Village Spa Nails & Hair

I made an appointment at the Village Spa to get an updo, as I was staying right next door at a hotel for a wedding on a Friday afternoon about a month ago. The reviews for the Spa were decent, although they were sparse, but it was walking distance from the hotel so I figured it would be fine. When I arrived at the salon I was introduced to Julie who was going to do the updo for me. I showed him several photos and I told him I wanted a chunky loose braid on one side and the rest of the hair curled and up in the back. He proceeded to start and I noticed right away that it was not going how I explained. I stopped him and told him I wanted a looser, softer look but he continued to do the braid so tight that it hurt my head. He kept assuring me that he would loosen it as he went on. He proceeded to do the same thing on the other side and I again stopped him, told him that’s not what I wanted and again showed him photos of the look I was going for. He continued to go on saying that he knows what I’m looking for. When he started to do the back of my hair in the updo, he was not even going to curl it, he just started placing it with a million pins. I again stopped him and he put about 3 curls in my stick straight thick hair and asked what I thought. Any hairstylist I have ever been to would have not let me get up out of that chair looking like I was upset, even if I said it was fine. At that point I wanted to get out of there. I knew I was going to have to shower, dry me hair and style it myself and now had only about an hour to do so until the wedding. While waiting to speak to the receptionist another stylist saw how unhappy I was and asked me if I was happy with the work. She could see it on my face and barely holding tears back I said no. The quality of the work that was done was amature at best and I’m sure she saw that. She told me I did not have to pay if I wasn’t happy and I glad she did because I was not about to pay for it anyway. While I was thanking her, another lady behind the desk told her not to tell me that and that I had to pay. I explained that I not only showed him photos several times but I also stopped him about 4 times during the updo and he proceeded to go on with whatever he was doing. She asked me to pay and then the owner would call me and we would work it out. I have never ever refused to pay for services anywhere before but they were not getting anything for the awful work and neglect to listen to the customer sitting in the chair. I refused and began to get upset so they took my name and number and shuffled me out the door so the other customers would not notice and told me the owner would call me to discuss. I had to take a million pins out of my hair, shower, dry and style my hair in about 45 minutes to make the wedding. Terrible. After not hearing from the owner over the weekend and that Monday, I called the salon. I wanted to speak to him and tell him what happened. I hate to bash someones career but Julie should not be doing updos. I could not even believe how it looked when I got back to the hotel room and really looked at it. My sister is law also was in shock at the work that they were going to charge me $ 65 for. I have never encountered anything like that before. When I called and said I hasn’t heard from him they said he would call me shortly. 1 month later and I still have not heard. Such a shame, now they really look like they also have bad management and lack of respect for their customers. All I needed was the phone call I was told I would receive to explain what happened (so it wouldn’t happen to anyone else) and they would have avoided this review. It is a customer service business afterall, isn’t it???

Very nice staff, attentive and gentle. Good prices. We called a few min ahead about getting two pedi’s and they took us both right away. Liked my pedi so much that I stayed for a mani. My lady had another appt scheduled so another person worked on my hands. Both did a wonderful job.

expensive. rude. did accomodate their mistake another visit but it was a pain to make time for another visit and there is never parking.

Very good manicures — lasts for well over a week without chips. However every time I walk in, they ask me to come back in an hour despite no one being in the place. They obviously staff based on appointments which is disappointing because i really dont want to schedule my weekend around a nail appointment. I’ve seen many people walk out and not return for the same reason. So minus one star for that, but the manicures are really very good.

Excellent massage by Luke. Friendly and accommodating staff. I would definitely come back here.
