times in my few visits have I witnessed the owners being rude to people. Take your money elsewhere and get better service.

I went in with a 6 month old dye job and I walked out looking fabulous and ten years younger than I actually am. Is it pricey? Sure. But you get what you pay for and I’m incredibly happy.

I had read some negative reviews so was a little nervous about coming in to this place. But I am so glad I did. I came in for a blow dry and saw May, who is the nicest, most wonderful hairdresser. My hair looks absolutely fabulous every week and I get more compliments on it than I ever have on my life. The owners are warm and welcoming and always remember me and are accommodating with last minute appointments. I could not be happier this place is two blocks away from where I live. They may be a little more expensive but you get what you pay for! Never rushed, never crowded, always taken care of.

Do not Patronize this place. Im not surprised they only have 2 stars. Worst attitudes, more so the manager. Im new to NY just relocated to LIC from DC. I really wanted to make this my frequent nail salon being as though it’s located right downstairs from my building but I refuse to be treated less than a human. I will be trying out the next closest nail salon Snob. Hopefully they have better customer service.

I really wanna give them zero stars if I can. I live right across the street from the store, and I’d never ever go there again, the service is beyond terrible. I chose two polish colors and wanna see which one looks better on my nails, and the lady refused to do that cuz“I’m very busy”, even there were literally just 2 customers in the salon, including me. Oh and they only accept tips in cash for some reason, so the lady literally said” go to the ATM and GET THE CASH FOR ME NOW!” Seriously guys if u wanna be treated as a human being don’t come to this shop!!! It’s really unfortunate they have a pretty nice shop and a nice location. SHAME!!!

I’m not sure why so many negative reviews, but I just came from getting a mani/​pedi and the experience was nothing less than lovely. The salon is impeccably clean, the staff friendly and professional, and I received a great manicure and pedicure. As long as you go in understanding the prices are higher than others in the area, there should be no complaints.

Tried it two times and really wanted to like it (I live right around the corner so it is super convenient and it’s a nice looking salon). While they do a good mani-​pedi-​massage job, the service leaves a lot to be desired. First time I came in for a pedi, I arrived 45 minutes before closing time and was told to have a seat. In the middle of my pedicure the woman (Candy) asked me if I had brought flip flops (this was back in February and it was freezing outside). I did not bring flip flops, so she suggested, since I won’t have enough time to dry, I go home in disposable flip flops. First off, 45 min is plenty of time to finish a pedi! I got them once or twice before, so I know. Secondly, I would have been totally fine being turned down if they thought there wasn’t enough time. I get it, people need to get home. But this is service industry and once you take a client you kinda have to finish the job you started. I also specifically asked when I walked in if I could still get a pedi and was told it was fine. I asked for quick-​dry and said I’ll take whatever time I have before closing (at that point it was about 15 min — plenty of time for polish to dry) and then put my sneakers on. I ended up being kicked out of there at 8.25 (they close at 8.30) and Candy was rushing me the whole time. I did not want to argue with her but I felt extremely uncomfortable. Not what you expect from a SPA.
Since the location is very convenient I though I’d give it another try. I came in for a manicure and 20 min massage. This time the service was great and friendly and I had a relaxing experience. Until I got my bill. I actually didn’t catch that till the next day, but it was at least $ 8 over their advertised prices (from the website). Again, not going to argue with them, since I should have checked while I was there. Besides, I did not save my receipt so that’s an oversight on my part. That being said, $ 53 before tax for a mani and 20 min massage seems a bit steep. Even for NYC. Especially since it is not what is being advertised on their website. Simply not cool. Needless to say, I will not be returning. Thanks but no thanks. :(

I have received decent service from the staff in this place, but the managers (a Korean middle-​aged couple) are the worst! Even though you may be a regular customer, they are not accommodating at all and they are usually very rude. Prices are also very high. I usually use the services of this salon because it is very close to my place, but I have decided to stop. Also, the last manicure I got was so terrible, I need to wait for my entire nails to grow back. The manicurist literally used an emery board to file the surface of my nails. She had no clue how to deal with manicures for men. Not a great place. Save yourself the trouble.

I came in for a powder fill in and French manicure, and whilst the manicurist was excellent and I’m really pleased with my nails, the female manager has completely put me off returning.
The website stated powder fill in was $ 35, so I was a bit surprised to be charged $ 45 (in addition to being charged $ 8 to replace a broken nail and $ 10 for the French manicure which is a little steep). When I challenged her on this, I was told the price had gone up but the website hadn’t been updated. I paid, but before I left I saw that the price list displayed in the salon also said $ 35. I eventually managed to get a refund after some deliberation, on the basis that you can’t just blatantly over charge! Prior to this conversation I was told by the manager that I should come earlier (I came in around 6.15 on a Sunday, they close at 7.30). I responded that I’ll come whenever it’s convenient for me as the customer.
It’s a real shame as the ladies that work in the salon are very good, but the manager’s attitude is reason enough for me to find somewhere else and I won’t be back.

My entire family uses their services (with exception of 3 year old daughter). They treat us like royalty — especially my 6 year old son), and the services provided are great if a little pricey (though you do get what you pay for).

These people are so rude and overcharge. No credit card tips allower. They go one step too far with the chemical cleaners, makes me nuasious and dizzy every time I step in.

The worst experience for hair cut!, iT is 5:50 in the morning And I just woke up stress for what they did to My hair. The stylist cut IT so bad that even my husband noticed it. I told the girl just a little bit and keep the same style, but oh my god now my hair is so short and looks like it was cut iT from an student. The worst of all is that the man at the front desk And another lady were there so rude when i went to speak to them and explain what just happened to my hair. And they said: just pay!!! Didnt even care about the bad results and service. Today i am going to another place that can fix this bad hair cut, and i am so afraid how shorter is going to be, because it is already to short :(because of them. Dont ever go there! Also before this happened I went do get my nails and at the next day my nail polish was scratched. Really bad quality

I’m unsure of why this place has such few stars. If you live in LIC the location is convenient and the hours are pretty good. Most importantly, it’s rally clean and I’ve been happy with my mani’s and pedi’s each time I come here.
Pro’s: Convenient location, always clean, good mani and pedi’s and good hours and walk-in’s available.
Con’s: None really… however, You could save a few dollars and go to another spot.
Overall though, love the convenience, cleanliness and I always receive quality service so I’m happy they’re here in my hood!

A friend of mine took me to emily salon in her neighborhood and i absolutely loved it.
So i went back several times already.
Very clean and engaging environment. They diligently cook every single tool between customers (i know it’s not always the case),
and they do consistently good job!
One should try one of those spa pedicures that has the best callus treatment ever.

I had several negative experiences at this salon in January-​February 2014, when getting my hair and nails done. So I «boycotted» the place for the past year, despite the fact that it is located right in my apartment building. This past weekend I had an event to attend, but a winter storm reared its ugly head and my travel options were limited. So, I decided to lift the embargo and give this place another shot. Quite possibly one of the WORST decisions I have made to date.
I called at 1 pm and asked if they had availability for a 2 pm blowout. The male owner assured me that they did. I then asked what the price was for a blowout. He said that he prices were different for short, medium and long hair. I told him that I had long, thick hair. He quickly and unwaveringly replied, «$ 50.» Though that’s $ 10 more that what I pay at Dry Bar in Manhattan (where I can get a cocktail, snacks and chick flicks galore included in the price), but I agreed. When I arrived, the male owner greeted me, remembered me from the phone, and sent me over to the salon side of Emily’s. From the moment I sat down in my chair, my stylist was unhappy. She kept huffing and puffing and halfway through my blowout employed another assistant to give me a «special treatment» because I have «[sigh] too much hair.» 1 hour an 15 minutes later, she had a somewhat frizzy, overly hair sprayed blowout to show for her time. I was short on time, so I did not complain about my hair. As she seemed very proud of working with what was entirely «too much hair» in her opinion, I even lied and told her it was nice.
When I went to the front counter, the same male owner that I had spoken to just two hours prior, tells me that the cost of the blowout is $ 77.50. I then told him that I had spoken to him on the phone not two hours ago and he had emphatically told me that the price for long hair is $ 50. He proceeded to argue with me and tell me that «he does not set the prices… it all depends.» Who, pray tell, set the prices besides the owner of the place? We argue, but in regular voices, about the price. He then goes to his wife and tells her what’s happening in Korean. The wife comes running over and starts SCREAMING at me in front of all of the customers and tells me that they wasted one hour of their time on me and that I am a «miserable» person. Excuse me, how did I waste your time? I just gave you $ 77.50 worth of business!!! She then has the audacity to ask me to tip the stylist. Tips are based on good service experiences, crazy lady. They are not handed out to people that engage in FRAUDULENT BUSINESS PRACTICES and embarrass the heck out of you by calling you names in front of your neighbors.
I will NEVER AGAIN go to this place and will make damn sure to spread the word to our community.
P. S. I am the type of vain person that gets my hair done at least once a week. Your loss, Emily.

I’ve visited Emily’s now on two occasions. I like this place. I’ve always left pretty happy with my manicures. very convenient spot for me that is close to home.
After reading all the previous reviews, I was a little nervous about trying it. I didn’t want to receive punches to the legs. But I can say, overall everything was pretty average and if you want a clean manicure /​pedicure– I can recommend this spot.
They don’t take appointments, however neither time did I have to wait long at all.
My first visit, I got a reg mani /​pedi. I LOVED my nails. I had brought in a design for New Years and the girl hit it perfectly. I really liked my nails.
I was a little sad that my pedi didn’t include any type of leg massage. usually that is pretty standard with Pedi’s. but I didn’t get one.
Both mani’s, they charged me $ 10 extra for a little design. in the end it is worth it, and a I can’t complain. It is pretty much city prices. so nothing new for me.
I will be going back from time to time.

I walked away with a fantastic manicure. The location was and is ideal for those that live on north side of Center Blvd. interior is bright, very clean and the staff is warm and welcoming. A nice experience and I look fwd to going back. $ 15 mani is not a bad deal either!
